Dear Linda,
I was deeply concerned when I learned that you cannot participate in the dancing competition to be held in your school due to your leg injury, and I’m writing to give you some sincere comfort and suggestions.
As far as I'm concerned, what you need to do urgently is have a good rest, which will be of great benefit to your recovery. What’s more, there is no need for you to be anxious about not taking part in this competition, because more opportunities to participate in such competitions will be waiting for you after your full recovery.
I am hoping for your quick return.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Now, everyone, I'd like to tell you something about my favorite places. Many people have favorite places where they like to go when they are feeling sad or bored. I also have favorite places.
Here are the three places that I like best. First of all. I like zoos. The animals are amazing, because some are so cute and some are so ugly! I like to pet them, feed them and watch them perform. Secondly, museums are cool places. There are good exhibits and fascinating displays. I like works of art there. Some museums teach me a lot about history and science, from dinosaurs to robots, and I love them all. Finally, theme parks are a blast. I love to go cycling. I think the roller coasters are the best. It's fun to scream and get scared.
These places always cheer me up. I try to go to each of my favorite places once a year.牡丹江2024—2025学年度第二学期高一学年月考试题

You never know when the perfect business idea is going to hit you. For Caroline and Isabel Bercaw, it was when they were 10 and 11 years old.
A few years ago, their parents picked up $25 worth of ingredients (原料) to make homemade bath bombs as a science experiment. Addicted to the relaxing smells and vivid colors of the bath bombs, Caroline and Isabel decided to make enough to sell at a local store near their home. They borrowed around $350 from their mom, Kimberly, making sure to keep all income to pay her back.
After three months of trial and error, they made about 150 bath bombs. They sold their entire stock the first day. That night they stayed up late to make as many more bath bombs as they could for the next day. But it wasn’t enough. They sold out of everything again. In those two days alone, Caroline and Isabel earned enough to pay their mom back and reinvested back into the business.
Today Kimberly and their dad, Benjamin, have quit their day jobs to run a company that they say sells 500,000 bath bombs a month. The company employs more than 100 people and generates multimillion-dollar revenues annually. The family declined to provide detailed figures however.
Caroline and Isabel, now 15 and 16, are co-chief creative officers: They create and test new bath bomb recipes (配方), update the company’s social media, and act as the public faces of the company. Isabel and Caroline are still in high school. Even in-between classes, homework and track practice, they manage to answer emails and respond to social media comments.
“This was always about educating them more than they would learn at school,” says Kimberly. “It’s always great for them to be guided by the things they love.” The sisters say they’re busy but happy, and even have plans to expand the business further.

Spring Festival is a special occasion for children because they receive red envelopes (hongbao) from elders on the occasion. While in the past, children used to receive hongbao from elders in person, nowadays they mostly receive them online thanks to mobile payment apps such as Alipay and WeChat, which prompted the central bank to create a new legal tender (法定货币) for online transactions.
That’s how the digital renminbi came into being. For users engaged in commercial operations, using digital renminbi saves the cost of handling fees. For individuals, it saves them from paying any charges for withdrawing funds. As a pure public service product, the digital renminbi provides circulation (流通) services for society and thus has great public welfare value. And a tool that can meet the needs of the public in many fields, it is likely to be widely used in the future.
Yet the promotion and application of the digital renminbi face some challenges, especially because it is yet to be recognized nationwide. Payments made through the digital renminbi are not channeled through bank accounts. Instead, they are deposited (存储) directly into “digital accounts”, and the process can be completed through an electronic device, which may cause users to worry about the security of their deposits, particularly because if a user loses his or her cell phone, he/she could lose a lot of money.
With the Chinese Lunar New Year around the corner, the issuing of hongbao will gather pace and boost the development of the digital renminbi and offer the public a more convenient payment instrument. Mobile payment technology has had a great impact on our lives, and the digital renminbi is likely to change the way society does business. This digital revolution is the result of putting the “digital civilization” theory into practice and will make life more convenient for the people,
Why does the author mention “hongbao” in paragraph 1
A. To show the tradition of Spring Festival.
B. To promote online hongbao.
C. To introduce the topic of digital renminbi.
D. To explain a social phenomenon.
What can we know about the digital renminbi from the text
A. It has been recognized nationwide as a useful tool.
B. It charges higher handling fees than the traditional payment.
C. It could be common in the future for its various applications.
D. It is not safe because users will lose their money.
30. What is the author’s attitude to the future of digital renminbi
A. Favorable. B. Indifferent.
C. Critical. D. Unclear.
31. Where is this text probably taken from
A. An advertisement. B. A business magazine.
C. A science textbook. D. A book review.
D
Being healthy is not only about your body. What is equally important is mental health, which can be achieved through “flow”. Flow is considered an optimal (最佳的) experience that can increase happiness in life. A flow state involves total concentration on an activity one enjoys, resulting in a loss of self-consciousness.
Flow can be brought about by any experience, whether work or play, and leads to an optimal experience. Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi explained, “It is the full involvement of flow, rather than happiness, that makes for excellence in life.”
Flow is also valuable for learning and developing skills. Flow activities are experienced as challenging but achievable. If the challenge is too high, it can lead to frustration and anxiety; if the challenge is too low, it can lead to boredom. Over time, the activity may become too easy if it never changes. Thus, the value of increasing challenges is stressed so they are just slightly outside one’s skill set. This enables the individual to maintain the flow state while also enabling them to learn new skills.
Given the numerous benefits of flow to both improve performance and increase happiness, many people are interested in discovering which activities lead one to experience flow. This can be different for different people. The key is to find an activity that the individual is passionate (有热情的) about.
Today it can be especially hard to ensure one’s environment is optimized for flow. No matter how passionate or optimally challenging an activity is, it won’t lead to a flow state if disruptions keep popping up (突然出现). As a result, it is essential that smartphones and other distractions get turned off if you want to achieve flow.
What are paragraph 2 and paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Characteristics of flow. B. The definition of flow.
C. Challenges of achieving flow. D. Benefits of flow.
33. Which task works the best to maintain the flow
A. A rather simple task. B. A task with high rewards.
C. A slightly challenging task. D. A task related to playing games.
34. What is suggested for all people to experience flow
A. Discovering a common interest. B. Avoiding possible distractions.
C. Concentrating on smartphones. D. Improving personal performance.
35. What is a suitable title for the text
A. Flow Leads to Success. B. Flow State in Psychology.
C. Challenge Yourself Bravely. D. How to Overcome Distractions.
