Ⅰ. 连词 unless; as soon as; so …that 的用法 Unless 的用法
1. unless 的用法:
意为“除非;如果不”, 含有否定意义。unless 引导的条件状语从句,unless 与 if 用法相似,遵循“主将从现”原则, 相当于 if…not 。若主句是一般将来时、祈使句或谓语中含有情态动词时,从句常用一般现在时表将来。
如:Unless you put on your raincoat, you’ll get wet. = If you don’t put on your raincoat, you’ll get wet. unless 引导的条件状语从句中的谓语动词常用一般现在时代替一般将来时,主要用于下列情况。
(1) 主句为肯定句:You will miss the bus unless you hurry up.你要不快点就会错过车。
(2) 主句为否定句:I will not go unless I hear from him.如果我不收到他的来信我不会走。
2. As soon as 的用法:
时态遵循“主将从现;主过从过”的原则。
(1) 表示主句动作紧接着从句动作发生。主句为一般将来时,从句用一般现在时表示将来: I will write you as soon as I get there. 我一到那里就给你写信。
As soon as he comes, I’ll tell him the news.他一来,我就告诉他这个消息。
(2) 指紧接着发生的两个短动作,主句和从句都用一般过去时。主句为一般过去时,从句也用一般过去式 He took out his English book as soon as he sat down.他一坐下就拿出英语书。
2. so …that … 意为“如此… 以至于…” ,so 是副词, 后跟形容词或副词原级,that 后接结果状语从句。 如:He ran so fast that I couldn’t catch up with him.
①当 that 引导的结果状语从句是肯定句时,so …that …可与 be …enough to do sth. 进行同义转换;
如:The boy is so clever that he can answer the question easily. = The boy is clever enough to answer the question easily.
②当 that 引导的结果状语从句为否定句时,so …that …可与 too …to …或 be not …enough to do sth. 进行同义转换: He is so young that he can’t look after himself.
= He is too young to look after himself.
=He is not old enough to look after himself. 练一练:她太小了, 以至于不能去上学。
She is young she can’t go to school. She is young go to school.
