During the summer, Hu Miaokun, a 19-year-old diagnosed with congenital (先天的) deafness, received offers
from seven universities, making years of determined efforts.
Born in 2005 in a village in Hubei province, Hu lost his father at five and later lived with his grandparents
after his mother remarried. Supported by his family, he was admitted to a school for hearing-impaired children.
“Adapting to life in a group was tough,” Hu signed. “When I first started school, everything felt frightening. I
couldn’t hear anything, completely lost. I had to get used to the new environment, follow new rules, and learn how
to interact with others. But over time, these challenges became easier to manage.”
Hu recalls how his teachers used tailored techniques and tools to aid learning. These included multimedia
lessons, hearing aids, speech recognition devices, and other assistive technologies.
After middle school, Hu attended a specialized high school in Wuhan. For students with hearing and speech
impairments, learning English proved particularly difficult. While many of his schoolmates had some basic
knowledge of the language and were exposed to English through songs, movies, and everyday conversations, Hu
had no prior exposure (接触), making the task even more challenging.
“My key is reading, writing, and translation,” Hu signed. He created a detailed study plan and excelled. This
year, Hu Miaokun took the national college entrance examination, or gaokao. His hard work paid off.Since May,
Hu Miaokun has received offers from all seven universities to which he applied. Ultimately, Hu Miaokun decided
to pursue product design at his dream school, TianjinUniversity of Technology.
Withambitions of becoming a 3D designer specializing in product modeling, he is now focusing on mastering
various modeling software, such as 3ds Max and Adobe Illustrator. “I’m deeply thankful to my aunt and everyone
who has supported me,” Hu Miaokun signed. “I will continue to work hard in my studies and, in the future, use my
skills to inspire and assist others.”

Shen Wei,the character designer behind China’s highest-earning animated(动画的)film Ne Zha, recently
spoke about his challenging journey in designing characters for Ne Zha 2, following the great success of the
original film in 2019.
Ne Zha 2 joined the very lively Spring Festival film season list and was first shown on Jan. 29. Building on
the remarkable success of its predecessor, this five-year project continues to draw inspiration from the playful but
adorable character from the Ming dynasty novel The Investiture of the Gods. It also introduces a “dimensional
upgrade” that includes new characters, thrilling battle scenes, more than 1,900 visual effectshots, and enhanced
details for IMAX.
When discussing the challenges of character design amid high audience expectations after a five-year wait,
Shen emphasized the importance of two concepts: continuity and innovation. “I believe finding both keeping the
old and adding new things are significant,” Shen said. “The audience has already accepted elements of the original,
so it’s impossible to completely change the established framework. Our approach is to keep the main ideas of the
first film into the sequel(续集)while innovating and improving on existing techniques.”
Ne Zha 2 includes a substantial increase in new characters, tripling the number from the first film. A
promotional video reveals that nearly every character has received unique battle designs instead of reusing previous
designs. Shen noted that this approach demanded considerable effortand time. His goal was to immerse the
audience in a story that feels authentic and engaging, ensuring that each character is fully developed and relatable.
One new character that impressed Shen is Ao Shun, a legendary dragon king. His complex armor, made
entirely of blades, along with his unique fighting style, presented significant development challenges. Shen worked
closely with YangYu,the director of the Ne Zha film series, known by his nickname Jiaozi, to explore various
versions of the character’s costume and performance style.
Looking ahead, Shen expressed a strong interest in exploring projects that involve alien and future-like
第 6页/共 13页
creatures during the revival of Chinese animation. “Suchthemes,” he said, “allow me to explore new ideas and
awaken my imagination.” He noted that character design is a creatively rich and rewarding process.
28. What does the term “dimensionalupgrade” in paragraph 2 most likely refer to
A. A shift from 2D to 3D animation.
B. Expansions in story, visual effects, and technology.
C. Reducing the film’s runtime for better pacing.
D. Focusing only on character backstories.
29. Why does Shen believe it is impossible to completely change the established framework
A. Because the audience has developed an emotional connection to the original elements.
B. Because the original film’s framework is too inflexible to allow for changes.
C. Because the filmmakers lack the creativity to introduce new ideas.
D. Because the sequel must strictly stick to the original storyline.
30. How does Shen’s approach to character design contribute to the overall experience of Ne Zha 2
A. By making the film more technically advanced.
B. By balancing tradition with creative improvements.
C. By completely changing the original character designs.
D. By stressing the importance of audience preferences.
31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage
AToshow the box officesuccess of Ne Zha 2.
B. Toadvertise the global screening of Ne Zha 2.
C. Toanalyze Shen Wei’sdesign ideas and challenges in Ne Zha 2.
D. Tocompare the visual effectsof Ne Zha and Ne Zha 2.

Cheese and red wine are basic diets over the festive period, and if you love red wine and cheese, a new study
will come as music to your ears. Researchers from Iowa State University have found that drinking red wine and
eating cheese can help to reduce cognitive (认知的) decline.
In the study, the researchers analyzed data from 1,787 adults aged 46 to 77, and asked them to complete
questionnaires about their food and alcohol consumption (摄取). The results showed that cheese was the most
protective food against age-related cognitive problems, even into late life. Daily consumption of red wine was also
第 7页/共 13页
shown to improve cognitive function, while weekly consumption of lamb was shown to improve long-term
cognitive skills. However, over-consumption of salt was found to increase the risk of cognitive decline.
Dr. Auriel Willette, who led the study, said: “I was pleasantly surprised that our results suggest that
appropriately (合适地) eating cheese and drinking red wine daily are not just good for helping us cope with some
diseases, but perhaps also dealing with an increasingly complex world. Although we considered whether this was
just due to what rich people eat and drink, clinical trials (临床试验) at random are needed to determine if making
easy changes in our diet could help our brains in great ways.”
While the reason for the link remains unclear, the researchers believe that cheese and red wine may protect
some people from the effects of Alzheimer’s(阿尔茨海默病).
Brandon Klinedinst, an author of the study, added: “Depending on the genetic factors you carry, some
individuals seem to be more protected from the effectsof Alzheimer’s, while others seem to beat greater risk.
Perhaps the silver bullet we’re looking for is improving how we eat. Knowing what that involves contributes to a
better understanding of Alzheimer’s and putting this disease in an opposite path.”
32. Which of the following increases the risk of cognitive problems
A. Takingin too much salt.B. Eating cheese properly.
C. Drinking red wine daily.D. Consuming lamb weekly.
33. What can be inferred from paragraph 3
A. Changes in our diet help our brains in significant ways.
B. The diets of wealthy people were not taken into consideration.
C. The study results need to be proved by more clinical trials.
D. Some diseases make our world increasingly complex.
34. What does Brandon Klinedinst suggest on fighting Alzheimer’s disease
A. Developing advanced genetic treatments.B. Focusing on improving dietary habits.
C. Increasing clinical trials for new drugs.D. Studying the diets of wealthy populations.
35. What is the study mainly about
A. Basic diets over the festive period.B. Possible reasons for cognitive decline.
C. Feelings of pleasant music to people’s ears.D. Effectsof certain diets on cognitive decline.

Lin Wei,a quiet and reserved high school student from a small town in Hunan province, China. Her secret
passion was traditional Chinese dance. But she lacked confidence, always feeling awkward and out of place. The
only person who truly understood her was Mei, her classmate and friend. Mei, with her outgoing personality, had a
deep appreciation of different arts and cultures, and often spoke of how art could connect people across boundaries.
One day, Mei excitedly told Lin Weiabout an opportunity: a cultural exchange program in Brazil during the
Carnival season. The program was looking for students to showcase their talents and share their cultural heritage.
Mei, a talented singer of traditional Chinese folk songs, was already planning to try out. “LinWei,you should come
too!” she urged. “YourChinese dance is beautiful! It would be a perfect way to share our culture.”
Lin Weihesitated. The thought of performing in front of a large audience, especially in a foreign country,
terrified her. She imagined herself stumbling, forgetting the steps, and being laughed at. What if they don’t
understand my dance What if it’s too different These thoughts went around in her mind. But Mei didn’t give up.
She helped Lin Weichoose a beautiful piece of traditional Chinese music, helped her find a flowing silk costume
with wide sleeves, and even practiced with her, offeringencouragement and support, focusing on expressing the
emotions behind the movements. She reminded Lin Weiof how art, even without words, could tell stories and
touch hearts. Slowly, Lin Wei’sworry began to give way to a flicker of excitement.
Arriving in RioLin Weiwas overwhelmed by Carnival’s explosion of color and energy. She felt a wave of
panic. The confidence she’d built with Mei began to fall apart. The dazzling Samba dancers, their movements so
fluid and powerful, made her doubt herself even more. Could my quiet, subtle movements ever find a place here
She held Mei’s hand tightly, feeling small and insignificant.
Their first performance was scheduled for the next day. Lin Weispent the evening in her hotel room,
practicing her dance routine, but her heart wasn’t in it. The fear was back, stronger than ever. She looked at her
reflection, seeing a scared girl, not a confident performer.
