Dear Eric,
I am Li Hua, a Chinese senior high student. Having read your post on TikTok, I’m writing in hope of becoming your language learning partner.
I am the right person you are looking for as a language learning companion. Firstly, as a bilingual, I have a good command of both Chinese and English, which removes most possible barriers getting in the way of our communication. Secondly, since a language acts as a carrier of a culture, I am an ideal companion who can introduce you to some aspects of Chinese culture, such as the art of calligraphy and traditional folk handicrafts.
Hoping we can enjoy each other’s company and looking forward to your early reply.
Yours sincerely, Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
[参考范文]
Then I honestly took off my hat to show my half haircut to him. Seeing this, both the barber and the guest waiting for him to serve laughed. But then the barber’s eyes softened with sympathy. With the guest’s permission, to serve me first, he said, “Let’s see what we can do.” He gestured for me to take a seat and quickly got to work, carefully cutting and styling my hair with skilled hands. As the minutes ticked by, I could feel the tension in my shoulders easing, replaced by a growing sense of relief.
Seeing my beautiful hair in the mirror, I was very satisfied and touched. The barber had transformed my messy attempt into a neat and stylish cut that suited me perfectly. “There you go,” he said with a smile, “all set for your graduation photos.” I expressed my heartfelt gratitude to him and the guest. The next morning, when I took the graduation photo with my classmates confidently, I realized that their act of kindness not only saved my graduation photos but also taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of compassion and going the extra mile for others.

W: I can’t decide what I want to eat for dinner tonight. Do I feel like Italian food or Thai food Indian or Chinese American or Turkish I don’t need to travel around the world; all these choices are available in a typical inner city in Australia.
Australian food has many different cultural influences. Over the past century, people from many countries have come to Australia. These migrants(移民) have contributed to the melting pot that is Australian food.
“Whether you’re after modern, traditional or exotic (异国风情的) flavors, Australia’s various dining scene offers a wide range of the world’s great cuisines (菜肴), ” the Visit Victoria website noted.
Chinese students in Australia find it easy to get a Chinese meal. Cities like Sydney have large Chinatowns, but many towns in the country also have a Chinese takeaway restaurant. Popular Australian-Chinese dishes may not always seem the same as the original—Honey chicken, for example—but you can still find dumplings and noodles.
Even so, Australia has its own, very Australian dish: meat pie. It’s a real classic! The dish is on the menu at every house party and sporting place, and is eaten every morning after a big night.2024-2025 学年第二学期六校联合体3月调研测试

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

The Grand Canyon, the Napa Valley, New Orleans—the United States biggest draws have long captured imaginations across the globe. But in some ways, big isn’t always best, at least where carbon footprints are concerned. From kayaking (划独木舟) the Everglades to going electric in Washington, DC, here are four trips where you can go sustainably while still enjoying the very best of the US.
Kayak the Everglades
Avoid the typical motor-powered boat tour across Florida’s 1.5 million-acre wetlands for a gentler experience. Paddling (用桨划) a kayak through the thousands of islands, you’ll get the chance to spot dolphins, sea turtles and manatees. Extend your visit with an expert-led kayak camping trip, lasting between two and four days.
Take a hike through Yosemite
Most visitors tour California’s national park by car. But on Wildland Trekking’s six-day Wonders of Yosemite trip, you’ll explore lakes, rivers and grassland without leaving a trace, sleeping under a blanket of stars and experiencing it at its remotest parts.
Swim around Hawaii
Hawaii’s Big Island is one of the most dramatic natural corners of the US, home to lava fields and forests encircled by blue sea. SwimTrek offer a one-week swimming tour of the island, taking in Garden Eel Cove—famed for its manta rays (蝠鲼)—and Mahai’ula Bay, home to turtles, which you can watch from a respectful distance.
Go electric in Washington, DC
Visit the greatest hits of the US capital, from the White House to the Smithsonian, on a three days’ tour in an electric car. With stops along the way, you’ll get to stretch legs and explore, while your guide’s tips will make you keen to return for further discovery.
21. What can visitors do when taking a hike through Yosemite
A. Observe manta rays. B. Enjoy the starry sky.
C. Take a guided camping trip. D. Protect a piece of grassland.
22.Which trip lasts the longest
A. Take a hike through Yosemite. B. Go electric in Washington, DC.
C. Swim around Hawaii. D. Kayak the Everglades.
23.What do the four trips have in common

B. They offer professional guides.
C. They are favored by animal lovers.
D. They feature beautiful natural scenery.

Frankie Gaw, an Asian American food creator and author of a cookbook, is known for his unique approach to cuisine. He changes American classics with an Asian twist, creating dishes like a Pop-Tart topped with strawberry litchi frosting (糖霜) and a Happy Meal that includes fried pork, cucumber salad and a Yakult. Gaw’s social media page is filled with videos of these innovative creations.
“I asked myself, ‘Since the world is much more inclusive and embraces all of these diverse flavors (风味), what are the things that Asian Americans would want to see ’” Gaw talked about how his hit social media cooking series “Turning American Classics Asian” came to be.
The idea appeared after a trip to his local supermarket. Walking through aisles (过道), Gaw noticed that much of the food stocked on the shelves was similar to what he saw as a kid 20 years ago. Meanwhile, ingredients like soy sauce and miso (味噌) were still strictly grouped in “Asian” aisles. For many immigrants and children of immigrants, food is an important part of life. For Gaw, standing between the “Asian” aisle and the rest of the grocery store was also symbolic of his upbringing in Cincinnati, Ohio. Growing up, Gaw felt like he was living a double life. In public, Gaw enjoyed McDonald’s chicken and fries. At home, he enjoyed his grandmother’s beef noodle soup.
Years later in his Seattle apartment, Gaw began experimenting with his childhood favorites. He changed Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup and turned it into porridge. He added miso to the macaroni and cheese (芝士通心粉). Gaw shared his food on social media. It went viral. His food and his experiences at the grocery store received strong feedback, especially from other Asian Amcricans.
“Turning American classics Asian is not just about my appreciation for Asian flavors and ingredients, or disrespect to American staples(主食). Instead, it’s my way of showing respect for both—and on a larger scale, for the experiences of Asian Americans. Seeing this familiar food at a fast-food restaurant makes me feel like I have a seat at the table.” he said.

B. He gives American dishes an Asian flavor.
C. He attacks the lack of changes in American dishes.
D. He focuses on maintaining traditional Asian dishes.
25.Why does the author mention Gaw walking through supermarket aisles
A. To show how Gaw was inspired to create his cooking series.
B. To show the unreasonable arrangments of American supermarkets.
C. To imply Gaw’s disappointment with the limited food options.
D. To imply it’s difficult for immigrants to adapt to American food.
26.What does the underlined sentence “ It went viral ” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Gaw’s food creations gained popularity quickly.
B. Gaw decided to stop sharing his food creations.
C. Gaw suffered from big trouble at the beginning.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has undoubtedly become an important part of modern life, changing the way we live. From smart home devices to advanced medicine, AI’s influence is everywhere. However, this rapid advancement has also caused significant concerns about its potential impact on society.
On one hand, AI offers incomparable benefits. It can automate repetitive tasks, increase productivity, and provide solutions to complex problems. For instance, AI-driven medical imaging can detect diseases with higher accuracy(准确性), and AI-powered chatbots can assist students with their assignments. The technology’s ability to learn and adapt is particularly impressive, allowing computers to think and act in a more human-like manner. Machine learning enables computers to improve their performance based on experience, making them more efficient and effective over time.
There are also fears about AI’s potential to outsmart humans and pose existential threats. A letter signed by over 1,000 technology experts, including Elon Musk, has called for a pause in the development of advanced AI due to the risks it poses to society. The Future of Life Institute, a non-profit organization, also appeals for a temporary halt(暂停), emphasizing the need to address these risks. A report by Goldman Sachs suggests that AI could replace 300 million full-time jobs, raising concerns about widespread unemployment and economic destruction. The fear is that AI systems could become uncontrollable and make decisions that are not in the best interest of humanity.
Despite these concerns, some remain optimistic about AI’s potential. Advocates(支持者)argue that AI is already delivering significant social and economic benefits. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, has called for collaboration (合作) between governments and the tech industry to mitigate AI’s risks while drawing on its potential, especially in developing countries. He believes that focusing AI on global challenges can lead to positive outcomes. AI can help address issues like climate change, potentially improving the quality of life for millions of people.
While AI offers huge benefits, it also presents significant challenges. Balancing these aspects will require careful consideration and collaborative efforts to ensure that AI serves humanity’s best interests. As we continue to develop AI technologies, it is critical to remain cautious and positive in addressing the impacts of these advancements.
28. What do the examples mentioned in Paragraph 2 indicate
A. Humans are losing control over AI.
B. AI benefits humans in various fields.
C. Some job opportunities are lost to AI.
D. AI’s development should be increased.
29. What is the major concern of the letter signed by technology experts
A. The potential of AI replacing human jobs.
B. The probability of AI endangering mankind.
C. The appeal for more advanced AI development.
D. The economic impact of AI on developing countries.
30. What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage
A. To highlight the benefits of AI.
B. To promote the development of AI.
C. To advocate setting limitations on AI.
D. To present a balanced viewpoint on AI.
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A. AI is a technology with significant benefits.
B. AI brings risks that require immediate action.
C. AI is a double-edged sword with both benefits and risks.
D. Governments should halt AI development to avoid risks.
D
Reading, writing and sharing poetry can help people deal with loneliness and relieve feelings of anxiety, a new study shows.
Research by the University of Plymouth and Nottingham Trent University found that many people took to sharing, discussing and writing poetry as a means to seek the positive impact on their well-being. As readers connect with the emotions and experiences of the poet, this emotional resonance (共鸣)can contribute to a sense of shared humanity, reducing feelings of loneliness and causing deeper interpersonal connections. Additionally, the act of reading or writing poetry can provide an emotional release (释放), helping to manage stress and anxiety, which is important for maintaining mental health.
The findings are based on a survey of 400 people which showed that poetry helped those experiencing common mental health symptoms(症状)as well as those suffering from grief. Over half (55%) of respondents indicated that reading and/or writing poetry had helped them deal with feelings of loneliness, and for a further 50% it had helped with feelings of depression. Around a third (34%) felt that it helped them feel “less anxious”, 24% felt that it helped them “feel better able to solve my problems”, 17% expressed that it enabled them to deal with issues relating to loss of friends or relatives, while 16% said it helped with ongoing mental health symptoms.
“These results show the power of poetry,” said Anthony Caleshu, Professor of Poetry and Creative Writing at the University of Plymouth. “Writing and reading poetry, as well as engaging with the website, had a considerable positive impact on the well-being of the participants.”
In addition to supporting their health and well-being, the website informed social and cultural recovery and offered an understanding of how poetry was being used as a mode of conversation. Poetry often reflects cultural heritage and personal identity, providing a sense of belonging and self-awareness. This connection to one’s roots and to universal human experiences can strengthen self-esteem (自尊) and provide comfort in times of need. It now provides a means for how people around the world use poetry to manage their life.
32. Why does reading poetry help with feelings of anxiety
A. It improves physical health through relaxation.
B. It promotes people’s confidence in themselves.
C. It provides an understanding of personal identity.
D. It offers an emotional expression and connection.
33. According to Paragraph 2, how many participants felt their anxiety reduced
A. About 200. B. About 136. C. About 96. D. About 64.

About ten years ago, I was a high school student during some financially challenging years. There was a period of time when I couldn’t be bothered about hair in general, and I didn’t want to spend a fortune on cutting my hair. So, whenever I went home for the weekend, I would just borrow my dad’s shaver (剃须刀) and give myself a really short haircut.
One weekend, I decided it was time for my haircut. Unfortunately, I left it until about thirty minutes before I had to catch my train back to school. That would have been fine, except my dad’s shaver chose that exact moment to run out of batteries. So, there I was, with a half-cut head, in a rush to go, or otherwise, I would have missed my train. I decided, anyhow, to put on a hat, onto the train, and off to my dormitory.
After getting to my dormitory, my roommates informed me that we would be taking our graduation photos at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning, including both group and individual shots. What should I do I had to walk a long way to find a barbershop in the street. I visited a few barbershops, but they refused me because I didn’t have an appointment (预约).
Finally, when I was almost desperate (绝望的), I caught sight of a barbershop. Although there was a guest waiting to be served, I finally decided to go in. I said, “Excuse me, I completely messed up my hair over the weekend. Do you have any drop-in appointments ” The barber replied, “Sorry, we’re fully booked right now. How about Tuesday ”I said, “No. I can’t wait. I need to have my graduation photo at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning. And I mustn’t wear the hat to do it.” Hearing this, the barber felt sorry for me. He looked at me, then looked at the hat, and looked back at me. “How bad is it ”
