A few months ago,I was working on an article about oceans across the solar system.Having read my fill about oceans of water,I turned to Google for information about oceans made of other stuff, like liquid hydrocarbons.I hoped to find reliable(可靠的)results, perhaps from NASA.Instead,Google's AI feature suggested Enceladus,a moon of Saturn, known for its saltwater ocean. This made me mad because it was not the information I was looking for.
This is a small example of how AI can fail.Arvind Narayanan and Sayash Kapoor highlight many more concerning examples in their new book AISnake Oil.They write about AI tools that say they can predict( 预 测 ) things like academic success, disease risk,or even wars.Along the way,the authors also explore many other issues with AI,covering misinformation, privacy, and copyright. They address whether we should be afraid of AI,concluding,“We should be far more concerned about what people will do with AI than with what AI will do on its own."
The authors point out that the technology is advancing quickly. Some of the details may be out of date—or at least old news—by the time the book makes it into your hands. For example, predictive AI,which aims to foresee future events, often fails because human behavior is too complex to predict. The authors believe that many AI systems are"snake oil",meaning they do not work as promised.
When it comes to why these problems exist and how to change them,Narayanan and Kapoor bring a clear point of view:Society has given too much freedom to the tech industry.“We are not okay with leaving the future of AI up to the people currently in charge,"they write.
This book is a wake-up call for anyone who uses AI or makes decisions about it,encouraging us to think critically(批判地)and use AI responsibly.

Seattle's waterfront has a new look, with art celebrating the city's history and native culture.A key piece is a series of wooden posts inspired by traditional native longhouses, stretching from Columbia to Spring streets and towers over plant beds and a new bike path. The artwork is a part of Seattle's larger waterfront revitalization(翻新) project inspired by the history, ecology and communities of the land on which they stand.
Three of the new artworks were created by native artists, highlighting the importance of native people in Seattle's history and future. For many years, the waterfront has been crowded with heavy traffic. Now these new changes create a space that invites personal interaction—and allows people to recognize native culture, land and peoples in Seattle's past and future.
Oscar Tuazon is the lead artist behind the artwork on the waterfront.Though not native himself,Tuazon worked with other native artists.Theyincluded house posts carved( 雕 刻 )bylocal artists, such as Randi Purser. One of the two house posts will complete a family in sculpture( 雕 像 ) . Purser's post shows Sholeetsa,Chief Seattle's mother, holding Chief Seattle as a baby.Across the water,on Bainbridge Island, another of Purser's posts represents Schweabe,Chief Seattle's father."It represents a young family who faced a time of change,” Purser said."I want to convey that feeling within Seattle of an Indian woman facing the future."
Tuazon used native trees for the artwork, stressing the connection between traditional native and industrial Seattle architecture. He believed wood represents a process of renewal, much like culture, which develops over time
Other native artworks on the waterfront include a large basket designed by Malynn Foster."It's a gathering basket. We create a space for people to gather and celebrate,"Foster said.“As people walk through that space, they will stop and see something familiar from the past.”

The ocean is the largest natural sink of carbon dioxide(CO ),taking in about a quarter of our annual emissions(排放). That uptake of CO makes the ocean's surface more acidic(酸的),which harms ecosystems like coral reefs. But until now, researchers did not know the extent to which acidification was reaching deeper waters.
Jens Daniel Müller at the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in Switzerland and his coworkers developed a 3D model to study how CO moves through the ocean. They used this model to show how CO the oceans have taken in since 1800,around the start of the industrial revolution, has affected deep-water acidity.
They found a clear acidification signal down to 1,000 metres in most of the ocean. Some areas, such as the North Atlantic—where the powerful ocean carries carbon from the surface to deeper waters—saw acidification down to 1,500 metres. Some pockets of deeper water that are naturally more acidic saw even more acidification than the surface, which limits their ability to take in more CO .
“This is more or less what researchers expected would happen as the ocean takes up more CO ,”says Müller."But it's a different thing to really see the data coming in to confirm this."
Notably, about half of all the acidification since 1800 occurred after 1994,as our emissions of CO have risen sharply."We see this rather rapid progression,"says Müller.
The level of acidification is so high that it threatens sea life in many parts of the ocean. For example, sea butterflies are at particular risk because their shells dissolve(溶解)in acidic water. The rise in acidification has also doubled the areas where cold-water corals will have trouble surviving.
“And ocean acidification is set to continue as the water takes in more CO .Even if we were able to stop CO emissions immediately,we would still see a process of ocean acidification for a couple of centuries or so,” says Müller.
32.Why did Müller's team develop the 3D model
A.To save ecosystems in Switzerland. B.To study CO movement in the ocean.
C.To measure the health of ocean life. D.To track changes in water temperatures.
33.What has been a result of rising CO emissions since 1994 according to the text
A.A rapid increase in ocean acidification. B.A significant rise in the level of the ocean.
C.A worse environment for wildlife on land. D.A stronger ability of oceans to take in CO .
34.What is Müller's attitude to the future of ocean acidification
A.Unclear. B.Uncaring. C.Doubtful. D.Concerned.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A.The History of Ocean Acidification Since 1800
B.Advances in Deep-Sea Exploration Technology
C.CO Emissions Are Worsening Climate Change
D.Ocean Acidification Is Reaching Deeper Waters

It all started on a quiet Sunday afternoon when Alex,a quiet writer, was walking through the park.He had been trying to finish his latest book for weeks, but nothing seemed to come to him.The idea of a peaceful walk felt like a good way to take a break from the struggle with his writing.
As he walked along the park's path, deep in thought,a small dog appeared at his feet. The dog was just a few months old, looking up at him with big,sad eyes. Its fur( 皮 毛 )was dirty, and it seemed hungry.Without thinking,Alex bent down and gave the dog a small piece of his sandwich, which the dog quickly ate.
The dog, wagging( 摇 摆 )its tail, jumped up into Alex's arms and licked( 舔 )his face as if to say thank you. For a moment,Alex didn't know what to do.He had never been a dog person. He was used to the peace and quiet of his apartment, with no one around except for the characters in his stories. But as the dog was in his arms,Alex felt something warm in his heart.
“Well,I guess I can't just leave you here,”Alex said quietly, looking around. No one seemed to be looking for the dog.Alex felt curious,“Could I really take this dog home Would I be able to take care of it ”
After thinking for a moment,Alex made a decision. He couldn't leave the dog alone. He gently placed the dog in his arms and returned home, not knowing that his life was about to change in ways he couldn't yet imagine.
At home,Alex stood in his small kitchen, looking at the dog."Okay,"Alex said to himself, walking back and forth,“What do dogs eat Do I need to buy food And...where's its bed ”He looked around, but the room was quiet, and no answers came.

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
