(2025·广西贵港·一模)On January 28, 2025, a special show called Yang BOT surprised people on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the most popular TV show in China. The show put together traditional Chinese yangko dance and modern robot technology.
In the show, robots who are like humans in colorful clothes danced yangko, a happy folk dance from northern China that we often see during festivals. (2025·广西来宾·一模)“Suspended coffee” first started in the city of Naples, Italy. It is a tradition in some cafés in which someone pays in advance for an extra cup of coffee or two. Then the paid coffee can be kept for those unable to afford a hot drink. At cafés that keep the tradition, a customer-in-need can ask if there are any “suspended coffees” available, and if so, he or she can have a hot drink without having to pay for it.
The “suspended coffee” tradition became popular after the Second World War. Since then it has become popular in Europe. And later the idea reached Shanghai. And now, the idea has spread to other businesses in China.
In 2022, in the city of Ningbo, Zhejiang, a similar program named “Ready-for-Use Noodles” was started. In this program, some restaurants come together to provide free meals for those in need, not just noodles. The idea started small, with a few local restaurants in a single city. But as news spread, more and more businesses in more and more cities joined in. And then customers joined in to help, too, by paying for a meal or more in advance.
They wish to help those who might be in difficulty in life. Whether it’s a hungry traveller, a homeless person, or someone simply facing a hard time, he or she can come in and ask for a meal, without worrying about being unable to pay for it.
“We hope to bring warmth and strength to those who are in hard times,” said Mr Li, who has been in the program since the beginning.

Buddy (同伴) reading, which means reading together with others, will make this journey even more fantastic. During the journey, the buddies spend time doing a lot of reading activities. This not only adds to the pleasure of reading, but also deepens (加深) their understanding of the books.

The Rickshaw (人力车) Run is one of the world’s most special races. It lasts for 14 days and takes place in India. Each team is made up of one rickshaw and one to four drivers. The rickshaw is designed to carry light things over short journey, which makes the event such a challenge.

The first race took place in 2006 with 34 teams. Since then, the Rickshaw Run has become famous worldwide. A few years before the race, if participants don’t know how to drive a rickshaw, they will receive a crash course to make sure they can control it during the race. They can also use the pre-race time to decorate their rickshaws, show them off, and ask any last-minute questions.
“The adventure really starts when things go wrong,” said one participant. “We blew a hole in our rickshaw, but I saw the most beautiful town in India,” said another. And as the organizers say on their website, “There is no set route, no backup, no way of knowing if you are going to make it. Known as the world’s oldest book on military strategy (兵法), it was firstly written on bamboo strips. Sun Tzu lived in about 500 BC in the late Spring and Autumn Period. There is little information about Sun Tzu’s real life.
But according to one story, the king asked Sun Tzu to show his way of training the army. Two groups of the king’s women played the soldiers and two of the king’s favourites acted as commanders (指挥官). Sun Tzu gave them orders, but they thought it was just a game and couldn’t stop laughing. Sun Tzu said, “If the order is not clear, it’s my fault (错), but if the order is clear and soldiers don’t obey, it’s the commanders’ fault.” He then killed the two commanders, although the king wanted to protect them. Sun Tzu’s book became popular with leaders in Asia and later in the West. In 1782, a Frenchman named Amiot took the book to Europe. It is said that Napoleon used its ideas while fighting in Europe.

An eVTOL aircraft, also known as the “air taxi”, finished its first test flight in Guangdong Province on February 27, 2024. It got a lot of attention around the world.
The flight started from Shenzhen to Zhuhai. The distance (距离) between the two places is about 60 kilometers. The whole trip took just about 20 minutes, which makes it a better choice for passengers to travel between the two cities. Travelling by car, however, usually takes about two to three hours.
The eVTOL aircraft looks like a small plane. But unlike a plane, it doesn’t need a long runway to take off from the ground. Instead, it can go straight up and down. This new aircraft is powered by electricity. It can work for 250 kilometers on a single charge (充电量) and can also carry up to five people at a speed of up to 200 kilometers per hour.
The eVTOL aircraft was developed by a high-tech company. The company is asking for a permit (许可证) for the market. If everything goes well, it is hoped that the aircraft will start carrying passengers in 2026.
Besides the eVTOL aircraft, Guangzhou is making efforts to encourage other low-altitude flight (低空飞行). They will be used in many areas, such as tourism, delivery (递送), and farming in the future.

(2025·广西·模拟预测)Reading a good book is a wonderful journey because the reader can live in someone else’s world for a while. Reading together with others, known as buddy (同伴) reading, will make this journey even more fantastic. During the journey, the buddies spend time doing a lot of reading activities. This not only adds to the pleasure of reading, but also deepens their understanding of the books.
Although it is all right to have students join in buddy reading with same-aged schoolmates, schools usually pair up older students with younger ones. In 2021, Green School started such a program and has achieved a great success.
Both younger and older readers in this school have learned a lot from this two-year program. For example, when they listened to each other, they learned to be kind and patient. This experience also provided them with a chance to practise lifelong skills such as exercising leadership or communicating with others. A student called Jason said that reading to a younger buddy was really helpful. He became more confident, as he knew he was a role model for someone.
The school also became a closer community. The reading buddies felt more connected as they often met each other. The students were always excited when they saw their buddies pass by in the hallway.

(24-25九年级下·广西南宁·开学考试)You must see something like this in science novels: people drive flying cars for daily travel. However, you’ll probably be able to take one in the near future.
