Don’t you think that we have lost a lot We have lost most of the natural resources, and now we are going to lose animals!
The natural competition happens when species (物种) compete for food and living places. An example of an animal species affected by this is the dinosaur.
We have caused animals to be in danger too. The pollution that we create destroys many animals’ living places like the sea turtle. Overhunting is also a huge threat. When people overhunt, they catch too many of an animal species, so either not many animals are left, or no animals are left at all. An example of some overhunted animals is the Bali tiger. Cutting down trees is also very dangerous for animals. It leaves them with no place to live, such as many species in the Amazon Rainforest.
Many organizations such as WWF (World Wildlife Fund) are doing something to protect animals and the environment. They try to protect the living places of many endangered animals. They do studies on the species and they educate people. Zoos also help. They let many endangered species live in a healthy and safe environment. Sometimes zoos might even let an endangered animal go back into the wild to try to raise population numbers again.
Not only the big organizations but also you can help. You can give away money or you can volunteer, or you can do the simplest thing of all—CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT!

Living in Shanghai with a bamboo bike, you can enjoy so much more than in a car — that’s the lifestyle David Wang, an American, likes to share. He likes making his eco-friendly (环保的) bicycles.
Bamboo is an eco-friendly material (材料). “There are thousands of kinds of bamboo in China,” Wang said, “It grows very fast and is a very good material for bike frames (构架).” His idea for bamboo bikes started to take shape in Beijing. There, Wang found more and more people chose to drive cars rather than ride bikes. Wang said, “I was thinking about how we could make bikes fun and cool again. Using an eco-friendly material is one way. The other way is teaching young people to make their own bikes because when you make something by yourself, it feels quite different.”
Later, he founded a bamboo bike club named BBB (Bamboo Bicycles Beijing & Beyond) in Beijing and ran it for seven years. It was popular with those who wanted to make their own bamboo bike and explore the world on one they had made.
After his second daughter was born, he moved to Shanghai. “I wanted to have a different and better environment for my daughters,” Wang said, “Shanghai is a great city for families, especially for little kids.”
“I founded my studio (工作室) in Shanghai several months ago,” Wang said, “I just got my business license (执照) and a week ago, I found some factories to help me produce bikes.” Wang named his studio “Brook & Breeze” after his daughters. “We gave them those names largely because we wanted them to be part of nature. It also gives meaning to what I do—to let people use a natural thing and explore nature.”

第三部分 书面表达(共两节,满分30 分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5 小题;每小题2 分,满分10 分)
阅读下面短文,完成短文后的问题。
Some scientists were studying sea turtles (海龟) in Costa Rica in Central America. Suddenly they found one turtle had something sticking out of its nose. It could not breathe. At first, the scientists thought it was a worm (寄生虫). But when they pulled the object out, it was a plastic (塑料) straw.
The waste created by plastic straws is unbelievable. In the United States alone, 500 million straws are thrown away every day. That’s enough straws to circle the Earth twice, or fill 125 school buses.
Plastic straws aren’t the biggest polluter of our waterways, but they can be some of the most dangerous to sea animals. Their size makes them easy for fish or birds to eat. About 71% of the seabirds and 30% of the turtles are found with plastic in their stomachs. When these animals eat the plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate (死亡率).
Milo Cress is a boy from Vermont, America, who wanted to reduce (减少) and possibly end the use of plastic straws in restaurants. In 2011, at the age of 9, he set up the Be Straw Free project, which focused on building awareness (意识) about plastic waste and its effect on the environment.
“I noticed that whenever I ordered a drink at a restaurant, it would usually come with a straw in it, and I don’t usually need a straw,” Milo said. He started asking the local restaurant owners to straw stop providing the customers with a straw unless he or she asked for one. Many of them agreed and joined the movement. By doing that, the restaurants reported a reduction in the number of straws they used between 50% and 80%.
Drinking with a straw is fun. But think twice. For anyone who really likes to use a straw, there are several ways to go. The best one is trying a reusable one, which can be washed along with dishes. Bamboo, metal and glass can be used to make reusable straws. Another one is to use paper straws, which are recyclable (可回收利用的) and can be found in attractive colors and patterns. With choices available, there’s no reason to add to the plastic straw waste problem.
41. What was sticking out of the turtle’s nose

42. According to Paragraph 2, how many straws can circle the Earth once

第二节
范文:
Save the Earth: Let’s Do Our Part!
The earth is the only home for everyone on it. It’s crying for our help now. It’s everyone’s duty to protect the environment. As middle school students, we have the power to make a difference and help save the earth!
To protect the earth, we can start by saving water, planting more trees, and reducing pollution. We can also save animals and recycle the waste whenever possible. Besides, choosing to ride a bike instead of taking a car to help stop the pollution is also what we can do.
By doing our part, we can make a positive impact on the environment and create a better future for ourselves.
