过去进行时
一、过去进行时的含义、构成及句式
含义：过去进行时由“动词was/were+v.-ing”构成，表示在过去某一时刻或某一时间段正在进行的动作。这一特定的过去时间除有上下文暗示以外，一般用时间状语来表示，如: this time yesterday，all day yesterday, all night, at that time, at 9:30 yesterday 以及when/while 从句等。
例如:
He was reading a book at home all day yesterday.
昨天一整天他都在家里看书。
They were having a party at 19: 00 yesterday evening.
昨天晚上7点他们在聚会。
He was reading a storybook when the teacher came in.
老师进来的时候，他正在看故事书。
基本构成及句式
肯定句：
主语+was/were +doing+其他
例如：The boy was reading when I saw him.
我看到那个男孩时，他正在看书。
否定句:
主语+wasn 't/weren't + doing+其他
例如：His father wasn't watching TV this time yesterday.
昨天的这个时候他爸爸没在家里看电视。
一般疑问句：
Was/were__+主语+doing____+其他
例如：Was the girl shopping when I saw her
例如：我看到那个女孩的时候她正在购物吗？
肯定回答：Yes, she was.是的，她正在购物。
其构成为：Yes,主语+was / were
否定回答：No, she wasn‘t.不，她没购物。
其构成为：No,主语+wasn't/ weren't
特殊疑问句：
特殊疑问词+was/were+主语+动词-ing形式+其他
例如：What was the girl doing when I saw her
我昨天看到那个女孩时，她正在干什么？
可根据实际情况回答，She was+doing….
二、过去进行时的用法
表示过去某一时刻正在发生的动作。常用时间状语有at this time yesterday, at that time at ,3 o’clock yesterday afternoon等。
例如：He was swimming at this time yesterday.
昨天这个时候他正在泳泳。
表示过去某一段时间内正在进行的动作。常用时间状语:this morning, the whole morning/night,
all day yesterday, all night 等。
例如：I was watching TV the whole night.
整个晚上我都在看电视。
表示过去某个动作发生。
与when 引导的时间状语从句连用，另一个动作正在进行。
例如：I was reading when the teacher came in.
老师进来时我正在读书。
与while 引导的时间状语从句连用，表示过去某两个延续性动作同时进行。
例如：While he was reading, the telephone rang.
他正在看书时电话铃响了。
I was playing games while my mother was cooking.
我打游戏的时候妈妈在做饭。
与go, come, leave, start等瞬间动词连用时，过去进行时表示过去即将发生的动作。
例如：She was leaving for Shanghai then.
那时候她就要动身去上海了。
He said the early bus was coming.
他说早班车就要来了。
与always, often、forever等频度副词连用时，表示对过去某件事的埋怨、满意、称赞、惊讶、讨厌、赞扬或喜爱，并不强调动作正在进行，这一点与现在进行时相似。
例如：The baby was always crying.
那个婴儿总是哭。(表示抱怨)
Why were you always getting up late last week 你上周怎么老是起床很晚 (表示埋怨)
注意：
部分动词是不用于进行时的
(1)感官动词:hear， see, feel, taste...
(2)表示爱憎的动词:like， love, hate...
(3)表希望、意愿的动词:want, wish...
(4)表占有的动词:own， have...
(5)其他动词:appear, be...
when, while 和as引导的时间状语从句都可以使用延续性动词，when,as也可以与短暂性动词连用，而while则不能。
例如：I was doing my homework when my mother got home last night.
昨晚当我妈妈回家时，我正在做作业。(got home是短暂性动作)
They called me when I was having dinner.
当我正在吃晚饭时，他们给我打电话了。(was
having dinner是延续性动作)
While he was riding his bike， a car hit him suddenly. 当他正在骑自行车时，突然一辆小汽车撞了他。(was riding是延续性动作)
As I was walking one day in Hyde Park，I noticed two elderly ladies.
有一天，当我在海德公园散步的时候，我看到了两位老年妇女。(was walking是延续性动作)
when可表示瞬间，也可表示时间段，表示从句与主句所陈述的动作、事情可以同时发生，也可有先后。若主句为过去进行时，从句为一般过去时，则表示一个动作正在进行的时候，另一个动作(突然)发生了，强调后一动作的突然性。
例如： I was doing my homework when my mother came back home last night.
昨晚当我妈妈回家时，我正在做作业。
while用于同时进行的两个延续性动作相伴随而发生，常对同类的两个动作进行比较。
例如：My mother was cooking while my father was watchingTV.
我妈妈正在做饭，(与此同时)我爸爸正在看电视。
