Almost everyone has a piggy bank (储蓄罐), but do you know why people often make it in the shape (形状) of a pig
Believe it or not, people made the piggy bank in the shape of a pig by mistake. In the Middle Ages, many containers (容器) at home were made of a kind of cheap clay (陶土) called pygg. 单词“pygg”听起来和“pig”一样。At that time, there weren’t banks like we have today, so people would save their money at home in some clay containers. Because the kind of clay was called pygg, people called the containers pygg banks. Over time this became piggy banks. After several hundred years, people forgot that the word “pygg” meant a kind of clay.
The English language also changed. People used the word “pig” more commonly. So when English workers were asked to make “piggy banks”, they thought they needed to make containers in the shape of pigs. Surprisingly (出人意料地), the pig-shaped containers were popular.
Today piggy banks are made of all kinds of things, and they also come in different shapes and animals. But people still call those cute containers for money “piggy banks”.

We live in a world where good health is usually related to a certain kind of appearance, but it doesn’t mean it is necessary for good health. How can you tell if you are healthy Here are some to look out for.
You eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full. This simple behavior is a symbol of healthy eating. “It sounds really silly, but many of us can’t do it,” said Geyer. Besides, you should eat a varied diet rich in whole foods. Natural food is much better than processed (加工的) food. What’s more, eating enough is very important.
Experts suggest 150 minutes of proper activities every week is good for our health, like quick walking. “Going quickly up two flights of stairs without stopping and feeling good suggests that your body can perform high intensity (高强度的) activity!”
You can face different kinds of emotions. Emotional health is as important as physical heat, and Geyer has a simple way of measuring (测量) it. “I think emotional well-being is facing various emotions and understanding that they’re all normal,” Geyer said. “And remember that no one of them is going to be permanent (长久的).”
You can wake up without an alarm clock. It is not surprising that not enough sleep is terrible for your health. Lack of (缺乏) sleep increases the risk of illness. That’s why it’s important to sleep for eight hours a night.
You have the energy to do the things you want to do. Geyer said that there was one word that kept coming to her mind when she thought of good health—energy. “Having the energy to do the things you want to do is usually a very good sign of good health,” she said.
Anyhow, remember that health is individualized (因人而异的). If you’re worried you’re not healthy or you’re just curious about where you stand, you can go to see your doctor.

Without the sun, no living things can live on the earth, including humans. The sun is important. It makes plants grow and produce food. It also can help your body get vitamin D, which makes you strong. However, after spending long hours in the sun, you may feel tired. Why does the sun make you feel tired
First, your body doesn’t want to heat up (升温), so it has to use lots of energy to cool itself down and remain its common temperature 37°C. If you feel too tired in the sun, you should take a break and cool down.
The second reason is short of water. When you stay in the sun for long, you will sweat (流汗) a lot, and your body will lose too much water. As a result, your blood becomes thicker, which makes it harder for your heart to send blood. And it means less O2, will be sent to your body. If your body doesn’t have O2 inside, you will feel even more tired.
Another reason-is sunburn (日晒), which is your skin’s reaction (皮肤的反应) to the UV in sunlight. As a form of protection, your skin turns red, but this is also tiring for your body.
Warming rays (光线) are good for you, but tiredness is your body’s way of telling you that it has enough sunlight in the day. So you should have a rest.
Do you know the sun very well
Advantage 1. All the living things live on the sun. 2. Human bodies get vitamin D from the sun.
Disadvantage The sun makes humans 45
46 1. The sun heats up humans’ bodies, but it takes much 47 to cool down, which makes humans tired. 2. The sun makes humans lose 48 by sweating, which causes the lack of O in the body, so humans feel tired. 3. The sun burns humans’ skin, and skin turns red to 49 itself, which is tiring for the body.
On November 7th, 2023, ESA’s Euclid (欧几里得) space telescope (望远镜) sent back its first full-colour pictures of the universe.
Last July, people sent Euclid into space. Its job is to find out how dark matter (物质) and dark energy (能量) have made our universe look the way it does today. 95% of our universe appears to be made of these “dark” things. But we still don’t understand what they are. However, Euclid is able to take a clear picture across a huge part of the sky. This time, Euclid sent back 5 pictures. One of them shows us the spiral galaxy (螺旋星系) IC 342. It is a look-alike of our Milky Way. Thanks to its infrared view (红外线视图), Euclid has already discovered very important information about the stars in this galaxy.
Euclid’s first full-colour pictures of the universe are not only beautiful, but also very helpful for scientists. They show that Euclid is working quite well and that scientists can use it to study the matters in the universe. In the coming months, scientists will study the pictures taken by Euclid, extract (提取) information from them and write many scientific papers.
What’s more, over the next six years, Euclid will take a close look at billions of galaxies 10 billion light years from us. By doing this, it will create the largest 3D map ever made. And the pictures by it will take us common people to a much farther universe. How large is it 这是无法想象的。

If you do not use your arms or legs for a long time, they become weak. When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. But many people do not know that memory (记忆力) works in the same way.
When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it a chance to become strong.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault (过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame (负责), and few of us know that it is just his own fault.
Have you ever noticed that some people who can’t read or write usually have better memories This is because they can’t read or write and they have to remember things with their mind—they can’t write them down in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so they are always exercising their memories.
So if you want to have a good memory, learn from those people: practice remembering.

After eight years, Kung Fu Panda is back! Kung Fu Panda 4 (《功夫熊猫4》) hit Chinese theaters on March 22. The movie takes us on an over 90-minute journey, telling us that the only sure thing in life is change.
The story still follows Po, the Dragon Warrior. He teams with a fox named Zhen to beat the Chameleon, a witch (巫师), and save a city under her control.
Embracing (拥抱) change is the theme in the character choice. In the old Kung Fu Panda movies, the great Furious Five (盖世五侠)—Tigress, Viper, Monkey, Mantis and Crane—always show up. But this time, they did not return, instead, Zhen and the Chameleon show up for the first time. What’s more, the Chameleon has the power to change its look into anyone it likes, matching perfectly with the movie’s theme of change.

At first, Po finds it hard to accept the change until he meets Zhen. Zhen used to be a thief, but she learns what’s fair and good after spending time with Po. In the end, both Po and Zhen find their true selves after embracing the changes in their identities.

During the Spring Festival holiday, 14-year-old Li Min watched Ne Zha five times and Ne Zha 2 once. “Ne Zha and I are similar—we both care what others think,” she said. Unlike traditional stories where Ne Zha is born a hero, this movie shows him starting as a lonely young demon (恶魔) . Through hard work, he changes his fate (命运) and wins people’s respect (尊重) .
The movie is breaking records. It has made over 15 billion yuan worldwide, becoming the first Chinese film to do this. “This is a historic moment,” said movie expert Lai Li. The film first opened in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea on February 8th, then came to the US and Canada the next day.
Why is it so popular Film expert Rao Shuguang says the secret is mixing old Chinese myths (神话) with modern ideas: For example, the film innovatively combines traditional magic tools like cosmic rings with dynamic animation techniques (电影创新地将宇宙环等传统魔术工具与动态动画技术相结合). However, Rao hopes future Chinese films will try more themes.
Overseas Chinese are excited, too. Lynn Wu, a Chinese mother in Australia shared, “We’re so proud! This movie’s beautiful art shows China’s creativity (创造力). All my friends are planning cinema trips. Many schools are using the film to teach. Students discuss how Ne Zha’s story related to (联系) their lives.”
“When I feel lonely, I remember Ne Zha never gives up,” said Li Hua. Teachers also organize drawing competitions (竞赛) about the movie’s traditional Chinese costumes (服饰) .
For those who can’t go to cinemas, the film’s website offers free coloring pages. Li Hua downloaded (下载) Ne Zha’s costume design and made her own notebook. “It’s fun to learn culture this way!” she said.
