When Ms. Lin announced the 800-meter run in PE class, my heart sank. Born with weak vision, I’d always avoided sports that required sharp eyesight. “Just try,” my best friend Xiaoya whispered, noticing my panic.
On the first practice day, I ran unsteadily and collided with others. Embarrassed, I hid in the locker room until Xiaoya found me. “Let’s train differently,” she suggested. That afternoon, she tied a bell to her shoe and ran ahead of me. “Follow the sound!” The jingling guided me like a compass. Gradually, I learned to synchronize my steps with the rhythm.
Race day arrived. Midway through the final lap, my glasses slipped off. Blurred(模糊的) shapes swam around me until—cling, cling—a familiar bell echoed. Xiaoya, already finished, was running along the track’s edge vary fast shaking her shoe wildly. Focusing on that sound, I pushed forward and crossed the line—third place. The crowd cheered not for my ranking, but for the girl who turned weakness into creativity.
Now, when I coach younger students with disabilities, I repeat Xiaoya’s words: “Limits live only in our minds.”

A. Lack of physical strength.
B. Social anxiety.
C. Weak body.

A. To celebrate her success.
B. To attract the others’ attention.
C. To cheer the author up.
D. To direct the author with the sound.

A. Friendship requires helping each other.
B. Competition builds character.
C. A novel idea overcomes physical limits.

C
In the field of artificial intelligence, a new breakthrough player, DeepSeek, has recently gained significant attention on social media. It is an AI assistant developed by a Chinese company called DeepSeek.
Earlier in January 2025, DeepSeek released its AI model, which competes with leading models like OpenAI's ChatGPT o1. What sets DeepSeek apart is its ability to develop high-performing AI models at a significantly lower cost. It's built to assist with various tasks, from answering questions to generating content. However, unlike the American AI giants, which usually offer free versions but charge fees for access to higher-performing models and more responses, DeepSeek is entirely free to use.
DeepSeek operates as a conversational AI, meaning it can understand and respond to natural language inputs. It offers two large language models: DeepSeek-V3 and DeepThink (R1). They can be accessed via web pages or apps. DeepSeek-V3 works like the standard ChatGPT model, providing fast responses, generating text, rewriting emails and summarizing documents. DeepThink (R1) provides an alternative to OpenAI's ChatGPT o1 model, which requires a subscription, but both DeepSeek models are free to use. What sets the DeepThink (R1) model apart from other AI tools is that it lays out the complete thought process and indicates the time it takes to generate the answer before providing a detailed reply.
AI models require large amounts of data to be trained effectively, sometimes including sensitive personal information. The use of personal data carries a risk of data leaks or misuse. DeepSeek's privacy policy allows it to collect user data, such as text inputs, chat history, and device details, for training purposes. This has raised concerns about the potential misuse of personal information.
DeepThink (R1) is open-source (源代码开放的), allowing researchers and developers worldwide to access and improve the model. This challenges the market position of Western tech giants and encourages more innovation and collaboration in the AI field. Smaller companies and individual developers can now use advanced AI technology without the high costs of proprietary (专有的) models. The rise of DeepThink (R1) has forced well-established AI companies to reconsider their strategies. If they don't innovate quickly, they risk becoming outdated in the changing market.
How does DeepSeek differ from American AI giants in terms of cost
A. It charges for high - performing models.
B.It offers free access to all its models.
C.It has a more complex fee-charging system.
D.It provides free basic versions.
29. What is the unique feature of DeepThink (R1) compared to other AI tools
A.It is open - source for worldwide use.
B. It can generate content quickly.
C. It can be accessed via both web pages and apps.
D. It shows the thought process and answer - generation time.
30. What concern has been raised about DeepSeek according to the passage
A.Its models may not be as accurate as others.
B.It might disclose user’s privacy.
C.It is too expensive for small companies.
D.Its open - source nature may cause security issues.
31.What impact has DeepThink (R1) had on the AI market
A. It has forced established AI companies to combine.
B. It has made Western tech giants dominate the market more.
C. It has motivated the creation and cooperation in the AI field.
D.It has increased the cost of using advanced AI technology.
D
When Moses Kimani and his two friends formed the band Cyplez, little did they imagine it would cause a great surprise in the Mathare slums(贫民窟). "Hold on, don't give up. Keep your head up." The words in the song have always inspired residents there.
Music has become a source of comfort for Kimani. The 26-year-old singer was born and raised in the large slum at a time when the dreams of so many young people died under severe living conditions. Nevertheless, Kimani and his partners found inspiration in music.
Their bond with art grew stronger, leading to the formation of a band that is causing waves in one of Nairobi's oldest informal settlements. "When we put on a concert in Sanaa Center, thousands of people flocked to watch our performance," said Kimani. So far, Cyplez has released four visual and eight audio music works, but it is working on an EP that has seven songs and is planned to launch toward the end of 2021.
Mike Njoroge, the manager of the band, says the musical journey has been exciting for the last eight years. However, limited capital has derailed the band's plans to record quality songs or stage big concerts. "Other challenges we are facing include connecting with established artists for cooperation that can increase our popularity. We are unable to stage live performances because of the pandemic," says Njoroge.
Despite being situated near the polluted water, the Sanaa Center, with its graffiti-covered(布满涂鸦的) iron sheet walls, provides an ideal background to shoot a music video. In the slums, music brings more than just notes and tunes. It is the moonlight in the depressing night of life. Kimani said, "There are so many children growing up and looking at us. When we give up, we kill their dreams. So we keep pushing."
32.What can be inferred about the band’s influence in Mathare slums
A. They have achieved international fame through social media.
B. Their music primarily targets wealthy audiences outside the slums.
C. They serve as role models for local youth facing adversity.
D. Their success has eliminated poverty in the community.
33.The word “derailed” in Paragraph 4 most likely means ______.
A. supported B. disrupted C. misguided D. funded
34. The metaphor "moonlight in the depressing night of life" (Paragraph 5) emphasizes that music ______.
A. provides temporary entertainment for slum residents.
B. represents the influence of Western culture.
C. offers hope and guidance in harsh conditions.
D. reflects the environmental pollution issues.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Never Give up Your Dreams.
B.A Band Brings Hope in Slums with Music.
C.Band Cyplez Created a New Musical Style.
D.Success Depends Little on Living Conditions but More Music.

If you miss one of the old friends you’ve lost touch with and think about reaching out to them, you may worry about whether it’ll be just like old times, or uncomfortable and awkward. Here are some ways to help you avoid any awkwardness while reconnecting with an old friend.
Reach out through social media. Connect with them through social media, text message or other means if you’re too nervous to make a phone call or to begin a meet up. Follow up on one of their most recent posts. 36
Show some love. If you’re really happy to connect with your old friend, make it a point to communicate that to them. 37 Sincere warmth can help lessen some of the awkwardness that may build up in a relationship.
38 Start conversation by bringing up a fun time you shared. It will transport you both back to that moment when you were close and help smooth over the “What are you up to now ” conversations that sound too rigid (死板).
Display your interest. As you chat with your friend, try to pay attention and ask follow-up questions. 39 Empathizing (共鸣) with them can help you connect with them and get to know who they are today.
Move past conflicts. Don’t talk a lot about your conflicts or the reasons why your friendship became less close. If it happens to come up naturally down the line, then feel free to address any possible hurt feelings. 40 In the beginning, just focus on what you had in common and the good times you shared together.
A. Bring back a happy memory.
B. Make detailed plans for the future.
C. But better avoid taking the risk too soon.
D. Update your friend on everything going on in your life.
E. This shows you’re interested in what they’re sharing with you.
F. Be warm with them and let them know how much it means to you.
G. Then starting conversation about what they’re up to will be a natural thing.

The twins, Tom and Lily, stood nervously at Santorini Airport in Greece. Their connecting flight had been delayed by a sudden storm, leaving them stranded for six hours. Now their luggage was lost - two bright orange suitcases containing everything from hiking boots to formal dinner costume for Lily's 16th birthday celebration.
"This is a disaster," Tom groaned, wiping sweat from his forehead. The Mediterranean sun shined through the airport windows, making his T-shirt stick to his back. "No clothes, no washing tool...How can we survive three days here "
Lily opened her journal, uncovering a watercolor picture of whitewashed buildings with blue round roofs. "Remember how we babysat for months to afford this trip Real adventures aren't about perfect plans." She adjusted her camera belt determinedly. "Let's document everything. Maybe traveling light is a blessing."
The apologetic staff offered compensation(补偿), but Tom barely glanced at them. As the rusty shuttle bus climbed toward Oia village, Lily gasped at cliffside windmills(风车) outlined against the sunset, while Tom sat in his seat holding an empty luggage tag.

读后续写
Paragraph 1:
When they arrived at the small hotel, the kind owner gave them clean clothes and towels. "Come to the market tomorrow," she suggested. The next morning, Tom and Lily joined locals buying fresh fruits. A fruit seller let Tom try cutting melons, while Lily helped an old lady arrange flowers. Lily took photos of Tom's funny faces as juice dripped down his chin. By afternoon, their backpacks were filled with cookies from friendly sellers and seashells from the beach. Tom forgot about the lost luggage when playing soccer with village kids.
Paragraph 2:
On their last day, the hotel owner gave them a photo album with all their pictures. "Real treasures are here," she pointed at their laughing faces in the photos. At the airport, Tom threw the empty luggage tag into a trash bin. "Maybe we don't need so many things," he said, looking at their full backpacks. Lily hugged her camera happily. The blue-and-white buildings outside the window seemed to wave goodbye, reminding them that the best memories don't come from suitcases.
