The skin is the body’s largest organ. Look at it under a microscope, and you will see thousands of nerve endings that help keep the brain connected to the outside world through touch, pressure, and pain. But Zhenan Bao sees something more.
For Bao, a Stanford chemical engineer focusing on polymers(聚合物), the skin is not only a sensory organ but also a flexible, stretchable, and self-healing material. Bao works in an emerging field that aims to develop electronic skin, or e-skin, to recreate some functions of the human skin for use in artificial limbs (肢) as well as robotics. For people who wear artificial limbs, a sense of touch would improve their quality of life immeasurably.
“Our current electronics are easily broken and difficult to bend or move. But if we can make them all like skin, it can potentially change how humans interact and connect with electronics,” Bao says. Bao sees possible applications for e-skin in wearable devices. “There is a lot of interest in wearable devices that go beyond just measuring how many steps we walk each day, or the heart rate,” she adds.
The key to such delicate applications is that the electronics must be stretchable. That’s where polymers come in. A polymer is a large molecule(分子) made up of smaller molecules that are linked together like a chain. By changing the structure of the molecules, Bao and her team came up with a new flexible material that was perfect for the job.
At Stanford, Bao and her colleagues worked on polymers for displays that can stretch and fold. After more than three years of work, they published a proof-of-principle study in the journal Nature for a super-stretchy polymer. The material can be eventually used for body-worn electronics that measure and display vital signs. Bao is driven by the idea of developing electronics that could benefit medical diagnosis and health care. But she thinks the road to commercialization is long.
24.Which is one of the goals of developing e-skin
A.To touch robots.
B.To replace artificial limbs.
C.To aid some disabled individuals.
D.To improve humans’ sensory organs.
25.What does Bao expect of e-skin compared to current electronics
A.It will be less interactive.
B.It will be less convenient to wear.
C.It will be more durable and flexible.
D.It will be more bendable and breakable.
26.What can we learn about the super-stretchy polymer from the text
A.It lacks proof of principle.
B.It can forecast the body’s vital signs.
C.It has been commercialized and sells well.
D.It is in the research and development stage.
27.What is the best title for the text
A.Electronics: Becoming the Focus of Engineers
B.E-skin: Transforming Human-Tech Interaction
C.A Polymer: Acting as a Perfect Chemical Material
D.Applications: Changing the Structure of the Molecules

The final week of February 2025 offered a unique opportunity for star watchers to see all seven other planets of our solar system align(对齐) in the night sky. Throughout February, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune were visible, and then Mercury joined them to complete the lineup. The exact timing of this event depended on your location, but it promised to be a remarkable sight.
These planetary alignments, often called “planetary parades”, have captured significant media attention recently. While they were indeed awe-inspiring, it was important to clarify some common misconceptions before you headed outside to observe. For instance, seeing Uranus and Neptune required binoculars or a small telescope, as they were not visible to human eyes. Additionally, some planets appeared low on the western horizon around dusk, while others were bright and high in the sky after sunset.
A planetary alignment occurred when planets lined up on the same side of the sun. This happened because the planets orbited the sun in a similar plane, known as the ecliptic (黄道).As a result, from our perspective on Earth, the planets appeared to form a line across the sky, even if they were not perfectly aligned in space.
Seeing multiple planets at once is not exceedingly rare, but spotting all seven is special. Such events become rarer with each additional planet in the lineup. Astrophysicist David Armstrong said this great planetary alignment wouldn’t happen again until 2040. The alignment also coincided with a new moon, which was ideal for watching stars due to the minimal light it reflected.
On the night of 28th February, the best time to observe was right after sunset. Mercury, Neptune, and Saturn were low in the western sky, with Venus shining brightly above them. While not all planets might have been visible, the interest in this “planetary parade” was a catalyst for engagement. Engaging in astronomy and appreciating the wonders of the solar system was a fantastic experience. If you had had the chance and interest, you could have taken the time to step outside and witness this event.
28.What is the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph
A.To present a phenomenon.
B.To compare astronomical events.
C.To show the exact observation location.
D.To list the planets in order of their brightness.
29.What do we know about all the planets during the alignment
A.They looked equally bright after sunset.
B.Their visibility varied with time and positions.
C.Their height was on the same horizon at dusk.
D.They were very small and invisible to human eyes.
30.Why is the new moon mentioned
A.To explain how the ecliptic was formed.
B.To introduce the conditions of the alignment.
C.To state why the alignment was easier to see.
D.To recommend the ideal place for watching planets.
31.What does the underlined word “catalyst” in the last paragraph refer to
A.A driving force. B.A big loss.
C.A desperate experience. D.A bad idea.

From an airplane, cars moving slowly down the highway look like ants. But unlike cars, ants manage to avoid the problem of stop-and-go traffic. Researchers are now studying these insects’ helpful ways to learn how to further program self-driving cars that run more efficiently and don’t get stuck in traffic.
The free flow of traffic becomes not stable as the number of cars increases on a highway. At 15 vehicles per mile per lane(车道), one driver hitting their brakes can start a long-lasting wave of traffic jams.
The previous research of Nishinari, a mathematical physicist at the University of Tokyo, had shown that ants looking for food can keep their flow even at high densities (密度). In a recent study, researchers recorded ants on their way to find food and used traffic-engineering models to analyze their movement. They found that the ants don’t get stuck because they travel in groups of 3 to 20 that move at almost the same speed while keeping good distances between one another, and they don’t speed up to go past others.
Human drivers during the rush hour are hardly likely to follow such rules. “We’ re trying to get the most benefits for ourselves, which is why, at a certain point, we start to have a traffic jam,” says study co-author Nicola Pugno. But self-driving cars, if they one day become very common, could have more cooperative programming.
This vehicle network would be like ants on a trail, which use smell to work together in their behaviors. In both ant and vehicle traffic, this type of system can be very strong and able to recover quickly, according to Nishinari.
Still, ants can do things that cars— even self-driving ones— can’t. Plus, unlike cars, ants don’t crash; they can actually walk over one another. Today’s drivers can learn from ants to avoid causing a traffic jam: Keep a safe distance from the car in front. By doing this, drivers can deal with braking in heavy traffic conditions that would otherwise become a big traffic jam.
32.Why do researchers study ants’ behaviors
A.To create a stable environment for ants.
B.To upgrade certain autonomous vehicles.
C.To understand the social interaction among ants.
D.To analyze the differences between ants and cars.
33.What does paragraph 3 focus on
A.How ants compete for food.
B.How ants keep traffic flowing.
C.How ants get stuck in traffic jams.
D.How ants move at different speeds.
34.What does Nicola Pugno stress as the cause of traffic jams
A.The profit motive of humans.
B.The inefficiency of traffic rules.
C.The high density of vehicles on the road.
D.The poor performance of self-driving cars.
35.What can we conclude from ants’ behaviors
A.Slow and steady wins the race.
B.Two heads are better than one.
C.Actions speak louder than words.
D.United we stand, divided we fall.

On Christmas morning, the freezing wind blew into my small apartment. “Another lonely Christmas,” I whispered, holding my last dollar, with my stomach empty.
Earlier that year, I had to leave school because my parents’ financial situation had taken a turn for the worse, and they couldn’t afford to support my education any longer. Now, with no job and no friends in this new city, I touched the holes in my old green coat—a reminder of happier times when I was carefree on campus.
I put on the coat, its torn shoulder blowing in the wind, and stepped outside. In the park, I sat on a cold bench. “Please, help me,” I cried into my hands. The snow felt like sharp pins on my face.
I left the park and walked down the street full of holiday lights. Rain and snow soaked(使湿透) my coat when I passed a coffee shop. Inside, people in nice dresses laughed over hot drinks. I pressed my hand against the window, leaving a foggy mark. I counted my last dollar. Tea cost more. Sadly, I turned back.
As I heard a bell ringing, I noticed a charitable organization volunteer standing next to a red donation bucket. This organization was raising funds to help those in need. My hand trembled as I held my last dollar. I thought to myself, “You can still work and earn more money. They need this dollar more than you do.” Finally, I placed it into the bucket.
That afternoon, I opened my bank letter. “$1000 !” I shouted. My hands shook as I went to the bank to check. “We found a deposit(存款) that was added earlier,” the manager said, looking at my wet clothes. “But I didn’t have any savings,” I responded. “It’s from a charitable organization, Miss,” he said kindly. As I walked back home, I couldn’t help but think this might be a sign that things were about to get better and that I needed to find a way to give back.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With the money from the charitable organization, I started to change my life. I still keep the old green coat today, a reminder of that hard but warm day.

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club— we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages— you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday— Spanish; Tuesday— Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday— French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.

M: I must say, it looks and smells absolutely delicious. What are those things on top
W: Nuts.
M: May I taste your nuts
W: Of course. We can share our lunch with each other during working days, so we can eat more flavors of food.
M: That sounds like an excellent idea.
听下面一段独白,回答第18至第20三个小题。现在,你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
(Text 10)
M: My name is Simon. I started playing chess when I was three years old. When I was five, I could defeat older kids, showing my natural talent for the game. By the time I was eleven, my parents saw my potential and had me join under-eighteen tournaments. We spent weekends traveling across the country. Although the travel was exciting, I didn’t win much at first. When I was seventeen in 2018, I started winning every competition I entered. The following year, I started entering adult chess contests, facing much older and stronger opponents. This was both exciting and helped me grow quickly. In 2020, I won my first adult competition. However, I felt something was missing because I had missed out on many social and personal experiences. In 2022, I decided to take a break from chess to focus on school. This break helped me rediscover my love for chess. Now, I am back with a new goal: to be selected for the national team.

Dear Paul,
I’m thrilled to hear that you’ ll take a city walk in China! Chongqing is a fantastic choice, and I can’t wait to travel to the city with you.
I highly recommend starting at Jiefangbei, the bustling heart of downtown. Then we can head to Hongyadong, where you can see the unique architecture that resembles something out of a fantasy movie. Next, we can wander through Ciqikou, an ancient town filled with traditional teahouses and delicious local snacks. Finally, let’s take a night cruise on the Yangtze River to enjoy the stunning city lights.
I hope this trip will give you a taste of Chongqing’s vibrant culture. I believe you’ll have an incredible time exploring every corner of this amazing city. Looking forward to meeting you soon!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
参考范文:
With the money from the charitable organization, I started to change my life. First, I bought some new clothes to replace my worn-out ones. Then, I invested the rest of the money in attending evening school and buying books for a job-hunting course, driven by the hope of turning my life around and helping others in return. After weeks of hard work, I eventually got a job at a small grocery store. At first, it was tough, but I was determined to do my best. I greeted customers with a big smile, helped them find what they needed, and slowly made some new friends there.
I still keep the old green coat today, a reminder of that hard but warm day. When I see it, I think about how far I’ve come. I often donate money to the charitable organization and volunteer at local shelters, sharing my story with those struggling people. I tell them about that memorable Christmas, about the coat with its torn shoulder, and about the small act of kindness that changed my life. I say to them, “No matter how dark it seems, there’s always a glimmer of hope.” When I speak, I see their eyes light up with the same hope that once warmed my heart on that freezing day.
