It was my first year teaching in a special needs classroom and I wasn’t sure what to expect at our school sports meet. My students faced a lot of challenges, from mild learning disabilities (轻度学习障碍) to cerebral palsy (脑瘫).
Mark was one of the worst. He had to get around in a wheelchair. But he was always positive and greeted everyone with a huge smile.
His classmates loved him, especially Mike, Andy and Lucas—three boys who were good at sports. I knew Mark wanted to be like them. When track and field (田径运动) day came, Mike, Andy and Lucas placed well, giving the crowd something to cheer about. Mark sat on the sidelines (边线), cheering them on.
