I am Benjamin Lou, Chinese name Lou Yingen, who is a 20-year-old Chinese-American mathematician living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy(SMA) (脊髓性肌萎缩症), and now I am studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.
Although I’ve never taken a physical step on this planet, I can fly in the space of math and physics freely.
Diagnosed with SMA, I have had no ability to walk, eat, or use the restroom without help since I was a baby. But these things can’t prevent me from getting unlimited freedom in the areas of math and physics.
When I was a 4th grader, I became interested in math and learned about calculus (微积分). By the 5th grade, I scored in the top one percent on the AMC 10, a competition aimed at high school sophomores In the 8th and the 9th grades, I qualified (取得资格) for the USA Mathematics Olympiad, being among the top 250 young mathematicians in the nation. A similar qualification for the USA Physics Olympiad soon followed. My love for the mathematical sciences led me to MIT in the end, where I major in physics and math.
It is clear to me that math isn’t only about numbers. It’s actually the language of the universe, a beautiful way to describe the logical patterns (逻辑模式) that exist in everything around us. And it is this same language that has allowed me to transcend the physical limitations (限制) of my body. As time goes by, even as my muscles weakened, my interest in understanding the world has only deepened. If I can understand the language of the universe, why should I worry about my physical disability

Henry Hudson was probably born in or near the city of London sometime between 1560 and 1570. At the time many countries and companies were looking for a new way to India. Spices (香料) from India were popular in Europe, but were very expensive to transport. Ships had to travel all the way around Africa, with all kinds of dangers on the way. Many ships turned over in the sea or were stopped by local African people. If someone could find a better way, they would be rich.
Henry Hudson wanted to find a northern way to India. Starting in 1607, Henry headed up four different teams looking for the northern way to India. Henry set sail on his first journey in May of 1607. His boat was called the Hopewell and his sailors included his 16-year-old son John. He sailed north and reached an island called Spitsbergen. At Spitsbergen he found a place full of whales. They kept going north until they ran into ice. Hudson searched for over two months to find a way through the ice, but in the end had to turn back. In 1608 Hudson once again took the Hopewell out to sea. However, once again he was stopped by ice.
Hudson’s first two journeys had been supported by the Muscovy Company. However, they now lost hope of finding a northern way to India. Hudson went to Dutch and soon had another ship called the Half Moon supported by the Dutch East India Company. They told Hudson to try to find a way around Russia. But Hudson ended up taking a different way and arrived in North America. On his fourth journey, his sailors didn’t have enough to eat and Hudson didn’t treat them well. Finally, the sailors put him into a small boat and left him at sea. No one is sure what happened to Henry Hudson, but he was never heard from again.

Throughout its 46-year history, the Pritzker Prize has often been won by architects (建筑师) who leave their mark on the world with their unique (独一无二的) styles. This year, however, the prize has gone to a man who avoids having a unique style.
Liu Jiakun, 68, became the second winner from China to win the highest honor in architecture on March 4. 2025
Living in Chengdu, Liu has worked for 40 years on over 30 projects. He started his own company–Jiakun Architects–in 1999 and has completed different projects, from small, beautiful museums to large commercial (商业的) buildings and public spaces.
Instead of sticking to a single building method, Liu aims to include local culture into his projects and uses “low-tech” simplicity (简朴) to create beauty.
Liu is most celebrated for the “rebirth bricks (再生砖)” he created after the deadly Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. To help with rebuilding, Liu made bricks using the rubble (瓦砾) left from fallen buildings. These bricks were later used in several of his projects, including the Shuijingfang Museum in Chengdu and the Novartis Building in Shanghai.
Besides putting architecture into the local environment, Liu’s works are also human-centered. His focus on ordinary (普通的) people is reflected in his largest project, West Village, a five-story urban complex (建筑群) completed in 2015 in Chengdu. The complex includes a soccer field, a market and roads for people to walk or ride bikes on. “I think of it like a big Sichuan hotpot, mixing every part of city life,” Liu told The Guardian. It has become a popular place for people to relax and have fun.
“The purpose of architecture is to create a beautiful, just and dignified (有尊严的) living environment. People’s real lives, happiness and dignity are what we work for,” Liu told China Daily.

A.Building skyscrapers in big cities.
B.Creating unique styles to impress people.
C.Mixing local culture and simplicity to serve ordinary people.

A.To make his buildings look more beautiful.
B.To reuse materials and help rebuild communities.

A.Buildings should be tall and expensive.

These days, many people don’t know their neighbors. Sometimes we share a friendly smile or say hello, but lots of people don’t even know their neighbors’ names! When you don’t know a person, it’s easy to be angry when something has happened that you think is unfair. You think, “Maybe they like to make me angry” or “Maybe they do it on purpose”. Believe it or not, your neighbors probably don’t mean to irritate (激怒) you. Often, they don’t even know that they’re making you feel angry. So before you take unusual steps to solve the problem, you should discuss it with them first.
When you move towards your neighbors, you should talk to them in a friendly manner. Praise their children to make them feel good. Then explain the situation. And if you can think of a simple way to solve the problem, suggest it.
If talking doesn’t work, ask another person to help. This person can listen to both sides of the story and help you and your neighbor solve the situation.
Finally, sometimes it’s a good idea to avoid the problem. Depending on the problem, it might be best to just stay out of your neighbor’s way.

Before you make friends, you have to decide who you want to be your friends. Most people like to have friends who like to do the same kinds of things as they do. That doesn’t mean you have to be exactly like each other, just that you enjoy some of the same things. If you’re really into sports, you probably will want friends who enjoy playing many of the same games you do. Likewise (同样地), if you love to read books, you will probably enjoy the company of readers.
The quickest way to make a friend is to smile. When you smile, people think you are friendly and easy to talk to. It may not be easy at first to smile, but remember most people will stay away from a scared (害怕的) or angry-looking face.
One easy way to start a conversation with someone is to say something nice about them. Think about how great you feel when someone says something nice to you. Doesn’t it make you want to keep talking to that person Ask your new friends questions about themselves. Who’s their favorite singer, where do they live, what do they do after school are all good questions to start a conversation. Make sure you have something to add to the conversation too. When someone asks you a question, do have an answer for them. There’s nothing that will stop a conversation quicker than a shrug (耸肩) for an answer.
Kids who show an interest in other kids and who are kind and friendly make good friends. Remember, everyone wants to be around people who like to do similar things and people who are nice to them.

Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does something about it. It is true. People usually begin their talks with “Isn’t it a nice day ” “Do you think it will rain ” “What a fine day!” Many people think they can tell what the weather is going to be like. But they hardly agree with each other. One man may say, “Do you see how cloudy it is in the east It’s going to rain tomorrow.” Another man will say, “No, it’s going to be still cloudy.” Another man will say, “No, it’s going to be fine tomorrow.”
People often look for the weather they want. When a farmer needs water, he looks for something to tell him it’s going to rain; he won’t believe anything else. When friends have a travel, they are sure the weather is going to clear up very quickly.
Almost everyone listens to what the weatherman says. But he doesn’t always tell us what we want, and once in a while he makes a mistake. Still, he probably comes closer to being correct than anyone else.

You’ve heard of spaceships, but have you heard of a space balloon A company called Space Perspective is planning to use its new balloon, called Spaceship Neptune, to take tourists on a trip to the edge (边缘) of space.
Although the balloon won’t completely enter space, this won’t matter much to the tourists.
That’s because at 20 miles above the earth, they will feel like they’re in space.
The balloon uses hydrogen (氢气). Hydrogen is lighter than the air so the balloon can go up. The balloon can come to a stop about 20 miles above the earth, because here the air is no longer heavier than the hydrogen inside the balloon. The company has tested Neptune without tourists and will take its first paying clients in 2024. Of course, the tickets are expens ve. The trip will take up to eight tourists two hours to travel up there, two hours to enjoy the stay and two hours to travel back. The five-metre-wide tourists’ room is below the balloon. It has special windows and they can stop tourists getting too hot from the sunlight. The tourists will be able to enjoy food and drinks there while enjoying the trip.

Is your mobile phone directory full of phone numbers of people you don’t really want to talk to Do you go out with people from work or school more often than with your real friends Do you say “yes” to invitations because you think you should, not because you want to If you answered “yes” to at least two of these questions, then perhaps you need to “edit your friends”.
Nowadays people like to spend a lot of time with people at work or classmates at school. The result is that we don’t have enough time to see our real, close friends. As our lives get busier, it becomes more important to spend the little free time we have with people we really want to see, people we love and who really love us.
Who are the friends you need to edit A few years ago, I read a book about how to get rid of unnecessary possessions (物品). It said you should ask yourself about each thing you have: Is it useful Do I like it Do I feel better every time I look at it If the answer is no to any of those questions, you should throw it away. Maybe we should ask similar questions about our friends. What kind of friends will you probably need to edit Sometimes it’s an old friend. Somebody who you used to have a lot in common with, but who, when you meet now, you have very little or nothing to say to. Or it might be a new friend who you get on quite well with, but who is taking up too much of your time. Next time one of these people calls you and suggests a meeting, think “Do I really want to see this person ” and if the answer is no, say no, and make an excuse. In that way you’ll have more time to spend with your real friends.
84.When do people need to edit their friends

B.Most of our friends are not necessary at all.
C.We shouldn’t treat our friends as possessions.
D.We should ask ourselves who our real friends are.
Anger is a common and healthy human feeling. But when it gets out of control, it can cause problems: problems at work, in your personal relationships and in your family life. Everyone gets angry sometimes. Although being angry is natural, what you do when you feel angry is important. This is difficult for kids and even for adults, too. These ideas may be useful to solve the problem which is troubling you.
First, exercise can be good for people who are trying not to lose their tempers (脾气) because it’s a way of releasing (释放) energy and stress. For example, you will feel good to dance around your room with your favorite music!
Second, get into the habit of saying how you’re feeling and why. If you’re having trouble with your temper, talk with your parents or friends and tell them what you’re trying to do. Words help you show your feelings and receive understanding from others.
Third, breathe deeply and repeat a calm word or phrase slowly, such as “relax” or “take it easy” to yourself while breathing.
Besides, you’d better think of people and things you are thankful for because you can’t be angry and thankful at the same time.
Being angry is never a reason for giving up your work or influencing (影响) the people around you.
Remember: life will always be filled with pain, frustration (沮丧) and some other unexpected trouble. You can’t change that, but you can change your way to face that. Learning to control your angry responses (反应) can help you stay away from being even unhappier. As fast as possible!

根据“Nowadays people like to spend a lot of time with people at work or classmates at school. The result is that we don’t have enough time to see our real, close friends. As our lives get busier, it becomes more important to spend the little free time we have with people we really want to see, people we love and who really love us.”
故选A。

根据“Anger is a common and healthy human feeling. But when it gets out of control, it can cause problems”可知,前面提到了愤怒是一种常见且健康的人类情感,后面说当它失去控制时会引发问题,所以“it”指代的是“Being angry”。故选A。
根据“Third, breathe deeply and repeat a calm word or phrase slowly, such as ‘relax’ or ‘take it easy’ to yourself while breathing.”可知,文中说的是重复平静的词或短语,而不是“Repeating ‘I’m the best.’ to yourself’”,所以C选项不能做。故选C。
根据“First, exercise can be good for people who are trying not to lose their tempers...”“Second, get into the habit of saying how you’re feeling and why...”“Third, breathe deeply and repeat a calm word or phrase slowly...”“Besides, you’d better think of people and things you are thankful for...”
所以文章主要讲的是“How To Deal With Anger”,B选项符合文章主旨。故选B。
