【答案】Dear Tom,
I’m glad to receive your letter asking me about our traditional delicacies in my hometown. Now let me introduce dumplings to you.
Dumplings are an essential food during festivals and family gatherings. They have various fillings like pork, beef, vegetables and seafood. The wrappers are thin and chewy. What I like most about them is that they symbolize reunion and happiness. Every time I eat dumplings with my family, I feel a strong sense of warmth and love.
I sincerely invite you to come to China and taste the delicious dumplings yourself. I’m sure you will love them.
Looking forward to seeing you.
Best wishes,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
Paragraph 1: I walk up to the counter and ask for a tiny cup of ice cream. The woman behind the counter did the usual customer service“How’s your day ”I talked about how I had to go home because I wasn’t well enough to work and that I would end up missing shark week because of it. I almost broke up crying. Hearing my story , she looked sad and very kindly comforted me. Soon I finished my ice cream, stood up and reached my hand to my pocket.
Paragraph 2: Before I could even pull out my wallet, the woman held up her hand. Gladly she told me that it was on her. Turning to the fridge, she brought a bigger ice cream and told me to feel better with it. I did thank her about a million times before going to my bus. She made my horrible day just a little bit better. What even surprised me was that a few days later, when I returned to my work, my co-worker showed me the video she recorded. What a pleasant gift she gave me! I hugged her and tears came down my eyes.

We’re not looking for special technical skills—just the imagination to take a good picture. Last year, the topic for our competition was wildlife and we received many excellent photos. This year, we’d like your photos to be on the subject of the sea. This is the only requirement. It doesn’t matter whether your photo is in color or black and white. The size of the photos was limited to 17cm long and 12cm wide last year, but there’s no limit on that this year. A team of professional photographers will judge the photos and they’ll choose the four that they think show the most promise. The winner will receive a camera, while the second prize will be free photography lessons. Those in third and fourth place will receive a photography book. If you’re interested, we’d like you to post your photos to us here at Star Radio, 24 Woodstock Square, London. Your photos need to reach us by the 10th of August so you have a few weeks before the closing date. The results of the competition will be announced on this program on the 15th. There will be a chance to see all the photographs into the competition at an exhibition at the museum. This will start on the 20th of August and stay open until 27th.高一英语试题

My nanny took care of me from the time I was born until I was 15.She lived with my family in our apartment in Hong Kong. My parents had government jobs and worked long hours,so they needed someone to change my diapers, pick me up from school and steam me fish,Chinese style.
Nanny Zeny was from the Philippines. She was the same age and height —five feet—as my mother but her skin was more tanned and she had a distinct mole(痣)on her lower lip.The only time she took off was on Sundays, when she would put on makeup, spritz some perfume(香水)and head to church with the other Filipino nannies who were her friends.
In the hours before my parents came home from work,Nanny Zeny would take the chopping boards to the dining table and listen to me complain about classmates, friends and homework. As she worked her way through the choy sum and gai lan(vegetables she knew I liked),she would give advice in the form of quotes from the Bible.
It was hard for me to view her as anything but a second mother. From time to time,my real mother talked to Nanny Zeny about not completing certain chores properly, and my mother would wonder why I always defended her.
Even after leaving Hong Kong in 2015 to attend high school in the United States, and eventually university in Canada,I still found myself thinking about Nanny Zeny, who also left Hong Kong and went back to the Philippines.I knew I was on her mind, too—she continued sending me birthday wishes on Facebook, asking how my parents were doing and forwarding me inspiring Biblical quotes. In December 2019,I visited her house in the Philippines and was surprised to see that her living room was plastered with (贴满)relics from my childhood.
My parents regularly sent Nanny Zeny a small sum of money. For years I had thought it was simply a way to thank her for all those hours she spent cooking and cleaning. But as I grew older,I began to understand why my parents felt a deep sense of gratitude for her influence on my emotional and moral development.

With its summit standing at an incredible 29,032 feet,Mount Everest is the world's highest mountain above sea level. Now it's getting even taller, thanks to the growth caused by a nearby river, according to a new study.
Mount Everest sits on the border of Nepal and Tibet in the Himalayan mountain range. The huge landmark is already about 800 feet taller than the other peaks in the region and continues to grow every year by about 0.079 inches. That's about the width of a spaghetti noodle, according to The New York Times. It might not seem like much, but it adds up over time.
A team of scientists set out to understand how Everest got so tall in the first place and what causes its ongoing growth.By means of computer modeling, they studied how the waterways in the region had changed in the past. They found that the Arun River, which runs along the Himalayas in Everest's shadow, played an especially important role in Everest's development.
About 89,000 years ago,the team found,a massive river system called the Kosi merged(合并)with the Arun and formed one large waterway. The massive, powerful river gradually wore away billions of tons of rock and soil, creating a deep channel.
Over time,as the erosion(侵蚀)continued and the material that makes up the land was carried away, Earth's crust(地壳)became lighter in that area. The lighter crust floated more easily on top of Earth's mantle(地慢),allowing the mantle to push the crust upward and causing Everest to grow. The Arun River has made Everest between 49 and 164 feet taller than it would otherwise be,the scientists said.
Adam Smith, one of the study's authors, told BBC News,"It's a bit like throwing a load of cargo off a ship. The ship becomes lighter and so floats a little higher.Similarly, when the crust becomes lighter,it can float a little higher."Another study author Jin-Gen Dai said,“Although mountains may appear to stand still from the angle of a human lifetime, they are in fact constantly in motion ."
28.What is the direct cause of the ongoing growth of Mount Everest according to the study
A.The formation of a large waterway. B.The creation of a deep channel.
C.The continuous erosion of the land. D.The upward movement of the crust.
29.How did the scientists carry out the study on the historical change of the waterways in the region
A.By setting up a database . B.By referring to former studies.
C.By using computer modeling. D.By cooperating with experts.
30.Which of the following statements is true
A.The original height of Mount Everest stood at a surprising 29,032 feet.
B.Compared to other mountains,Mount Everest is around 800 feet taller.
C.It's estimated that Mount Everest will grow annually by about 0.079 feet.
D.The merger of the Kosi and the Arun dates back to around 89,000 years ago.
31.What is the meaning of the underlined word in the last paragraph
A.Danger. B.Progress. C.Existence. D.Operation.
D
Musk, Hawking, Gates—the tech giants have redoubled their warnings about how we could destroy ourselves with technology. But they’re not talking about deliberately pushing buttons to trigger disaster. They mean accidentally killing ourselves with something that we invent for our benefit.
It’s a little embarrassing to have to admit that accidental deaths are increasing in a world that our ancestors made safer for hundreds of years. Our grandparents saw the invention of the automobile, the bulldozer (推土机) and so on, and they made them all safer. However, nowadays, we put a smartphone on every hand, and now more than 1000 distraction-related crashes happen on our roads every day. Kids and pets die of heatstroke (中暑) inside cars—we are on track to set a new record for hot car deaths in 2021. We may not have to worry about AI, but our innovations are quietly outpacing our ability.
We place blind trust in complex systems that reveal little about how they work. It seems that we have superhuman abilities, and consumers seem willing to play along. They drive at a speed of 80 mph with a phone and a cup of coffee, and they are proud of their multitasks. Sure, other people on phones are dangerous, but you can smoothly switch your attention and notice when any emergency occurs, right
When we misjudged a situation in the past, we got immediate feedback. But technology can place the consequences of our missteps at a distance. Delayed reactions, complex chain reactions—these are all part of how technology works. But having adapted to a world of new inventions, we are crazy about driverless cars, seldom stopping to consider what could go wrong later down the road. Worse still, technology is even hacking our feedback system. We get excited when we check our phone while driving. Edith Harbaugh, whose company, Launch Darkly, specializes in the controlled release of new technology into the wild, pointed out that we’re creating a dangerously unbalanced system of actions and rewards: “We are not given ice creams every time we do something safe.”
So it is too late to worry about threatening technology, which is upon us. The modern world is breaking everything we know about staying safe. If we have any hope of staying alive with the rise of the machines, we are going to need to learn to survive the things we have today.
32. Why is the warning of tech giants mentioned in Paragraph 1
A. To give a definition. B. To highlight their wisdom.
C. To offer background information. D. To introduce the topic.
33. Which is not the reason why technology is threatening
A. We trust complex systems blindly.
B. We create too many inventions.
C. Our ability cannot keep pace with the innovations.
D. Technology can’t give us feedback immediately.
34. If the passage continues, what may be talked about
A. The rise of the machines. B. The destruction of the world.
C. The measures to deal with the problem. D. The worries about threatening technology.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Every Coin Has Two Sides B. Technology is Benefiting us
C. Technology is Killing us D. How Should We Deal with Technology

Overcome Fear of Failure
Many of us may accept in theory that failure is a necessary component of all learning and growth. 36 Very few of us know how to fail well. Intellectually, we may know that we need a growth mindset in order to develop, and yet failure remains an experience that is often associated with shame and embarrassment. How, then, can we overcome our fear of failure so that we can truly benefit from what failing has to teach us
37 Reminding yourself that there is no growth without failure — no learning, no development, no new experiences — can help you see your failure in a new light. Cultivate (培养) a growth mindset, an openness to learning from failure in the service of overall development.
Second, recall gritty successful people who failed a hundred, or maybe even a thousand times, before they got somewhere with their attempts. 38 He is famous for having said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
Third, watch how a little child learns to walk. They don’t need to read a set of instructions on how to walk upright. 39 They stand up, stumble (蹒跚而行), fall, stand up, stumble, fall, and stand up again, over and over again, until they learn to stand, then to walk, and then how to run.
Finally, simply start seeing your failures as teachers. Instead of being too hard on yourself and feeling sorry for yourself when you fail, ask yourself: What can I learn from this experience 40 What is the lesson here And remember: While it is hard to fail, it is much worse never to have tried to succeed.
A. What can I do better next time
B. What exactly causes my fear of failure
C. First, be aware that failure is usually painful.
D. Take the great inventor Thomas Edison for example.
E. Instead, they learn by doing and, especially, by failing.
F. First, have a positive attitude.
G. However, in practice, we often struggle greatly with failing.
