In Zhenhu, a small, scenic town in Suzhou, of its nearly 20, 000 residents, more than 40percent are engaged in the embroidery (刺绣) business. Zhou Xiaojing is one of them. With her nimble needle and threads (线), the young embroiderer has created many fascinating pieces of art.
But mastering Suzhou embroidery is no easy task. It takes an ambitious embroiderer three to five years in general to learn the basics, and at least another 10 years to acquire more advanced techniques. “If you don’t love this craft, it’s hard to stick around, ” Zhou said. Many of her childhood friends abandoned this family practice, considering the low income, intense training, and other factors.
To make her embroidery more lifelike, she studied the real world for inspiration. “To embroider a water town, I visited an ancient town in person; to do a goldfish, I bought a goldfish and studied its appearance and how it moved through the water.”
Zhou’s embroidered goldfish has become a hit online. The two fish look alive, as if truly swimming in water. The most striking part is their tails, which twinkle with brilliant colours. To convey the goldfish’s elegant movements, she needed to use extremely fine silk threads. She split (分开) a single silk thread into 128 pieces, using just one of them in her embroidery.
“The divided threads are incredibly light and thin. If you take a deep breath while embroidering, they might simply disappear, ” she said, “Also, you have to control your strength. Even a slight pressure imbalance can break the thread. That’s the hardest. ”
She hopes her goldfish work will inspire more people to learn about this art and appreciate it, and bring more attention to traditional handicrafts.

C.She must hold her breath for a long time. D.How to get the right thread, thin and light.

Being in nature has a profound effect on how you experience time. Do you ever get that feeling that there aren’t enough hours in the day That time is somehow racing away from you, and it is impossible to fit everything in. But then, you step outside into the countryside and suddenly everything seems slower, more relaxed, like time has somehow changed.
Recent research showed nature can regulate our sense of time. For many of us, the combined demands of work, home and family mean that we are always feeling like we don’t have enough time. Time poverty has also been exacerbated by digital technologies, which causes our off-duty time to be disturbed (搅乱).
The research suggests that the cure for our lack of time may lie in the natural world. Psychologist Richardo Correia, at the University of Turku in Finland, found that being in nature may change how we experience time and, perhaps, even give us the sense of time abundance. Correia examined research which compared people’s experiences of time when they performed different types of tasks in urban (城市的) and natural environments. These studies showed that people report a sense of extended time when they were in nature compared to when they were in an urban environment. For example, people are more likely to perceive (感知) a walk in the countryside as longer than a walk of the same length in the city. Similarly, people report perceiving time as passing more slowly while performing tasks in natural green environments than in urban environments
Nature seems to slow and expand our sense of time. It’s not just our sense of time in the moment which appears to be changed by the natural world, it’s also our sense of the past and future. Previous research shows that spending time in nature helps to shift our focus from the immediate moment towards our future needs. So rather than focusing on the stress of the demands on our time, nature helps us to see the bigger picture. And exposure to nature helps individuals becomes more self-controlled, enabling us to delay instant satisfaction in favour of long-term rewards.
8.What does the underlined word “exacerbated” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Worsened. B.Recognized. C.Improved. D.Removed.
9.What does Richardo Correia’s research find
A.People perform tasks faster in natural environments.
B.The natural world has the power to heal time disorder.
C.People may feel like time is slowing down in the countryside.
D.Walking in the countryside takes more time than walking in the city.
10.What effects does nature exposure have on individuals’ focus
A.It helps people focus more on the immediate moment.
B.It shifts attention from immediate tasks to future needs.
C.It increases concentration on the stress of time demands.
D.It prevents people from sensing the past and the future.
11.What is the author’s attitude toward the role of nature in changing our sense of time
A.Approving. B.Doubtful. C.Unclear. D.Negative.

In conclusion, mental work can be just as exhausting as physical work, and it can have physical, cognitive, and emotional effects on the body. It is important to recognize the signs of mental exhaustion and take proactive steps to prevent burnout. 20
