(2024·湖北武汉·中考真题)You may have a house robot that can do housework for you. But is it so smart Meet Laura, a robot in the National Library in Madrid, Spain, copying out the old books and writings in its collection. See Aurora, a headless dog-sized robot used to keep birds and other animals away at an Alaskan airport. Watch another 1.8 meter-tall legless robot called EveR6, waving its arms to guide musicians through a performance.
Those robots above require artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能). AI is a computer system (系统) that can understand languages, make decisions and solve problems. AI can be taught skills using a process called machine learning. Humans give AI information such as books, photos or videos to train it. The more information it studies, the better it can do its job.
________. For example, when you watch TV, AI is watching you. It’ll know what your favorite is and suggest similar ones. In hospitals, AI is very good at suggesting treatments and can even invent new medicines. To cut down food waste, some schools introduce online systems for the students to choose meals ahead of time. In cities, AI is used to watch out for cars that make black smoke. It works together with the police and transportation teams to stop them and keep the air clean. AI can help us fight climate (气候) change by finding clever ways to reduce energy use.
Some people worry that AI will take away a large number of jobs and also fear that AI could develop out of our control and bring danger to humans. However, AI is expected to be a more powerful production tool that will help humans achieve more in less time. It is believed that the flying car will be made to offer an easier way out of the morning traffic jam (交通堵塞). Humans imagine AI might even find a way to solve the problems of our energy needs completely. Anyway, there is still a long journey for humans and AI.

(2025·湖北武汉·模拟预测)“I knew that the Just Go Zero project could bring many benefits,” says Emmanouil Antonios Fotaras, one of 745 residents (居民) living on Tilos, a small Greek island located between Rhodes and Kos, “but I didn’t expect its influence would be so powerful.” Now Tilos has become the world’s first zero-waste island.
Before the project began, 87 percent of the island’s waste was sent to a landfill (垃圾填埋厂). Now this has proved such a success that Tilos no longer has any rubbish bins and the landfill site has closed completely. In its place is Center for Creative Upcycling, where items can either be repaired or reused.
The project is controlled by Polygreen, a Greek company that specializes in circular economy (循环经济), but much of their success comes through education.
They begin by setting up an information center in the port so that residents can learn about how to separate their waste. Each household is then given its own zero-waste equipment (设备), including boxes for recyclable and non-recyclable waste and a bag for organic waste. Regular door-to-door collections are organized across the island, and a smartphone app collects real-time information to show Polygreen how much has been recycled. All waste will be taken to the 3K Circular Innovation Center for high-tech waste handling solutions.
Any visitors to Tilos have to take part in the project as well. Hotels have special equipment for separating rubbish and tourists can pick up cloth bags for shopping from Zero Point Information Center.

(2025·湖北武汉·模拟预测)The mysterious “Great Attractor”is pulling the Milky Way galaxy (银河系) off course (轨道). No matter what we’re doing right now—siting, standing, walking—we’re moving.
___★___ First, the Earth is turning very fast while it’s in space, going about 1,000 miles per hour, or 1,600 kilometers per hour. This turning makes our days and nights. Next, the Earth and the other planets are going around the sun. We move at about 67,000 miles per hour, or 108,000 kilometers per hour. This movement makes our seasons and years. Also, the sun and everything around it is going around the middle of our galaxy, the Milky Way, really fast—over 500,000 miles per hour, or 828,000 kilometers per hour. Besides everything in the universe is always getting bigger as it spreads out.
But in the 1970s, space experts noticed that something was different about the galaxies close to us, called the Local Group. These galaxies were being pulled away from their normal course really fast, towards something we couldn’t see. They named this place the Great Attractor, but it’s hard to learn more because we can’t see it well.
“The Milky Way has so many stars and dust, which hide what we want to see in that direction. So our galaxy is hiding the Great Atractor,” says Jorge Moreno, a space expert. This place we can’t see is called the Zone of Avoidance by scientists. We still don’t know everything about why the Milky Way and the other galaxies are being pulled off course, but there have been some ideas. Most recently, the prime suspect (可疑对象) is a very big group of galaxies called Laniakea, which means “big sky” in Hawaiian.
1.Which of the following can be put in ____★_____
A.Why is the Milky Way galaxy being pulled off course
B.The Great Attractor has a magic power.
C.How can the secrets of the universe be unlocked
D.Actually, we’re moving in at least four different ways.
2.What causes the Earth’s days and nights according to the passage
A.The other planets’ going around the sun. B.The movement around the Milky Way
C.The Earth’s turning around itself. D.The expansion (膨胀) of the universe.
3.People can’t see the Great Attractor well because __________.
A.it is too far away B.too many stars and dust block that direction
C.it’s going around so fast D.it’s not bright:enough in the universe
4.The underlined phrase “Zone of Avoidance” in the last paragraph probably means “_________”.
A.a hidden part of the sky B.the speed of galaxy movement
C.a galaxy-free space D.the cause of galaxy attraction
5.What can we infer about the Great Attractor
A.It is located somewhere within the Milky Way.
B.It is a large object influencing the movement of nearby galaxies.
C.It was discovered in 1970.
D.It's a single galaxy which pulls on other galaxies around.

(2025·湖北武汉·模拟预测)For many winter holidays provide perfect chance to enjoy themselves. This can certainly make it easy to put on weight. “Holiday weight gain isn’t all from celebrating,” says Christina Badaracco, a dietitian (营养学家).
Some animals like to eat more to keep warm in cold weather, when food historically is more valuable (宝贵的). We human beings are just like them in this way. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables aren’t in season this time of year, leading us to eat richer foods.
“In winter, we get less sunlight and stay inside more,” says Badaracco. This can influence metabolism (新陈代谢), which plays a role in holiday weight gain.
We move less in cold days. People are less active during the winter months. They have less interest in getting outside to exercise or even drive to the gym. More than one-third of the Americans reported sleeping more in winter.
Besides, when the temperature drops and daylight hours reduce, we feel especially cold.
Therefore, many people like to find comfort in drinks.
According to a survey, people expected to gain 5.5 pounds over the winter holiday, but research suggests that in fact, most people gained only around 1.5 pounds. “People always think that they will gain more weight over the holidays than they actually do, but the weight they do gain over the holidays will increase over time if they don’t lose it,” Badaracco says. In fact, some research has found that those weight gains add up over the years.
It is completely normal to have weight changes throughout the year. The key is that you intervene early if it continues growing over time. You can make an exercise plan, weigh yourself daily, or find a friend to keep you company. “It’s more important and useful to set small, slow and manageable goals. Then you can aim higher through small wins,” says Badaracco.
1.Why are animals mentioned in paragraph 2
A.To tell how animals live through winter. B.To show how valuable food is in history.
C.To better explain why people eat more in winter. D.To make a comparison between humans and animals.
2.According to the passage, what is difficult for people in winter
A.Getting less sunlight. B.Having more hot drinks.
C.Having more sleeping time. D.Doing outdoor activities.
3.What does Badaracco want to stress in paragraph 6
A.It’s necessary to lose those holiday pounds. B.People have become fatter and fatter year by year.
C.Most people gain 1.5 pounds over the winter holiday. D.People gain less weight than they think over the holidays.
4.Which of the following can be put in ★
A.We prefer hot dishes in cold weather B.We move less in cold days
C.Animals sleep more during winter months D.Exercising outdoors becomes popular in winter
5.What does Badaracco suggest in the last paragraph
A.People should stay inside more in cold weather. B.People should enjoy themselves during holidays.
C.People should be patient while trying to lose weight. D.People shouldn’t put on much weight during holidays.

(2025·湖北武汉·模拟预测)If you could travel in time, where would you go Perhaps you would watch a performance of Shakespeare’s greatest play in Elizabethan England What about hanging out with Laozi in the Spring and Autumn Period Or maybe you’d travel far ahead of the present day to see what the future holds.
Stories exploring the subject have been around for hundreds of years. Perhaps the best-known example is science fiction novel The Time Machine, which was written by H.G. Wells and came out in 1895. It was adapted (改编) into at least two films of the same name, as well as two television versions and a large number of comic book adaptations. The term “time machine”, put forward by H.G.Well, now generally refers to a vehicle (交通工具) transporting people into the far future.
___★____ Some scientists say yes. They suggest using cracks (裂缝) in time and space called “wormholes”, which could serve as shortcuts to other periods. Einstein’s theory (理论) of relativity allows time travel in extreme cases. And Stephen Hawking said you could travel into the future with a really fast spaceship—going at nearly the speed of light, though building such a spaceship wouldn’t of course be simple.
Even if you could travel into the past, there is something called the “grandfather paradox”. It asks what would happen if a time traveler were to go back in time and have his own grandfather killed for some reasons, and therefore prevent himself from being born. If the time traveler wasn’t born, how would he travel back in time
In H.G. Wells’s book, the main character travels into distant time where he arrives at a beach and is attacked by giant crabs. He then travels 30 million years into the future where the only living thing is a black object with tentacles (触角).
If that’s what’s in store, maybe we’re better just living in the present day after all.

(2025·湖北武汉·模拟预测)Maths is all around. Some love the challenge of working out maths problems, but many fear the moment when they have to deal with numbers and feel a real sense of confusion. This “maths anxiety” is perfectly normal, and you’re certainly not alone. And anyway, your worries and fears don’t necessarily reflect your ability.
The problem really starts in childhood, at school. Research has found that maths teachers who are nervous about teaching the subject can pass on their anxiety to the pupils, and girls may be more likely to be influenced. According to the Programme for International Student Assessment (评估), around 31% of 15 and 16-year-olds across 34 countries got very nervous doing maths problems and nearly 60% said they worried maths classes would be difficult.
“ ★ .” Shulamit Kahn from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business says, “The key is to get people, especially women who love maths, to teach younger children.”
Writing for BBC Future, David Robson says, “It’s not clear why maths gives rise to so much fear compared to geography. But the fact that there’s a right or wrong answer might make you more worried about underperforming. And once you believe you’re not a ‘maths person’, you may avoid solving things that you probably could do.”
Psychologists (心理学家) have been trying to find out why mental calculation (心算) can get people in a sweat. That may come from many sources, but some suggest that expressing your fear clearly can loosen its hold on you, and encourage children to see a maths test as a challenge, not a threat (威胁). So, just think positively about maths and give it a second chance!

3.What can be a result if one thinks he is not a “maths person”
A.He might be doubtful about his ability. B.He may rise to challenges bravely.
C.He won’t see maths as a threat. D.He will study maths harder.
4.The underlined phrase “In a swear” in the last paragraph probably means “ ________”。
A.proud B.surprised C.frightened D.lonely
5.The best title for the passage would be “________”.
A.Numbers in Everyday Life B.Maths Education in Childhood
C.Should We Fear Maths D.Be a “Maths Person”
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.C 5.C

(2025·湖北武汉·模拟预测)In early November, 13-year-old Lin Jiawen, a student at Beijing Academy, bought a rabbit card holder made by the school’s Cultural Creativity Club. It cost just 7.9 yuan. “I love this design because it has our school’s logo,” said Lin.
The Cultural Creativity Club is one of the most popular clubs in the school. It was started after a school trip to Henan earlier this year. “The province’s rich culture inspired us to create products that mix tradition with modern style,” said Peng Shaohang, 14, one of the club’s founders.
The club has made two main products: the Tiger-head Shoes Pen and the Rabbit Card Holder.

In Nilka county in Xinjiang, about 6, 000 tons of rainbow trout (虹鳟鱼) will be produced this year. Rainbow trout belongs to the same family as salmon (鲑鱼) , which is a kind of well-known seafood. It tastes like salmon too.
Why do farmers there choose to grow fish The weather in some parts of Xinjiang is seldom hot, and the rivers are fed by meltwater (融水) from the Tianshan Mountains. Water deeper than 6 meters always stays at 10℃. As the meltwater is very clean and cold, it's a “comfortable” home for fish, Li Chunyu, a worker at a fish company in Xinjiang, told China Daily.
To make sure the river stays clean, the company uses machines to clean fish waste in the water. They also use net cages that are good for the environment. The nets are about 51 meters wide and lie 25 meters deep in the river.
Meanwhile, In Inner Mongolia, whiteleg shrimp (南美白对虾) grows well. Saline soil (盐碱土) covers a large part of the desert where few plants are able to grow. Farmers used to put water from the Yellow River onto the farmland to wash away the salt. This was a waste of salty water.

(24-25九年级下·湖北武汉·阶段练习)When you think of the sea, you may not think of Xinjiang or Inner Mongolia. But recently, the “seafood” produced in these places has become popular, especially after Japan put nuclear-contaminated water (核污染水) into the sea, reported China Daily.
In Nilka county in Xinjiang, about 6,000 tons of rainbow trout (虹鳟鱼) will be produced this year. Rainbow trout belongs to the same family as salmon (鲑鱼), which is a kind of well-known seafood. It tastes like salmon too.
Why do farmers there choose to grow fish The weather in some parts of Xinjiang is seldom hot, and the rivers are fed by meltwater (融水) from the Tianshan Mountains. Water deeper than 6 meters always stays at 10℃. As the meltwater is very clean and cold, it’s a “comfortable” home for fish, Li Chunyu, a worker at a fish company in Xinjiang, told China Daily.
Saline soil (盐碱士) covers a large part of the desert where few plants are able to grow. Farmers used to put water from the Yellow River onto the farmland to wash away the salt. This was a waste of salty water.
Scientists then decided to create “seawater” with the salty water by adding in some other components (成分). Whiteleg shrimps can live well in this kind of water. They taste no different from the same kind of shrimp that grows in the sea.
