After defeating Feng Xiaocan in a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) tournament in November, China’s
mixed martial arts (MMA, 综合格斗) fighter Shi Ming became more famous for not just her athletic performance,
but also her identity as a traditional Chinese medicine doctor.
Her journey into the world of martial arts began at college when she joined her university’s martial arts team,
focusing on Sanda, a Chinese sport that combines kickboxing and wrestling (摔跤) techniques. With natural talent
and hard work, she quickly succeeded in local competitions. But her introduction to MMA in 2017 marked a
turning point. Under the guidance of US wrestling coach Bagher Amanolahi, Shi immersed herself in mastering
MMA’s various techniques. Her efforts soon paid off as she moved from local competitions to the global stage.
While her rise in MMA has been impressive, what makes her unique is her ability to balance two demanding
careers. Born in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province in 1994, Shi followed in her grandparents’ footsteps into
traditional Chinese medicine. Her days often start with early-morning hospital shifts, followed by concentrated
evening training. Shi believes her two roles go well together. She said, “In martial arts, you learn to respect your
competitors and understand their motivations (动机). In medicine, you treat patients with the same respect and
curiosity.”
Over time, Shi promoted her MMA skills and earned a spot in the UFC, the world’s most important MMA
organization. This was motivated by her ambition (抱负) of becoming a fighter like Zhang Weili, the first Chinese
UFC world champion.
Now, her journey of martial arts continues. “I have a great wrestling coach, a strong training team, and I apply
myself to my medical and fighting careers,” she said. “I believe I will continue to pass each test that comes my
第 4页/共 12页
way.”
4. What do we know about Shi Ming’s career

B. She began to practice Sanda in 2017.
C. Her attempt at MMA marked an important change.
D. Her performance on Sanda attracted global attention
5. What makes her different from other mixed martial artist
A. Her impressive skills of martial arts. B. Her ability to balance two identities.
C. Her high demands for career choices. D. Her focus on traditional Chinese medicine.
6. What motivates her to work hard
A. She follows the example of Zhang Weili.
B. She has a great wrestling coach and training team.
C. She dreams of being the first Chinese UFC world champion.
D. She wants to join the world’s most important MMA organization.
7. Which word best describes Shi
A. Ambitious. B. Organized. C. Considerate. D. Adventurous.

Over the past 50,000 years, at least 161 kinds of mammals (哺乳动物) were driven to extinction (灭绝) during
this period. The largest of them were hit the hardest — the megaherbivores, weighing over a ton. Fifty thousand
years ago, there were 57 kinds of megaherbivores. Today, only 11 remain. These remaining 11 kinds have also seen
extreme reductions in their populations, but not to the point of complete extinction.
A research group from the Danish Aarhus University now concludes that many of these lost kinds were hunted
to extinction by humans.
Jens-Christian Svenning, a researcher, says, “Early modern humans were effective hunters of even the largest
animals and clearly had the ability to reduce the populations of large animals. These large animals were and are
particularly easy to die out because they have long gestation (妊娠) periods and produce very few babies at a time.”
The study shows that human hunting of large animals such as mammoths, mastodons, and giant sloths was
widespread and continuous across the world. It also shows that the animals went extinct at very different times and
at different rates around the world. In some local areas, it happened quite quickly, while in other places it took over
10,000 years. But everywhere, it happened after modern humans arrived, or in Africa’s case, after cultural
第 5页/共 12页
advancements among humans.
The researchers point out that the loss of large animals has had deep ecological (生 态 的 ) effects. Large
animals play a central role in ecosystems. Their disappearance has resulted in great changes in ecosystem structures
and functions.
“Our results show the need for active protection and restoration efforts. By reintroducing large mammals, we
can help restore ecological balances and support biodiversity, which developed in ecosystems rich in large animals,”
says Svenning.
8. How many kinds of megaherbivores are there today
A. 161. B. 57. C. 11. D. 0.
9. What made the large animals easy to be extinct
A. Their long life. B. Their few babies. C. Their slow growth. D. Their special diet.
10. What does the fact that the species went extinct at different times and rates show
A. There were no large animals left in some areas.
B The environment in different areas was the same.
C. Human hunting was not the only cause of extinction.
D. Large animals could adapt easily to different conditions.
11. What’s Paragraph 5 mainly about
A. The importance of large mammals in the food chain.
B. The historical process of human hunting large mammals.
C. The need to stop human activities to protect large mammals.
D. The far-reaching effect of the extinction of large mammals on the ecosystem.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a fashion word in recent years, and its impact on society is growing
rapidly. AI refers to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that would typically require
human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. This technology is transforming every
industry, from healthcare to finance, and is expected to revolutionize the future.
One area where AI is making significant steps is healthcare. Al-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of
medical data and help doctors make more informed diagnoses and treatment decisions. This technology is
particularly useful in fields such as radiology, where AI algorithms can analyze medical images to detect
第 6页/共 12页
abnormalities that may be missed by human eyes. In finance, AI is being used to analyze vast amounts of data to
identify patterns and predict market trends. This technology can help traders make more informed decisions and
reduce the risks of financial losses. Similarly, AI-powered chatbots are being used in customer service, helping to
improve response times and provide personalized support.
As the use of AI grows, concerns about job displacement have also arisen. Some fear that AI-powered
machines and robots will replace human workers, leading to mass unemployment. While this is a possibility, it is
also important to note that AI will create new jobs in fields such as data analysis, software development, and
robotics.
Another major concern about Al is the potential for prejudice and discrimination. AI algorithms are only as
good as the data they are trained on, and if that data contains prejudice, the algorithms will also be prejudiced. This
issue is particularly concerning in fields such as criminal justice, where AI-powered systems are being used to
make decisions about sentencing. If these algorithms are prejudiced, they could make existing inequalities continue
in the criminal justice system.
Despite these concerns, the benefits of AI are numerous and undeniable. However, to ensure that these
benefits are accessible to all and to address concerns about prejudice and discrimination, it is crucial to continue
researching and developing moral AI.
12. AI outweighs humans in healthcare in that it ______.
A. ensures precise judgement. B. recognizes market tendency.
C. reduces financial adventures. D. offers personalized services.
13. What is one of the major concerns of Al
A. Algorithms will be out of date. B. A lot of human workers will be laid off.
C. New jobs will be unavailable over time. D. Unfairness may arise in criminal justice system.
14. How does the writer mainly develop this text
A. By stating facts and citing quotes.
B. By presenting influences and listing examples.
C. By showing different ideas and giving reasons.
D. By comparing research results and offering suggestions.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Artificial Intelligence: Revolutionizing the Future.
B. Artificial Intelligence: Becoming a Fashion Word.
第 7页/共 12页
C. Artificial Intelligence: Bettering Decision Making.
D. Artificial Intelligence: Improving Human Abilities.
