【片段01】《以爱为翼:流浪狗救助背后的蜕变与希望》
Our efforts began to produce positive results. The community took notice of our work, and more people joined in to lend a helping hand. Slowly but surely, the situation began to change. More homeless dogs were rescued, and eventually adopted into caring families. Our small acts of kindness created a good effect that reached far beyond that neighborhood. We may not have been able to save every homeless dog, but the ones we did rescue inspired hope and sympathy.
Looking back on the summer, I am filled with a sense of pride and contentment. Rescuing homeless dogs taught me the value of selflessness and perseverance. Now, I know there are many creatures in this world that need our love, and that we humans should learn to live in harmony with them. I appreciate these beautiful creatures because of their remarkable adaptability. It is an experience that changes my life forever and serves as a reminder that we all have the power to make a difference to the world.

The keeper nodded in agreement and asked Amy, “Would you be interested in volunteering to help out with the animals at the center ” “Interested ”“I would love to work here! 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My husband and I enjoy seeing life through the eyes of our children. It’s amazing to watch as they discover their world.
While we were outdoors last summer enjoying the sunshine, our oldest daughter, Kaytlin, called me to the doorway. Beneath the steps was a baby red squirrel.
We watched it from a distance, not wanting to disturb it or scare off its mother. But after a long wait—and looking all around our house for signs of a nest or a mother—we realized the tiny squirrel was lost.
Shaking terribly, he was weak, thin, and hungry. We tried to find an expert to help, but the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website showed that there were no wildlife experts in our area. After some quick research, we concluded that the best way to give the squirrel a fighting chance was to care for him ourselves. So a trip to the local store for milk and supplies was in order. More research taught us how much to feed him, how to estimate his age, how and when to wean (断奶) him, and that we should let him go as soon as he could survive on his own.
Our daughters and I took turns in feeding “Squirt.” Kaytlin took on the most responsibility. She taught him to eat from a bottle, and she woke in the night for his feeds.
To our relief, Squirt soon became healthy and strong. Within a few weeks he became more active. He would chatter (吱吱叫) for his next meal, playfully go around the girls, and lie down on them for sleep. It wasn’t long before he was weaned onto solid food and reintroduced to the wild.
His first few visits to the great outdoors were funny. Just like a child, he would play in the grass some and then run back to Kaytlin for safety. Soon she had him climbing trees and finding nest material.

Just as many families do at some point, Catherine and her husband chose to add a pet to their family, which also consisted of their17-month-old daughter Kate. Catherine wanted a dog with which Kate could have a close bond. So she called the dog shelter close by to inquire about adoption. After hearing about the animals available, she chose one. Once they signed the adoption papers, they named the dog Khan.
Catherine hoped having a dog would provide valuable lessons for her baby, such as sharing, learning to love and responsibility through caring for an animal. She was looking forward to having the dog join the family.
When the dog was brought to her family, Catherine was overjoyed. Of course, she realized there were risks involved. Well, the most obvious one was bringing a large, potentially dangerous animal home to her young baby, but Catherine pushed these risks aside.
Everything began smoothly. They trained Khan during the first few days. And Khan seemed to have already decided that Kate was his No.1 girl. The dog seldom left her side after arriving at his new home. However, everything changed on the fourth day when the dog acted completely out of character.
The day began with the usual playtime in the yard. Watching from a distance, Kate’s parents did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Kate and the new dog had made a habit of playing outside like this. However, things were different that day.
So what was actually happening out there The two were not being loud or crazy. Then they began running through the backyard grass together. Again, Catherine watched the two closely. Surprisingly, things changed in an instant!

“Nothing is so beautiful as spring—When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush.” However, there is no denying that early spring can be a tough time in the Midwest. It can take both people and animals by surprise with its unexpected snowstorms.
My house is built in a high position so that my backyard overlooks a large pond. Every spring, flocks of migratory birds (候鸟) chose to root in the pond on the way to their summer homes. They had a rest in the pond, looked for food to feed their baby birds and played with each other casually. This year, among others, hundreds of scaups, a type of diving duck, spent several days hanging out there, diving for food. Life was peaceful and warm for them. They spent hours swimming with each other. The older ones would run after the younger after they finished their breakfast. Every time the little ducks would spare no effort to escape and the open water around them would get bigger and bigger.
Then the snowstorm hit followed by a very cold night. The temperature dropped sharply. As the open water of the pond shrank into icy desolation (荒凉) the scaups took off for a more livable habitat (栖息地).
The next morning, I found that all birds had disappeared overnight except one lo ne female, who was diving energetically in her little circle of open water. Her movements and body heat had kept the ice from coming close. She bravely swam around as I watched her from the comfort of my warm home.
As time passed, the open water around the duck got smaller and smaller, and her movements slowed. Obviously, she was in danger. I watched with anxiety as she eventually stopped moving, and I feared she was dead. I decided to go out to have a look.

Upon her arrival at the South Pole Penguin Research Lab, Mary observed her friend Tom tenderly caressing a penguin cradled in his arms. As the offspring of the lab’s scientific staff, Mary and Tom were frequently in the presence of emperor penguins, which were under scrutiny to discern how they coped with the harsh climatic conditions — a knowledge that could be instrumental in enhancing human endurance in extreme environments.
“We’re thirteen, Tom. It’s the age to mature and cease interacting with the lab’s penguins as if they were playmates,” Mary remarked, commencing her cleaning duties. “These creatures are subjects of research, not domestic animals.”
“But these avians are responsive to my touch!” Tom defended, his exhalation manifesting as a mist in the icy atmosphere. “You’re merely attempting to become a penguin whisperer once more,” Mary retorted, a soft grin playing on her lips as she shook her head. The penguins exhibited a playful demeanor as they strolled, plunged, swam, and frolicked in pursuit of their live piscine quarry before partaking in their meal.
A sudden blare of an alarm, accompanied by the flashing of red lights, interrupted the scene, indicating an issue at hand. The siblings hastened to investigate. “The temperature has plummeted further — there’s ice crystallizing on the water’s surface,” Tom observed. Despite the perpetual cold, Mary had never witnessed ice forming in that location before. Upon inspecting the habitat monitor, she realized that the temperature had dipped significantly. “The heating system must have malfunctioned!”
Promptly, Mary dispatched a message to their parents' research team, who were immersed in field studies outside. With the adults indisposed, the children were left to manage the plummeting temperatures until reinforcements arrived.
As they waited apprehensively, time seemed to dawdle, and the escalating cold induced shivers. “I ponder what emperor penguins accomplish amidst such frigid conditions, considering they remain at the Pole throughout the winter rather than migrating to warmer climates,” Mary mused. “They huddle,” Tom replied. “They cluster so closely that those in the core remain sufficiently warm.” “What occurs with the ones on the periphery ” Mary inquired. “They press inward toward the center, then subsequently migrate back to the periphery, and once again grapple against the flow of their peers to regain the warmth of the huddle’s heart. This behavior was documented by scientists in the early 21st century,” he stated, his gaze fixed on the sizable assembly of penguins within the lab.

My Uncle Joe had a farmland in the countryside. Every summer, I would spend a few weeks there, playjing around and doing some help. his farmland is often visited by crows (乌鸦). I discovered that they were so intelligent. They would drop nuts onto roads to be broken open by passing cars and even could use their sharp beaks (鸟喙) to open cups of bottles.
That day was the hottest day of the year. Even the birds would rest in the shades of our yard to cool themselves. Uncle Joe was wiping sweat off his face when he came into the house. “Ken, did you let the air out of two tyres on my old truck ” he asked me. And I denied.
“I guess I must have run over some nails,” Uncle Joe said. I helped him pump (打气)some air into the tyres so we could drive to the garage. The garage man couldn’t find any nails, It seemed it was due to the opening of the tyre valves (阀门).
“Maybe, Ken, here, was playing a trick,” he told Uncle Joe.
“I wouldn’t do that!” I said with red face, “Flattyres aren’t funny.”
“But there are only three others who live nearby, and they’re on vacation,” Uncle Joe said. “It’s a mystery.”
The next morning was even hotter. Uncle Joe stormed into the house, shouting at me, “Now three tyres are flat! Who else could be pulling such a trick ”
We pumped up the tyres again. When Uncle Joe went back inside, I decided to solve this mystery myself. I hid behind a bush, keeping an eye on the truck. Maybe some kid who is visiting one of our neighbors is doing it, I thought.
The sun got hotter and hotter. I got sleepier and sleepier. Suddenly I heard a ssst, ssst hissing sound. My eyes flew open, and I stared at the strangest sight I’d ever seen.

A Pleasant Surprise
It was one week before Christmas and my house was filled with festive cheer. The only thing I hoped to get from my Christmas wish list was a puppy (小狗). I had always dreamed of having a puppy, as I was the only child, and it could be quite lonely at times. However, I did not want to get my hopes up, as I knew neither of my parents liked the thought of having a puppy around the house and all that came with it.
Every time I begged for a puppy, my parents would say, “It is a lot of responsibilities, and you will have to clean up after it, give it baths, feed it regularly and walk it.”
I knew the responsibilities and was ready to take them on. Unfortunately, even with my enthusiasm (热情) and determination, my parents still disagreed to get me a puppy. There were very few chances of getting it, but I still tried asking them again that week.
“Oh honey, pick something else instead. There are so many toys that you can pick,” my parents responded as usual. As expected, I thought, giving a resigned sigh (无奈的叹息). For the rest of the evening, I decorated the Christmas tree as my parents hung some stockings. That night, I went to sleep with the hope that my dream would ever come true.
My alarm clock woke me up. “Oh my goodness, it is finally Christmas day!” I shouted excitedly and rushed down the stairs to the living room.
“Good morning, Bella!” both my parents chatted with huge smiles on their faces that were brighter than usual. My curiosity was inspired and many questions rushed into my mind. They played Christmas carols, and they sang along to the merry tunes. Just then, I caught my father smiling at my mother as if they had a secret plan and walking out of the door. When I asked my mother where my father had gone, she simply said that he had gone to pick something up. I grew confused.

The Making of a Believer
It was Christmas Eve morning, and I awoke with a mission: to find my lost cat, Baby-Girl, who is chubby and cute, fond of sitting in her one-and-only spot near the nearth (壁炉). AS I got ready, I could hear icy rain pouring down. I said a quick prayer for Baby-Girl. She was out there somewhere in the storm, I could just feel it. Sure, it had been six months since she’d gone missing, but I still had faith. It was the season for miracles, after all.
That summer, my sweet cat had disappeared from my parents’ house in Indiana. Baby-Girl had been staying with them. At the time, I lived and worked in Washington, D.C.Baby-Girl had gotten out of my parents’ house three days before I was set to fly back home to pick her up.
My dad and I spent that entire visit searching for her. Dad was the family’s resident “realistic”, which mean the spent a whole lot of time trying to prepare me for the worst. She’s either been hit by a car or been taken in by someone who found her” he said. I rolled my eyes. Dad always supported me, but he was so skepticat. He could do with a little more faith!
Besides, though I couldn’t explain it, I knew I’d see her Baby-Girl again. If any cat could do the impossible, it was my Baby-Girl. Even after T returned to D.C. without her and the weeks stretched into months, deep down I had this feeling that we’d be reunited.
How, home again for the holidays, I was de tem mined to pick up my search. I grabbed Baby-Girl’s cat carrier and loaded it into the car, then persuaded Dad to drive me to the shelter, hoping she’d been found.
“Sharon, you have to be realistic,” my dad said as we headed to the garage. “She’s been gone too long. You’re not going to find her.”
“Well, I just have a feeling,” I said
Dad raised an eyebrow a she climbed into the driver’s seat to take me to the shelter.

It was hard to say goodbye to a pet, especially for children. Nancy Lowe. 5, from Walton-on Thames, England, experienced the loss of her beloved cat, Tintin, earlier this year. She died from heart failure and Nancy had been struggling to adjust to life without her best friend. Concerned and anxious, Nancy’s mom, Tamara, said, “Nancy and Tintin were best friends, and they had a really close bond, Whenever they saw each other, the two of them were so happy.”
Nancy desperately missed Tintin and she was worried the cat would be lonely, so she decided to write a letter to her cat up in heaven. She was warned by her mother, who told her that heaven might be too far away and that Tintin might have found a new friend, but Nancy insisted on writing the letter. When she was asked what she had written, she showed the letter to her mother generously. It read, “Dear Tintin, I miss you. Have you found a new friend in heaven ” Tamara was touched by her daughter’s sincere love and kindness. She didn’t want to disappoint her daughter so they posted the letter together.
Before they put the letter in a post box, once again Tamara tried to let her know she probably wouldn’t receive a reply, but Nancy addressed the envelope to “heaven” and mail edit off anyway.
Tamara said, “When we sent the letter I didn’t expect anything to comeback and I don’t think Nancy did, either. But it was important for her to say a proper goodbye. Getting a response was the last thing we expected.” Tamara and Nancy didn’t know a postman named Clive Edwards was on duty that day and he saw the letter addressed to heaven and wanted to help Nancy find some comfort in her loss.

[调研09](2024·河南·模拟预测)爱犬出走引发危机,父女齐心终迎团圆
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Our family has two dogs, Cady and Casey. We took in both the mixed breed dogs after they were abandoned in the country. We live in an area between city and country. This area is rich with farmland, woods and various animals. Both of our dogs constantly want to run and will do so at any given opportunity. I have to keep them chained, even though my yard is fenced, so that I do not have to pay any fines for recovering them from the city pound (流浪狗收留所).
This morning I made the silly mistake of waiting until the last possible minute to put the dogs out. As I was walking the first one out, the second ran past me in a surprisingly fast move and she was gone. I called for her to return, but she chose to ignore my commands and headed off for a day of joy. Having a disobedient dog really upset me. I said goodbye to the dog and went about my business. Anyway, when I picked my daughter up from school, I just happened to mention that Cady might be missing. “I’ll tell you this! If she has been caught by the K9 cops (警察), I will not be paying her fines this time,” I said.
I noticed that my daughter had her head turned away from me and was silent for over 5 minutes. I asked, “Are you mad at me ” “Yes, I am,” she replied, now looking at me calmly. “Why does this upset you so much ” I wondered out loud. “Cady obviously does not care for her living arrangements here, or she would not runoff every time she has a chance, would she ” I cleverly remarked.
I have never noticed my daughter spending much time with this dog, so I could not imagine that the thought of losing her would be so painful. In my mind I have given Cady a nice home. If she is silly enough to leave all that behind to chase some neighbor’s cows, then “goodbye” is my attitude.

[调研10](2024·浙江宁波·二模)狗狗独特 “方言” 立功!助迷路小主人成功回家
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There once was a stray dog (流浪狗) named Rufus who was the most amazing dog on Kumquat Street. He could hear a ladybug blowing its nose. He could see a pill bug eating a black licorice candy at midnight. Rufus could even smell a caterpillar that hadn’t washed its feet.
You would think that Rufus, being so amazing, was also happy. But he wasn’t. You see, there was one thing that kept Rufus from being adopted by his favorite human. And that was ...Rufus barked backward. Here’s what he sounded like: “Wob-wow! Wob-wow! Fra-fra-fra! Krab-krab!”
Rufus could stand being laughed at by every squirrel and cat in the neighborhood. What he couldn't stand was that his bark kept him from living with Janie Johnson.
Janie never laughed at Rufus when he barked. More than anything else, Rufus wanted to be her pet. He wanted to play catch in her yard every day and sleep at the foot of her bed each night.
But Janie’s father, Mr. Johnson, wouldn’t hear of it. “What A dog that barks backward Wed be the laughingstocks of Kumquat Street! we Johnsons didn't get where we are today by adopting dogs that bark backward. No, Janie. It’s out of the question.”
“I’m sorry,” Janie told Rufus one morning as they sat on her front porch. “I keep telling Daddy how great you are. He just won’t listen.”
“Krab-krab!” said Rufus.
“Yes, sometimes he is bad-tempered,” said Janie “I’ll keep trying, though. Don’t worry.”
But Rufus did worry. That evening he talked it over with his friend Bill Bulldog. “I don’t think Mr Johnson will ever like me,” Rufus said. “As long as I bark backward, he’ll never let me live in his home.”
“Have you tried treatment ” asked Bill.
Rufus said, “I’ve tried everything. Nothing helps. It’s just the way I bark.”
“You’re a great dog Roof. Anyone can see that,” said Bill. “It just takes some humans longer to figure it out, that’s all. Hey, want to go with me to Succotash Street I’ve heard that their garbage is fantastic.”
Rufus yawned. “No, thanks,” he said. “I’ll take a nap.”
When Rufus woke up, it was late afternoon. As he was lying there, his sharp ears heard Mr. Johnson saying, “It’s almost suppertime. ls Janie still roller-skating We Johnsons didn’t get where we are today by being late for supper.”

We moved to a small seaside community in New Zealand 10 years ago, because my husband Phil worked as a biologist and he had to do research near the sea. I had seen seals (海豚) around Pilot Bay, which is near here. Sometimes you see them out on the rocks, sunning themselves or playing-but usually in their own territory. They never thought about disturbing their neighbors.
It was a dark winter morning in August this year when a seal came. At 5:50 a.m., I left the house to go fitness training. I went down to the car parked in the driveway and heard a growl (咆哮). I thought our cat, Coco, must have chased a dog under the car. I jumped into the car to avoid getting my ankles bitten, and moved slowly, but then I felt the car hit something. When I got out to have a look, I couldn’t see anything and thought it must have moved on. Then when I got back into my seat, I saw a baby seal in the headlights.
I thought, Oh, my God, “but didn’t panic—the ocean is just down the driveway and I thought it would find its way back. Off I went to the training center and gave everyone there a laugh when I said, “Sorry I’m late; there was a seal under the car.” I didn’t think about it again until I got home. As I walked through the garage (车库), I noticed our baskets had been moved. I wondered if it was the seal, but then I guessed it could not be the seal because I didn’t think it could fit through the cat door, which was the only way into the garage. But I was wrong. As I opened the door to the house, I brushed something and heard this flip-flip-flip-flip sound, and thought, “My God, that is the seal.”

For most people, adopting (收养) a pet is one of the best decisions that they can ever make in their lives. In addition to giving an animal a home and a loving family, the owner will find the company of a pet brings more happiness than expected.
For someone like Maria, having a pet was very suitable. She was all alone after moving to a new apartment in Brazil, which made her feel lonely.
So when she found a cute black puppy named Chips, she knew she had to take him home. Maria thought that Chips would be able to fill the emptiness that she had been experiencing from living all alone.
Maria was right. Once she took the puppy home, they immediately bonded. However, as Maria had to work during the day, she was worried about leaving Chips home alone in her apartment. She was also worried that his crying would upset her neighbors.
One night, when she returned home, outside her door was a package with a folded note attached to it. Maria knew that she was in trouble. She hoped that she would not be evicted (驱逐) from her new apartment because of Chips. She loved Chips so much, and she was afraid that she might have to get rid of him because he made too much noise whenever she was away. Maria was frightened and wondered who could have left it at the door because she had little contact with the people in the building except her neighbor, Angelia. In fact, they only said hello few times.
However, when she noticed the names on the folded note, she found that it wasn’t addressed to her but to her dog, Chips, and that it was “written” by another dog named Corote. Maria opened the package first and found a few toys for pets.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Curious, Maria opened the note and started reading it.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【满分范文】
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. Squirt cautiously approached them, his tiny body initially trembling but soon filled with growing curiosity. After observing their movements, he hesitated only a moment before attempting to mimic their nimble climbs and swift jumps. Bit by bit, he joined in their play, darting through leaves and weaving around branches as though discovering a whole new world. Watching him embrace his surroundings so naturally, we felt a familiar sense of joy, much like seeing life through the eyes of our children as they explore the unknown. Each day, Squirt ventured a little farther from the safety of our house, and we could see his budding confidence, the sure sign of his readiness for independence.
One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard. Concerned, we grabbed our raincoats and braved the storm, calling his name into the dark, our voices barely carrying over the sound of the downpour. As lightning flashed across the sky, we scoured the wet branches and shadows until, at last, we spotted him nestled safely in a tree hollow, huddled close with his new squirrel family, warm and content. Relief and bittersweet pride washed over us as we realized he had found his own place in the world. Walking back home, we felt the quiet fulfillment of letting go, knowing he was free, thriving under the sheltering trees in the life he had chosen for himself.

Khan began acting wildly all of a sudden. He started barking ferociously and running in circles around Kate. His hair stood on end and his eyes were wide with a sense of urgency. Catherine and her husband were shocked and immediately ran towards them. Khan then pushed Kate gently but firmly behind him, still barking and showing his teeth. Just then, they saw a scorpion crawling near Kate’s feet. Khan had sensed the danger and was trying to protect her.
Obviously, it was Khan who saved her baby but he barked weakly and then fell down with dying eyes. Catherine and her husband were horrified. They quickly picked up Khan and rushed him to the vet. On the way, they were filled with gratitude and worry. At the vet’s, Khan was given immediate treatment. Thankfully, after a tense few hours, Khan started to recover. From that day on, Khan became an even more cherished member of the family. His heroic act had shown them the true meaning of loyalty and love, and they would always be grateful for his presence and protection.

Then it happened. Two more ducks suddenly appeared, determined and energetic, landing next to her still body. And then more ducks came, and the circle of water came alive with their swimming and diving. Within minutes, the lone female, too, was swimming and diving happily, returning to consciousness by her friends’ presence. A wave of great joy swallowed the lively ducks and they enjoyed themselves excitedly.
This little duck’s friends probably saved her life. She wouldn’t have lasted another night in the frozen pond. And she, in turn, had done them a favor by keeping that small area of water open, so they had a place to stop and refresh themselves. It made me consider how we could have a deep effect on the people around us. A look, an action, a few words even our mere presence—might brighten someone’s day. It might change one’s path, or even save one’s life.

“I have an idea to stay warm!” Tom shouted excitedly. “We can mimic the emperor penguins’ behavior. Let’s huddle together for warmth, just like they do in the harsh conditions of the Pole.” So, they began to implement Tom’s idea. They found a spot in the lab that was relatively sheltered from the wind and started to huddle close to each other, sharing body heat. Time seemed to slow down as they waited for help to arrive, but their shared warmth made the wait more bearable.
Two and a half hours later, the parents returned with help. Upon seeing their children huddling together, they were relieved to find them safe and warm. The quick thinking of Tom and Mary had not only kept them comfortable but also given them a firsthand lesson in the survival tactics of the emperor penguins.

I noticed a crow standing beside Uncle Joe’s back tyre. Swiftly hopping around the valve, it was occupied in some work. Full of curiosity, I covered myself behind the branches, trying not to make a sound. What did it try to do Then, my question was answered as it pressed against the tyre with its sharp yellow beak. Sssst! The valve was loosened and my jaw nearly dropped. The key was the air, which was immediately released and rushed to the clever creature. Its rolling eyes and flapping wings seemed to indicate its pleasure.
Seeing the crow cooling from tyre’s air, I rushed to find Uncle Joe. Without hesitation, I told him what I discovered. Following me, Uncle Joe came to the spot, where only some black feathers were left. The “criminal” seemed to have escaped. Uncle Joe smiled and patted me on the shoulder, apologizing for his previous misunderstanding. I waved my hands, saying it was OK and truly excited about solving the mystery. Later, we decided to place an electric fan outside the yard, not only to protect the truck but also to bring coolness to the intelligent visitor.

I wondered what they could be hiding from me. As the morning unfolded, my anticipation grew, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something extraordinary was about to happen. Moments later, the front door creaked open, and in walked my father, his arms cradling a small, wriggling bundle of fur. My eyes widened in disbelief as he presented the adorable puppy to me, and my heart swelled with joy. Overwhelmed by emotion, I gathered the little creature into my arms and felt an instant connection.
I fell in love with the puppy at first sight and named her Daisy. Her playful energy and endearing nature quickly won over my parents, and soon, our home was filled with laughter and warmth. With Daisy by my side, I found a constant source of companionship and love. My once lonely days were a thing of the past, and I reveled in the newfound happiness that she brought into our lives. Christmas had indeed granted my dearest wish, and the arrival of Daisy made it a holiday season to remember.

We were led to the room where the abandoned cat lived. I tiptoed into the room with a strong feeling of anticipation. Out of nowhere, I heard a familiar meow, which absorbed my prompt attention suddenly. My eyes zeroed in on a little cat caged in the corner. She was skinnier than I remember, but it was my Baby-Girl all right! Overwhelmed with extreme excitement and delight, I opened the cage door. Baby-Girl practically jumped into my arms. I held her close, with my eye swelling up tears, as my Dad looked on, his jaw dropping wide with shock.
Soon after, my shocked Dad drove us back home. The instant we dropped Baby-Girl off, freeing her from the carrier, she immediately dashed to the hearth, seeking her favourite spot. On seeing this scene, we all roared with laughter, signaling that my Dad’s doubts were removed as well. Against all odds, my cat was home again, right before Christmas. It was such a miracle that my heart was filled with gratitude, feeling blessed with Baby-Girl’s long-awaited companion. As for my dear father who always support me, it turned out that Baby-Girl’s return made him a man of a believer.

She is not even pretty like Casey. No one would pick her and that means they will kill her.” My heart softened on hearing my daughter’s words. So we decided to look for Cady, but in vain.
After along and stressful night, we finally got a call from the city pound. Cady had been found wandering in a nearby neighborhood. We rushed to the city pound and were reunited with her. As we walked out of the pound with Cady, my daughter hugged me tightly and thanked me for not giving up her friend. That day, as we sat on the porch with Cady curled up at our feet, I realized the true value of pets in our lives. I am glad that we found Cady and that my daughter was able to keep her friend. I resolved to repair my fence in an effort to prevent any future escapes.

Rufus ran down Kumquat Street to look for Janie. He listened for the clickety-click of Janie’s skates. He sniffed for her special bubble-gum-and-peaches scent. He looked for her sky-blue helmet. But he didn’t hear, smell, or see her anywhere. Rufus started baking as loud as he could. “Wob-wow! Wob-wow! Fra-fra-fra! Krab-krab!” A squirrel giggled in a tree, “I’ve never heard anything so silly in my life!” “You don’t even sound like a dog!”, yowled a cat. Rusfus ignored them all and kept on barking. Soon all you heard in the neighborhood was his bark. Suddenly, Janie skated up to Rufus. “Oh, Rufus, I knew I heard you!” cried Janie.
At the sight of Janie and Rufus, Mr. Johnson ran up. “Janie,” he said. “Where on earth have you been ” Janie explained, “I took wrong turn and got lost, Daddy! Then all of a sudden, I heard ‘Wob-wow, fra-fra-fra.’ It was Rufus! I knew if I followed the sound of his bark, I’d find my way back home.” Mr. Johnson knelt in front of Rufus and held out his hand. “Rufus, I owe you an apology,” he said. “We Johnsons didn’t get where we are today by not admitting when we’re wrong. I’d like to shake your paw and invite you to come live with us.” Rufus happily gave Mr. Johnson his paw and licked his cheek. “We Johnsons didn’t get where we are today by letting dogs lick us on the cheek.” said Mr. Johnson. “Hmph! Well, I guess that wasn’t so bad!”
