Born in 1993, Hao has become one of China’s most popular female (女性的) dancers. Hao started learning dancing at the age of 7. She entered college in 2011 and became a professional dancer after leaving school.
In 2017, Hao played the leading role in the dance show Mulan. It was a great challenge for her, even though she had much performance experience. She cried every night when returning to the hotel during rehearsals (彩排). “At that time, I thought to myself that I would never dance again after playing the role of Hua Mulan,” she said.
Luckily, Hao didn’t give up. She studied everything about Hua Mulan very carefully. She even found teachers and learnt Chinese kung fu from them. In order to perform the action scenes well, Hao and her partners worked hard to practice the fighting moves.

Whenever I travel to Western countries, I meet the same problem, which is to slurp (出声地吃) or not to slurp when I eat with Westerners.
When you travel abroad, it is good to respect and follow certain table manners. For example, you should not talk with your mouth full. It will make people feel quite uncomfortable in most countries.
In fact, every culture has their own rules at the dining table. For example, eating with your left hand isn’t allowed in India. In Chinese culture, you’re not supposed to stick chopsticks into the food.
Having stayed in France for several weeks, I was very careful about my table manners. However, I got back to my own ways slowly as time went by. I made myself a bowl of noodles and ate it in the traditional Chinese way, which meant I slurped through it till my bowl was totally empty.
I agree that eating loudly is without doubt the most unwelcome dining behavior, no matter how delicious the food is. But I think it is OK to slurp soup and noodles. To most Chinese people it’s a good expression of enjoying well-cooked food. Some traditions might appear strange. They are special and have their own values. There is totally no need to feel embarrassed (尴尬的) about your cultural behavior, as long as it is harmless (无害的) and acceptable.
( )8. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Eating with the left hand. B. Talking with the mouth full.
C. Following certain table manners. D. Sticking chopsticks into the food.
( )9. What’s the writer’s opinion about slurping according to Paragraphs 4 and 5
A. Interesting. B. Moving.
C. Acceptable. D. Popular.
( )10. What’s the best title for this passage
A. The Influence of Chinese Food
B. A Special Skill of Eating Noodles
C. The Writer’s Opinion of Going Abroad
D. The Respect of Different Traditions
( )11. Which part of a magazine is the passage probably taken from
A. History. B. Culture. C. Business. D. Science.
D
A foreign girl named Kris posted a sad photo online. It looked like her boyfriend made her cry. Some nice Chinese people tried to cheer her up. They asked her to find someone better. Some made funny Chinglish to make her feel happy, such as “you swan (天鹅), he frog (青蛙)”.
This became a hit with foreigners. Many found it cool, shared it a lot online and made funny pictures with it.
“I need Chinese netizens (网民) in my life who call the people that have hurt me frogs,” said a foreign Internet user, showing her love for the expression. Some of them wanted to know why Chinese people used “swan” and “frog” to describe this couple. After looking into it, they learned that it came from the famous old Chinese story of the beautiful swan and the ugly toad (癞蛤蟆), and got interested in the Chinese stories behind Chinglish.
In the past, people often corrected those who spoke Chinglish because it was full of grammar mistakes. However, with globalization (全球化), people from different countries can now share their ideas more often. Different styles of speaking English are becoming common and even accepted. English with local features can also be popular. For example, the well-known “add oil” has now appeared in the Oxford dictionary and people use it widely. The phrase shows Chinese culture.
“Once I understood the full meaning, it became much funnier,” said Cody, a young man from New Zealand, when asked about “you swan, he frog”. “It’s great that more Chinese culture is being shared with the rest of the world,” he told China Daily.
( )12. Why does the writer mention Kris in Paragraph 1

Born after 1995, the young man said he began the startup because it would not take up his time. “People go to flower shops at any time,” he said, “so I cannot focus on reading when I have to serve customers.” So Wang opened the self-service flower shop after doing market research.
“Most young customers like shopping in a free environment,” he explained, adding that customers could have their questions answered about categories and names of flowers through mobile apps.
Even though there is no shopkeeper, the operation has attracted many young customers and proved to be a success, at least for now.

First, we have some rules in our daily life. At school, we have to wear school uniforms every day. And we are not allowed to smoke. We are supposed to keep quiet in class. At home, it is our job to keep our room tidy. Besides, we should use the Internet wisely.
Second, as for table manners, we can’t make too much noise while eating. It is also impolite to use the chopsticks to point at others.
Third, as we all know, tea culture has a long history in China. And tea was discovered by Shen Nong. Then Lu Yu wrote The Classic of Tea and introduced tea. Nowadays, tea culture is getting popular around the world.
I hope the information will be helpful to you and look forward to seeing you soon.
