(2025年1月 浙江卷) One of the most common mistakes in communication is trying to do too much. 36 There’s no value in delivering any kind of communication, whether written, spoken, formal, or informal, if the message doesn’t come across clearly. Being clear and brief — while maintaining interest and including everything your listeners need to know — is a high-level communication skill.
Here are some tips worth following in order to communicate more effectively.
Keep your audience in mind.
Your audience will naturally be more interested and engaged when you tailor your communications to their interests. 37 This will engage their desire to understand and interact with the information.
Don’t use ten words when one will do.
Even the most engaged and committed audience will eventually get bored. Keeping your message simple and clear will make it easier for people to understand. 38 However, they’re hearing it for the first time. Keep it simple.
39
If you’ve ever worked as an instructor, manager, trainer or coach, you’ll know that there are few better ways to learn new information than to teach it. Ask the audience to contribute their ideas or to take a role in explaining new concepts and policies to others. Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills.
Consider the best method to deliver your message.
If the information you’re communicating isn’t urgent, consider sending an email. Written communication will give your audience more time to review it, think it over, and follow up with questions. 40
Building effective communication skills takes time, but the effects are worth the effort.
A.Be patient.
B.Get the audience involved.
C.The best messages are often simple.
D.Speak directly to what matters to them.
E.You may be surprised by what your listeners offer.
F.It will also give them a handy record to refer back to.
G.As the speaker, you already know what you’re going to say.
39.【答案】B
【解析】本题考查小标题,根据后文“Ask the audience to contribute their ideas or to take a role in explaining new concepts and policies to others. Allow them to lead discussions and meetings to develop their communication skills.(要求听众贡献自己的想法,或参与向他人解释新的概念和政策。让他们能够领导讨论和会议,以发展他们的沟通技巧)”表示让听众参与到互动演讲之中,B选项“让观众参与进来”概括本段内容。故选B。

Overtourism Is For Real: How Can You Help
Travel promotes understanding, expands our minds, makes us better people, and boosts local economies and communities, but the rapid growth of travel has led to overtourism in certain regions and destinations. So, should we stop traveling Certainly not. The loss of what travel offers would be unacceptable in today’s world. Here are some tips on making wise decisions to minimize pressure on the places we visit and improve our experience.
●Choose mindfully. Overvisited destinations are that way for a reason: they’re special. With so many online posts featuring the same places, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out. Go somewhere only when the landscape, culture or food deeply draws you. Travel for you and no one else.
●Get creative. The best way to ease pressure on over-touristed destinations is to go somewhere else. Though overtourism is described as a problem affecting the entire world, it’s actually concentrated to a small number of extremely popular spots. That means you have tons of less-visited options to choose from. You can still find relatively undiscovered places. Why not try a regional alternative or check out a popular destination’s lesser-known sights
● 4 Minimize impact and maximize experience by skipping major holidays or rush hour. You’ll compete with fewer tourists, save money, experience a different side of a popular place, and boost the economy when tourism is traditionally slower.
Visiting a place that others call home is a privilege (荣幸). Do your part to preserve what makes a destination special in the first place. Consider giving back to the communities you’re visiting. You may be amazed how much closer you’ll feel to the people there.
A.Visit during off-peak times.
B.So, should we stop traveling
C.Travel for you and no one else.
D.Can overtourism be avoided then
E.You can still find relatively undiscovered places.
F.You’ll find yourself virtually alone, or close to it.
G.Consider giving back to the communities you’re visiting.
4.【答案】A
故选A。

38 It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced.
In addition, I have an old two-volume copy of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary, picked up a few years ago in a bookshop sale for just 99 pence. …
…
A. I don’t often use this dictionary.
B. It takes no account of the context.
C. But I still don’t want to replace them.

有时会出现下列衔接词汇或短语结构: first, second, then, next, later, soon, so, but, however, additionally, what’s more, that is, namely, in other words, for one thing. .
①总分关系:指选项是中心句;
②并列关系:指选项与前句或后句在结构或内容上一致;
③递进关系:指后句对前句进行补充说明或语义上的延伸;
④转折关系;指选项与前句或后句语义相反或相对,后句往往是对前句的修正,表达作者的真正意图;
⑥概括阐释:指前句对后句或后句对前句进行归纳概括,若前句归纳,后句即是对前句的具体阐释,使得概念更加清晰易懂;若后句概括,即后句是对前句所阐释的内容进行意义整合;

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the idea of making a significant change in your life Whether it’s getting fit, starting a new hobby, or becoming more productive, the sheer size of the task can often feel challenging. 6 The key to lasting improvement often lies in small, consistent actions—tiny habits that, over time, lead to massive results.
Small habits are manageable, which makes them easier to sustain. Unlike great changes that require a lot of willpower and motivation, small habits are less frightening and more realistic to carry out in our daily lives. 7 Even on busy days, these tiny actions remain achievable.
Small habits can create a snowball effect of positive change. When you start with one small habit, you build confidence and keep going, which makes it easier to add more positive habits over time. 8 It’s like a chain reaction that pushes you towards your goals.
9 For example, by reading a page each day, you start to see yourself as a reader. This identity shift is crucial for long-term behaviour change because it make your behaviour fit the person you want to become.
Remember, significant change doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t require to remake your entire life. By starting small and focusing on tiny habits, you can build a foundation for lasting improvement. Pick one small habit to start today, commit to it, and watch as these small changes accumulate into transformative results over time. As Gretchen Rubin, author of Better Than Before, wisely notes, “ 10 ”
A.This accumulated effect is powerful.
B.However, these big changes can bring real results.
C.Moreover, small habits can help shift your self-perception.
D.Success depends on choosing the right habit from the start.
E.Their simplicity means you can start immediately without preparation.
F.What we do every day matters more than what we do once in a while.
G.The good news is, that you don’t need to make big changes all at once to achieve your goals.

Incorporating self-expression into your daily routine can be challenging, especially with a busy schedule. However, taking the time for creative activities offers numerous benefits. To help you get started, here are some practical suggestions.
Reduce stress
11 . However, when we put too much pressure on ourselves, creativity becomes hard to reach. A personal potential coach from the UK says, “It’s not about being perfect, but about staying curious and brave.” He adds, “Imperfection is interesting because it shows our humanity and is a sign of passion and curiosity.”
Seize opportunities in everyday life
When we think about creative activities, we often stop at arts and crafts. 12 . You can try cooking a new dish, creating a new outfit from your existing clothes, or changing your living space—like rearranging furniture or adding a vase of flowers.
13
The founder of a video production company says that working with others can make you more creative. “I used to think creativity was a very personal pursuit, but creative work is a living, breathing and growing thing — it needs a team,” he says.
Carry a notebook
When you crave something new or inspiring, it can be tempting to reach for your phone. But using a notebook instead of digital devices can help unlock creativity. 14 . “Putting those ideas on paper can help you record what quickly appears in your mind in daily life,” he says.
Leave time to dream
“Our minds are always busy,” an artist points out. He recommends activities with a physical rhythm, like knitting (编织). 15 .
A.Team up with others
B.Creative activities should be fun
C.Creative activities are too hard to get
D.Work together with a scientist can be helpful
E.Once you learn the pattern, your mind flows
F.However, there are many ways to inspire your imagination
G.A printmaker always carries drawing paper to catch sudden ideas
【答案】11.B 12.F 13.A 14.G 15.E
11.下文“However, when we put too much pressure on ourselves, creativity becomes hard to reach. (然而,当我们给自己施加太多压力时,创造力就很难发挥出来)”说明压力太大时创造力很难发挥出来,B选项“Creative activities should be fun (创造性活动应该是有趣的)”与其构成转折关系,强调创造性活动不应有太大压力而应是有趣的,同时与本段主题“Reduce stress(减轻压力)”一致。故选B项。
12.上文“When we think about creative activities, we often stop at arts and crafts.(当我们想到创造性活动时,我们通常只想到工艺美术)”指出人们对创造性活动的认知局限,F选项“However, there are many ways to inspire your imagination(然而,有很多激发你想象力的方法)”与上文构成转折,说明除了工艺美术,还有很多方式能激发创造力,引出下文“You can try cooking a new dish, creating a new outfit from your existing clothes... (你可以尝试做一道新菜,用你现有的衣服做一套新衣服……)”列举的其他方式。故选F项。
13.根据下文“The founder of a video production company says that working with others can make you more creative. (一家视频制作公司的创始人说,与他人合作可以让你更有创造力)”可知,本段强调了与他人合作对创造力的作用,A选项“Team up with others (与他人合作)”与下文内容一致,概括了该部分的主题,适合作小标题。故选A项。

Vitamin D is hugely important to your health, and I don’t just mean bone health. Humans need vitamin D for immune (免疫) function, cell growth and repair, and many other things. So how can we get this important thing 16
Choose sunlight to get vitamin D.
Before I discuss food sources, I do want to address the issue of where vitamin D comes from in the first place. The primary sources are sunlight and food (and supplements), so if you get plenty of sun, you don’t need to worry about meeting your needs through food, and vice versa. 17 That depends on your latitude (纬度) on the Earth and how dark or light your skin is. In Miami in the summer, it only takes a few minutes for a person with a medium skin tone to get their vitamin D for the day. In Boston in the winter, that same person might take two hours to get the same amount of vitamin D.
Add vitamin D to your diet.
18 Fish carry tons of vitamin D in their fat, so fatty fish like trout and salmon tend to be great sources of the vitamin. Cod liver oil always tops lists of vitamin D sources, as if people are buying cod liver oil and taking spoonfuls of it like in old cartoons. Several land animals also make enough vitamin D to be worth considering as a good source of vitamin D, like chicken eggs, beef livers. 19 There is some vitamin D naturally present in the milkfat, so skim milk doesn’t usually have much vitamin D, but whole milk does — and it’s often fortified (强化) to bring those levels up even more.
20
Health professionals generally agree that if you aren’t sure if you’re getting enough vitamin D from food and the sun, just take a supplement. That’s going to be safer than trying to meet all your needs through sunlight, since the vitamin-converting rays of the sun are the same rays that can potentially contribute to skin cancer.
A.Eat more animal products.
B.Take a vitamin D supplement.
C.Milk is famously a good source of vitamin D.
D.How much sun do you need to get enough vitamin D
E.How much vitamin D do you need in food each day
F.Then let’s take a look at which foods have the most vitamin D.
G.Usually, we can get vitamin D from sunlight, food and supplements.
【答案】16.G 17.D 18.F 19.C 20.B

16.根据上文“So how can we get this important thing (那么我们怎样才能得到这个重要的东西呢?)”
17.后文“That depends on your latitude (纬度) on the Earth and how dark or light your skin is. In Miami in the summer, it only takes a few minutes for a person with a medium skin tone to get their vitamin D for the day. In Boston in the winter, that same person might take two hours to get the same amount of vitamin D. (这取决于你在地球上的纬度,以及你皮肤的肤色。在夏天的迈阿密,中等肤色的人只需要几分钟就能获得一天所需的维生素D。在波士顿的冬天,同一个人可能需要两个小时才能获得相同量的维生素D)”解释所需阳光时间因纬度和肤色而异;此空主要是针对需要多少阳光来获得维生素D的问题,故D选项“你需要多少阳光才能获得足够的维生素D?”的问题引出下文的解释,符合语境,故选D。
18.根据后文“Fish carry tons of vitamin D in their fat, so fatty fish like trout and salmon tend to be great sources of the vitamin. Cod liver oil always tops lists of vitamin D sources, as if people are buying cod liver oil and taking spoonfuls of it like in old cartoons. Several land animals also make enough vitamin D to be worth considering as a good source of vitamin D, like chicken eggs, beef livers.(鱼类的脂肪中含有大量的维生素D,所以像鳟鱼和鲑鱼这样的脂肪丰富的鱼类往往是维生素的重要来源。鱼肝油总是排在维生素D来源的榜首,就好像人们买了鱼肝油,就像在老漫画里一样吃了一勺。一些陆地动物也能产生足够的维生素D,值得考虑作为维生素D的良好来源,比如鸡蛋、牛肝)”可知,本段主要讲了可以从哪些食物中获取维生素D;F选项“那么让我们来看看哪些食物含有最多的维生素D”引出食物含有维生素D的话题,符合语境,故选F。
19.根据后文“There is some vitamin D naturally present in the milkfat, so skim milk doesn’t usually have much vitamin D, but whole milk does — and it’s often fortified (强化) to bring those levels up even more.(乳脂中含有一些天然的维生素D,所以脱脂牛奶通常不含太多的维生素D,但全脂牛奶含有维生素D,而且全脂牛奶经常被强化以提高维生素D的含量)”可知,此处讲到牛奶是维生素D的来源,故C选项“众所周知,牛奶是维生素D的良好来源”符合语境,故选C。
20.此空为小标题;根据本段内容“Health professionals generally agree that if you aren’t sure if you’re getting enough vitamin D from food and the sun, just take a supplement. That’s going to be safer than trying to meet all your needs through sunlight, since the vitamin-converting rays of the sun are the same rays that can potentially contribute to skin cancer.(健康专家普遍认为,如果你不确定你是否从食物和阳光中获得了足够的维生素D,那就服用补充剂。这比试图通过阳光来满足你的所有需求要安全得多,因为太阳中转化维生素的光线与可能导致皮肤癌的光线是相同的)”可知,本段主要讲了可以从补充剂中获取维生素D;B选项“服用维生素D补充剂”能够概括本段主旨,适合作为小标题,故选B。

In art, there are various functions a piece may serve. Generally, these functions fall into three categories: physical, social and personal.
21 . A Japanese raku bowl that is used for tea drinking has a physical function. Architecture, crafts such as woodworking, interior design, and industrial design are all types of art that serve physical functions.
Art has a social function when it addresses aspects of collective life as opposed to one person’s point of view or experience. 22 . For example, photographers often take pictures of people in conditions that are difficult to see and think about, and viewers may feel sympathetic to them and take action.
Personal functions of art are not likely to be the same from artist to artist. 23 . He or she might also or instead want to communicate a thought or point to the viewer. Sometimes an artist is only trying to provide an aesthetic (美学的) experience.
Ideally, one can look at a piece of art and guess with some accuracy what function it has. This best outcome also includes identifying the artist because he or she plays a key role in assigning functions to art. 24 ; you might ask yourself how that same piece of art makes you feel as you look at it.
These— in addition to the time period, location of creation and cultural influences — are all factors you should consider before trying to recognize functions. 25 , which is never something you want to do.
A.You, the viewer, are equally essential
B.The physical function of art is losing its place
C.An artist may create a piece out of a need for self-expression
D.Works of art that are created to perform some service have physical functions
E.From artist to artist and viewer to viewer, one’s experience with art is different
F.Viewers can often relate in some way to social art and are sometimes even influenced by it
G.Taking anything out of context can lead to misunderstanding art and misinterpreting an artist’s intentions
【答案】21.D 22.F 23.C 24.A 25.G

23.根据上文“Personal functions of art are not likely to be the same from artist to artist. (艺术对每位艺术家的个人意义各不相同。)”可知,上文提出艺术与个人的关系,因此划线处需要展开说明艺术与个人的关系。选项C“An artist may create a piece out of a need for self-expression (艺术家或许会因自我表达的需求而创作一件作品。)”
24.根据下文“you might ask yourself how that same piece of art makes you feel as you look at it. (在观赏时,你可能会问自己,同一件艺术品会带给你怎样的感受?)”可知,下文以观众视角阐述艺术的作用,划线处则阐述观众对艺术的意义,选项A“You, the viewer, are equally essential (作为观众的您同样不可或缺。)” 故选A。
25.根据下文“which is never something you want to do. (这绝不是你想做的事)”可知,后文补充说明这是一件不要作的事,因此划线处要指出一件关于艺术而造成负面影响,或消极意义的内容,衔接下文非限制性定语从句,选项G“Taking anything out of context can lead to misunderstanding art and misinterpreting an artist’s intentions (断章取义任何事物都会导致对艺术的误解,甚至曲解艺术家的创作初衷)”指出了断章取义的危害,符合逻辑。故选G。

3. How to start writing a novel
Have you been mulling over a good story idea for years but failing to actually get it started Or perhaps you’re putting words down but feeling unsure of what you’re doing and where you’re headed with it 11 Here are some of my best tips on how to get your novel going on a sure footing and to feel good about your exciting new writing project.
Set aside proper, regular time to write. If you’re serious about doing this, show yourself and your writing some respect, figure out some regular time to do it, and then stick to that. Writing a book is both amazing and also, at times, a difficult task. 12 .
Don’t expect your words to come out perfectly straight away. Lots of people start off enthusiastically writing a first draft, but then when they read over their material, they find it’s not as good as they want it to be, and they just delete it all. 13 It’s better to just keep going and not look back too much for a good while. Remember, great novels are made in the rewrite.
14 Write down everything you know about what you want your novel to be. Jot down little half-formed thoughts and ideas and see where they take you. If there is a burning question you want to explore, note that down. If you’re fascinated by a setting or a time period or a subject, scribble notes about it. It’s through these meandering jottings that ideas will take shape.
Work out your structure. Once you’re making some headway with your story and you’re getting words down on the page, take some time to think about the structural features of your novel. Will your story span a week, a year, a lifetime 15 Making key decisions about structure and the means of telling your story can help you get off on a sure footing.
A.Explore your ideas.
B.Try to go easy on yourself.
C.Will you tell it in first or third person
D.Just read a good book to inspire yourself.
E.It’ll completely fall away if you don’t keep it up.
F.Think of some targets that feel achievable for you.
G.Writing a novel can feel like an impossibly enormous task.

It’s through these meandering jottings that ideas will take shape.(写下你所知道的关于你想要的小说的一切。
15.根据上文“Will your story span a week, a year, a lifetime (你的故事会持续一周,一年,还是一生?)”以及后文“Making key decisions about structure and the means of telling your story can help you get off on a sure footing.(在讲述故事的结构和方式上做出关键的决定可以帮助你在一个稳定的基础上起步)”可知,本句与上文并列,都是针对写作的具体细节进行设问,故C选项“你要用第一人称还是第三人称?”
4.Wildlife documentaries are known for offering breathtaking images of animals in their natural habitats. You might be thinking that these shows offer a totally real portrayal (描绘) of these animals-an objective window into their lives as they hunt, rest and raise their young. 16 While the images we see are filmed on location, many of the sounds are recorded in a sound studio and added to the programs later by human “Foley artists (拟音师)”.
17 Usually, documentary filmmakers can film their subjects from a great distance, but they typically can’t get close enough to capture clear sounds without disturbing the animals. 18 There will probably be background noises such as crew members chatting or walking around if sounds are recorded on location. In other cases, the animals might make sounds of a frequency or volume that most microphones simply can’t capture clearly.
“Foley artists” will use a variety of tools to simulate (模拟) the sounds made by animals. And most of them will create the close-up sounds of animals chewing or yawning with their own mouths. These sounds are created as the artist watches the videos, making sure they perfectly match the actions they’re paired with. 19 Animal cries — which are far too complex to be simulated — will have to be taken from library recordings.
Watching “Foley artists” at work on wildlife projects gives me a thrill like the one we get when we see how a magic trick is done. Admittedly, the significance of the technique goes further. 20 Sounds have the ability to affect our understanding of a given species.
A.But this isn’t quite the case.
B.There are some exceptions, though.
C.The Foley process involves a large team.
D.Wildlife documentaries also tend to require large crews.
E.Sounds guide our emotional interpretation of the things we see
F.This is an unavoidable outcome of modern wildlife filmmaking.
G.How it is portrayed in documentaries may also impact conservation efforts.
【答案】16.A 17.F 18.D 19.B 20.E
16.根据下文“While the images we see are filmed on location, many of the sounds are recorded in a sound studio and added to the programs later by human “Foley artists (拟音师)”.(尽管我们看到的图像是在现场拍摄的,但许多声音是在录音室录制的,并由人类“拟音师”稍后添加到节目中)”可知,虽然图像在现场拍摄,但录制声音的方式有所不同。A项“但这并不是完全如此”与上文“You might be thinking that these shows offer a totally real portrayal (描绘) of these animals-an objective window into their lives as they hunt, rest and raise their young.(你可能会认为,这些节目对这些动物进行了完全真实的描绘,为它们狩猎、休息和养育幼崽的生活提供了一个客观的窗口。) ”构成转折关系,引出下文,符合语境。故选A。
17.根据上文“While the images we see are filmed on location, many of the sounds are recorded in a sound studio and added to the programs later by human “Foley artists (拟音师)”.(尽管我们看到的图像是在现场拍摄的,但许多声音是在录音室录制的,并由人类“拟音师”稍后添加到节目中)”表明,图像和声音不是同时录制的;根据下文“Usually, documentary filmmakers can film their subjects from a great distance, but they typically can’t get close enough to capture clear sounds without disturbing the animals.(通常,纪录片制片人可以从很远的距离拍摄他们的主题,但他们通常无法在不打扰动物的情况下足够近地捕捉到清晰的声音)”解释了图像和声音不能同时录制的原因。
18.根据下文“There will probably be background noises such as crew members chatting or walking around if sounds are recorded on location.(如果在现场录制声音,可能会有工作人员聊天或走动的背景噪音)”解释了现场录制声音的背景噪音问题。
19.上文““Foley artists” will use a variety of tools to simulate (模拟) the sounds made by animals. And most of them will create the close-up sounds of animals chewing or yawning with their own mouths. These sounds are created as the artist watches the videos, making sure they perfectly match the actions they’re paired with.(“拟音师”将使用各种工具来模拟动物发出的声音。
20.根据上文“Admittedly, the significance of the technique goes further.(诚然,这项技术的意义更为深远)”及下文“Sounds have the ability to affect our understanding of a given species.(声音有能力影响我们对某一特定物种的理解)”可知,此处应该解释“更进一步”的具体表现,并引起下文“声音能够影响我们对某一物种的理解”。

有时会出现下列衔接词汇或短语结构: first, second, then, next, later, soon, so, but, however, additionally, what’s more, that is, namely, in other words, for one thing. .
①总分关系:指选项是中心句;
②并列关系:指选项与前句或后句在结构或内容上一致;
③递进关系:指后句对前句进行补充说明或语义上的延伸;
④转折关系;指选项与前句或后句语义相反或相对,后句往往是对前句的修正,表达作者的真正意图;
⑥概括阐释:指前句对后句或后句对前句进行归纳概括,若前句归纳,后句即是对前句的具体阐释,使得概念更加清晰易懂;若后句概括,即后句是对前句所阐释的内容进行意义整合;

2.Generally speaking, stress is a natural reaction to mental, physical or emotional pressure. And it can actually be both positive and negative. 6 . Here are four natural solutions to stress management.
Meditate (冥想) every day
A recent study stressed that meditating for just 30 minutes each day is the best way to relax yourself before going to bed. Practicing the mindfulness techniques delivered through meditation allows your body and mind to relax. 7 .
Do more exercise
Exercise helps to lift your mood and reduce anxiety, and can play a hugely significant role in dealing with the negative feelings of depression. 8 . Even if you are super-busy, setting aside just 15-20 minutes per day for exercise will have a significant impact on reducing your stress levels.
Buy a dog
9 . They can bring great joy to the people in a family. Spending just ten minutes with a dog has been proven to significantly reduce stress hormones (激素) in humans. While dogs are extremely clever, they are also simplistic animals. If you treat them right, they will love you back unconditionally.
Get quality sleep
Stress can affect the quality of your sleep and failing to sleep can cause more stress. 10 . Establishing a structured sleep schedule is the best way to get consistent quality sleep. Make sure you stay away from extensive stimulation (刺激) before sleep and keep digital devices such as smartphones well away from your bedroom.
A.It improves your chance of getting quality sleep
B.We all know that home dogs are man’s best friends
C.Therefore, we should learn to welcome stress in our daily life
D.Eventually that is a negative circle you need to avoid at all costs
E.Statistics show that people burn a lot of calories when doing extreme exercise
F.However, stress-related illnesses place a huge burden on health services worldwide
G.Studies have shown that active people are generally happier than those who are inactive
5.Tips for Starting a Plant-based Diet
The benefits of a plant-based diet are many — from increased energy and better heart health to helping fight climate change and saving money. 21 The following tips will help you ease your way into the world of plant-based eating.
Consider style and frequency. Some people decide right then and there that they will never eat a little meat again; some people select to slip into it slowly. 22 If you want to start slowly, you can start by giving up meat one day or more a week or during certain times of the day.
Don’t fall into the refined carb (碳水化合物) trap. We go vegetarian and replace that meat food in our diet with easy and inviting refined carbs: French fries, chips, you name it. They will not make you feel better; they will make you feel worse. Make sure to have healthy snacks around, and start your effort with a thoughtful menu plan. 23
Buy some cookbooks. While it might seem that the Internet’s plenty of food blogs have made cookbooks outdated, nothing could be further from the truth. 24 Having a few good ones will improve the pleasure of your cooking tasks at hand. Looking through the vegetarian section at a bookstore will introduce you to the wide variety of styles out there.
25 Eating out might be a luxury, but when you start a new eating plan, it can be a helpful resource. Learning how the professionals handle vegetarian cuisine can be inspiring. From high-end plant-based restaurants to your local supermarket salad bars, you can get a great sense of the wonderful range of flavors and possibilities that can be made without animal-based ingredients (原料) .
A.Eat out and call it research.
B.Study up on the nutrition of whole grains.
C.Cookbooks provide something that the Internet can’t.
D.That way, you don’t end up hungry and reaching for the carbs.
E.It’s a good idea to consider your style goals and start from there.
F.You’re making delicious, satisfying, amazing meals out of raw vegetables.
G.Not to mention the peace of mind with no longer eating cute cows and smart pigs.
6.The Brain Perceives Unexpected Pain More Strongly
Pain perception (感知) can vary significantly between individuals and even within the same person across different situations. In some cases, an injury or physical illness may lead to stronger pain than expected, while similar injuries at other times may result in much milder pain. This difference suggests that pain perception is not entirely determined by the physical injury itself. 26
27 One is the Estimate Hypothesis (假说), which suggests that the brain estimates the intensity of pain based on predictions it makes about the injury. The other is the Surprise Hypothesis, which argues that the brain feels pain as the difference between what it expects and what actually occurred. This difference, also known as the prediction gap, plays a key role in shaping how pain is experienced. 28 Healthy participants were subjected to painful hot-based stimuli (刺激), while observing visual signals in a virtual reality setting. These signals were either associated with painful or non-painful experiences. Participants were then asked to report their pain intensity.
The researchers discovered that pain perception becomes more intense as the prediction gap widens. This phenomenon occurs when the actual pain is much stronger than the brain’s expectations. Their findings suggest that the brain strengthens pain perception when there is a substantial difference between anticipated and actual pain levels. 29 It provides a more accurate framework for understanding how the brain processes pain. The study also revealed that unexpected events tend to increase pain, supporting the idea that the difference between expectation and reality causes pain to feel worse.
Individuals with persistent pain often experience uncertain fears and anxieties about their condition. This mismatch between their expectations and the actual experience of pain can further strengthen how strongly they perceive the pain. 30 Gaining deeper insights into how the brain processes pain could also contribute to the development of more effective treatments, ultimately improving recovery from persistent pain.
A.This evidence supports the Surprise Hypothesis.
B.It is also strongly influenced by individual expectations.
C.In this study, how the brain perceives pain was examined.
D.In contrast, the gap will determine the intensity of the pain one feels.
E.To explain this phenomenon, a new study has introduced two main assumptions.
F.The findings highlight the importance of psychological factors in pain management.
G.Narrowing this gap between expectation and reality may play a key role in reducing pain.
