W:Sure. Thanks.

W:Look how thin the mommy is—and she had a baby only six months old.
M:Yeah, my wife gets really depressed when she sees moms like that. She had our daughter two years ago and she still can't lose weight.
Text 3
W:I wanted to go to Spain in August but it's so expensive.
M:Well, summer is peak season, so it's the most expensive time. Why not go later in the year
Text 4
W:I'm hungry. Shall we go for a bite to eat
M:Sounds good.
W:And then how about going to see the new film
M:It's wonderful.
Text 5
W:Yesterday's lecture was excellent, right
M:The topic was interesting, but the lecture was much more difficult, and I couldn't follow it completely.
Text 6
W:Oh, no! Not again! This happens every day.
M:What's wrong
W:Look at the mess, Jim! You have your supper and never do the washing up afterwards.
M:I don't do the washing up but I wash the car every week.
W:I don't care about that. You never help me with the housework!
M:That's not true, darling. I prepare your meals, right
W:Oh! So what The kitchen's always a mess afterwards. You cook meals and I do the rest every day.
M:Calm down. OK, I will do everything in our house from next weekend.

M:I'd like to rent a bike for a day. How much does it cost
W:It's 20 dollars a day. A day is from 9:00 in the morning until 7:00 in the evening.
M:So, if I brought the bike back at 7:30, would I have to pay for an extra day
W:Yes, and there's a deposit to pay as well. It's 50 dollars. Then when you bring the bike back, we'll give you back the 50 dollars. But if you didn't bring the bike back before 7:00 pm, we'd keep the money, of course.
M:Well, you don't need to worry. I'll surely bring the bike back at 5:00. Do you have helmets, by the way
W:Of course. It's free to rent a helmet. Let's go and choose a bike and a helmet for you.

M:Hi, Tracy. You're getting ready for tomorrow's lessons, aren't you
W:Oh, yes, but I'm a bit nervous. I don't know what will happen in class or how I'll get along with my new classmates...
M:I can understand. Just take it easy. You'll make a lot of new friends very soon.
W:Thank you. I'll try my best to get used to my new school life as soon as possible. By the way, what time does the first class begin
M:At 8 o'clock. But before that we have 10 minutes to hand in homework and then 20 minutes for morning reading.
W:So we must get to school before 7:30, right
M:Right.
W:And how long does each class last
M:45 minutes, with a 10 minute break.
W:Well, I hear that lunchtime is nearly 12 o'clock and I think I'll be starving by then.
M:Don't worry. There's a 30 minute break after the second class, so we can buy something to eat. Or you may take some cookies and fruits to school.
W:That's good.
Text 9
W:Darling, I'm going to stop by Bergner's first, it's got some quality stuff. Who knows, some of their dresses might be on sale.

M:A Gucci handbag or Calvin Klein T shirt might be nice. Oh, I have a 15% discount card for Penny's. Let's go ahead and use it. Here it is.
W:It's wonderful. We can save some money for our home. Oh, no! I was supposed to give Helen a call an hour ago. It's already a quarter to five. I left my phone with her. She must be still waiting for my call.

Text 10
Hello. My name is John Williams. I'm an English teacher. And I have started a website to help you improve English listening and speaking skills as quickly as possible. My online English lessons take just 5 to 10 minutes each day to complete. And there are no advertisements to take your attention away. You can also download the sound files to your computer and exercise them and take your lessons again anytime. I've designed the online English course to be a very easy, cheap and quick way to improve your English speaking, listening and conversation skills. And also to improve your listening scores in English exams. Every day, you'll learn some new English vocabulary, idioms and phrasal verbs. And you'll feel more confident in working and making friends in English. You'll also learn correct English pronunciation. I always make sure my online English lessons are short, interesting and easy to remember. My idea of learning English is that it is best for you to learn a little each day and remember it clearly. This idea doesn't mean a new method, but instead it is a concept. I hope you can accept. Whether you're taking other English classes or not, and no matter what method you use, I can help you to achieve your English learning goals.
This kind of accommodation offers an independent lifestyle可知SelfCatering Accommodation能够为住宿者提供更多的自由,这与C项的叙述一致。
That is why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the former is warmer. Besides, water is usually warmer...
The hardest part was feeling guilty about...
最后一段的最后一句“Remember: little steps add up to big dreams.” Failure is the mother of success.“失败是成功之母。”; Little by little, one goes far.“千里之行,始于足下。”; Every coin has two sides.“凡事都有两面性。”; Well begun, half done.“好的开始是成功的一半。”
根据第二段提到Responsible for managing external contracts (对外承包) and relationships with local businesses and the local government offices.
It was my responsibility to plan the sales events and promotional campaigns, and produce evaluation reports on the efficacy of each campaign.
For the past 6 years I have been working as the regional promotions manager for a national chain of book stores. A big part of the job was communicating with both senior management and individual store managers to ensure that new product lines were appropriately supported and within budget targets.
36.D 从上一句中的the only way to find out what your teen knows is to stay open minded and let teens talk about...
37.B 从下一句Remind them often.
Talking about drugs and alcohol needs to be ongoing so that all aspects are explored thoroughly.
39.A 从上一句Allow for the possibility.
Teens get far too many double messages about drinking.
have an impact on对……
Bernie和他的CD来熬过(get through)我自己的癌症经历? learn from向……学习; go over检查,复习; refer to指的是,参考。
I lost my drive to write(我失去了写作的动力)可知,作者是一名作家(writer)。
47.A 由and前面的I was just too tired及常识可知当人很疲倦时,他的心情会很糟。 not in the mood心情不好。 position位置; state情形,状态; way方式。考生容易误选state,但state一般构成in a state of...结构。
48.D 联系本段开头的when I started going through chemo可知,作者是接受治疗(treatment)。
49.C 联系本句中的what I was reading和struck up a conversation可知,另一个病人应该是注意到(noticed)作者读的书了,然后才和作者聊天。
while当……
句型是最合适的,即:结果发现……come out结果是; work out解决; prove out证明。考生可能误选A项,注意It comes out that...
decide on决定; invest投资(一般不与on搭配); work on从事,忙于; rely on依赖。
put a smile on one's face是一个常用短语,意为“脸上绽放笑容”。
57.D 联系本句中的unfortunately和due to his cancer可知作者的这位病友因癌症去世了(passed away)。 show up出现; set off出发; fall down倒下,失败。
since自……以来; so因此; for因为。
59.D 联系后面的pick up my pen again和If he can do it, then so can I.可知这位病友给了作者鼓舞(inspiration)。

Nowadays Senior 3 students are faced with a lot of pressure, which is rather common. To reduce it, the suggestions may help. First of all, know exactly what to your pressure, and then you can take measures to deal with it. Secondly, set up a goal is not too high, in words, don't put too much pressure on yourself. Thirdly, find a way to relax occasionally, for example, you can listen to music, go or just simply go walking.
Eventually, make with others, for example, your classmates, your teachers, your parents. They will understand you and come to your help when you are really in
the
trouble. In a word, never get yourself stuck in the pressure for “impossible is nothing”.
Dear Editor,
I'm a student, I've been proud of Gucha, an old temple in my village. It's a cultural relic with a long history, which makes it so famous that many tourists visit it every year.
But now I feel worried about it. Though much money is brought in, part of it has been badly destroyed. Worse still, some people in my village want to pull it down and build a new factory where the old temple is. It represents the past of my village, so it should be protected well.
The number of the visitors should be limited to protect the old temple. Also, a website should be built where people can look at the pictures of the temple without destroying its beauty. As for the factory, it should be built in some other places. Do you think so
I'm looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,

Homestay provides English language students with the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of a British home.
What to Expect
The host will provide accommodation and meals. Rooms will be cleaned and bedcovers changed at least once a week. You will be given the house key and the host is there to offer help and advice as well as to take an interest in your physical and mental health.
Accommodation Zones
Homestays are located in London mainly in Zones 2, 3 and 4 of the transport system. Most hosts do not live in the town centre as much of central London is commercial and not residential. Zones 3 and 4 often offer larger accommodation in a less crowded area. It is very convenient to travel in London by underground.
Meal Plans Available
◆Continental Breakfast
◆Breakfast and Dinner
◆Breakfast Packed Lunch and Dinner
It's important to note that few English families still provide a traditional cooked breakfast. Your accommodation includes Continental Breakfast which normally consists of fruit juice, cereal, bread and tea or coffee. Cheese, fruit and cold meat are not normally part of a Continental Breakfast in England. Dinners usually consist of meat or fish with vegetables followed by dessert, fruit and coffee.
Friends
If you wish to invite a friend over to visit, you must first ask your host's permission. You have no right to entertain friends in a family home as some families feel it is an invasion of their privacy.
SelfCatering Accommodation in Private Homes
Accommodation on a room only basis includes shared kitchen and bathroom facilities and often a main living room. This kind of accommodation offers an independent lifestyle and is more suitable for the longstay student. However, it does not provide the same family atmosphere as an ordinary homestay and may not benefit those who need to practise English at home quite as much.

24.Why do some people choose selfcatering accommodation

When I was nine years old, I loved to go fishing with my dad. But the only thing that wasn't very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I couldn't catch anything. I usually got pretty upset and kept asking him why. He always answered, “Son, if you want to catch a fish, you have to think like a fish”, I remember being even more upset then because, “I'm not a fish!” I didn't know how to think like a fish. Besides, I reasoned, how could what I think influence what a fish does
As I got a little older I began to understand what my dad really meant. So, I read some books on fish. And I even joined the local fishing club and started attending the monthly meetings. I learned that a fish is a cold blooded animal and therefore is very sensitive to water temperature. That is why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the former is warmer. Besides, water is usually warmer in direct sunlight than in the shade. Yet, fish don't have any eyelids (眼皮) and the sun huts their eyes...The more I understood fish, the more I became effective at finding and catching them...
When I grew up and entered the business world, I remember hearing my first boss say, “We all need to think like sales people.” But it didn't completely make sense. My dad never once said, “If you want to catch a fish you need to think like a fisherman.” What he said was, “You need to think like a fish.” Years later, with great efforts to promote long term services to people much older and richer than me, I gradually learned what we all need is to think more like customers. It is not an easy job. I will show you how in the following chapters.

A.He could not catch a fish.
B.His father was not patient with him.

27.According to the author, fish are most likely to be found .
A.in deep water on sunny days B.in deep water on cloudy days
C.in shallow water under sunlight D.in shallow water under waterside trees
28.This passage most likely comes from .
A.a fishing guide B.a popular sales book
C.a novel on childhood D.a millionaire's biography
C
In the fall of 1985, I was a bright eyed girl heading off to Howard University, aiming at a legal career and dreaming of sitting on a Supreme Court bench somewhere. Twenty one years later I am still a bright eyed dreamer and one with quite a different tale to tell.
My grandma, an amazing woman, graduated from college at the age of 65. She was the first in our family to reach that goal. But one year after I started college, she developed cancer. I made the choice to withdraw from college to care for her. It meant that school and my personal dream would have to wait.
Then I got married with another dream: building my family with a combination of adopted and biological children. In 1999, we adopted our first son. To lay eyes on him was fantastic—and very emotional. A year later came our second adopted boy. Then followed son No.3. In 2003, I gave birth to another boy.
You can imagine how fully occupied I became, raising four boys under the age of 8! Our home was a complete zoo—a joyous zoo. Not surprising, I never did make it back to college fulltime. But I never gave up on the dream either. I had only one choice: to find a way. That meant taking as few as one class each semester.
The hardest part was feeling guilty about the time I spent away from the boys. They often wanted me to stay home with them. There certainly were times I wanted to quit, but I knew I should set an example for them to follow through the rest of their lives.
In 2007, I graduated from the University of North Carolina. It took me over 21 years to get my college degree!
I am not special, just single minded. It always struck me that when you're looking at a big challenge from the outside it looks huge, but when you're in the midst of it, it just seems normal. Everything you want won't arrive in your life on one day. It's a process. Remember: little steps add up to big dreams.
29.Why did the author quit school in her second year of college
A.She suffered from a serious illness.
B.She decided to look after her grandma.
C.She wanted to study by herself.
D.She fell in love and got married.
30.What can we learn about the author from Paragraphs 4 and 5
A.She wanted to remain a fulltime housewife.
B.She was too confused to make a correct choice.
C.She was busy yet happy with her family life.
D.She ignored her guilty feeling for her sons.
31.What does the author mostly want to tell us in the last paragraph
A.Every coin has two sides. B.Well begun, half done.
C.Failure is the mother of success. D.Little by little, one goes far.
32.Which of the following can best describe the author
A.Ambitious and sensitive. B.Innocent and singleminded.
C.Caring and determined. D.Honest and responsible.

Marko Cerise
Human Relations Manager
Global Architecture Associates
Dear Mr Cerise,
I read your job advertisement in Professional Monthly and believe that I am well suited to fill the position.
For the past 6 years I have been working as the regional promotions manager for a national chain of book stores. In this position, I was responsible for supervising a team of six promotions and marketing staff. It was my responsibility to plan the sales events and promotional campaigns, and produce evaluation reports on the efficacy of each campaign. The position involved regular visits to each of the nine branches in the area, so I am used to spending a significant part of my working week on the road.
A big part of the job was communicating with both senior management and individual store managers to ensure that new product lines were appropriately supported and within budget targets. I have found working in this position to be very rewarding but I feel I am ready for a change and look forward to facing new challenges.
In respect to my current position, I would be willing to start within one month of receiving a job offer.
For further employment and educational details please see the accompanying resum.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Danker

How to talk to teens about drinking
Teen's drinking is always a hot topic. There's no doubt that it's not good for teens to drink, but how do parents discuss the problem with their kids There're some tips below.
●Find out what your teen knows. Many teenagers believe they can't talk to their parents about drinking or drugs because their parents immediately start with the lecture. Teens are curious about adult things and the only way to find out what your teen knows is to stay open minded and let teens talk about concerns and ideas as they come up. 36
●Give “call me” instructions. Your child needs to be told specifically that he can call you no matter what happens. 37 Remind them often.
●Keep the conversation going. 38 Talking about drugs and alcohol needs to be ongoing so that all aspects are explored thoroughly. When having discussions, listen to your teen's point of view. When sharing what you think, try hard not to lecture.
●Allow for the possibility. 39 By paying attention to the clues you're getting and asking your child what he/she thinks, you'll be aware of his/her decision making process. That way, you can handle your concerns before experimentation turns into a problem of habitual use or addiction.
●Watch for double messages. Teens get far too many double messages about drinking. 40 Teens hate it when they see their parents drunk or using drugs. If you come home from work and say, “I really need a drink,” you're sending the message that alcohol is the way to handle stress and problems.
A.Allowing for the possibility that your teen might drink lets you employ realistic preventative measures.
B.Tell him over and over.
C.Education about drinking does not start and end with one conversation.
D.Thus, you find out what they are thinking and doing.
E.Tell your teen that it's OK to never drink.
F.They don't need double messages from their parents, either.
G.One reason kids drink is to beat boredom.
