The important event that I can remember well was the opening of 2008 Olympic Games. It happened in Beijing on August 8, 2008. This was an important event in Chinese history.
When the opening began, my parents and I were having dinner. We finished it quickly, then we sat in front of the TV to watch it. It was great.
The 2008 Olympic Games was very important for the Chinese. Because it was the first time for China to have the Olympic Games. We won the most gold medals. It showed that our country was becoming stronger and stronger.

过去进行时
1. 概念: 表示过去某个时刻或过去一段时间正在进行的动作。
2. 句子结构: 主语 + was/were + doing sth. + 时间状语
3. 时间状语词: at 5:00 yesterday afternoon, at that time, then 等连用, 或者用另一动作来表示过去的时间。如:
They were playing basketball when she arrived.
While they were playing basketball, she arrived.
过去进行时和一般过去时的区别
过去进行时着重描述当时正在持续进行的动作,它的特点是:暂时,持续和未完成,强调过程;一般过去时表示发生过的动作或存在的状态,即表示动作发生过,而且已经结束了,强调结果。
过去进行时侧重表示动作延长的时间长度; 一般过去时表示过去某时发生过某事,侧重说明事实。
