Tastinggood and requiring just a cup of boiling water to prepare, instant noodles (方便面) are one of the most
popular foods in the world. But instant noodles often contain sky-high amounts of sodium (钠). Fortunately, food
start-up Immi is reinventing the beloved food. The noodles they make are the only 100% plant-based instant noodle
on the market, and contain far less sodium than their competitors.
The company is set up by Kevin Lee and Kevin Chanthasiriphan. Lee said that seeing instant noodles lovers in
their familyforsakethe food for health reasons drove them to come up with new ones.
But the process wasn’t easy. Lee said that the development stage took longer than they expected, as the pair
put a lot of effortinto developing a recipe (食谱) that still had the same taste as the former noodles. After having
thousands of volunteers taste the products and offertheir opinions, they finally decide on a unique plant-based
mixture. Lee and Chanthasiriphan said their use of high-quality food led to another challenge—high price.
People expect instant noodles to be cheap, but because of their good quality, Immi’s noodles must be sold at a
higher price. The pair worked hard to make the noodles relatively affordable, even though it would mean costing
more than their competitors.
Chanthasiriphan said, “Our goal is to do more than just put food into people’s stomachs. Wewant to make
sure this food is also healthy.”Immi’seffortsto create new noodles are extremely important to people who are
living with limited kitchen food. People who are looking for an easy-to-prepare meal now have a healthier choice
on hand.

A. They can be kept for a longer time.B. They use local products.
C. They are much healthier.D. They are easier to cook.
29. What does the underlined word “forsake” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Be attracted to.B. Give upC. Depend on.D. Look for.
30. Why did Lee and Chanthasiriphan spend so much time on the development stage
A. They lacked money to do the test.B. They failed to find volunteers at first.
第 6页/共 13页
C. They tried hard to keep the former taste.D. They had to test environmentally friendly products.
31. What probably stops Immi’s noodles attracting people
A. The quality.B. The service.C. The effect.D. The affordability.

Dolphins are much more intelligent than humans previously thought. Scientists have recently discovered that
bottle-nosed dolphins can identify themselves in the mirror—much like you and I can!
When you see a zit (青春痘) on your face, what do you do Go to the mirror time and again, and wonder what
it is still doing there. Well, this is exactly what two male bottle-nosed dolphins, Presley and Tab,do as well. So,
these lovable aquatic animals (水栖动物) are not just sailors, friends, but they are also aware of their bodies—
almost like humans!
A Reuters news agency report in The Telegraphnewspaper reports says that Presley and Tabstay in a pool
with reflective glass walls in the New YorkAquarium. Researchers in the wildlife Conservation society’s Osborn
Laboratories of Marine science noticed that when Presley and Tabsaw their own reflections, they did not seem to
think that they were looking at another dolphin.
Dolphins are very social creatures, and are friendly with humans as well as their own kind. This got the
researchers thinking. Perhaps the dolphins identified their own images So they decided to find out. Using
non-toxic (无毒的) ink, they made marks on different parts of the dolphins’ bodies, changing the place every week.
Every time their bodies were marked, the dolphins made more trips to the mirror than usual. If the ink mark was on
their tummy (肚子), they would expose their tummy to the mirror and look at it for a long time.
Now doesn’t that sound familiar Imagine the dolphins wondering—“Now where did that mark come from
I wonder how long it’s going to stay ”Tillnow, only the great apes like the chimps, the gorillas and the orangutans
have displayed this quality of identifying their images in the mirror. All other animals have failed this test.
The researchers feel that these findings may increase human understanding towards dolphinswhich are being
hunted and killed in great numbers. Dolphin fins are considered to be a very delicious dish in several south-East
Asian countries.

A. They can recognize their bodies in the mirror.
B. They tend to have human awareness.
C. They love to see the reflections of their bodies.

D. They build social networks with humans and their own kind.

A. They communicated more with the dolphins.
B. They made the dolphins trip more to the mirror.
C. They drew special symbols on the dolphins’ bodies.
D. They made the dolphins expose their tummy to the mirror.
34. Which statement can Not be inferred from the text
A. Dolphins are not being protected well.
B. Dolphins care much more about their images.
C. Dolphins get along well with humans.
D. Dolphins are as smart as the great apes like the chimps.

My Favorite Chinese TraditionalFestival
My favorite Chinese traditional festival is the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year.
It usually falls in late January or early February, marking the beginning of a new lunar year. During this festiv
al, families get together, clean their houses to sweep away bad luck, set offfireworks, and enjoy big feasts, especial
ly on New Year’sEve. Red decorations and red envelopes symbolize good luck and happiness.
I love the Spring Festival because it brings family members closer, allowing us to share joyful moments and cr
eate warm memories together. Moreover, it carries rich cultural meanings, such as hope, renewal, and unity. This m
eaningful and festive atmosphere fills my heart with happiness every year.
