Tom, age 11, is growing out his hair for the third time to help other kids, though some kids are mean to him. "When I was five, my friend gave away hair and I thought it would be a good idea. Kids in my school and other places often made fun of me, saying I looked like a girl. Even grown-ups did. But I stuck it out. I knew why I was doing it. My hair would help provide free hairpieces to children in need. It felt good to make others happy. I learned to be strong and to stand up for my beliefs."

I was tired, but I had little time to think about it. I gave her my board and swam to the boy, who'd gone under. Waves crashed over us as we headed to shore. I don't see myself as a hero, just lucky to be there. It reminded me how precious and unpredictable life is."

An electrical fire had started in the top of the house, and smoke alarms hadn't gone off because the fire was above them. "I paid attention when the firefighters came to talk with us in Grade 3. (2025·青浦模拟)Do you agree with gene (基因) editing
Andy: Every year, many babies are born with genetic (遗传的) problems. If we can get rid of these problems by editing their genes, we can save many lives. Meanwhile, editing genes allows parents to choose their babies' appearance and even intelligence. This can give their children a better future. However, to stop some people from using this technology in bad ways, it's necessary to have laws that tell us how we are allowed to edit genes.
Diana: Parents make the decision to edit a baby's genes without their children's agreement. This goes against the rights of these unborn children. More importantly, this technology may destroy humans' genetic diversity (多样性) . In my opinion, you are unique and no one can replace you. However, this could change if parents can edit their babies' genes. Everyone might look the same someday.
Cici: This new technology can help fix babies' problems that they are born with, like heart diseases. Many children suffer from these things. ________ But with this technology, all babies can be born healthy and their parents won't have to worry about them.
Kate: This technology could be risky. It could result in some problems for babies if it is not used properly. Their parents may regret this. (2025·虹口模拟)How to bank a seed!
Scientists are working to save world's plants from dying out. Storing a seed correctly can make its life longer by hundreds of years. Just like a regular bank, a seed bank is a safe place to save for the future. But this special vault contains seeds, not money! Find out how the scientists do it… 1. Collection Successful seed banking starts with collecting! Along with the seeds, scientists must gather essential information about the plants' location and time of year they were gathered. 2. Drying out The drying room is a lot less humid than a regular room. Depending on a seed's size, it'll stay there for between two weeks and six months, slowly drying out. 3. Clean up & X-rays They are either cleaned by hand or with a machine that removes dirt and damaged seeds. Then, an X-ray machine examines a sample of the seeds to check what percentage of them are damaged, empty or have bugs inside! 4. Into the vault It's now time for most of the seeds to go into the vault! They're stored in air-tight containers at -20℃ in underground rooms. If all goes to plan, they should survive for hundreds of years. 5. Testing time After a few months, a sample will be tested to see if they've survived, Scientists take a careful note of the best ways to germinate each seed so that they can be grown successfully by scientists of the future. 6. How to Choose books you'll love
Do you have trouble choosing a book to read With so many choices, it can be hard to decide which books are right for you. Here are some tips of choosing the ones you're more likely to enjoy.
 55.
Thinking about stories you've enjoyed in the past can give you clues about what genres① you prefer. Maybe you like science fiction, which transports you to completely made-up worlds. Think about the topics that interest you or an interest you have and want to know more about.
Ask for recommendations②

(2024·上海市模拟)Choose the best answer (根据以下内容,选择最恰当的答案)It happens to all of us. It is the end of the semester and your teacher gives you your report card. You look at it and your heart stops because you realize that your parents are going to be very angry. This is the classic case of a bad report card! There is nothing you can do to change the past. So, what do you do now
A disappointing report card is something that almost all students will experience at least once in their lives. Grades are how most schools evaluate(评价)students and they are pretty important. The problem is that we do not always get good grades we (or our parents) want. After a bad report card, it is important to figure out what to do next.
The first thing to do is talk to your teacher. Find out how your grades were calculated. Was the problem a bad test, lack of participation(参与)in class, or a failure to complete homework Next, if the problem is something you can solve on your won (such as not doing your homework), make a promise to change your behaviour! However, if you have been studying hard and still got a bad grade, you probably need some extra help with your classes. Talk to your teacher and explain your situation. He or she will tell you where you can receive the extra help you need. Then, make a detailed plan of how you will improve your grades. Write down the plan and have it ready when you take to your parents. That's good way to make your parents less angry.
While all parents want their children to get good grades, most understand that not every report card will be perfect. The important thing is that you show your parents you have a plan to improve your grades for next time. Like visible light, UV rays are energy waves released by the sun, only they cannot been seen. Some exposure (暴露) to those waves can do a body good. For example, ultraviolet B (UV-B) rays tell human skin to make vitamin D. Too much exposure can be harmful, though. Overexposure to UV rays can cause DNA problems, opening the door for skin cancer.
Too much sun can also cause painful sunburns.
There are three different types of UV energy waves. They are UV-A, UV-B and UV-C rays. Each type moves at a different wavelength, with UV-A's being the longest. Rays of UV-C are considered especially harmful to human beings.
Fortunately, we have the ozone (臭氧) layer of the Earth's atmosphere. It blocks out nearly all of the UV-C rays and most of the UV-B ones.
The moon doesn't have much of an atmosphere, though. Back on the moon, things are more dangerous. Over the years, astronauts have planted six American flags on the moon. Some scientists think that powerful UV rays could have bleached all the colorful flags white by now. For this reason, the moon is a dangerous place to visit without protection. You might think that astronauts who visit the moon would come home with terrible sunburns. That didn'thappen to
Armstrong and his company. Neil Armstrong was a U. S. astronaut and the first person to walk on the moon. These astronauts all wore special spacesuits on their missions. Spacesuits were made with heavy fabrics that block out UV rays.
When Armstrong set foot on the lunar surface, he was wearing a see-through helmet (头盔) with sun shades that were made of ultraviolet-stabilized polycarbonate. It is a very tough plastic that protects astronauts' faces from UV rays. A
weaker material could put the space travelers at risk for "snow blindness" and other problems. Conditions like these arise when UV rays damage parts of the human eyes.
Sunscreen (防晒霜) defends us from the UV rays that do pass through the ozone layer. However, there's really no need for an astronaut to put on sunscreen. The risk of sunburn goes way down when astronauts are inside a spaceship. Inside
the International Space Station (ISS), for example, there is no need for special suits. Astronauts regularly do their work in nothing but common cotton shirts and pants. To protect them from sunburns, the ISS uses UV-blocking windows. So do most space exploration ships.

A.漂白 B.伤害 C.刺穿 D.吹拂

A.there was no UV-C ray on the moon
B.the moon had an ozone layer like the earth
C.he wore a special spacesuit and helmet
D.he put on enough special sunscreen
71.According to the last paragraph, we can learn ____
A.sunscreen plays a great role in protecting astronauts in space
B.astronauts have to do their work in special suits in the ISS
C.UV-blocking windows are regularly used on spaceships
D.the risk of sunburns increases when astronauts are in space
72.What's the writer's purpose of writing the passage
A.To show how astronauts are protected from UV rays.
B.To introduce the first human who walked on the moon.
C.To describe the new technology used in space.
D.To show how we protect ourselves from sunburns.
