As teenagers, you may have many dreams. Some dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize. Some can be small. You may just want to become one of the ten best students in your class.
Once you have a dream, what do you do with it Do you ever try to make your dream come true
Follow Your Heart by the Australian writer Andrew Matthews tells us that making our dreams come true is life’s biggest challenge. You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is impossible for you to become a writer. These kinds of thoughts stop you from realizing your dream, the book says.
In fact, everyone can make his or her dream come true. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want. Then, do what you need to do step by step and your dream will come true faster because a big dream is, in fact, many small dreams. You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the road to your dream. But the biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you learn more, while saving ten yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book.
As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn more skills and find new interests.

2.What stops you from realizing your dream according to Follow Your Heart
3.Why do you need to do things step by step
4.Where does the biggest difficulty come from
5.How do you plan to achieve your dream (请自拟一句话作答)
I’m a junior middle school student in Anhui Province. I’m glad to tell you that our school has greatly changed in the past few years.
Our school has grown much larger than before. The government and our school have spent much on the school construction. They have built more teaching buildings and planted more trees. There is a beautiful garden in the south of the campus, where we can relax ourselves when we are free. They have moved the playground to the north. It looks very modern and full of sports equipment.
Now we have reduced our learning load. We are able to spare some time to enjoy ourselves in the library, reading what we are fond of. As a result, we are not only more aware of the outside world but also richer in knowledge. After school, a lot of students go to the playground to play basketball, football and other sports games. We can do everything we like at the weekend, such as drawing, singing and dancing.
Our teachers have got their teaching approaches (方法) improved. They create many games to make learning more interesting. As a result, we are studying much more actively. We all feel that we have performed much better.

At the age of 15, I bought a book of poems about Tang Dynasty. Through it, I heard of Yangzhou for the first time. I found a poem written by Li Bai very interesting. The name of the poem is “Sailing to Yangzhou in March”.
Yangzhou has a long history. In the old town, there are many old streets and houses. It’s best to visit the city in spring. Spring paints the city in bright colors.
Yangzhou has beautiful gardens. Among them, the Slender West Lake, one of the biggest attractions in the city, was my first stop. The park is very beautiful. What a shame I simply could spend half a day!
My next stop was He Garden, one of the best protected gardens in Yangzhou. It was once owned by the family of He Zhidao in Qing Dynasty. He Zhidao successfully brought Chinese and Western architectural (建筑的) features together.
At last, I went to the Grand Canal. I took a boat trip along the part of the canal in Yangzhou.

I have lived in France for nine years, but I cannot walk down the street without being recognized (认出) as an Englishman from 50 metres away, before I open my mouth. Why
In France, the quickest way to recognize an Englishman is that he’ll be the one with the belly (肚子) and the shirt hanging out. Englishmen often wear shapeless black T-shirts, either too big or too small. However, Frenchmen are more formal in dressing. Their T-shirts have collars (领子). Shorts have buttons and zips rather than drawstrings (拉绳). Shoes look expensive.
Englishmen think of lunchtime as 1 p.m., but for Frenchmen it is 12 o’clock, one hour earlier. This may explain the sad looks if an Englishman arrives at a local restaurant at 1:30 p.m. At that time most restaurants don’t have waiters. All the cooking and serving may be done by the boss and his wife. When you are shown to your table, just sit there and wait. Don’t wave your hands to the waiters. Englishmen think that guests should do something to make the waiters pay attention to them. But in France some bread and water will come first, and then the waiter will take your order according to the rhythm (节奏) of the restaurant. Have enough patience (耐心)!
Some 54 between Englishmen and Frenchmen
Frenchmen Englishmen
Dress ●wear T-shirts with collars ●wear shorts with buttons and zips ●wear shoes which 55 much ●wear T-shirts which are shapeless ●wear shorts mostly with drawstrings ●wear shoes which may be cheap
Lunch ●have lunch at noon ●follow the rhythm of the restaurant ●have lunch at or after 1 p.m. ●do something to attract the 56 attention
Conclusion ●Englishmen wear 57 formal clothes than Frenchman. ●Englishmen are not 58 enough for meals compared with Frenchmen.

This month in Travellers’ Corner there are three teenagers’ experiences in year-abroad programmes.
Mariko Okada (from Tokyo)
My year abroad in the United States was a fantastic (奇妙的) experience. I’m not a shy person, and was very comfortable while speaking to everyone, so I got lots of speaking practice. I also learned lots of interesting things about American culture. When I got home, my friends all said that I had improved so much! I hope to go back again in the future.
Carla Fonseca (from Rio de Janeiro)
I spent last year studying English in London. I’m from a small town and London is a very big city. Sometimes I felt it was too big. There were so many people to talk to, but I always felt bad about my English. I missed my family and I really missed my two cats. My roommate was always using our telephone, so I hardly had the chance for a nice long talk with my parents. I think that it was a good experience for me, but I’m glad to be home!
Alvin Chen (from Hong Kong)
Studying in New Zealand was a fun experience for me, but it was also lots of hard work! I had English classes six hours a day, five days a week — with lots of homework. I also kept a diary of my experience. I like to write and I wrote two or three pages in my diary every day. On Saturdays, my home-stay family took me to lots of interesting places and showed me so many wonderful things about the local culture. I’m really glad that I went!

Kelsey writes her feelings about an adventure story and she shows great interest in the story. She opens her article with a quote (引言). It is a great way to begin a book review (评论).
“Brian Robeson was stopped and stricken with a white flash of horror, an adventure so horrible that his breathing, his thinking and his heart had nearly stopped.” This quote was from the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. It shows why this book was too good to put down.
Brian Robeson, an eleven-year-old boy, left his home in New York to go to Canada to see his father. He was on a plane (a two-person plane). It was in the middle of the Canadian forest when the pilot had a heart attack. Brian was trapped in the air. The time traveller paused for a moment as he thought back to his adventure. Then, he continued:
“One of them came out of the bushes and ran towards me. He was just over a metre tall and very thin. I was surprised by how beautiful and graceful he was.
“The little man came up to me and looked into my face. Then, he began laughing. I realized that he was not even a little afraid of me. And I thought this was strange. He then spoke to another two little men. He did not use a language I knew. By now, about ten of the little people were surrounding me. They began gently touching me, as if to make sure that I was real. I was not at all afraid, though (不过)。

Modern Cinderella
Once upon a time—the time being the other night—the Prince was as excited as a gamer with the new highest score. He had just danced with an amazing young woman during the taping of his weekly TV show, Dancing with the Prince. He had only agreed to do the show to help his mother, the Queen, raise money for charity. But when he twirled (旋转) this lovely dancer, he found himself floating on a cloud.
However, the young woman’s cell phone rang as the music stopped at midnight, and she rushed from the palace. All she left behind was a purple sneaker (运动鞋).
The Prince fell into despair (绝望). “I must find her again,” he cried, “for tomorrow night’s final show!” Seeing the Prince’s tears, the Queen advised “He who gets the right sources (来源) will surely succeed.” After much consideration, the Prince made a plan. First, he interviewed everyone who had attended the show, but no one knew. Next, he searched the internet but found no one after entering “great dancer with purple shoe”. Then, he put up posters of the purple sneaker all over the kingdom’s social network. Yet no one recognized the shoe or knew its owner.
“I will continue my search,” he cried, holding the sneaker and his computer compass (指南针). “Even if I must personally travel the entire kingdom.” With that, the Prince powered up his electric skateboard and set out!
At the first house, a woman came out to greet the Prince. The excited woman struggled to jam her large foot into the shoe, but it was too small. At the next house, another woman eagerly tried on the sneaker. The shoe flopped (掉落) and fell off. At every home the Prince visited, the purple sneaker seemed as big as a boat or as small as a seed. No foot met his expectations.
As the day wore on, the Prince grew sadder. His discouraged heart was like a cell phone in need of recharging. Finally, there was only one house left to visit. When the Prince arrived, three sisters stood in front, offering their feet. The shoe fit none of them.
“Does anyone else live here ” the Prince asked. From inside the house came a chime (铃声). A young woman stepped outside and handed a phone to the oldest sister.
The Prince quickly held out the sneaker and requested (请求), “Please try this on.” She did, and it fit her foot perfectly!
“You’re my missing dancer!” the Prince cried. “Will you be my dance partner forever ”
The young woman smiled and replied, “Thanks, but not right now. I’ll dance tomorrow, but I have many plans. First, I want to travel.”
The Prince begged, “Please, say yes! After all, this is a fairy tale, where anything can happen.”
“Sorry, Prince. You’ll just have to wait.”
“That’s cool,” the Prince sighed, “but at least tell me your name.”
“It’s Cinderella,” the woman replied. She wrote on a piece of paper. “Here’s my number. Let’s stay in touch. TTYLP.”
The Prince looked puzzled.
“It means Talk To You Later, Prince,” Cinderella explained.
