The winter wind bit through my coat but didn’t lessen my cheerfulness as I carried my four jars of home- canned tomatoes into the community center. Excited to participate in feeding the less fortunate in our community on New Year’s Day, I joined my Sunday school’s classmates as we boxed the goods for delivery.
That year, we went to Bobby’s house. He was one grade ahead of me in school, but I never knew he was poor. When we took the box inside the small house, I saw bedrooms had been created by hanging sheets over ropes. Bobby came home while we were there. Embarrassed, he quickly hid behind the screen (隔板).
It made my heart ache. Even as a seven- year- old, I understood embarrassment. After we returned to the community center, my teacher pulled me aside. I thought she was going to discuss Bobby’s situation, but she didn’t.
My teacher told me that they had collected a lot of food that year and suggested that, since I had a large family, I should take an extra box home with me. She picked up the cardboard container, expecting me to accept the food.
I refused, saying that the food was for poor people. My teacher responded that all people needed help at times. I insisted that my family didn’t need help. I opened the door and went back home.
I began to wonder if we were poor. I looked at our family carefully, concluding that we were definitely poor.
My mom never tolerates foolish behavior and doesn’t allow complaining. Two days later, she demanded to know why I’d been depressed.
I told her that we were poor. When she demanded to know who had said that, I replied that nobody had said it, but I had figured it out. I couldn’t look at her in the eye, feeling that she had been hiding this important truth from us.

A high-pitched scream stopped Laura Douglas in her tracks. Spinning around on the narrow dirt path, she thought that her cousin Cassie was in danger. Instead, Cassie was knee-deep in flowers that covered the meadow (草地) like a quilt.
“Cassie! You scared me to death! ” Laura scolded, her voice echoing through the meadow. “I am sorry, ” Cassie, absorbed in her photography, didn’t notice the thick fog rolling in, consuming the nearby mountains. “ Not again! ” Laura complained, her eyes shifting to the approaching clouds. “We gotta go! ”
Cassie's focus remained on her camera, capturing the short-lived beauty of the moment. Laura tied a red scarf around her hair, “Let’s go back to the campsite. ” The girls quickly ran down the winding path, the meadow now covered by a thick fog and a steady, cold rain. The road turned slippery, and they had to move slowly to avoid sliding down.
“It's dangerous! We need shelter now! ” Cassie screamed after a loud crack of thunder, the storm's strength increasing rapidly. Laura's keen eyes found a small cave in the rock face, partly hidden by overhanging branches. It wasn't much, but it offered a chance to escape the rain.
“Cassie, over here! ” Laura called out, her voice barely carrying over the wind.
Cassie, wet and shaking, stumbled towards the place of Laura's voice. As she approached, she could see the shelter. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than nothing.
“Smart thinking, Laura, ” Cassie said, her teeth chattering (打颤) with cold as she pressed her backpa ck close to her chest. The backpack, a tough and waterproof (防水的) model, had been a gift from her father, an experienced hiker who had insisted on its numerous pockets and sections for emergency supplies. Little did they know, his advice would prove invaluable on this day.

3.(24-25高三上·辽宁·阶段练习)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In my childhood, influenced by my parents and friends. I was encouraged to try various creative activities. Of course, I didn’t enjoy all of them equally, whether it was my first attempt or after repeated efforts. However, life has a way of leading us to unexpected passions. You never know when a creative pursuit might change your life.
The name of this activity is “painting”. About ten years ago, I didn’t really see the appeal of sitting in front of a canvas (画布) for hours, trying to recreate scenes or images in my mind. The idea of mixing colors and repeatedly adjusting brushes felt tiresome to me. In fact, I used to think of painting as some sort of “coloring inside the lines” activity that young kids enjoyed, but it was much more difficult because there was no outline to guide you.
However, all that changed when I visited my grandparents during a winter break. My grandmother, an enthusiastic painter, gently persuaded me to join her in her art studio to try my hand at painting. She encouraged me to simply express myself through colors and brushes. Hesitant but curious, I agreed and sat down with her, ready to paint. Before handing me the brushes, she showed me how to mix the colors and create different shades, making the process seem more approachable.
Learning to paint, especially for a beginner like me, can be a difficult task. The act of holding a brush is simple, but creating something meaningful on the canvas is challenging. That’s why it’s called painting, not finishing. But with practice and patience, it becomes more enjoyable and less frightening over time. Patience is crucial in painting. It takes time to find the right combination of colors and to let the image in your mind slowly take form on the canvas.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
My grandmother had to repeatedly remind me to be patient.

I first met Michael in the hallway when I was teaching in a job training program and recruiting (招收) students who were potential dropouts ( 辍学者). As I gave him our usual introduction to the program, my first impression was, “I sure wouldn’t want to meet this guy again. ”After listening to my introduction, he answered, “I’ll think about it.”
The next morning he was in our office to tell me he would be in our program. So Michael was officially admitted in my class. But it became immediately obvious that Michael couldn’t be matched with a suitable partner. He distanced himself with his attitude. And he soon became bored with the skill and drill games, but he would focus on the typing lessons for longer periods. Often I would catch him off task, playing games on the computer or following me around the room. He also told me stories of how he had injuries and hospitalizations that resulted from his anger. In desperation I suggested that he should put his interesting stories on the computer, which he seemed to think was a good idea. My motives were not professional, without any instructions at all, but I had to get him off of my back so I could keep everyone else working.
While I was helping other students, Michael was happily occupied in his writing for more than a week and less of a bother to me. Finally, he printed out several pages, brought them to my desk and asked me to read them. Since the bell was going to ring, I told him that I would take them home and read them later.
Later that evening I pulled his pages out and unwillingly began to read, expecting more of violent episodes. Instead, I read a personal story written by a sensitive young man who wore a cold and lonely shield (盾牌). The story was simple, moving, and sincere. Although his writing style was raw, his message was powerful enough to bring tears to my eyes.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next morning, he asked me what I thought of his papers.

After graduating from UCLA as a film-making major, I was brimming with confidence, thinking to myself that I was bound to make a splash in this industry. Yet after being declined by countless enterprises, I ended up finding a temporary job as a birthday clown to make ends meet. I had to admit that the pay of playing the clown was pretty decent, but I struggled a lot with my new identity. Every sleepless night, I couldn’t help asking myself the same question, “Shouldn’t I be a filmmaker rather than a joker doing a ridiculous job ”
For certain parties, I had been assigned to play a specific character. Usually, the company would drop off a trash bag filled with a costume for me the night before the party. It was cruel, since these costumes smelled like the broken dreams of every failed actor that’d worm them before me.
One night, they handed me my trash bag and said, “Tomorrow you’re going to be Batman.” At the time I had a giant mustache, and a superhero with a mustache wasn’t what parents would anticipate. But I wasn’t in the mood to alter my physical appearance for that job, because that would have meant me admitting I was more of a clown than a filmmaker. So I didn’t shave.
The next day, I went to the party. I had to leave my car parked far enough away so that the kids wouldn’t see Batman driving a broken SUV. As a consequence, I had to walk to the party. Normally at these parties, all you have to do is pop in through the front door and say, “Surprise! Batman’s here!”
But a group of kids playing at the front door spotted me approaching, like, a quarter of a mile away, which made me start to regret my option. I was thinking, “Gosh, my stupid mustache is going to ruin this party.” Sure enough, once I got close enough for them to start identifying the features of my face, the entire party burst into laughter.

In the heart of a village nestled amidst lush greenery, where the night sky was regularly graced by the moon and stars, lived Luna, a girl born without the gift of sight. Her world, though rich in sounds and sensations, was often enveloped in loneliness. Children kept their distance due to her difference. Sometimes, their cruel jokes cut deeper than any knife, leaving her heart heavy with loneliness.
But Luna was not alone in her journey. Luna’s parents, with their unconditional love and support, were her rock. They never treated her as if she were different, always encouraging her to explore the world with her other senses. From an early age, they took her outside to explore nature, helping her feel the warmth of the sun on her face, the cool breeze through her hair, and the soft texture of flowers beneath her fingers.
One of Luna’s fondest memories was the way her parents talked about the moon. When the nights were dark and fear crept into her heart, they would point to the moon, a shining round ball in the sky, and tell her, “Where the moon shines, there is no darkness. It will guide you, just as we do.”
One quiet night, Lucy sat alone in her room. The breeze from the open window brought the sounds of rustling (发出沙沙声) trees and the soft hum (哼叫) of insects. Feeling the rhythm of the night, she began to hum. Her voice matched with the music of nature, and without realizing it, she was singing a melody, one that seemed to come from deep within her soul.
Luna’s parents, who were watching her from a little way away, were struck by the beauty of her melody. It was at that moment that her parents realized that despite her blindness, Luna possessed a talent that could touch the hearts of others.
注意:1. 续写词数为150词左右;

7.(2025·广东·一模)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
When I was just ten years old, I learned that trusting can be risky, especially with water and my father. On hot summer days, we would play in the pool. My father could stand tall, but I was only able to keep my head above the water. He wanted me to learn to swim and would say, “Put your head under, it’s not scary.” But I was always afraid of what was hiding in the deep water. One day, while I was looking at a bird, my father quickly put my head under the water. It was scary at first, but it was over in a flash, and I was back up, breathing again. It was a memory I never forgot.
When I turned eleven, we went to Miami for a family vacation. At the hotel, there was a big water slide that looked really fun with fancy twists and turns but also a bit scary because it was so high. My father said we could try it together, and if I didn’t like it, we could come back down. I was still remembering the time he surprised me in the pool, so I was a bit worried. But what I didn’t expect was my father’s light push on my back, and I slid down, splashing into the water. It was a big adventure!
I supposed I would never believe my father any more. However, two years later, my family went snorkeling (浮潜) in Bermuda, where we got necessary training and sailed into the midst of the Atlantic Ocean with a local coach on a small boat. When we were ready to start snorkeling, my father held onto me at first. I looked down and saw corals nearby, but he began to let me down into the water slowly. Gradually the water covered my ankles and I could feel the cold water. Soon, I couldn’t feel his hands and I was alone in the open ocean. All of a sudden, I completely forgot how to operate my snorkel, breathe, and swim.

You never know when you’ll be given the chance to save a life. During a weekend holiday, Molly, Jane, Jones chose to celebrate off campus. They took a different road, a scenic route that led them through a quiet, rural area. When hunger struck, they pulled over for lunch at a unique spot by the roadside. They never knew that this spur-of-the-moment (一时冲动的) decision would lead to a moment they’d never forget.
As they drove along, suddenly a heavy rain poured down. They had to pull up to wait for it to fade. Molly, who was sitting bored, noticed something odd - a sudden flash of white followed by a loud crash. Looking through the trees, they were shocked to see a car half-submerged (半没入水中的) in a nearby pond. A panic woman was yelling for help, with her child lying aside. Without a moment’s hesitation, they sprang into action, with Molly dialing 911 while Jane and Jones leaped out of their car.
However, fate seemed to test them further. Molly tripped over a rope lying on the ground as she stepped out of her car. She fell hard, but quickly got back on her feet. As they got closer, they saw the car sinking fast, disappearing into the river. They looked around desperately for something to help. With no time to lose, they jumped into action, fear pushing them forward.
They scanned their surroundings for anything that could aid their rescue mission. Molly felt a chill (害怕的感觉) as she heard the mom’s desperate cries for help. The child’s scream broke her heart, which was pounding with urgency. She knew they were their only hope now, and giving up wasn’t an option. With a flash of lightning breaking the sky, Molly couldn’t help looking at the rope lying on the ground.

I mentioned that the community center wanted to give us food, that we didn’t have a car, and that we had to ride a poor bike when we went to places. I also noted that a group had offered to buy us shoes for the school year and that most of the clothes in my closet were hand- me- downs from a girl in my class. I expressed my concern that people might be laughing at me for wearing her clothes.
After I finished, my mother sat down and told me we were not poor but very rich. She asked whether I had a healthy body and whether I could run and play without any problem. She then asked whether I had a good mind, and whether I was a good reader. I nodded. She emphasized that I lived in a country, where I was free and could go anywhere I wanted and pursue any dream I could imagine. She insisted that I was not poor but rich. She expected me to remember that every day of my life.

【答案】One possible version:
“Check your backpack, ” Laura instructed, her voice being hopeful. “ We might have something that can help us start a fire. ” Cassie nodded, her fingers trembling as she unzipped the side pocket of her backpack. She was relieved to find a flashlight, a compact emergency blanket and a small, waterproof pouch containing waterproof matches. “Bingo! ” she exclaimed, her voice filled with a mix of surprise and relief. They quickly set to work, using the waterproof matches to ignite a small fire with the dry leaves and twigs Laura had collected. The survival blanket was spread out, providing a thin layer of insulation against the cold, damp ground.
As night fell, the storm finally began to die down. The girls, exhausted but determined, decided to make a move. They knew the trail would be risky in the dark, but staying in the shelter wasn't an option either. Using the flashlight, they carefully navigated the slippery path, following the markers they had set earlier. The fog had lifted, and the moon provided just enough light to see by. Hours later, they finally reached the edge of the forest. The lights of the campsite were a welcome sight. Cassie grinned, her teeth no longer chattering, “We made it back. ” Laura nodded, her eyes meeting Cassie’s. Their adventure had been terrifying, but it had also been a test ament to their bond and their survival skills. And as they sat by the fire, sipping hot chocolate, they knew they would never forget the day they had faced the storm together.

【答案】My grandmother had to repeatedly remind me to be patient.I often grew frustrated when the colors didn’t mix as I had hoped, or when my brush movements felt awkward and unsteady. She encouraged me to take a deep breath and slow down to appreciate the process rather than rush toward the result, With her gentle guidance, I began to understand that patience was not just about waiting for a masterpiece to appear. but about embracing each step of the journey and learning from every movement. As I gradually let go of my impatience. I started to immerse myself more fully in the art, discovering a deeper sense of satisfaction in the act of creating.
Word came that a painting competition would be held in our school. My grandmother encouraged me to participate. but I was hesitant at first. unsure if my skills were good enough. Despite my doubts. I decided to challenge myself and enter the competition. I spent weeks preparing, carefully choosing my subject and practicing every day. As I worked. I remembered my grandmother’s lessons on patience, and I allowed myself the time to improve without rushing. To my surprise, not only did I enjoy the process, but my hard work paid off—I ended up winning a prize. This experience boosted my confidence and deepened my love for painting, strengthening the belief that patience truly is a virtue in all aspects of life.

【答案】The next morning, he asked me what I thought of his papers. I replied, “The story was simple, and the writing style was raw…”. Hearing this, he lowered his head with disappointment. “I haven’t finished my words. But the story was very moving, and sincere. And the message was powerful enough to bring tears to my eyes.” I continued. “Really ” The smile on his face shone like a diamond. “There is some room for you to improve your writing. As long as you work hard, you will make progress in writing.” I added. He promised me with determination that he would try his best to improve his writing. From that day on, he threw himself in writing.
As his writing progressed, there was an obvious change in him. Instead of distancing himself from others, he began to talk with others, and even made friends with some people. The toothy smile appeared on his face usually. Whenever seeing me, he would greet to me warmly. He told me that he likes what he is like now and it is I and writing that have changed him. He was grateful for what I have done for him.

【答案】Super awkward, I turned around and wanted to drive my Batmobile away. At the sight of my strange behavior, the laughter from these kids faded away all of a sudden. “Is Batman escaping ” asked a child, his voice filled with genuine concern. I found myself rooted to the ground, unable to inch forward. Some awful memories flashed back in front of my eyes, making me feel my blood freeze. My heart was beating painfully fast, and my mind went totally blank. Another child broke the ice by yelling from the top of his lungs, “Batman never escapes!” It was his inspiring words that brought me back to reality, and I eventually gathered up my courage to do what Batman would do.
I ran into the party, and they were all clapping their hands for me. Unaffected by my previous move, the birthday boy jumped for joy and threw himself into my arms. I failed to contain my feelings, excitement written all over my face. It struck me that I was the only one bothered by me and my mustache. Feeling on top of the world, I cracked a smile at these little angels and opened my mouth, “Batman’s here! Who wants to fight against bad guys with me ” “Me!” they replied in chorus, and a trace of joy can be noticed in their voices, for which my long-lost confidence found its way back. Cape blowing in the wind, tears welling up in my eyes, I got rid of insecurity and self-doubt lingering in my heart and resolved to stay positive in the face of adversity.

Paragraph 1: With tears of joy in their eyes, they approached Luna and told her of their discovery. “You have a gift, my dear,” her mother said, her voice filled with pride. “Just like the moon, you too can light up the world in your unique way.” Her father nodded in agreement. Luna’s face lit up with surprise and a glimmer of hope. She had never imagined that her simple humming could hold such power. With her parents’ constant encouragement, Luna began composing her own songs. She poured her heart into every note, letting her voice express the feelings she couldn’t put into words. Her connection with the world came through sound-the rustling leaves, the chirping birds and the way the wind whistled on quiet night.
Paragraph 2: As Luna’s music began to take shape, her parents decided it was time to share her gift with the world. They secretly organized a concert under the light of the full moon, inviting the entire village and beyond. On the night, the village square was transformed into a moonlit stage. When Luna began to sing, her pure and clear voice filled the air, stunning the the whole villagers.

【答案】Struggling in the water, I felt a wave of relief when my father swam towards me. He steadied me and instructed me to stay calm and breathe slowly through the snorkel. With his reassuring presence, I gradually regained control and started to explore the underwater world, fascinated by the vibrant marine life around me. However, as we swam back onto the boat, a strong current swirled me suddenly and I was kind of losing my consciousness. At the sight of my struggling, my father took my hand firmly, trying to lift me to the boat. When I came to myself, I was told that my father’s knee was cut bleeding by something sharp and I felt my throat tightened.
Years later, whenever I’m at home, I still see the scar on my father’s knee. It's a reminder of the time he dove off the boat to rescue me when I was caught in a strong current while snorkeling. His selfless act not only saved me that day but also reinforced the depth of his love and the importance of trusting those who truly care for us. The scar is a testament to the bond we share and a lesson in the power of trust and courage.

【答案】An idea occurred to Molly at the critical moment. Molly thought that they could use the rope to pull the mother and her child over. Thinking of this, Molly immediately picked up one end of the rope and tried to throw it to the mother, but in vain. She could not threw it farther. Seeing what Molly was doing, Jane and Jones realized what Molly wanted to do. They looked around and found a broken branch. A good idea flashed into Jane’s mind. “Tie the rope to the branch and let it float to the car”, she shouted. Without hesitation, they tied the rope to the branch and threw it into water. Slowly, the branch with the rope floated to the car. The mother picked the rope and tied it to her waist. The mother held her child in one arm and jumped into water, the other arm paddling. The three on the bank dragged them inch by inch.
Finally, with one last pull, they dragged the mother and child to safety. When they returned to safety the mother suddenly burst into tears. She hugged Molly, Jane and Jones tightly unable to say any word. They three tried their best to comfort her and the child. When the mother and the child calmed down, she showed her appreciation to Molly, Jane and Jones again and again. They found a towel in their car for the mother and the child to dry their hair. At the same time, the police arrived. They drove the mother and the child home in the police car.
