I realized it was high time that I should shoulder my responsibility. The next day, I had a heartfelt chat with Martin at his home. Sensing I was worth trusting, Martin sighed, “Thanks for your kindness. But burdened with huge family pressure, I feel my future will be dark.” In response, I held his hands firmly, convincing him that nothing was impossible with a willing heart. “Let’s fight for a promising future together, shall we ” I continued. He nodded slightly.
Gradually, positive changes were seen in Martin. He was no longer ashamed of his appearance. In classes, with his attention fixed on the Powerpoint slides and textbooks, he handled reading comprehension from scratch, managed to read lengthy texts and voiced his own opinions. During breaks, long gone were the days when Martin had escaped to his inner safe space. Befriending classmates around him, he found they were on the same wavelength. I came to realize that no matter what problems my students had, I, as a teacher, should try my best to help them out.

Essential Tips for Renting a Car in Germany
Planning to rent a car and fly down the German motorway Gather top tips here and find the best rental car for your trip through Germany.
Quick Tips
Search for rental cars before you fly to Germany, and book your car in advance. You will get better rates than booking upon arrival. German cars usually come with a manual transmission (手动挡). If you prefer an automatic transmission, ask the rental company and most can accommodate you. Rental cars are available at all airports and most major rail stations as well as locations in major cities.
Driver’s Requirements
To rent a car in Germany, you need a valid (有效的) driver’s license from your home state or province. Visitors may also consider getting an International Driving Permit as a companion document. However, it is not required for Germany. If you would like to continue to drive after six months to one year in Germany, you must obtain a German license. The legal driving age in Germany is 18, but usually, drivers have to be over 21 to rent a car.
Charges
Base rates vary wildly depending on the length of time of rental, the age of driver, destination, and location of rental. Shop around to find the best price. Note that charges usually don’t include the 16% Value Added Tax(VAT), registration fee, or any airport fees. These additional fees may equal up to 25% of the daily rental.
21.Why is it advised to book a car before arriving in Germany
A.To keep the car available in major cities.
B.To get a relatively low price of car rental.
C.To enjoy a high standard of rental service.
D.To rent a car with an automatic transmission.
22.What is necessarily required to rent a car in Germany
A.Obtaining a valid German license.
B.Having one-year driving experience.
C.Being at least twenty-one years old.
D.Getting an International Driving Permit.
23.Which factor may influence the base rental charges
A.VAT. B.Parking fee.
C.Registration fee. D.Rental duration.
【答案】21.B 22.C 23.D

根据Driver’s Requirements部分的“The legal driving age in Germany is 18, but usually, drivers have to be over 21 to rent a car. (德国的法定驾驶年龄是18岁,但通常情况下,司机必须年满21岁才能租车。)”可知,在德国租车,司机通常要年满21岁,这是必要条件,故选C项。
23.细节理解题。根据Charges部分的“Base rates vary wildly depending on the length of time of rental, the age of driver, destination, and location of rental. (基本费率因租车时长、司机年龄、目的地和租车地点的不同而有很大差异。)”可知,基本租金会因租车时长、司机年龄、目的地和租车地点的不同而有很大差异,所以租车时长(Rental duration)会影响基本租金,故选D项。

A new study has revealed that a prehistoric sea cow was the target of two different predators (捕食动物) — an ancient crocodile and a tiger shark, providing rare insights into the complex food chains from millions of years ago. The research, conducted by an international team of scientists and published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, uncovers one of the few known instances where a single prey (猎物) was attacked by many predators.
The sea cow, belonging to the extinct group Culebratherium, was first attacked by a crocodile. Evidence then shows that after the initial attack, the sea cow’s remains were searched by a tiger shark, a tooth of which was found near the unlucky animal’s neck.
“Have you seen the Batman movie There is a scene where he and Alfred are shooting bullets to try and figure out which specific type of bullet they are trying to find, ” said Benites-Palomino, lead author of the research. “Our research was conducted in exactly the same way. We have these experiments in the wild where predators are attacking their prey, and then afterwards we try to compare which is the best scene for what we’re finding there.”
The find is particularly significant as it adds to the limited fossil record of multiple predators interacting with a single prey. Such interactions are common in today’s ecosystems, but are rarely documented in the fossil record, making this discovery an important piece of the puzzle in understanding ancient food webs.
“We have been unsure as to which animals would have served this purpose as a food source for multiple predators. Our previous research has identified sperm whales searched by several shark species, and this new research highlights the importance of sea cows within the food chain, ” Benites- Palomino said in a statement.
The digging, directed by Marcelo Sanchez- Villagra, head of the Palaeontological Institute and Museum in Zurich, Switzerland, was both challenging and rewarding. The site was initially discovered by a local farmer who spotted unusual rocks, inspiring the team to investigate further and eventually unearth the sea cow fossils.
28.What do we know about the prehistoric sea cow
A.It reached the top of food chains. B.It is thought to have complex teeth.
C.It belongs to an endangered species. D.It was attacked by two different animals.
29.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A.The scene of animal fights. B.The method of the research.
C.The introduction of a movie. D.The danger of the experiments.
30.What does the importance of the study lie in
A.Challenging the current ecosystems. B.Offering insights into ancient food webs.
C.Clarifying the misunderstanding of sea cows. D.Figuring out the link between man and nature.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.The Batman Movie Inspired a Research B.A Puzzle in Complex Ancient Food Chains
C.Shark and Crocodile Ate Unlucky Sea Cow D.An Important Biological Discovery of a Farmer
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.B 31.C

根据第三段““Have you seen the Batman movie There is a scene where he and Alfred are shooting bullets to try and figure out which specific type of bullet they are trying to find, ” said Benites-Palomino, lead author of the research. “Our research was conducted in exactly the same way. We have these experiments in the wild where predators are attacking their prey, and then afterwards we try to compare which is the best scene for what we’re finding there.”(“你看过蝙蝠侠电影吗?有一个场景,他和阿尔弗雷德正在射击子弹,试图找出他们试图找到的特定类型的子弹,”该研究的主要作者贝尼特斯-帕洛米诺说。“我们的研究是以完全相同的方式进行的。我们在捕食者攻击猎物的野外进行了这些实验,然后我们试图比较哪种场景最适合我们在那里发现的东西。”)”可知,第三段主要讲了研究的方法。故选B。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段“The find is particularly significant as it adds to the limited fossil record of multiple predators interacting with a single prey. Such interactions are common in today’s ecosystems, but are rarely documented in the fossil record, making this discovery an important piece of the puzzle in understanding ancient food webs.(这一发现意义重大,因为它增加了有限的多种捕食者与单一猎物相互作用的化石记录。这种相互作用在今天的生态系统中很常见,但很少有化石记录,这使得这一发现成为理解古代食物网的重要拼图)”可知,这项研究的重要性在于提供对古代食物网的见解。故选B。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段“A new study has revealed that a prehistoric sea cow was the target of two different predators (捕食动物) — an ancient crocodile and a tiger shark, providing rare insights into the complex food chains from millions of years ago.(一项新的研究表明,史前海牛是两种不同捕食者的目标——一种古代鳄鱼和一种虎鲨,这为数百万年前复杂的食物链提供了难得的见解)”结合本文主要讨论了一项关于史前海牛的研究,这种海牛被两种不同的捕食者捕食,提供了对数百万年前复杂食物链的罕见见解。

Awe experiences typically involve the perception of something incredibly vast or powerful, something that challenges one’s understanding of the world. These are often, but not always, encounters with nature, such as looking over mountains from an airplane, or standing at the foot of an enormous tree. New developmental research suggests the experience of awe is crucial for a child to grow stronger.
Historically, awe has featured in psychological accounts of peak experiences. William James spoke extensively about various spiritual moments that intensely moved him and shaped his viewpoint. He felt strongly these peak experiences made for the deeper development of a person’s inner world.
Contemporary researchers theorize that awe may have helped our ancestors survive throughout history and continues to impart positive effects today. Previous studies have shown awe can be instrumental to the formation of social groups and can set off helpful social behaviors among adults.
But our research shows that perceptions of awe start much earlier in life. Four to nine-year-old children perceive and respond to awe-inspiring experiences and differentiate them from everyday experiences. When watching fantastic footage of sweeping natural scenes, the children perceived themselves as smaller — a phenomenon known as the “small self”— in comparison with how they felt after watching footage of everyday nature imagery. They further reported being filled with power, believing they were capable of achieving great things. Additionally, they felt a sense of curiosity and a desire to explore more, seeing themselves as adventurers on a journey of discovery.
In our busy lives, nevertheless, potential moments of awe often get overlooked. With the pressure to achieve seeping (渗透) into childhood earlier and earlier, it's easy to understand why you, as a parent, might be more focused on getting your children to the next activity or competition. However, as you become more receptive to sources of awe and knowledgeable about its importance during development, you’ll most likely see them obtain considerable advantages when giving awe experiences greater priority.
32.Which aspect of awe experience does the new study highlight

C.Its benefits for kids. D.Its impacts on adults’ behavior.
33.What does the underlined word “impart” mean in paragraph 3
A.Restrict. B.Withdraw. C.Generate. D.Transform.
34.How did the children feel when viewing footage of breathtaking scenery

35.What’s the purpose of the author in writing the last paragraph
A.To appeal to parents for a change.

C.To state his point on the fast-paced society.

【答案】32.C 33.C 34.B 35.A
根据第一段的最后一句“New developmental research suggests the experience of awe is crucial for a child to grow stronger.(新的发展研究表明,敬畏的经历对孩子的成长至关重要。)”
根据第四段的句子“They further reported being filled with power, believing they were capable of achieving great things. Additionally, they felt a sense of curiosity and a desire to explore more, seeing themselves as adventurers on a journey of discovery.(他们还说自己充满了力量,相信自己能够成就大事。此外,他们感到一种好奇心和探索更多的欲望,将自己视为探索之旅的冒险家。)”可知,孩子们在观看令人惊叹的景色时受到了激励。故选B项。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段的句子“In our busy lives, nevertheless, potential moments of awe often get overlooked. With the pressure to achieve seeping (渗透) into childhood earlier and earlier, it's easy to understand why you, as a parent, might be more focused on getting your children to the next activity or competition. However, as you become more receptive to sources of awe and knowledgeable about its importance during development, you’ll most likely see them obtain considerable advantages when giving awe experiences greater priority.(然而,在我们忙碌的生活中,潜在的敬畏时刻往往被忽视。 故选A项。

The weather blocking patterns created by climate change have caused increasing challenges for home gardeners. They have to deal with drought even if they don’t live in a traditionally dry climate. But, quite a few things can be done to save water on home garden. 36
Drip tape is the best way to save water on your home garden. It is a black hose (软管) you attach to your garden water source and then make holes where your plants are. 37 So it can greatly reduce the watering needs and saves up to 80% of water from evaporation (蒸发).
If you live in a hot climate, you probably know that watering your garden in the morning will just make it evaporate in the hot sun. 38 Or do it after the heat of the day has passed. You don’t want to water at night or you will get mold on your plants, but any time away from noon sun should help you save water on irrigating your garden.
If you don’t have time to stand around watering or remembering when to go outside for the best water conservation, put your sprinklers on a timer. You can buy one that go on a standard sprinkler. 39 Instead of wasting water soaking the whole garden, you can set your timer to water the thirsty plants longer, without wasting water or drowning the plants that don’t need that much.
You can also save water by growing drought-resistant plants. You can plant vegetables, flowers and trees that are native to your area. 40 We like to grow zucchini (西葫芦) even though no one really wants to eat it. But, quite a few things can be done to save water on home garden.(气候变化造成的天气阻塞模式给家庭园丁带来了越来越多的挑战。

It is a black hose (软管) you attach to your garden water source and then make holes where your plants are.(滴灌胶带是家庭花园节水的最好方法。
38.根据上文“If you live in a hot climate, you probably know that watering your garden in the morning will just make it evaporate in the hot sun.(如果你生活在炎热的气候中,你可能知道早上给花园浇水只会让它在炎热的阳光下蒸发)”可知,上文提到早上给花园浇水会导致水分蒸发,推测本句是在建议在没有太阳的时候给花园浇水,避免太多蒸发。
39.根据上文“If you don’t have time to stand around watering or remembering when to go outside for the best water conservation, put your sprinklers on a timer. You can buy one that go on a standard sprinkler.(如果你没有时间站在旁边浇水,也没有时间记得什么时候出去最节约用水,那就把你的洒水器装上定时器。你可以买一个安装在标准洒水喷头上的)”以及后文“Instead of wasting water soaking the whole garden, you can set your timer to water the thirsty plants longer, without wasting water or drowning the plants that don’t need that much.(不要浪费水浸泡整个花园,你可以设置计时器,给口渴的植物浇水,这样既不会浪费水,也不会淹死不需要那么多水的植物)”可知,上文建议给洒水器装上定时器,后文提到这么做不会浪费水,也不会让植物淹死,推测本句是在说明这一做法的好处。
40.根据上文“You can also save water by growing drought-resistant plants. You can plant vegetables, flowers and trees that are native to your area.(你也可以通过种植抗旱植物来节约用水。你可以种植当地的蔬菜、鲜花和树木)”可知,上文提到通过种植抗旱植物来节约用水,推测本句说明这类植物的特点,G选项中They指代上文vegetables, flowers and trees。故G选项“它们通常不需要很多额外的水或照顾”符合语境,故选G。

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a freezing cold December morning, I led Martin to the third-grade classroom I was in charge of. He lowered his head, which I thought was due to his shyness. Also, I noticed him wearing a pair of shoes apparently outgrowing his shoe size. “Maybe he comes from a financially disadvantaged family,” I thought to myself.
However, it was also hard to understand Martin’s behavior. When asked to make a self- introduction on the platform, he simply spelled his name, leaving the other students confused. Besides, Martin’s study habits and skills were nowhere to be seen. Unable to recognize some English letters, he even failed to write a short essay according to given instructions.
Therefore, I wondered whether a special school teaching kids with autism (自闭症) was more suitable for him. I looked through his previous grade reports, only to find that his academic performances in the first grade were great. To figure out what happened to him, I decided to visit his former school and communicate with the headteacher. I learned that Martin’s mom had a mental disorder after getting divorced last year. Now, the little boy had to take care of both himself and his mom. Since Martin’s brainpower was normal, he would stay put in my class.
I had never encountered a student like Martin before. It was a headache to help him fit into and catch up with his classmates. I had dreamed about teaching, so I hated it when the idea of giving up such a student lingered (萦绕) vividly in my mind.
Two days later, it was Martin’s turn to clean the blackboard. Rising to his feet and ready to walk to the platform, he was tripped by one student on purpose. Suddenly, he couldn’t resist weeping alone. Contrary to what I assumed, no one lent him a helping hand. I sent Martin to the infirmary (医务室) and screamed at the others that Martin’s difference was a reason for being treated warmly and nicely.

M: Microsoft, Apple, Samsung. Why do you always buy the foreign brands You should try the products of our own companies here in China. There are some very good phones. Text 10
W: Good morning, this is Samantha from The Weather Service, your free Internet weather station with news around the world and around the clock. Your preferred city is Guangzhou. In Guangzhou this week, we expect more heavy rains, since we are only at the beginning of June. May was rather dry, but the storms should pick up again before the weekend. Hong Kong is expected to get hit hardest with this next cycle of rain, but everywhere south of Shanghai along the coast should see some amount of rainfall. Guangzhou will get around four centimeters over the next five days. Another band of rain can be seen on the radar, but it’s too far south over the sea right now. So it’s hard to say when it will hit Guangzhou. This weather pattern should continue through June and into July, when the heavy rains will finally move to the north of China. This is the latest update for your Guangzhou weather. Remember, you can check back at The Weather Service anytime, day or night, to get updates on your local weather or the weather in your favorite city.

The legal driving age in Germany is 18, but usually, drivers have to be over 21 to rent a car.
Charges
Base rates vary wildly depending on the length of time of rental, the age of driver, destination, and location of rental. Shop around to find the best price.

A.Its historical origin. B.Places of its occurrence.
A.Contented. B.Motivated. C.Panicked. D.Confused.
35.What’s the purpose of the author in writing the last paragraph
A.To appeal to parents for a change.
B.To advocate a care-free childhood life.
C.To state his point on the fast-paced society.
D.To describe a common cultural phenomenon.

In fact, it’s one of the only plants growing normally during this season that started with late frost, then drought and heat, then wildfire smoke haze followed by soaking storms.
A.Water at the right time of day.
B.Water only goes where it’s needed.
C.Water slowly for better absorption.
D.This is a fantastic option for saving water.
E.Try watering your garden just before sunrise.
F.Here are some tips year round and in all climates
G.They usually don’t need a lot of extra water or attention.
