Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and a lot of money and so on. Why Because those who have big houses may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something wrong, people around you will help you to correct it. And when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more chances to challenge (挑战) yourself. So you can't always say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving (旋转的) door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.
1. Those who have big houses may often feel ______.
A. happy B. lonely C. free D. excited
2. When you fall down in a P.E. class, both your teacher and your classmates will ______.
A. laugh at you B. play jokes on you
C. quarrel with you D. help you up
3. What will your friends say to you when you make great progress
A. Oh, so do I. B. Congratulations.
C. Good luck. D. It's just so - so.
4. Which idea is NOT right according to the passage
A. People who have cars would never like to walk in the open air.
B. You can get help from others when you make mistakes.
C. You can still be a happy person even if you have little money.
D. Happiness is always around you though difficulties come towards you.
5. Which of the following is this passage about
A. Bad luck. B. Good luck. C. Happiness. D. Life.
B
Happiness is important for everyone. Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few ways to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future, for example, getting into college or getting a good job, that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends usually live happier and healthier lives.
The second secret of happiness is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to do many meaningful things for other people. If you want to feel happier, do something nice for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an old neighbor, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.
1. The passage gives us ______ pieces of advice on happiness.

The secret of happiness is to spend around £2.50 every day on somebody else.
To give a couple of pounds each day rather than to spend it on treats and fashion for yourself is the key to happiness, according to a new study.
Dr Elizabeth Dunn and her colleagues who did a national survey of 630 people in the United States found that people report greater happiness if they spend money more socially. That means spending on gifts for others or on charitable (慈善的) donations rather than spending on themselves.
“We wanted to test our theory (理论) that how people spend their money is at least as important as how much money they earn,” says Dunn, who reports the work in Science.
The results from all three lines of research are quite the same.
“Regardless of how much income each person made,” says Dunn, “those who spent money on others reported greater happiness, while those who spent more on themselves did not.”
“Making a modest donation is enough to increase people's happiness,” Dunn says.
“These findings suggest that a very small change in spending, as little as £2.50, may be enough to produce real gains in happiness on a given day,” says Dr Dunn.

Do you want to be happier Well, you can do something about it. Some psychologists (心理学家) believe that 10% of your happiness is due to life conditions and 40% is the result of your own choices. Your own choices include how you manage your time at school, your relationships, your friends, your activities and your health. So you have a lot of control over how happy you feel.
Here are some tips on how to do that.
Surround yourself with positive (积极的) people. Spend time with positive people and your ideas will become active. On the other hand, good friends will encourage, support, and lift you up when you're down.
That's also true for the people that we work with.
Don't try to be perfect. Remember that nothing can ever be perfect. So don't think that just because you have made a mistake, things will fall apart. You can ask for help.
Don't give up easily. You may be faced with challenges. Some of them will be hard. But you should consider them as opportunities to grow. If you give up, you will never move forward.

八、书面表达
Dear Tom,
I'm so glad to receive your letter. You asked me about my opinion on happiness. Well, in my view, happiness is of great importance to everyone. It's like sunshine in our lives, making us energetic and positive.
Happiness has nothing to do with money. A person with a lot of money may not necessarily be happy, while a poor person can also live a happy life. For example, some people with simple lives but rich inner worlds are always satisfied and happy. They cherish what they have and find happiness in ordinary things.
In my opinion, happiness is a feeling of inner contentment. It comes from our love for life. As long as we have a positive attitude and善于发现身边的美好, we can always find happiness around us.
I hope you can find your own happiness and enjoy every moment of your life.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
