【答案】Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m writing to recommend creating a short video to showcase our school’s achievements.
This format combines dynamic visuals with concise narration, effectively capturing both campus facilities and academic accomplishments in an engaging way. Compared to photo exhibitions which lack motion and stage plays which require lengthy preparation, videos offer greater flexibility in editing and wider sharing potential. We can even add subtitles in the sister school’s language to enhance understanding.
This modern approach would leave a vivid impression while efficiently conveying key information.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】
The days that followed were filled with repairing and gardening. Emma and Jack helped clear weeds while I fixed the broken windows. My wife revived the vegetable patch, planting seeds with the children. Though our hands grew calloused, laughter filled the air. Gradually, the garden regained its magic—sunflower sprouts emerged where wildflowers once ruled. One afternoon, Jack discovered the old wooden swing buried under vines. As I repaired it, Emma’s excited chatter about butterflies reminded me of my childhood wonder. By harvest season, the cottage glowed with fresh paint, and the garden buzzed with bees visiting new blossoms.
In this unexpected return to my roots, I found a new strength and joy. Watching fireflies dance above the restored garden at dusk, I realized urban life had blinded me to nature’s healing rhythm. The children’s muddy smiles proved happiness needs no expensive toys. My unemployment, once a disaster, became a doorway to rediscover family bonds and life’s simple abundance. Now when city friends ask about our “escape,” I smile, remembering Grandfather’s wisdom: “Sometimes losing your way helps you find home.”

For some people, October is Octobear. On October 5, Katmai National Park and Preserve in southern Alaska kicked off Fat Bear Week, when fans compare before and after photos of bears to vote for the one they think has gained the most weight before they bed down for the long freezing winter. Bear 747, also known as “Bear Force One”, took the first-place spot with 68,105 votes. It weighed around 1,400 pounds.
Fat Bear Week started in 2014.At first it was just Fat Bear Tuesday. Mike Fitz, a former park keeper at Katmai, noticed that live webcams showing the bears generated a lot of online comments, so he let people vote for their favorite fat bear on the Internet. The one-day event attracted 1,700 votes. In 2015, it was extended to a week. Last year, nearly 800,000 people got involved, turning it into a global campaign.
The contest serves two main purposes. First, some of America’s national parks are in remote and undeveloped areas, which are difficult or costly to reach. Fat Bear Week brings Alaska’s wilderness to fans’ computer screens. “It’s not limited to the fortunate few who can go to the river anymore, ”Fitz said.
Second, Fat Bear Week brings attention to the bears and the ecosystems they live in. The 2,200 bears of Katmai are strong for feeding on some of the healthiest salmon(三文鱼)in the world, said Sara Wolman, a former park keeper. Salmon in the Pacific Northwest are suffering from overfishing, dam construction and warming rivers due to climate change. Luckily, Brooks River, which Katmai’s bears like to fish in, has been free from these threats so far.
Fat Bear Week has spread like viruses. Fans and creators say it’s because it shows a conservation success story. For one week, people don’t have to focus on climate change or habitat loss. “Maybe things aren’t super great all the time in the world,” said Felicia Jimenez, who is a current Katmai keeper. “But there are some really fat bears in Alaska.”
4. Why did Bear 747 become the winner of Fat Bear Week in southern Alaska
A. It gained the most pounds. B. It was the heaviest.
C. It presented the best photos. D. It was the most famous.
5. What is the purpose of paragraph 2
A. To show the popularity of fat bears. B. To review the history of the event.
C. To praise Mike Fitz for his work. D. To explain the role of live webcams.
6. What can we learn about Katmai’s bears
A. They bring tourists to the park. B. They face a population decline.
C. They remain difficult to be seen. D. They have a stable food source.
7. Which can be the best title for the text
A. Fat Bear Week: Conservation Is Joyful B. Brown Bears; Winter Survival Is Crucial
C. Bear 747: A Fat Yet Healthy Champion D. Katmai’s Bears: A Special Beauty Contest

One day I typed into ChatGPT all about my upset feelings and it instantly responded, offering a list of practical advice. Nowadays millions of people are already turning to Chat-GPT and specialist therapy (治疗) chatbots for convenient and inexpensive mental health support.
Some experts say this is a boon. After all, AI, undisturbed by embarrassment and burnout, might be able to express empathy (同理心) more openly and tirelessly than humans. But others worry about the consequences of people seeking emotional support from machines that can only pretend to care. Some even wonder if the rise of so-called empathetic AI might change the way we interact with one another. Indeed, empathy is one of our species’ defining qualities, developing as it did in pace with social interaction.
One recent analysis about empathy looked at 52 studies published between 1980and 2019, which shows that the empathiser must first be able to recognize how the other person is feeling. They must also be affected by those emotions and differentiate between themselves and the other person, grasping that the other person’s feelings aren’t their own while still being able to imagine their experience.
On the first point, in recent years, AI-powered chatbots have made progress in their ability to read human emotions, most powered by large language models (LLMs) that work by predicting which words are most likely to appear together based on training data. In this way, LLMs like ChatGPT can seemingly identify our feelings and respond appropriately most of the time. But when it comes to the other criteria, AI still misses the mark in many ways. Empathy is interpersonal, with continued feedback helping to perfect the empathiser’s response, which also requires some degree of intuitive (直觉的) awareness of an individual and their situation.
All of this helps to explain conversations like the ones I had with ChatGPT. At the end of the day, despite talking to multiple chat-bots online, I did what I knew I had to do all along: I picked up my phone and called a friend.
8. What does the underlined word “boon” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Trap. B. Prize. C. Blessing. D. Challenge.
9. What does the recent analysis show about empathy
A. It calls for clear communication. B. It starts with emotion identification.
C. It rules out individual difference. D. It depends on rich imagination.
10. What can AI do according to Paragraph 4
A. Provide data-driven feedback. B. Recognize one’s real desire.
C. Update large language models. D. Predict one’s behavior by intuition.
11. What does the author think of ChatGPT
A. Its development should be sped up. B. Its intelligence is winning more favor.
C. Its application should be strictly managed. D. Its artificial kindness is no match for humans’.
D
The rechargeable lithium-ion (锂离子) battery market is worth more than $50 billion. Lithium-ion batteries, whose demand continues to go up day by day, are used in a wide range of electronic devices. They are made of four main components, and cathode (阴极) is one of them. The cathode’s active material type is what determines the capacity of a battery.
A recent study, led by Wang Yan, a material scientist of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, finds that lithium-ion batteries made with recycled cathodes work better than those with new cathodes.
“The battery industry is expected to grow sharply in the next decade. This high demand has led companies to go to extremes, like increasing deep-sea mining, to gain access to the minerals used in lithium-ion batteries,” Wang said. “Mining minerals will have environmental impacts. Recycling spent lithium-ion batteries offers a way out.”
But until now, the prospect of using recycled materials in lithium-ion batteries has some manufacturers (制造商) worrying that it could impact performance. Thus, lithium-ion batteries are still not widely recycled. Aware of decreasing resources and environmental impact, Wang and other researchers set out to find a way to make recycling lithium-ion batteries economically practical. Through experiments, they could recover more than 90% of the key metals from spent batteries. These recovered metals became the basis of the new recycled battery’s cathode’s active material.
In tests between Wang’s team’s recycled batteries and brand-new batteries of the same composition, the recycled batteries outperform the new ones in their ability to maintain capacity. It took 11,600 charge cycles for recycled cathode batteries to lose 30 percent of their original capacity. That was about 50 percent better than the 7,600 observed cycles for new cathode batteries, the team reported. Those thousands of extra cycles could translate into years of better battery performance, even after repeated use and recharging.
12. What can we learn about lithium-ion batteries from the first paragraph
A. They are high in price.
B. They are in great demand.
C. They are limited in use.
D. They are simple in composition.
13. What does Wang mainly talk about in paragraph 3
A. The target users of recycled batteries.
B. The ways to get minerals for batteries.
C. The major reasons for recycling batteries.
D. The complex process of recycling batteries.
14. What are the manufacturers concerned about
A. Declining mineral resources.
B. Difficult recycling techniques.
C. Serious environmental problems.
D. Inefficient battery performance.
15. Which of the following details best supports the main idea of the text
A. The battery industry is going to develop dramatically.
B. Recycling batteries reduces impact on the environment.
C Scientists can recover key materials from spent batteries.
D. Recycled batteries outperform new ones in charging circles.

Returning to Roots
As the economic downturn cast a shadow my life also took an unexpected turn. The company I had worked for over a decade laid me off, leaving me frustrated with the high cost of urban living. It was time to leave and return to my roots—a rural farmhouse I had inherited from my grandfather.
Driving back to the countryside recalled a flood of memories—the country road, the wooden cottage, the back yard garden…Yes! The garden! As a child, that garden was a magical place for me, an oasis (绿洲) bursting with colors and life. The bright sunflowers, elegant lilies and a wooden swing had been my playground, where my imagination ran wild among the fluttering (飞舞的) butterflies. I can well remember the gardening time spent with my grandfather. I would follow him around with a small watering can, often more water landing on my shoes than on the thirsty plants. Those were moments of pure joy and laughter, echoed by the splash (水花) and my grandfather’s gentle laugh.
However, as we approached my heart sank. The house, once the Eden (伊甸园) of rural charm, stood neglected. Windows broken and faded paint falling off the walls, all filled with the unpleasant smell. I hesitated to take a step further. What would my loved oasis be like I dared not imagine.
In contrast, my children, Emma and Jack, were immediately attracted. With delight, they dashed into the house, exploring and playing just as I had at their age. When they opened the door of the back yard, something amazing happened. Through it lay the garden, untended and wild, yet undeniably beautiful. Overgrown with wildflowers and tall grasses, it had a purely natural beauty that seemed to be full of life The sight sparked an immediate reaction from my kids. They dashed into the garden, with infectious laughter echoing through the air.
Just then my wife came up, tapping my shoulder. “Nature always finds a way to start over, doesn’t it ” she said with a smile that warmed my heart. Her words, filled with wisdom and optimism, echoed around us, mixed with the chorus of rustling (沙沙声) leaves and birdsong.
注意: 1. 续写词数应 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The days that followed were filled with repairing and gardening.
