It is a pity that deaf people, or those who have hearing problems, can’t enjoy music. But now a vibrating suit (振动服) brings them hope—it can let them “feel” music through their body, rather than hear it.
The special suit is able to change music into some vibrating pulses (节拍). And the users can choose different levels.
Chase Burton, 33, a deaf film-maker from Texas, US, tested out the suit for four years. He understands that a deaf person’s experience with music is very different. “When I was a kid, I’d lie on the floor so I could feel the vibrations from my brother’s music playing.” Burton told CNN. Now when he wears the vibrating suit, he says the sound hits different parts of his body. “Maybe it will shake me strongly in my knees first. And then I’ll start to feel the vibrations in my back. And then I’ll feel some pulsations,” Burton said.
The inventor worked on helping a large number of deaf people to have a chance of a musical experience. In 2016, some prototype (样品) suits were tested at a Lady Gaga concert in the US. The suit was also tested at a different concert in Las Vegas in 2019. It was given to 150 audiences (听众) at the concert, where half the audience members were deaf and half could hear. At the same time, the company improved the technology (科技) and planned to put it into the market soon. And the final goal of the company is to make the technology available to all.
“We think anything that has an audio element (听觉元素) can also have a vibrational experience along with it as well,” the company’s talent and business development director, Jordan Richardson, told CNN.

A scientist named Charles had a strange idea. He wanted to invent a new kind of car which could go without a driver. It could also be used as a living room. That means you can go anywhere on your sofa in the car. You might say that it’s impossible. But Charles succeeded in making it in a factory and named it Tridika.
Tridika has no wheels and it starts working when it reaches the magnetic levitation tracks (磁悬浮轨道). It takes its energy from its tracks. And it works in the same ways as a magnetic train. It moves very fast. As everyone knows, cities are developing rapidly. There are more and more cars running on the road. So parking (停车) space is limited. Sometimes it’s hard to find a place to park. Tridika can solve this problem easily because it needn’t park on the ground. Actually, it can park on the outside wall of the building with the help of an elevator system (电梯系统). In this way, much parking space can be saved. When Tridika parks itself in front of your apartment, you can get into your room directly. Of course, there must be a side door in the outside wall. Then Tridika becomes another living room. It’s really amazing, isn’t it
Tridika can hold six passengers. So you can go on vacation in it with your family in your free time. Of course it can also be used as an office while you are travelling on the road. That is to say you can travel and work at the same time.

3-D food will be both delicious and nutritious (有营养的). We can use 3-D printers to print some basic materials. ① And we can go further. Scientists believe that we just need to turn on a printer in the kitchen and then we can enjoy our favourite food whenever we like.
② 5G network will allow many more people to get information. Big companies like China Mobile and China Unicom will start to offer 5G. It is said that promises download speeds 10 to 20 times faster than 4G. For example, we can download a film within just 1 second. But with a 4G network, it takes a few minutes. There will be much bandwidth (带宽) and we can get unlimited (无限的) information.

AI (artificial intelligence) (人工智能) is a new field of computer science. It allows machines to learn from experience, make decisions and solve problems like humans.
Today you can find a lot of Al examples in our everyday life. You use AI facial recognition (脸识别) to unlock your phone. Self-driving cars use it to drive. Shopping apps use it to provide you with information according to your interest. Perhaps the best example is the smart assistant on your phone. It can support you when you make voice calls, add events to the calendar, and send messages. All in all, AI is everywhere.

Type in “Can a cat go to space ” and ask ChatGPT to write a bedtime story. Just one second later, you’ll get the story of Max, who made his way past many difficulties to sing among the stars.
ChatGPT is developed by US company OpenAI. And it has won 100 million users since it came out in November 2022. People can ask the robot to write stories and emails, translate languages and answer all kinds of questions. ChatGPT uses a much bigger database (数据库) for training than Siri or other chat robots. It also uses stronger software and hardware to learn things by itself. “It’s a totally different thing,” computer scientist Liu Xiaoguang from Nankai University told Tianjin Daily. “The knowledge level of ChatGPT is similar to that of a university graduate (毕业生). That’s why it shocked the world.”
According to a US survey, over 89 percent of students have used ChatGPT to help with homework. Some schools in the US, Australia and France have stopped the use of ChatGPT. There are some worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat on schoolwork. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread wrong information. “It does not build critical-thinking (批判性思维) and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for students’development,” said Jenna Lyle from New York City Department of Education.
However, not all educators say “no” to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are making rules on its use, for both students and teachers. They have no plans to completely stop the tool. Bhaskar Vira, from the University of Cambridge in the UK, thinks that it is not good to stop AI software like ChatGPT. “We have to know that AI is a tool people will use,” he added.

Photographs are everywhere. They decorate the walls of homes and are used in stores for sales of different goods. The news is often filled with pictures of fires, floods, and special events. Photos record the beauty of nature. They can also bring things close that are far away. Through photos, people can see wild animals, cities in foreign lands, and even the stars in outer space. Photos also tell stories.
Reporting the news through photos is called photojournalism. At times photojournalists tell their stories through a single picture. At other times, they use a group of pictures to tell a story. Each picture is like a chapter in a book, which can do more than record the facts. It can also be a strong force for social change.
Jacob Riis was among the first photojournalists. He took pictures of parts of New York City where the poor lived. Riis believed that poverty (贫穷) caused crime, and he used photos to help him prove his point. A few years later, the photos of small children working in factories by Lewis Hine shocked the public. Hine’s pictures helped bring about laws to protect such children.
Hundreds of pictures may have to be taken in order to get one or two really good photos. It takes science to have the photo come out clearly and art to make a photo that has a good design and expresses feelings. Photojournalists make anactual record of what they see. A photo, however, can be both a work of art and an actual record. It can record an important event as a beautiful or exciting picture.
As historical and artistic documents (文献), photos can become more important over time. Today photojournalists still have their pictures appear in newspapers and magazines. They also publish them in books and on the Internet.

33.The photos of the small children by Hine show us that photos ________.

34.What can we learn from the passage
A.News with pictures is encouraging.
B.Photos can’t help people improve their life.
C.News photos mean history in a sense.
D.People prefer reading news with pictures.

Eduardo reached into his backpack, searching for his mobile phone. He was tired of Aunt Letty spending all day on her chickens, goats, horses, and cows. Worse, he was afraid of having to spend the spring vacation on Aunt Letty’s farm.
Although he disagreed, his parents decided that spending time on the farm would be a great experience for him. They grew up on a farm and believed that responsibility (责任), hard work, and respect for the land were valuable lessons.
“So, have you ever ridden a horse ” Aunt Letty asked, trying to turn his attention away from his phone. “Hmmm, no.” he answered. “Well, we’ve got a nice horse I think you’ll like.” she said, smiling.
Eduardo was unhappy that he had to work. Vacations were meant for sleeping late, playing video games, and maybe skateboarding. Without lifting his head, he tried to text a friend.

Aunt Letty held her hand open for Eduardo to take. Unwillingly (不情愿地), he let her guide his hand towards Hercules and allowed the big animal to touch his hand. Softly, Hercules rubbed its nose and mouth against him.
