The Yangtze River is over 6,300 kilometers long and is the longest river in China. Together with the Yellow River, it is the cradle of Chinese civilization.
The river runs across China. It starts from the Tanggula Mountains on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and finally runs to the East China Sea. People began to live in the Yangtze River area as early as 2 million years ago. The famous Sanxingdui Culture grew up near the river. Known as the Golden Waterway, it is also the main waterway between the east and the west of China. Along the river, there are many major cities like Wuhan, Nanjing and Shanghai and mountains like Mount Lu and Tianmen Mountains.
