When I was a child, I watched my grandma turn paper into flowers, trees, humans, animals and almost anything else. She has magic hands. Her works are lively and beautiful.
Later Grandma gave me a pair of scissors and taught me to make different paper-cuts. We make paper-cuts with red paper to welcome the Chinese New Year. We put them on the walls and windows. We hope they
bring us good luck and happiness in the coming year.

(1) watch sb. do sth. 观看某人做某事
e.g. I often watch my brother play basketball after school.
我经常看弟弟放学后打篮球。

watch sb. do sth. 意为“观看某人做某事”,强调观看动作发生的全过程或经常观看某动作。 I watched her go out of the room.
我看着她走出了房间。
I often watch Gina play the piano.
我经常观看吉娜弹钢琴。
watch sb. doing sth. 意为“观看某人正在做某事”,强调观看正在进行的动作。 I am watching Gina playing the piano.
我正在观看吉娜弹钢琴。
【辨】watch sb. do sth.与watch sb. doing sth.
【拓】与watch的这一用法类似的词还有see、hear等。
(2)“turn...into...” 是一个动词短语,表示 “把…… 变成……”。“turn” 后面接要被转变的事物,“into” 后面接转变后的结果,可以用于描述实际物体的转变,也可以用于抽象概念的变化。
e.g. We can turn waste into treasure. 我们可以把废物变成宝物。

②形容词或else修饰anything等复合不定代词时,要后置。

(3) anything / eniθ / pron. 任何东西,任何事物
①复合不定代词,常用于否定句或疑问句中。其作主语时,谓语动词要用单数形式。
e.g. I’m sick and I don’t want to eat anything. 我生病了,什么都不想吃。
(4) else /els/ adv. 别的;其他的;另外的
【辨】 else 与 other
两者都可表示“其他的;别的”,具体区别如下:
else 副词 常用于 who、what、where 等疑问词或something、nothing等复合不定代词之后。
other 形容词或代词 other作形容词修饰名词时,用于名词前。
e.g. I couldn’t imagine what else he has to say. Everyone knows that’s a lie. 我无法想象他还会说些什么,所有人都知道那是一个谎言。

a pair of scissors 一把剪刀
a pair of 意为“一双/副/把……”,后加名词复数。
①“a pair of+复数名词”作主语时,谓语动词要与pair 保持一致,用单数形式。其中不定冠词a可换成 this、that等。
e.g. This pair of shoes is nice. 这双鞋很好看。
②“...pairs of +复数名词”表示“……双/对……”,作主语时,谓语动词要与pairs 保持一致,用复数形式。
e.g. Two pairs of gloves are on the table. 桌子上有两副手套。
