In the 1980s, during my high school years, Jane Fonda's workout videos were a huge hit. However, I wasn't into fitness back then. My lack of sports talent finally caught up with me after I quit smoking and put on a lot of weight. At 45, weighing 252 pounds, I felt out of shape and lost in life.
One day, I learned about a SiriusXM Town Hall event contest to meet Jane Fonda. I took a chance and entered. To my delight, I was one of the winners. As a fan of her movies, I was extremely excited. I dressed up nicely and went with my friend Jon to meet Jane Fonda.
At 75, Jane Fonda looked amazing in person, dressed in all black and appearing much younger. She was also very kind and friendly. We had a great chat about the film Peace, Love & Misunderstanding and took a photo together. One of the radio network's organizers promised to send me photos of us, so I was excited when I received an e-mail from her the next day with the subject line saying that the Jane Fonda picture was attached. But my excitement turned to embarrassment and dislike when I got a good look at the photo. Fonda was thirty years older than me, but she looked better than me, and more youthful, too. Her effort to fitness had really paid off. The photo really bothered me, which became a wake-up call.
I made a New Year's resolution (决心) to get fit. Starting with mall walking, I gradually increased my exercise intensity. Eventually, I lost 85 pounds and participated in over 300 road races, including 10 marathons. All these positive changes in my life started from that photo with Jane Fonda.
4.What was the main problem the author faced before meeting Jane Fonda
A. She was addicted to smoking.
B She disliked Jane Fonda's movies.
C. She was overweight and felt lost in life.
D. She had a poor relationship with her friends.
5. How did the author feel when she saw the photo with Jane Fonda
A. Excited. B. Ashamed. C. Indifferent. D. Puzzled.

B. She didn't care about her appearance at all.
C. She kept fitness and had a pleasant personality.
D. She was unfriendly to the author and her fans.
7.What did the author do to lose weight
A. She only joined in road races around the mall.
B. She took part in running marathons with her friends.
C. She strictly followed a balanced diet plan and quit smoking.
D. She began with simple exercises and gradually increased them.

It was after midnight in Quito when Stella de la Torre and I went to see the smallest monkey in the world.
The world's smallest monkey is called the pygmy marmoset(侏儒狨猴), and it is, literally, very small. Despite the tiny size, pygmy marmosets have-developed a complex survival system based on talking to each other constantly. Infants are often born in pairs and nursed by their mothers, carried around by their fathers, and watched over by their siblings. They live in family groups of around half a dozen until the younger adults go out to find a mate. Different groups have distinct dialects. As infants, pygmy marmosets babble in the way human babies do, both to get their parents' attention and to learn the group dialect. They do not often like to eat fruit, but they do hunt insects, and as they hunt, they chatter to each other through the trees.
De la Torre, an ecologist at the San Francisco University of Quito, in Ecuador, has recorded their method of communication. Their brief, high-pitched alarm whistle sounds almost like a cricket or a bird. Amid the constant roar of rainforest lie, it is not easy to tell apart, but de la Torre has developed sensible ears over a lifetime of study. She also helped categorize the pygmy marmoset into two distinct species: Cebuella pygmaea and Cebuella niveiventris.
Within those ranges, pygmy marmosets only live in certain places. Their habitats are known as gallery forests. Gallery forests' proximity(靠近) to water makes them attractive to people who want to build houses with yards that slope down to the river. This development, along with agriculture and the oil industry, has slowly carved into the places where pygmy marmosets live. Over the past decade, de la Torre has watched her research subjects disappear. Ecuador has been making "ongoing efforts to protect the remaining monkey populations and pygmy marmosets are on Ecuador's red list of endangered species. However, several specialists disagree about the status of their populations in other countries.
8.What is the main idea of paragraph 2
A. The threats pygmy marmosets face in the wild.
B. The physical appearance of the pygmy marmoset.
C. The complex survival system of the pygmy marmoset.
D. The differences between the pygmy marmoset and other species.
9. What does the underlined word "categorize" mean in paragraph 3
A. Move. B. Reduce. C. Clear. D. Classify.
10.Which of the following can best describe De la Torre
A. Careless and warm-hearted. B. Responsible and observant.
C. Cautious and modest. D. Strict and supportive.
11.What is Ecuador's atiude towards the pygmy marmoset's status
A. Concerned. B. Indifferent. C. Optimistic. D. Negative.
D
A farmer in Cornwall is working with scientists at the University of Plymouth, UK to test robots, including robotic dogs, on his farm. The robots will measure the health of the soil. Soil is made up of small particles of rock and organic matter (dead plants and animals), along with water and air.
For farmers, it is very important that soil is healthy so it can provide plants with enough nutrients—substances that living things need in order to grow. Unhealthy soil, also called degraded soil, can lead to crops not growing well and farmers losing some of their money. In the UK, soil holds more water than all the country's lakes and rivers combined (around 130 trillion liters). Farmers can test the soil in their fields by taking samples and sending them off to a lab, but this takes time and can be expensive.
The robots, made by a company called Robotriks, have been equipped with gamma ray detectors (探测器).These sensors measure radiation(辐射),which is a type of energy that is given off by matter. The gamma ray detector can work out the amount of moisture and organic matter in the soil by measuring radiation. The robotic dogs are particularly useful because they can reach the soil in all sorts of areas, including steep hills and under hedgerows, and they have legs that help them to climb across difficult surfaces. Thy can also travel at speeds of up to five meters per second. Farmers can get quick results using the robots too, which means they can improve the soil health faster or plant their crops in another field if they need to.
In the future, farmers will be able to use robots to test soil. These robots, with their advanced features and user-friendly functions, may be used by the farmers working around the world. This widespread adoption is expected to change moder agriculture greatly, making soil testing more approachable and efficient.
12.What's the primary purpose of the robots serving on the farm
A. Collecting crops. B. Measuring soil health
C. Controlling pests. D. Watering plants.
13. What can be inferred about traditional soil testing methods
A. They are time-consuming. B. They/are inexpensive
C. They are very accurate. D. They are convenient
l4. Which makes robotic dogs particularly useful
A. Their small size. B. Their advanced sensors.
C. Their rapid movement on the ground. D. Their ability to reach different places.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. A Farmer Tests Soil with High-Tech Robots
