Last Saturday, when my grandfather got frustrated at the name of the singer of a song, I grabbed my smartphone and found it in seconds. This astonished my grandfather, who didn’t understand how I’d checked the information so quickly. I laughed and explained, but afterwards, it made me think about how much I depend on technology.
When I reflected on its impact on my education, I saw that technology has been significant in many ways. Returning to the story of my grandfather, he had asked me more about how I used it and about university life. He said he thought we had an easy life compared to previous generations. I could see his point.
Not only are we lucky enough to have the same educational benefits as those of previous generations, but we have so many more. We still have walk-in libraries; however, the only option for studying used to be sitting in these libraries with as many books from your reading list as you could find, yet now a single search online can immediately provide access to a huge range of resources. Interaction between students and university staff is another area that has changed considerably. We can have face-to-face time with our tutors, and also communicate using our electronic devices. The most popular means is via social media, and it has become unacceptable for messages to be unanswered for any length of time. While this puts an extra stress on the university’s academic support team, we students are greatly benefited.
When we compare the student life of the past and the present, it is tempting to focus on the obvious differences in technology. In fact, students are doing what they’ve always done: embracing the resources available and adapting them to work more efficiently and to live more enjoyably. The pace of change in technology continuously gathers speed, so we have to value each innovation as it happens.
4.Why does the author mention the story of his grandfather
A.To share an interesting experience. B.To draw readers’ attention to the topic.
C.To provide an example for his opinion. D.To arouse readers’ concern about a problem.
5.What is the grandfather’s attitude towards the role of technology
A.Favourable. B.Tolerant. C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.
6.What is a new challenge technology brings to the academic support team
A.Using various electronic devices. B.Scheduling online communication.
C.Providing more flexible reading lists. D.Responding to all inquiries from students.
7.What can be concluded from the last paragraph
A.Students should make full use of technology.
B.Students should value the time and enjoy their life.
C.We should take technological differences seriously.
D.We should resist the temptation of up-coming innovation.
By now, most people know they should be eating more vegetables. But are there ways to get more from the vegetables you already eat A research shows that when it comes to vegetables, it’s not only how much we eat, but also how we prepare them, that decides the vitamins and other nutrients that enter our body.
Many studies show that people who eat lots of vegetables have less heart disease, and eye problems and even cancer. But raw vegetables are not always best. The researchers found that 198 Germans who eat raw food were short of lycopene, the matter found in tomatoes and other red vegetables. “There is an idea that raw foods are always going to be better,” says Steven K. Clinton, a professor at Ohi o State University. “For fruits and vegetables, sometimes a little bit of cooking can be helpful.”
A number of factors decide how the vegetables do good to people’s health before they reach the table, including where and how they were grown and stored before being bought. No single cooking way is best. Some nutrients are easily lost in cooking if they are cooked in different ways.
Vitamins C and B are often lost. In January, another report said that boiling was better for carrots than frying or serving them raw. Frying was the worst way to cook.
What cooked with the vegetables can also be important When the vegetables were cooked with fat, the diners can get more nutrients. Fat can also make the taste of vegetables better, meaning that people will eat more of them. Putting on some other things that make it taste better—a little salt—can make the food taste better.
8.The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A.people should eat more vegetables
B.the way people eat vegetables is important
C.eating vegetables is good for us
D.how much vegetables one should eat
9.The people who eat the raw vegetables for a long time will ________.

10.The following decide how the vegetables do good to people EXCEPT ________.
A.the place where the vegetables are grown
B.the way how the vegetables are stored
C.the way how the vegetables are prepared
D.the price at which the vegetable are sold
11.From the last paragraph, we can know ________.
A.It’s better to cook vegetables with fat
B.the more fat in the cooking, the fewer vegetables people will eat
C.It’s better to cook the vegetables without salt
D.the fat will increase the nutrition of the vegetables
Reading books is one of the best things you can do. Reading allows you to learn new things, use your imagination, and calm down before bed. But if you are a reader, you may not have enough room to store all the books you read. And the cost of buying books keeps using. Now a new buyback program in the UK could be the perfect solution.
Bookloop recently started a buy-back project where readers can trade books they have already read for credits or more pre-owned books. The project is part of Bookshop.org, an online platform for independent booksellers. Bookloop is being run in partnership with the buy-back book platform Zeercle that operates in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, and Sweden. Over 10,000 books are processed every day.
Customers can upload their books to a valuation system and then drop the books off at a collection site or the books can be picked up from home. The lowest price of books sold is 5. Site credits are given that can be used for purchasing other books. The returned books are sold by Zeercle through the online marketplace.
“We are glad to see Bookshop.org set up this system, which is a great way of repurposing books, and helping support bookshops and new book purchases,” said Charlie Richards, an independent bookseller.
The business model of Bookshop.org is based on independent booksellers setting up bookstores on its website. These shops receive the full profit from selling the pre-owned books. In fact, only 2% of the books that were sold are not purchased, and most of these unsold books are donated to charities.
“Getting pre-owned books to new readers while benefiting both bookshops and authors feels extremely positive,” said Amber Harrison of the FOLDE store in Dorset. “It is a really great way of getting books into the hands of more people, without cost being a barrier.”

He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali’s running shoes. Zahra’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.
Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Take a Break from Social Media
Good morning, everyone!
I’m so privileged to deliver a speech here. In the age of the Internet when many teenagers are addicted to social media, I think we should take a break from it.
Firstly, with much time spent on social media, students nowadays cannot concentrate on their studies, which will inevitably affect their academic performance. Besides, excessive exposure to the virtual world may create a false sense of reality and a loss of real human contact. Lastly, spending too much time on social network could also bring about mental and physical health issues such as depression and poor eyesight.
Even though social media can keep us updated, we do need to turn off our devices for a while and embrace the physical world.
That’s all. Thank you.

Besides, when freed from social media, we will have more time for hobbies like reading and painting, through which we can enjoy our life to the fullest.
