The teenage years are marked by intense changes — physical, social, emotional, and developmental — that can be difficult to deal with at times. 1 As you grow older, conflicts with family often increase, mainly due to the desire for more independence. Peer (同龄人) pressure also plays a major role, as teenagers are more likely to be influenced by friends while testing boundaries and seeking autonomy.
Conflicts during this time can also arise from the intensity of your emotions and your evolving ability to think abstractly. As you work on forming your individual identity, you may become more focused on the world around you, trying to make sense of your own feelings and form opinions on various issues. 2 As your outlook changes, these struggles may make it more difficult to navigate relationships with family and cope with peer pressure.
While conflicts are a natural part of this stage of life, there are ways to manage and resolve them productively. 3 By expressing your thoughts and feelings clearly, you can prevent misunderstandings and build mutual respect. Equally important is active listening — understanding others’ outlook can help you find common ground and reach a resolution.
4 Staying calm allows you to think more clearly and avoid worsening emotions. Techniques such as deep breathing or temporarily stepping away from the situation can help manage intense feelings. Additionally, turning to trusted adults or peers who have faced similar challenges can help you gain practical strategies for managing emotions.
While conflicts are a normal part of growing up, they can also be opportunities for personal development and self-discovery. 5
A.Emotional regulation is also essential.
B.The most effective strategy is communication.
C.These conflicts are caused by misunderstandings.
D.With so much going on, it’s no surprise conflicts often arise.
E.This process can lead to internal and external struggles as you grow.
F.Take it positively, and you can resolve conflicts and boost your growth.
G.Recognizing the signs helps you become more aware next time a conflict emerges.

How to Use Your Inner Voice
We all have an inner voice, and while it can be supportive, it can also become overly critical. The good news: 1 Here are three science-backed strategies to refine (改善) your inner dialogue, inspired by the groundbreaking work of psychologist Ethan Kross.
Distancing Ourselves from Negative Thoughts
2 Kross’s research on self-distancing offers a powerful solution. By referring to yourself in the third person or using your own name, you create psychological distance which reduces emotional reactivity. For instance, instead of thinking, “I’m failing”, try telling yourself, “[Add Your Name], you’re learning through this challenge.” This simple shift can help you approach problems with clarity and objectivity.
Inner Coach vs. Inner Critic
3 It helps us plan, solve problems, and motivate ourselves. But it can also make us more anxious and hurt our relationships. Kross recommends that we should make the most of its good points while keeping its bad ones in check. When you’re faced with self-criticism, try shifting to your inner coach for guidance. These slight changes in how we talk to ourselves can lower our stress and help us solve problems better.
Growing through Positive Self-Dialogue
Building a constructive inner voice requires practice. Just before bed, journal about a moment where positive self-talk helped you. 4 Over time, this habit can help reinforce a growth mindset and prepare you to tackle challenges with more confidence.
Conclusion
By practicing self-distancing, reframing criticism, and reflecting on positive moments, you can turn your inner voice into a source of strength and clarity. 5
A.Our inner voice cuts both ways.
B.Feeling overwhelmed by your inner critic
C.Talking to yourself empowered you during tough times.
D.Self-talk can be transformed into a tool for growth and success.
E.We can learn to identify negative thought patterns and avoid them.
F.Start today — because your inner voice shapes how you show up in the world.
G.Reflect on how it shaped your response and what you can carry into tomorrow.

Learning a language is full of fulfilling steps, from the excitement of your first conversation with a fluent speaker to the intellectual challenge of mastering grammar rules. But at some point, you need to handle an unavoidable task. 1 Here are our top tips for absorbing new English words efficiently!
Flashcards are a great tool, especially for beginners. However, make sure to practice the words you learn in different contexts. For example, if you learn food-related words, try reading an English recipe to see how they're used. 2 This way, you can focus on words you've encountered in your studies, making them easier to remember.
The saying "use it or lose it" applies perfectly to vocabulary. If you don't use new words, you'll forget them. 3 Ideally, practice it in conversation with an English speaker. For instance. after learning haircut-related vocabulary, visit an English-speaking barber to test your new words.
4 Studies show that handwriting helps you remember information better than typing. The reason isn't entirely clear, but it could be because writing requires more time and intentional movement. This simple trick can make a big difference in remembering vocabulary.
Another trick is to note down the new words whenever you encounter them. Each word you record comes with its own context, making it easier to remember. 5 Over time, your notebook will become a valuable resource for expanding your vocabulary.
Over time, these small intentional efforts will build a strong foundation for fluency. With patience and persistence, you'll find yourself confidently using new words in conversations, reading, and writing, bringing you closer to your language goals.
A.You have to memorize a bunch of words.
B.Will typing replace handwriting one day
C.There is no need to worry about your language learning.
D.When you learn a word, try to use it in real-life situations.
E.Start small by writing down five new words per study time.
F.You can also create your own flashcards instead of using pre-made ones.
G.Writing new words by hand may seem old-fashioned, but it's surprisingly effective.

Spend more time in nature.
There’s evidence that it really can help reduce stress and keep you healthy. 1 But if you’re not able to get outdoors, experts say there are helpful things you can do to bring nature to you instead, like opening a window to let in a fresh light wind or using nature-inspired smells.
Organize your space.
“You’ll feel less exhausted if you can learn how to sort and become organized,” said Joseph Ferrari, a distinguished professor of psychology, 2 Ferrari had some great research-backed recommendations for how to get started. 3
I’ve always known that frozen pizza and chips are bad for my physical health. Stimulate your feel-good hormones (荷尔蒙).
4 A 2023 story offers a few examples of how to get high on your own hormones—ranging from the dopamine rush you get from something as simple as finishing a task to the burst of stress-relief hormone from playing with your pet.

Many of us can’t afford a vacation in a world where there’s not much we can control. Well, it turns out that even just planning a vacation can make a difference.
We’ve all experienced the frustration of forgetting what we studied yesterday. But memory isn’t just about natural talent. It’s a skill we can improve with smart strategies.
Our brains naturally screen information. We forget 70% of new knowledge within 24 hours if we don’t review it. Your brain serves as a library. Whenever you revisit information, you’re placing it on a more accessible shelf. A student who reviews math formulas (公式) right after class, then before bed, and once more after three days will find them easier to recall during exams. 1
2 When reciting words like “photosynthesis”, simply repeating the spelling often fails quickly. Instead, picture sunlight hitting green leaves while reading a biology textbook. This combines text, imagery, and real-world meaning, activating multiple brain areas at once. Similarly, linking “pineapple” to “pine tree with apples” creates a funny mental image hard to forget for long.
Sleep and calm minds are secret weapons for memory. During deep sleep, the brain reorganizes daytime learning like a librarian sorting books. Research shows students with 7-8 hours of sleep remember 40% more history facts than those who stay up late. 3 Taking slow breaths can protect your mental “library”.
Active practice beats passive reading. Instead of mechanically rereading notes, transform headings into self-test questions: “ 4 ” This forces your brain to search information, strengthening memory pathways. Explaining concepts to friends, like teaching a classmate how to solve equations, uses speech and logic to deepen understanding.
5 By spacing out reviews, creating vivid mental connections, and caring for your brain’s needs, you can turn temporary knowledge into lifelong wisdom—one small, steady step at a time.
A.How do I use this grammar rule in writing
B.This “spaced repetition” makes memories stick.
C.Forgetting is a common human condition without exception.
D.Context turns weak and uncertain memories into permanent ones.
E.Memory mastery is not about studying longer but studying smarter.
F.Improving memory is more focused on holding on to what really counts.
G.Feeling stressed, however, floods the brain with chemicals that damage memory.

Steve Jobs was undoubtedly a creative person. His innovative ideas have given us many digital devices, without which we cannot seem to function very effectively anymore. There are indeed many things we can learn from Jobs on how to be creative. Here are several of them.
Curiosity
1 But somewhere along the way, we tend to lose or dismiss that nature of ours. Curiosity is the seed of creativity. It questions limiting beliefs and long-held assumptions. Meanwhile it also asks, why Or why not
Jony Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer, wrote about Jobs’ curiosity in the Wall Street Journal: His insatiable curiosity was not limited or distracted by his knowledge or expertise, nor was it casual or passive. 2 His curiosity was practiced with intention and rigor.
Openness to New Experiences
Only when we are open to new experience can we explore the world, and ourselves better. 3 Jobs was also the one who was certainly eager to explore new areas of study. He took a course in calligraphy while he was in the university, despite knowing that the class would not earn him any credit towards a degree. This later helped him a lot, bringing creativity into his world of technology.
Mindfulness & Meditation
Jobs used mindfulness and meditation to reduce his stress, gain more clarity, and enhance his creativity. Biographer Walter Isaacson quotes Jobs as saying: “ 4 Only when it calms, there’s room to hear more subtle things. And that’s when your intuition starts to blossom. Also you start to see things more clearly. Your mind just slows down, and you see a tremendous expanses in the moment. You see so much more than you could see before.”
5 We only have to tweak our habits so that we can ignite the creativity within us.
A.It is not that tough to be creative.
B.It was intense, energetic and restless.
C.We are blessed with the gift after we are well educated.
D.Sit and meditate, and you will find something enlightening.
E.Sit and observe, and you will see how restless your mind is.
F.We are all born with the gift (just observe babies and toddlers).
G.It is a drive to explore novel ideas, or discover and learn unlearned skills.

Patterns are repeated behaviors that shape our daily lives. We follow them when we stick to the same morning routine, react similarly to stress, or face the same conflicts with others. 1 The key is knowing which to keep and which to break.
Harmful patterns, like surfing through social media for hours or avoiding difficult tasks, form because our brains prefer easy and familiar actions. 2 To break such cycles, start small: replace one bad habit with a positive activity, set clear daily goals, and ask friends to support your efforts.
Even good patterns can become problems if we never update them. A study method that worked in high school might not suit college courses. Staying too long with outdated routines limits our ability to adapt. 3 People who refresh their habits regularly tend to solve problems faster and think more creatively. Try this: every few months, review your routines. Ask yourself, “Is this still working Could there be a better way ” 4
As Walt Disney said, “Progress needs change.” Breaking patterns feels uncomfortable at first, but staying stuck in unhelpful habits costs more over time. Begin with manageable steps: wake up 30 minutes earlier, try a new hobby, or write down your thoughts before making decisions. Each change weakens unhelpful patterns and builds confidence to tackle bigger challenges.
5 Keep those that help you grow, but don’t let them become cages. By balancing useful routines with the courage to try new things, we create space for both stability and progress. Track your habits, stay curious, and note: small changes today can lead to big improvements tomorrow.
A.Patterns are very easy to follow.
B.Remember: patterns are tools-not rules.
C.While some patterns help us, others hold us back.
D.In the end, breaking patterns creates space for balance.
E.Sticking to old patterns risks missing better opportunities.
F.Each time we repeat these behaviors, they become harder to change.
G.Simple workspace changes and diverse dialogues stimulate new ideas.

Fourteen years ago, I was invited to spend my summer holiday with a Swedish friend.
The long hours of daylight were spent eating home-baked waffles (华夫饼) with strawberry jam and swimming in the sea. 1 We had no schedule to keep, and work couldn't have been further from our minds. It was about slowing down, enjoying the warmer weather and making the most of what nature had to offer, surrounded by family and friends.
As I settled into Swedish life, I realized that the calm approach wasn’t confined (局限) to the holidays. At a dinner party in Malmō, my new friends introduced me to lagom. “You don’t have a translation for it in English”, they said proudly. “ 2 ” But they clarified, “No, it’s sort of ‘just right’.”
Lagom, pronounced ‘Inh-gom’ (‘la’ like ‘far’, ‘gom’ like ‘from’), is deeply rooted in the Swedish mindset. Often loosely translated as ‘not too much and not too little’, lagom is about finding a balance that works for you. Water can be lagom warm. You can work a lagom amount. Trousers can be a lagom fit. 3
In a world where we’re connected 24/7, it often feels like we have so much on our plates. 4 A life with less stress and more time for the things we love sounds like the perfect balance.
5 However, I hope the ideas in this book will help you think more consciously about introducing lagom in other ways, too; in a way that works for you. By making subtle changes to your. everyday routine, you can find greater balance-and make time for the things that matter most in life.
A.I guessed it meant “perfect”.
B.Lagom is a type of art, not a lifestyle.
C.The days were carefree and uncomplicated.
D.It’s a word you can use in almost any context.
E.We couldn’t help but worry about upcoming tasks.
F.Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all slow down a little
G.You are no doubt exercising lagom in many aspects of your life already.

How to appreciate a classic
Classics are often seen as books read by literature majors or intellectuals. They carry a certain air of snobbery (势利) in them. 1 The classics and I began as acquaintances, eventually to friends, and then to close confidantes (密友) with private jokes between us. So how does one approach a classic
Find your classic (era). The term classic applies to a wide range of books across a long period of time. 2 Not every classic is as thick as Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Like all forms of literature, there are genres within the classics selection of a bookstore. By finding your era, there’s always something that may appeal to you.
Read slow and get immersed (沉浸的). Classics aren’t written in our modern tongue. It is written with every mark of the period it was published. As challenging as it may be, I suggest reading your first classic slow. 3 It’s like immersing yourself in a different world. It would take a few interactions to get the hang of it, but you do get it eventually.
4 Once immersed, you rather get a hang of the language, and it is best to read another one. Maybe read a book from the same author. In this way, the next book becomes easier to read. The ease in the language and the context is reward itself and may motivate you to read more classics.
Try again. If the first classic you got was a miss, find another one. You can even start with thinner books like Peter Pan or a child’s classic such as Alice in Wonderland or even Anne of Green Gables. Don’t jump from “I don’t read classics” to “Brother Karamazov” all too sudden. 5
A.Learn more about the author.
B.Reading classics requires pacing.
C.Follow through with another classic.
D.My love for classics was a gradual affair.
E.Allow the book and the language to grow with you.
F.It’s wrong to assume that all classics are created equal.
G.You should treat classics like vegetables and eat them quickly.

Unplugging for the holidays means more than just putting your phone in another room for a few hours. 1 There are actually scientific benefits to disconnecting you from the Internet and reconnecting with your real life.
●Say goodbye to the fear of being without your phone. Does putting down your phone give you FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) 2 About half of American adults check their phones many times an hour. It might take some time to get used to unplugging your phone, but soon you’ll find yourself keeping your phone switched off more than on.

●Become more focused. Do you find yourself switching between apps, talking on the phone while playing computer games or simply trying to listen to that story your partner is telling you while checking tomorrow’s weather 4 In fact, people who do several things at the same time tend to be more stressed and impulsive than those who focus on one task at a time.

Commitment (承诺) is the firm determination to pursue a path despite obstacles or uncertainty. In a world of distractions, staying committed often feels challenging, yet it unlocks significant growth and mitment alone doesn’t guarantee success. 1 It transforms intentions into achievements, whether through daily habits like early morning runs, professional projects, or supporting loved ones.
At its core, commitment is a silent promise that drives meaningful pursuits. By dedicating ourselves to goals, we uncover hidden strengths and turn ordinary efforts into extraordinary outcomes. In relationships, personal growth or careers, commitment bridges ambitions and fulfillment, fostering resilience (韧性) to overcome setbacks.
Embracing the unknown is central to commitment. Exploring new and unknown areas—like pursuing a different or unusual path—combines excitement and fear. 2 Committing without knowing the outcome builds resilience, preparing us for life’s unpredictability. Every step forward strengthens resolve, much like innovators who dared to explore the unfamiliar.
3 Break goals into actionable steps, match tasks with long-term visions and celebrate small wins to keep motivation going. Consistency matters: small daily efforts add up over time. Building strong habits helps you handle challenges, while reflecting on progress creates a cycle of improvement—success drives more commitment.
Belief in oneself can change things. 4 Think about how a motivational speaker’s strong belief in their message can inspire millions. This belief comes from constant self-improvement and having a clear goal. By developing this mindset, challenges turn into stepping stones and passions become lifelong pursuits.
Ultimately, commitment is a lifestyle. It shapes character, guiding us through challenges and victories. Each step strengthens the belief that anything is possible with hard work. 5 .
A.However, without it, success is impossible.
B.It discourages us from embracing challenges.
C.To stay committed, practical strategies are key.
D.Yet uncertainty holds opportunities for discovery.
E.It requires consistent action, even when progress feels slow.
F.It can fuel passion during doubt, inspiring us to pursue ambitious goals.
G.Embrace the journey courageously, letting commitment be your compass.

We all know that first impressions are important and that they are lasting. That’s why we work hard to make great first impressions. 1
First impressions might overshadow your abilities. When you are hired in an organization, a set of inferences are made about you. Making inferences is human nature. If you become known for your attention to details, you may never be seen as someone who can see the big picture. If you are the person who organizes all of the birthday celebrations, you may never be seen as management material. 2
First impressions can stamp you forever, often pre-determining the path of your career and how far you will be able to advance your career. These perceptions paint a picture of who people think you are. 3 This, in large part, is why your careers are held back, why you become frustrated, dissatisfied and even want to leave the present position.
But it doesn’t have to come to that if you can unlock hidden aspects of your value. Talk about what you are reading or a project you are working on at home with coworkers and your manager when appropriate. This can demonstrate other skills you possess. Embrace (接受) new things and become knowledgeable about your company and industry. 4 Volunteer in your company. It is a good way to give yourself the opportunity for others to see you in a way that is outside of your defined role.
5 As people get to know you better, they will recognize your diverse interests and capabilities, potentially opening new doors for career advancement.
A.Here are some useful suggestions for you.
B.Arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible.
C.Thus, you can contribute in fresh and unexpected ways.
D.It is often extremely difficult for people to change them.

Will AI Replace Teachers
The AI teacher is also known as the mechanical teacher. 1 It’s a computer or machine that can teach a student according to the level it’s programmed to teach.
While the thought of a reliable computer teaching your child might seem promising, an AI cannot adapt its teaching to its student during mid-lesson or read its student’s emotions, as a human teacher can. 2 It also cannot inspire its students as a human teacher can. The biggest benefit of the human teacher is that he or she gives students human connections they need.
There are some who believe that teachers will be completely replaced by robots by the year 2027. Human teachers do carry with them some disadvantages. Some teachers can be of poor character. Others can have a compromising character or not be as knowledgeable about particular subjects as they should be. 3
If you ask anyone the top qualities of a good teacher, an AI cannot meet these standards. They include friendly attitude, listening skills, respectful attitude, strong work ethic, patience, discipline skills, and so forth. AI cannot replace teachers. They cannot give a child what he or she needs. 4
5 It makes the human teacher’s job easier and helps her to be more efficient. This added efficiency allows him or her the time he or she needs to work more one-on-one with students to provide more adaptability and understanding for them. The two things are what an AI teacher would struggle to provide.
A.It is exactly what it sounds like.
B.However, this does not mean that AI is not necessary.
C.Frankly speaking, students have their own disadvantages, too.
D.Students long for the student-teacher bond, cooperation, and love.
E.Luckily, the good news is that AI shows more respect for teachers.
F.These drawbacks can be corrected, though, through proper monitoring.

As a result of trade, travel and migration, different cuisines have spread across the world. Many recipes, chefs and restaurants try to claim that their example of a particular cooking tradition is the most authentic (地道的). 1
People care about authenticity because food traditions are closely linked to identity. 2 There home cooking is often the last way to show their identity, British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver was accused of trying to take advantage of positive feelings about Jamaica. His meal product had a Jamaican name, but was unlike genuine Jamaican cooking.
However, food consultant Sara Kay argues that there are problems with the idea of authenticity. 3 It’s common for majority cultures to have wild fantasies about minority cultures and their food. These expectations can be restricting — restaurant owners have complained that people expect Asian food to be cheaper than that from European cultures.
4 while large cities are full of restaurants representing different countries — China, India, Italy, Mexico and more — these labels can oversimplify the reality of food from these countries. For instance, regional specialties in Mexico are assumed quite different from what people eat in America. But in essence, they can both be authentic examples of Mexican food.
A more controversial view of authenticity was stated by American Chef Andrew Zimmern, who claimed that he could present Chinese dishes in a more authentic way than existing restaurants. Writer and food podcaster Ruth Tam points out that while these restaurants change their recipes to suit local tastes. so does Zimmern. 5 So, while food and identity are closely linked, it makes sense to give a second thought about the whole idea of authenticity.
A.But is this a good thing
B.It’s a symbol of cultural diversity,
C.That means adaptation is unavoidable.
D.They can generate severe consequences.
E.And unreasonable expectations are the core.
F.It’s particularly true for migrant communities.

In ancient times, the more information our ancestors had, the more likely they were to survive. However, nowadays, this is the first time in history that humans have been exposed to such a constant flow of information. While it’s important to stay informed, too much information can make us feel confused and anxious. As we all know, too many high-calorie foods can lead to obesity. 1
We’ re not just seeking relevant information to increase our chances of survival anymore. We fall into rabbit holes, scroll (滚屏) our feeds mindlessly, and watch video after video by clicking on the recommended links. 2 And we have lost control over the content we consume. Just as you try to eat healthily to improve your physical health, going on an information diet is a way to control what you consume to take care of your mental health. Here are some simple ways to start an information diet to break the information addiction.
Prevent unwanted information. 3 Make sure to set up filters. Try some apps to unsubscribe from unwanted emails.
Dress the table. Shape your environment to make sure you’re not overly tempted to have access to too much useless information. 4 For example, you can change your social media settings to reduce the number of notifications.
Add more offline foods to your content menu. Increase your levels of “offline foods” — content you can consume away from a screen and that you can purchase or download in advance.
5 It’s incredibly effective to block time for reading stuff online. If you’re really struggling with information addiction, you can even put a timer on. This will force you to prioritize information that really matters.
A.Focus on reading stuff online.
B.We are addicted to information.
C.Schedule your content consumption.
D.Subscribing to many newsletters can quickly become a mess.
E.You can also adopt some effective strategies to reduce distractions.
F.Similarly, this new information overload encourages over consumption.

I was eleven years old when I spotted my neighbour, Julie, working in her garden. She asked me if I would help her cut back the hedge (树篱) overgrown over the pathway. I agreed and my brother Josh also came along to help us. We wheeled Julie’s garden bin (垃圾桶) down to the hedge. 1
We posted photos of our handiwork on “Our Malmesbury”, our local Facebook Group. The community reaction was amazing. A wheelchair user was so grateful that he didn’t have to go onto the road anymore to pass the hedge. 2 Many people raised their hands to volunteer and do more to keep our town tidy.
3 Before, it looked a bit run down, but now, the place looks cleaner and tidier. Residents comment how amazing the roses look when they flower and make the place brighter.
To keep the projects going, I managed to sort funding through local businesses and associations. I used a website online that lists available grants (补助). 4 So Julie applied on our behalf. The funding has helped us obtain trees, plants and gardening equipment.
When we first started, everything was done out of my parent’s garage. I started with nothing, just borrowing equipment we already had. But as time went on, donations came in from the local community. 5 It got so big that we had to move this all to Julie’s.

There are some ways to boost your mental health. Some are tried-and-true; exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep. Over the years, my colleagues have reported on 5 other self-care tips that are backed by science and fairly easy to access.
But I didn’t realize until I read Janis Jibrin’s story in November that people whose diets are high in these processed foods—which also include soda, candy and energy bars-had a 44 percent greater risk of depression and 48 percent higher risk of anxiety.
Stimulate your feel-good hormones (荷尔蒙).
4 A 2023 story offers a few examples of how to get high on your own hormones—ranging from the dopamine rush you get from something as simple as finishing a task to the burst of stress-relief hormone from playing with your pet.
Plan a trip.
Many of us can’t afford a vacation in a world where there’s not much we can control. Well, it turns out that even just planning a vacation can make a difference. As my colleagues on our travel team reported during the pandemic (流行病), research shows that anticipating a trip “can increase a person’s happiness substantially”. 5

【答案】1.B 2.D 3.G 4.A 5.E
1.根据上文“A student who reviews math formulas (公式) right after class, then before bed, and once more after three days will find them easier to recall during exams.( 如果一个学生在课后、睡前、三天后再复习一遍数学公式,他会发现在考试时更容易记住。)”
2.根据后文内容“When reciting words like “photosynthesis”, simply repeating the spelling often fails quickly. Instead, picture sunlight hitting green leaves while reading a biology textbook. This combines text, imagery, and real-world meaning, activating multiple brain areas at once. Similarly, linking “pineapple” to “pine tree with apples” creates a funny mental image hard to forget for long.( 当背诵像“光合作用”这样的单词时,简单地重复拼写往往很快就会失败。相反,在阅读生物教科书时,想象阳光照射在绿叶上。它结合了文本、图像和现实世界的含义,同时激活了大脑的多个区域。同样,把“菠萝”和“带苹果的松树”联系起来,会产生一种有趣的印象,让人难以忘怀。)”通过举例说明将单词与具体的图像、实际意义相结合能更好地记忆,即通过上下文情境来加强记忆。D选项“Context turns weak and uncertain memories into permanent ones.( 上下文情境将薄弱且不确定的记忆转化为永久的记忆。)”
3.根据上文“During deep sleep, the brain reorganizes daytime learning like a librarian sorting books. Research shows students with 7-8 hours of sleep remember 40% more history facts than those who stay up late.( 在深度睡眠中,大脑会像图书管理员整理书籍一样重新组织白天的学习。研究表明,睡眠7-8小时的学生比那些熬夜的学生多记住40%的历史事实。)”提到睡眠对记忆的好处,该段主题是睡眠和冷静的头脑对记忆的作用。G选项“Feeling stressed, however, floods the brain with chemicals that damage memory.( 然而,感到压力会使大脑充斥着损害记忆的化学物质。)”
4.根据上文“Active practice beats passive reading. Instead of mechanically rereading notes, transform headings into self-test questions:( 主动练习胜过被动阅读。不要机械地重读笔记,把标题变成自我测试的问题:)”提到将标题转化为自我测试问题,A选项“How do I use this grammar rule in writing ( 我如何在写作中使用这个语法规则?)”是一个具体的自我测试问题的例子,符合“将标题转化为自我测试问题”这一策略。故选A项。
5.根据后文“By spacing out reviews, creating vivid mental connections, and caring for your brain’s needs, you can turn temporary knowledge into lifelong wisdom—one small, steady step at a time.( 通过间隔复习,建立生动的精神联系,照顾大脑的需要,你可以把暂时的知识变成终身的智慧——一次一小步,一步一步。)” E选项“Memory mastery is not about studying longer but studying smarter.( 掌握记忆不是在于学习时间更长,而是学习更明智。)”

1.根据上文“Patterns are repeated behaviors that shape our daily lives. We follow them when we stick to the same morning routine, react similarly to stress, or face the same conflicts with others.(模式是塑造我们日常生活的重复行为。当我们坚持同样的早晨例行公事,对压力做出类似的反应,或者与他人面临同样的冲突时,我们就会遵循它们)”以及后文“The key is knowing which to keep and which to break.(关键是要知道哪些该保留,哪些该打破)”可知,上文提到了模式的作用,后文提出应该对模式进行取舍,推测本句是在说明要取舍的原因。故C选项“虽然有些模式对我们有帮助,但也有一些模式会阻碍我们”符合语境,故选C。
2.根据上文“Harmful patterns, like surfing through social media for hours or avoiding difficult tasks, form because our brains prefer easy and familiar actions.(有害的模式,比如在社交媒体上浏览几个小时,或者逃避困难的任务,是因为我们的大脑更喜欢简单和熟悉的行为而形成的)”可知,上文提到了有害的模式是如何形成的,推测本句说明这种有害模式对行为的影响。
3.根据上文“Staying too long with outdated routines limits our ability to adapt.(在过时的日常生活中停留太久会限制我们的适应能力)”以及后文“People who refresh their habits regularly tend to solve problems faster and think more creatively.(经常刷新习惯的人往往能更快地解决问题,思维也更有创造性)”可知,本句主要说明坚持旧模式所带来的影响,与后文新习惯形成对比。
4.根据上文“Try this: every few months, review your routines. Ask yourself, “Is this still working Could there be a better way ”(试试这个:每隔几个月,回顾一下你的日常生活。问问你自己,“这还管用吗?还有更好的办法吗?”)”可知,上文建议通过自我对话来回顾日常生活,本句为本段最后一句,故承接上文,说明其作用。故G选项“简单的工作空间变化和多样化的对话激发新想法”符合语境,故选G。
5.根据后文“Keep those that help you grow, but don’t let them become cages. By balancing useful routines with the courage to try new things, we create space for both stability and progress. Track your habits, stay curious, and note: small changes today can lead to big improvements tomorrow.(保留那些帮助你成长的东西,但不要让它们成为牢笼。

【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.F 5.G
1.根据上文“The long hours of daylight were spent eating home-baked waffles (华夫饼) with strawberry jam and swimming in the sea.(在漫长的白天,我们吃着家里烤的加了草莓酱的华夫饼,在海里游泳)”及下文“We had no schedule to keep, and work couldn't have been further from our minds. It was about slowing down, enjoying the warmer weather and making the most of what nature had to offer, surrounded by family and friends.(我们没有时间表要遵守,工作也离我们越来越远。这是关于放慢脚步,享受温暖的天气,在家人和朋友的陪伴下,充分利用大自然所提供的一切)”可知,本段落介绍瑞典的慢节奏生活。由此可知,C. The days were carefree and uncomplicated.(那些日子无忧无虑,简简单单)体现这种轻松愉快的氛围,符合语境。故选C项。
2.根据上文“You don’t have a translation for it in English(你们英语中没有它合适的翻译)”及下文“No, it’s sort of ‘just right’.(不,这是一种‘刚刚好’的意思)”的否定回答可知,lagom是一个很难直接翻译的词,该空应该是作者对于lagom词义的一个猜测。 A. 故选A项。
3.根据上文“Often loosely translated as ‘not too much and not too little’, lagom is about finding a balance that works for you. Water can be lagom warm. You can work a lagom amount. Trousers can be a lagom fit.(lagom是指找到一种适合你的平衡。水可以lagom程度的热。你可以做lagom量的工作。裤子可以lagom很合身)”可知,这里解释lagom是关于找到适合自己的平衡点,后面列举三个使用这个词的场景做例子。由此可知,D. It’s a word you can use in almost any context.(这个词几乎可以在任何语境中使用)符合语境。故选D项。

5.根据下文“However, I hope the ideas in this book will help you think more consciously about introducing lagom in other ways, too;(然而,我希望本书中的观点也能帮助你更有意识地以其他方式引入lagom)”可知,空后转折后表示,希望读者可以有意识地在其他方面也保持lagom模式,推测前面表示读者可能已经在一些方面践行着lagom。 G. You are no doubt exercising lagom in many aspects of your life already.(毫无疑问,你已经在生活的许多方面开始使用lagom了)契合本段,in many aspects与in other ways, too呼应。故选G项。
