Born into a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners (从业者),26-year-old Ismail Daurov from Kazakhstan has wanted to follow in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and become a professional of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) since he was a child.
So when a TCM clinic (诊所) that was jointly built by local and Chinese health workers officially opened about a year ago in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, Daurov jumped at the opportunity to work there.
“Many Kazakh patients had already looked for other means--even traveling to other countries--to find treatment for their diseases before visiting us, and they were amazed at the immediate results of TCM therapies (疗法) such as acupuncture, cupping and massage,” Daurov said.
Li Honggang, a hospital manager from the Xi’an TCM Hospital, working alongside with Daurov, said that because of the country’s cold, windy climate and a traditional diet heavy in beef and lamb, a large number of patients suffer from diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, lower back and leg pain. TCM treatments can play a perfect role in treating these diseases.
“Despite the language barrier (障碍), local patients give us a thumbs-up to express their thanks,” Li said. “Moreover, sometimes we ask them how they learned about the clinic, and many of them say through word of mouth. ”
“I am deeply moved by the interest of Kazakh people in TCM,” said Daurov. As for the future, Daurov hopes more TCM experts from China will come to share their knowledge and experience with Kazakh people, helping build more TCM clinics and expand their services in Kazakshstan. “I want to be a bridge between TCM and Kazakhstan,” he says. “I want to help my people understand and appreciate this ancient wisdom so that they can lead healthier and happier lives. ”
24. Why did Daurov decide to be a TCM doctor
A. He was inspired by his family. B. He got advantages from it as a patient.
C. He wanted to save money for patients. D. He was trained in it at university.
25. What causes the locals’ diseases according to Li Honggang
A. Heavy work. B. Poor life.
C. Eating habits. D. Lack of knowledge.
26. Which word can best describe the TCM clinic in Astana
A. High- priced. B. Tough. C. Low-quality. D. Popular.
27. What is Daurov’s expectation of TCM in Kazakhstan
A. It will become affordable. B. It can be used on animals.
C. It can benefit more people. D. It can replace the local culture.

A scientist goes to a forest to study monkeys. He or she wants to study their habits and behavior. But the problem is: how to know who’s who
In the past, scientists had to make marks on each of the animals to distinguish them. But in the future, they may have a much easier way to tell them apart thanks to facial recognition technology.
A research team from China’s Northwest University is using facial recognition technology to identify thousands of snub-nosed monkeys (金丝猴) that live on Qinling Mountain in Shaanxi province.
Similar to human facial recognition, the technology that is used to identify monkeys uses their facial features to create a database that includes every monkey, Xinhua reported.
“When the system is fully developed, we can connect it with cameras set up in the mountains. The system will automatically recognize the monkeys, name them and analyze their behavior,” said Zhang He, a member of the research team.
“For each snub-nosed monkey, we have 700 to 800 image samples, and the recognition success rate is 94 percent,” Zhang added.
Compared with facial recognition technology for humans, facial recognition technology for monkeys is more complicated because monkeys have hairier faces. The color of their hair causes them to blend into their environment. These factors make it harder for computers to do the job.
“Monkeys do not cooperate with researchers in the same way humans do. It is difficult to take high-quality pictures and videos of them, which are needed to improve the system,” said Li Baoguo, leader of the research team.
Currently, there are about 4,000 snub-nosed monkeys living on Qinling Mountain. The team’s goal is to successfully identify every monkey that lives there.
28. What problem do scientists face while studying monkeys

30. What does “These factors” in Paragraph 7 refer to ________.
a. image samples b. hairy faces c. hair color d. the environment

Like many of the arts, music flourished during the Zhou dynasty. From this period we have instruments, models of performers, descriptions of musicians and dancers, and the Shijing, or The Book of Poetry, which contains poems and songs of court and common people during the Zhou dynasty. It is likely that music played an extremely important role in the Zhou dynasty for all social classes.
One of the most important sources of information the researchers have regarding Zhou-dynasty music is from the tomb of the Marquis Yi of Zeng (曾侯乙) (433 B. C. E. ). This tomb was uncovered in 1977 in Hubei Province and contained the most extensive and well-preserved set of musical instruments ever found in an ancient Chinese tomb. This four-chamber (室) tomb was designed in imitation of a palace with a central courtyard, reflecting the belief that the Marquis Yi would require the same comforts in the afterlife that he had enjoyed during his lifetime. The central chamber of the tomb, which mirrored a palace courtyard, contained most of the musical instruments found, including a complete set of sixty-five graduated bells fixed on wooden shelves. In addition, twenty-one young women were buried with the Marquis Yi, some of whom were likely his favorite musicians and dancers.
The Marquis Yi’s set of sixty-five bells is extremely valuable for a variety of reasons. First, they are clearly dated--an inscription (碑文) indicates that the bells were a gift given to him in 433 B. C. E. . Second, the bells were very expensive to produce and to purchase, particularly a set of this size, so they are further evidence of the Marquis Yi’s status. Finally, the bells, along with the other instruments in the room, illustrate what an instrumental band might have consisted of during this period. Scholars predict that it would have required twenty-four musicians to play all instruments at once.
There are still many gaps in our knowledge of ancient Chinese music, partly because there was no system for recording music in a written form.
32. The Book of Poetry is mentioned in paragraph 1 to _______.
A. show the significance of the book.
B. describe the meaning of the book.
C. represent the life of people in the Zhou dynasty.
D. show the popularity of music in the Zhou dynasty.
33. According to the passage, what can we know about the tomb
A. It contains a complete set of musical instruments.
B. It is designed by the Marquis Yi of Zeng.
C. It is of the same size as that of the palace.
D. It reflects the wish of the Marquis Yi for his life after death.
34. Why is the set of sixty-five bells so valuable
A. Because it once was an expensive gift.
B. Because it was difficult to buy at that time.
C. Because it might prove the Marquis Yi’s position.
D. Because it needs twenty-four performers to play at the same time.
35. What can be the best title for the text
A. A look into the Zhou-dynasty Music. B. An Invaluable Tomb.
C. Ancient Musical Instruments. D. The Importance of Ancient Music.

第二节(满分25分)

As a young child, I used to have no confidence in myself. Even when I was in the sixthgrade, I still couldn’t ride a bike smoothly, a skill that many of my friends had mastered at a younger age. It made me feel like a slow learner, and the more I compared myself to others, the more I felt hopeless.
However, my elder brother Bob, who was always my source of inspiration and support, noticed my problem. He believed that I could get over this challenge, and he offered to help me learn how to ride a bike. At first, I was doubtful, thinking that I couldn’t master it. But Bob’s trust in me finally convinced (说服) me.
One day, we decided to go to a small slope (斜坡) near my home. Bob believed that it could make it easier for me to learn to ride. As we walked towards the slope, he kept encouraging me, “It’s not as hard as you think. You just need to get on and give it a try. ”
Once we reached the slope, Bob first explained the basic rules of riding a bike and the importance of keeping balance. Then he helped me onto the bike and gave me a gentle push. All at once, I felt the wind rushing past me as I started rolling down the slope. My heart was a mixture of excitement and fear. I couldn’t focus on keeping my balance or keeping the bike in the right direction so my first try ended in hitting into the bushes (灌木丛) beside the slope unluckily. It was too much pain. As I stood up from the ground, the thought of giving up came flooding my heart.

第二节(满分25分)
Just at that moment, Bob rushed over. “Are you OK ” He asked worriedly, helping me clean my clothes. I nodded, trying not to cry out. “Everyone falls when they’re learning to ride a bike. Just try again and you’ll make it. ” He kept encouraging me. Then he picked up the bike, helping me push the bike onto the top of the slope. He prepared me for the second try, and said, “Just be more careful and focused. I’m sure you can do it. ”
With such encouragement, I pulled myself together and biked again. As I kept trying, I found that only by letting go of my nervousness could I keep my body balanced. The more relaxed I was, the farther I rode and the more confident I became. Finally I completely mastered the skill of riding a bike. As I turned the bike around and rode back up to Bob, I could see the pride in his eyes. Thanks to my great brother, I was able to ride a bike! It was he who helped me gain confidence in myself.
