Thousands of giant panda sculptures will g greet residents and tourists starting Saturday in Hong Kong, where enthusiasm for the bears has grown since two cubs were born in a local theme park.
2,500 exhibits were showcased in a launch ceremony of PANDA GO! FEST HK, the city’s largest panda-themed exhibition, at Hong Kong’s airport on Monday, Dec. 2. 2024. They will be publicly displayed at the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui this weekend before setting their footprint at three other locations this month.
One designated spot is Ocean Park, home to the twin cubs, their parents and two other pandas gifted by Beijing this year. The design of six of the sculptures, made of recycled rubber barrels and resins (树脂) among other materials, was inspired by these bears.
The cubs — whose birth in August made their mother Ying Ying the world’s oldest first-time panda mom — may meet visitors in February. Ying Ying and the twin cubs’ father, Le Le, are the second pair of pandas gifted by Beijing to Hong Kong since the former British colony returned to China’s rule in 1997.
The new pair of Beijing-gifted pandas, An An and Ke Ke, who arrived in September, appeared relaxed and enjoyed their new home at Ocean Park. They are set to meet the public on Sunday.
The displays reflect Hong Kong’s use of pandas to boost its economy vast the Chinese financial hub works to regain its position as one of Asia’s top tourism destinations. Pandas are considered China’s unofficial national mascot. The country’s giant panda loan program with overseas zoos has long been seen as a tool of Beijing’s soft-power diplomacy. Hong Kong’s tourism industry representatives are upbeat about the potential impact of housing these pandas, hoping to boost visitor numbers even though caring for pandas in captivity (圈养) is expensive. Officials have encouraged businesses to capitalize on the popularity of the bears to seize opportunities in what some lawmakers have called the “panda economy.”
4. How many pandas are there now in Ocean Park of HK
A. Two. B. Four. C. Six. D. Three.
5. What is special about Ying Ying
A. She was born in HK.
B. She is the oldest panda in the world.

Indoor gardening offers all the same benefits as a garden on the ground outside. Namely, fresh food and a low environmental impact. But not everyone has the natural space for a garden, which is s where indoor planting comes in for the win. While there are many systems and techniques you can apply inside the home, PICO stands out as a versatile (多功能的) option that you can place anywhere and still achieve growing success.
Most plants need to be located near a window for light. Often this means taking up limited bookcase space. PICO is different because, while setting it on a tabletop is an option, it can also mount to vertical (垂直的) surfaces. In fact, it comes with a magnetic mount (支架), which could be used on a refrigerator or desk, plus a standard wall mount and Velcro option for mounting to windows, mirrors and other surfaces.
After the unit is fully constructed, all you have to do is add a bit of soil and a few of your favorite seeds. There is no membership or seed pod to purchase. Watering is stable and consistent with a water container and easy fill spout (注水口). A transparent window in the front allows you to easily see when more water is needed, typically about once each week. From there, the system automatically absorbs water from the container through the soil, using an on-demand system that restores moisture as the soil dries out.
With location and watering figured out, the last major aspect for successful indoor growth is proper lighting. PICO is equipped with a multi-spectrum (多光谱) growing light that conveniently extends from the small planter design. As your plant grows, the light extends up one foot higher for consistent light.
PICO is the newest addition to the urban gardening product line from Altifarm Enverde, the company that previously released two larger versions of in-home garden systems. While PICO is not intended to provide high quantities of food, its automatic functions and placement versatility make it an option for growing readily available herbs, visually pleasing succulents, or fragrant mini roses.
8. What makes PICO unique according to Paragraph 1
A. The advancement of techniques.
B. The variety of plant options.
C The quantity of food supplies.
D. The flexibility in placement.
9. What can be concluded about the process of watering
A. It needs daily manual watering.
B. It employs a standard water spout.
C. It has an automatic watering system.
D. It varies according to the type of soil.
10. What’s the function of multi-spectrum growing design
A. To extend the height of the plants.
B. To provide continuous light for growth.
C. To change the color of the plant.
D. To add convenience to gardening.
11. What does the text mainly talk about
A. PICO’s functions and major strengths.
B. PICO’s automatic watering methods.
C. PICO’s impact on the environment.
D. PICO’s membership requirements.

Since the public release of ChatGPT, we’ve interacted more and more with chatbots and other programs that use natural language processing and generative artificial intelligence to simulate conversation. And there’s a lot we want to know. How do chatbots generate their answers to our questions How and where do they get their information Could a chatbot ever form a genuine connection with a human And at what point might the chatbot itself seem human
These are the questions the cartoonist and writer Amy Kurzweil brings to Artificial: A Love Story, a graphic memoir that takes a heartfelt look at the technological dimensions of human connection. Kurzweil’s perspective and storytelling shows her close relationship with her father, computer scientist and inventor Ray Kurzweil, who has long predicted the eventual merging of human and machine.
At its core, Artificial is an intimate story about how we preserve the bonds of family and the meaning of heritage across physical and temporal distances. Kurzweil narrates the life of her grandfather, Fritz “Fred” Kurzweil, who died when Ray was only 22.
Now Fred is coming back to life, in a way, through AI. His memories, pieced together through personal letters and documentation, have become data, fed to an algorithm (算法) for Ray Kurzweil’s latest invention: Fredbot, a chatbot that will write in the voice of his father. Amy Kurzweil, who was tasked with gathering and digitizing thousands of old, often handwritten documents, brings a keen eye to her illustrations, contrasting the ambitious goals of her father’s project and the mundanity of sifting through (仔细筛选) file after file, box after box, in a family storage unit. Throughout the narrative, she thinks about the meaning not only of these materials but also of the digital relics of our everyday lives.
Human presence is powerful, yet it is also fleeting. It can arise through the technologies we use to connect with others but is subject to the mistakes of memory and perspective. Kurzweil expresses a growing understanding of her family’s legacy and how it has influenced her life as an artist and her relationships.
12. What is the main topic of Artificial: A Love Story
A. The prediction of the merging of human and machine.
B. The exploration of human bond in technological age.
C. The development of chatbots and AI technology.
D. The life story of Amy Kurzweil and his father.
13. What can we infer about Fredbot
A. It physically resembles Fred. B. It uses AI to write in Fred’s voice.
C. It simulates the personality of Fred. D. It narrates the story of Amy’s father.
14. What does the word “mundanity” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. The excitement of a new project. B. The challenge of downloading files.
C. The boredom of sorting documents. D. The creativity of illustrating a story.
15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To criticize the use of technology. B. To give a brief account of AI history.
C. To introduce a new chatbot invention. D. To reflect on the impact of technology.
【答案】12. B 13. B 14. C 15. D

It was a sunny May morning in 2023. Michael Armus, a 69-year-old retired car painter, entered Bank of the West to deposit a check, feeling something wrong. Normally, bank workers greeted him cheerfully and laughed at his simple jokes.
But today, none of the tellers acknowledged him. Nor did the bank’s manager, who sat at his desk with his head down and seemed to be whispering into his telephone. As Armus approached the teller windows, he noticed the three employees had similar worried looks on their faces. He heard one teller whisper to another, “He’s got a note.”
Armus looked to his left and noticed a man at another window with his striped T-shirt pulled up to partially hide his face. “This is a robbery,” Armus thought.
He heard the man say, “I don’t want to hurt anybody.” Minutes earlier, the man had passed a note to the teller demanding cash and saying he had a gun. When his shirt slipped slightly, Armus recognized him — Eduardo, who often read Bible stories to passersby on a street corner. Suddenly, instead of being frightened, Armus felt compassion for him, and a thought popped into his head: Maybe I can help.
He walked over to the man and calmly asked, “What’s wrong Don’t you have a job ”
Shocked, Eduardo looked at Armus and exclaimed (呼喊), “There is nothing in this town for me. Nothing!” Then, with tears streaming down his face, he said, “I just want to go to prison.”
Armus recalled his own troubled past. “I’ve been lost too,” he said gently. “Let’s talk outside.” To everyone’s surprise, Eduardo agreed.
Outside, Armus hugged Eduardo as he sobbed. Police soon arrived, aiming rifles (步枪) until they confirmed Armus was innocent. Eduardo, charged with attempted robbery, had no real gun. Officers praised Armus for calming the crisis.
“Love overcomes all,” Armus later said. He often helped the homeless, carrying blankets in his car.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Armus kept his hand on Eduardo’s shoulder. “Everyone deserves hope,” he whispered.

Months later, Armus spotted a familiar figure on the street corner.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Armus kept his hand on Eduardo’s shoulder. “Everyone deserves hope,” he whispered. Eduardo’s tearful eyes met him, filled with shame. “I lost everything — my job, my family, ” Eduardo choked out. Armus nodded, recalling his own struggles. “Darkness doesn’t last forever, ” he said firmly. “Let this be your turning point.” As officers approached, Armus urged, “He needs help, not just punishment.” They agreed, and Armus promised to visit Eduardo. The crowd, once fearful, now watched in passion had disarmed chaos.
Months later, Armus spotted a familiar figure on the street corner. Eduardo stood there, assisting a homeless outreach group. Armus approached him, a smile spreading across his face. “They offered me counseling in jail,” Eduardo explained. “Now I’m helping others find hope — like you did for me.” Together, they distributed blankets from Armus’s car, their laughter mixing with the hum of the city. Passersby paused, curious about the man who once caused a scene but now radiated quiet strength. Love had rewritten the story.

【原文】M: Well, it’s 6:30 p.m. I’m James Wyatt, and you’re listening to The Music of My Life. Today’s special guest is the popular singer, Sparrow. Welcome to the studio!
W: Thanks for having me!
M: So, two number-one hits in six months! How does that feel
W: Honestly Pretty unreal! It feels like a dream! I’ve been trying to get my music heard for years, and now, suddenly, it’s all happening.
M: It all started with a music video you posted on social media, right
W: Yeah. But “Shining Stars” was actually the fourth song I had released online. Somehow, the video was seen by the music producer, Gander.
M: Right. And he shared it on his page.
W: Exactly. And then, everything blew up! Spin Records offered me a deal, and the next thing I knew was the fact that I was in the studio making Galaxy!
M: It is such a great album by the way! You deserve these honors!
W: Thanks!
M: The first song “Ground Control” went straight to the top of the charts. And now, it seems you’ve got another number-one hit on your hands! Let’s hear it now. This is “Earth-like Planet”.

【原文】I’ve never really been fond of outdoor activities. As a small-town girl, nature was simply a part of my daily life. It wasn’t until I came to the film school in New York that I realized just how much I had been taking for granted. Surrounded by tall buildings, I was surprised at how anxious I felt. That’s why when my friend invited me to join the nature club, I decided to go along. I didn’t expect it to be so much fun! Each Saturday afternoon, about twenty of us will take the subway to Central Park. It only takes about a quarter of an hour from our campus. Often, we take nature walks, collect litter, and talk. We’ve also had special sessions on birdwatching and nature photography. Next month, we’re planning to drive up to the Adirondack Mountains for a camping trip, and I’m going to take my video camera along and see what I can shoot. Thanks to the nature club, I’ve started taking classes in making documentaries. My dream is to make a nature film as good as The Blue Planet or My Octopus Teacher someday.英语

A. To cater to panda fans in HK. B. To boost the economy of tourism in HK.
C. To assist Beijing’s soft-power diplomacy. D. To raise money for caring for pandas in captivity.
7. What is Hong Kong’s tourism industry representatives’ attitude towards the panda program
A. Pessimistic. B. Conservative. C. Concerned. D. Optimistic.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;
