Imagine this: you and your friend are on a video call. He or she picks up a book, and you feel like you’re holding the book as well. You can shake hands or give your friend a high five, even though you’re apart (分开).
A pair of special gloves might make this come true. Researchers at the University of New South Wales, Australia, have made gloves that can recreate the sense of touch. They call this haptic device (触觉装置) a “soft skin stretch device” (SSD).
The SSD works like this: One user’s gloves create 3D force signals when they touch something. The signals are sent to the other user’s gloves, which vibrate (震动) to create the same force that the first user is experiencing. This allows the second user to experience the same sense of touch.
The SSD allows you to feel force, vibration and motion(移动). “It is like wearing a second skin,” said Thanh Nho Do, one of the researchers who created the gloves.
Haptic technology is already being widely used. For example, the trackpads (触控板) in laptops (平板) use vibration to make it feel like you’re clicking (点击) a real mouse. However, it is difficult to recreate the sense of touch in virtual (虚拟的) environments or remotely (远程地), according to Mai Thanh Thai, lead researcher of the SSD project. The SSD is special because it has a high level of sensitivity (灵敏度) even when it is used continuously (连续地). This makes it feel more realistic (真实的).
The SSD could be used in medical practice. Two doctors in separate places could work together during an operation (手术)—one touches the patient’s organs (器官) with the SSD while the other doctor feels the same sensation (感觉) and completes the actual (实际的) operation.
47. What does “SSD” in the story refer to
A.A video chat app. B.A special pair of gloves.
C.A computer hard drive. D.Winter clothing.
48. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.What the SSD allows users to feel. B.How the SSD creates signals.
C.What the SSD is used for. D.How the SSD works.
49. Why does the SSD feel so realistic
A.Because it creates vibrations. B.Because it strengthens(加强) the senses.
C.Because it senses continuous actions. D.Because it is highly sensitive.
50. What do we know from the story
A.The SSD aims to improve video calls.
B.Haptic devices are hard to use.
C.The SSD makes remote (远程的) operations possible.
D.Haptic technology is mostly used in gaming.

“The delivery driver (送货员) has your food and is on his way.” This is a message you might receive after placing a take-out order. But in the near future, a self-driving car may bring food to your door instead of a human driver.
Baidu and Meituan are now working together to use self-driving technology to deliver food. They will be experimenting with this in the Xiong’an New Area, Beijing Evening News reported. The self-driving cars will mainly be used to send group orders. They won’t deal with the single orders that are usually sent by delivery drivers.
Sina Tech noted that using self-driving cars would be considered as a revolution (革命) in the food delivery industry, for it will eliminate (消除) the cost of labor (劳动力). Online food delivery services have developed rapidly in China. Almost 300 million users have used online services to order food, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
In the first half of 2019, Meituan Waimai ranked highest among all food delivery companies in terms of total orders, with Chinese food delivery company Eleme ranking second. Self-driving delivery services will promote (促进) the development of the industry. But that doesn’t mean that delivery drivers will lose their jobs. There are still some problems to be worked out. There are other safety-related problems that must also be solved before self-driving cars can be used.
51. Self-driving delivery would be considered as a revolution because ________.
A.it will use cars instead of motorbikes or e-bikes
B.it can better deal with large orders
C.it will cost less than hiring delivery drivers
D.it can attract more customers
52. Which of the following is TRUE about self-driving delivery services
A.They will mainly be used to handle single orders.
B.They will be tested in the Xiong’an New Area.
C.They will cost customers less money.
D.They are safer than human delivery drivers.
53. What is the text mainly about
A.No one will deliver your take-out food in the future.
B.Self-drving cars will be used to deliver food.
C.Food delivery services are developing rapidly in China.
D.There are still problems with self-driving cars.

When an Italian man went to work with a mask (口罩) to protect himself from the COVID-19, he was criticized (批评) by his workmates for causing panic (恐慌). But in China and other Asian countries, almost everyone wears a mask during outbreaks (爆发). Why do the East and the West have different ideas about wearing masks
In the West, people wear masks only when they get sick. People see masks as a tool to protect sick people and stop disease (疾病) from spreading, so healthy people don’t need to wear them. If a person goes out with a mask, other people may look at him like a virus (病毒) spreader. Even their friends tried to stay away from them. Some Western people say wearing a mask in public makes them feel “worried”, “shy”, and “afraid of being looked at differently”. But as the number of COVID-19 cases (病例) keeps growing around the world, more and more healthy people are starting to wear masks to protect themselves, people in the West are changing their ideas.
In Asian countries like China and Japan, wearing masks is common. In 1910, Chinese doctor Wu Liande invented the modern medical mask. During the 2003 SARS, people used masks widely in China and East Asia. Many Chinese also wear masks to keep warm in winter or protect against air pollution.
In Japan, some young women may wear masks when they don’t have their makeup (化妆) on. Many pop stars in Asia also wear masks to protect their privacy (隐私) when they go out. This cultural background has made it easier for people in the East to wear masks during the COVID-19 outbreak.
54. How did the Italian man’s workmates feel about him
A.He caused panic. B.He was too worried to work.
C.He didn’t want to go to work. D.He wanted to protect himself.
55. Why do Western people refuse to wear masks
A.Because they are afraid to look ugly with face masks.
B.Because they don’t want others to know they are ill.
C.Because they hope to comfort other people in this way.
D.Because they don’t think healthy people need masks.
56. Where was the modern medical mask invented
A.In England. B.In China. C.In Japan. D.In the USA.
57. Which of the following is Not TRUE according to the passage
A.Asian people wear masks to protect their privacy.
B.Asian people wear masks to protect against air pollution.
C.Asian people wear masks to stop disease from spreading.
D.Asian people wear masks to make them look fashionable (时尚的).
58. What does the passage mainly talk about
A.Western people’s trouble of wearing masks.
B.The reasons why masks are popular in Asian culture.
C.Different ideas of using masks in Eastern and Western countries.
D.The importance of wearing masks during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Every year on March 22, World Water Day focuses people’s attention on the importance of water across the world. In 2018, the theme is “Nature for Water”.
This year’s theme, “Nature for Water”, focuses on how nature-based solutions (NBS) can be used to help fix the water problems facing many people and ecosystems (生态系统) at the present time. Nature-based solutions are ways of managing plants, soils and wetlands, including rivers and lakes, to help with the management of water availability and quality. They will not solve the problem of drought (干旱) but should provide effective ways for improving water quality and increasing water supplies.
Anything that includes positively altering nature is an NBS.
●Bringing back forests, grasslands and natural wetlands
By bringing back natural ecosystems, we can help to rebalance water levels around the world, benefitting both humans and ecosystems;
●Connecting rivers to floodplains again
If properly managed, natural floodplains can provide help to wildlife, fish and people by giving them both space and clean water;
●Building sand dams
In very dry areas, such as Zimbabwe, sand dams are used to increase the amount of water that can be stored, meaning that farmers can grow more crops and people can have enough drinking water;
●Landscape restoration
Excessive logging (过度砍伐) in Alwar, India, has caused extremely serious droughts. The government has focused on the regeneration of forests and soils, which has not only helped the rivers to refill but also wildlife, such as antelopes and leopards, to return to the area.
59. What can we learn about the nature-based solutions
A.They will successfully solve the problem of drought.
B.They make plants, soils and wetlands totally different.
C.They can improve water quality and increase water supplies.
D.They can help us learn why people in history faced water problems.
60. The underlined word “altering” is closest in meaning to “________”.
A.changing B.creating C.increasing D.breaking
61. Why is it important to bring back natural ecosystems
A.Because they give space to both wildlife and fish.
B.Because they help increase water levels around the world.
C.Because they can supply clean water to both animals and humans.
D.Because they help bring water levels around the Earth back into balance.
62. This article is most likely a(n) ________.

例文:
Dear David,
Glad to receive your e-mail. Our school has made safety rules for us to follow. Let me tell you something about them.
We are asked to be careful with electricity when we use it. It is dangerous to play with fire, for it may cause terrible accidents. We should make sure doors and windows are shut before we leave. Besides, we are not allowed to swim alone, especially in deep rivers or lakes. If we really want to, we must go to the swimming pool with our parents or teachers. What's more, following traffic rules is also very important. Everyone should watch out when crossing the road. And our school warns us not to play on the road.
I think these rules are necessary as safety comes first. Have a good summer holiday!
Yours,
