What Is a Chinese Knot
A Chinese knot is a knot that is tied and woven (编织) from a single length of rope to be different shapes. Most knots have two cords (粗线) entering the knot from the top and two leaving from the bottom. Each kind of knot is named after its shape or the symbolic meaning that it carries.
Knot artists can use different colors, but they prefer deep red ones. The color red means good luck in China.

At first, people may have made them to record information before people started to write. One hundred thousand year old tools have been discovered that were probably used to tie and untie knots.

“When side by side two rabbits go, who can tell the buck (雄兔) from the doe (雌兔) ” China’s Yang Jingru and Li Jinzi “played the buck and the doe” to win China’s first gold and silver medals in the women’s 1500m short track speed skating event of the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 on Jan 20.
They used the classic “rabbit strategy (策略)”. This strategy usually needs teamwork of two skaters. One skater sprints (冲刺) from the start, while the other stays behind.
This is different from the usual 1500m speed skating strategy of keeping an average pace and then picking up speed in the last few laps (圈). Using the “rabbit strategy”, after the first turn, Yang suddenly skated at full speed. She then quickly lapped (领先一圈) the other skaters and then stayed at the back of the pack.
Working with Yang, Li changed between the front and the back in the first half of the race. This made the other skaters wonder who on earth was the “leading rabbit”. When the referee announced there was only one lap to go, everyone except Yang had two laps left.
