Katie’s dad works on a ferry. All spring and summer he brings home stories about The Pirate, a wharf (船坞、码头) cat. Through her dad’s tales, Katie has come to respect this wild creature who takes delight in troubling dogs, kills wharf rats, and battles a seagull over possession of a piling near the wharf.
One pleasant fall night, after a week of cold and rain, Dad brought the poor injured cat home and said that he needed some care and a warm place to recover.
Although Mom isn’t fond of pets, she finds some soft rags to put around him. The next morning, he was awake when I stepped into the kitchen. Without raising his head, he curled up his lip and hissed (发出咝咝声) at me. “Stay away from him,” Mom ordered. “A pet he isn’t. You’d think he’d be a little more appreciative.” I took over preparing his food. The hissing lessened, but he never took his eyes off us, and his expression certainly did not say thank you.
The next time I fed him, I brought a book, and after putting down the food, I sat on the far side of the porch and started reading. That cat glared at me, but I ignored him. After almost half an hour, he began to slip out. I kept reading, and soon I could hear him eating the fish.
The next day, it took ten minutes for him to come out, and the day after that, only three minutes. I also began moving the bowl a little closer each day.
The Monday before Thanksgiving, I tried putting the bowl in my lap. He came and stood in front of me but would not come any farther. Finally he let out a yowl.
On Tuesday, I put a piece of fish in my hand and held it out to him. It took time, but he finally wolfed it down.
On Wednesday, when he took the last bite from my hand, I moved my finger slightly under his chin. He shrank back but didn’t run away.
On Thanksgiving, he actually let me pet him.

Be Kind to Every Kind
Growing up in a city, surrounded by tall buildings, Albert found animals to be a rare and attractive presence. However, while he loved animals, he never truly understood how to treat them with the respect they deserved.
His parents had noticed Albert’s lack of responsibility. They had long tried to teach him the value of patience and care, but city life seemed to fuel his impatience. They knew something had to change.
This winter break, Albert’s parents took him to visit his cousin Camille, who lived on a farm far from the city. Camille had learned from a young age how to care for animals. Albert’s parents hoped the trip would help him develop a deeper sense of responsibility and kindness – not just toward animals, but toward the world around him.
When they arrived at Camille’s farm, Camille greeted them warmly, her face shining with the satisfaction of farm life. “Ready to meet the animals in the barn (畜棚) ” she asked Albert.
Albert nodded eagerly.
Albert saw the sheep first. He bent down to get a closer look, his hand reaching out toward them. However, as soon as he moved, the sheep scattered (散开), their eyes wide with unease. Albert was confused. “Why did they run away ”
Camille smiled but explained gently, “They’re not used to sudden movements. Animals can get scared just like people. It’s important to be calm and patient with them.”
Next, they visited the cows. Albert thought they would be easy to approach, but when he tried to wave a carrot in front of one, it barely reacted. He impatiently moved closer, trying to get its attention, but the cow simply ignored him.
“It’s not a game, Albert,” Camille said, noticing his frustration (沮丧). “They’re not toys. You have to earn their trust. It’s just like being with people. If we rush or ignore their boundaries, they pull away, right ”
Albert hesitated. He had never considered that animals, like people, had their own boundaries and comfort zones.

Be Kind to Every Kind
Sarah had always dreamed of becoming a wildlife photographer. Every weekend, she would walk into the nearby forest, hoping to capture precious moments of animals in their natural habitat. However, after months of trying, she still hadn’t gotten that perfect shot she was looking for. Deer always ran away at the slightest sound, birds flew off before she could focus her lens(镜头), and her camera bag stayed full of empty memory cards. Frustration began to creep in, but Sarah refused to give up. She loved the forest, the fresh air, and the sense of peace it brought her, even if the animals didn’t always cooperate.
One chilly autumn morning, Sarah noticed something unusual—a young fox standing still near the edge of the forest. Her heart raced with excitement. “This could be my chance!” she thought, quickly pulling out her camera. She adjusted the lens and began to move closer, careful not to make any sudden movements. The fox didn’t run away; it just stood there, its gaze fixed on her. Sarah’s fingers trembled as she framed the shot, imagining the stunning image she could capture—the fox’s brilliant red coat against the golden autumn landscape.
As she peered through the viewfinder, she noticed something strange. The fox’s front paw was raised slightly, and its body seemed tense. She zoomed in and gasped—the paw was injured, possibly caught in a trap. The fox’s stillness wasn’t an opportunity for a perfect shot; it was a sign of pain and fear. Sarah’s excitement turned to concern in an instant. Her heart tightened as she looked into the animal’s eyes, seeing the silent plea(恳求)for help. Her photographer’s instinct urged her to take the shot—it would be powerful, emotional, and perfect.
But a stronger voice inside her whispered that some moments weren’t meant to be captured; they were meant to be acted upon. With trembling hands, she lowered her camera and reached for her phone instead to call the local wildlife rescue team.

It was one of those freezing nights we got here in Minnesota in the middle of winter. The dampness in the air got trapped and a curtain of fog sank all around, mixing with the snow on the ground and the strong snow falling from the sky to white out everything. Normally I wouldn’t drive in that kind of weather, but I’d been at a Tupperware party all evening, and I was so exhausted. The desire to be in the comfort of my own home beat my better judgment. However never had I imagined my little act could save my life on such a night.
I was only on the road for a minute before I regretted my decision not to stay put. The winding country road was totally deserted. My car’s headlights could barely cut through the heavy fog. The snow was getting heavier. A lot heavier. Everything beyond a few feet in front of me was a mystery. I drove slowly. I wasn’t quite sure where I was, though I knew there were railways specifically built for freight (货运) trains in this area. But in such weather, it was impossible to spot the tracks or any signs of an approaching train.
Trembling with cold, I turned up the heat. The loud blowers did their work, sheltering me from the bitter cold and the sound outside. Seemingly, everything went smoothly as I inched forward.
All at once, my headlights shone on a small animal in front of me, right at the farthest point they could reach. I hit the brakes-tires screeched (发嘎吱声) against the snow as the car was coming to a stop. When the world stopped spinning, taking a closer look, I found it was a brown rabbit, its fur covered with ice crystals in the headlights. I tapped the horn, no response. I tried again, yet the little creature remained rooted-it appeared unwilling to get out of the way. Curiously, I got out of the car and made my way toward it.

Jameson Lobb, a 24-year-old investment banker from Toronto, had just started his new job on Wall Street. He was sharing a New York City apartment with his college friend, Raphael Jafri, an artificial intelligence engineer. One lunchtime, while working out on Pier (水上码头) 15, overlooking the East River, Lobb suddenly froze. “Someone’ s in the water,” he said. Without hesitation, he climbed over the rail and jumped into the cold, polluted river, still wearing his shoes.
Jafri didn’t see the victim but trusted Lobb’s instincts. “Maybe he saw someone in trouble,” he thought. “Or maybe he needs my help.” Without delay, Jafri kicked off his shoes and dove in after his friend.
Lobb reached the unconscious man first. He was middle-aged, well-dressed, and weighed about 200 pounds. The man was sinking fast, already three feet below the surface. Lobb dove down, grabbed him, and kicked upward until they both resurfaced. By then, Jafri had arrived. Together, they floated the man on his back, with Jafri supporting his shoulders and Lobb holding his hips and knees. The water was swirling (旋动), and their muscles burned as they struggled to pull the heavy, lifeless body toward the pier.
The man’s skin was blue, and he wasn’t breathing. When they finally reached Pier 15, they faced another challenge: how to get out. The pier’s deck was 10 feet above them, and the water’s surface was covered in sharp shellfish. Jafri, barefoot, couldn’t climb without injuring himself.
Suddenly, the man stirred (微动), breathing again. In his confusion, he lashed out, hitting Jafri in the face before slipping back into unconsciousness. The two friends, exhausted and struggling, now had to find a way to save themselves and the man they had risked everything to rescue.

The Summer That Changed Me
I was born with a fear of water. At twelve, while classmate splashed joy fully in the pool, I sat shivering on the edge, my toes barely touching the surface. “It’s like liquid darkness,” I told my mother, imagining invisible hands dragging me down. My parents tried swimming lessons, but progress was painfully slow. The instructor’s frustrated sighs still echoed in my memories. “Maybe water just isn’t for everyone,” he finally said.
Everything changed when Coach Zhang entered my life. With her silver whistle and endless patience, she approached teaching differently. “Fear is natural,” he said during our first session. “But courage is a choice.” We started with blowing bubbled, progressed to floating while singing nursery rhymes, and eventually played underwater treasure hunts with rubber rings, She celebrated every small victory, even when I managed to hold my breath underwater for three seconds.
The turning point came in July. Coach Zhang blindfolded me during practice. “Listen to the water’s song,” she instructed as darkness enveloped me. My throat tightened, but her steady voice anchored me: “Let it lift you, not fight you.” Suddenly, the terrifying emptiness became a supportive embrace. That day, I swam ten meters unaided. Coach Zhang’s applause sounded louder than the pool’s filtration (过滤) system.
“By summer’s end, I earned my Level 2 swimming certificate. The real test came during our beach graduation. As others moved slowly in the shallow water, I walked into the foamy surf. Saltwater stung my nostrils (鼻孔) as I dove through an incoming wave, emerging breathless but triumphant. My father’s camera captured mother wiping happy tears. The ocean, once my nightmare, now felt like an old friend.
Now at sixteen, I volunteer at the community pool. That summer taught me more than swimming — it revealed how facing fears can reshape destinies. Coach Zhang’s words stay with me: “What we conquer in water prepares us for life’s storms.”

It was a sunny Saturday morning. Tom, a passionate hiker, set out on a trail in the mountains. The path was narrow but well-marked, winding through thick forests and across bubbling brooks (小溪). As he walked deeper into the mountains, he noticed the sky gradually becoming cloudy.
Suddenly, a strong gust of wind blew through the trees, making them sway violently. Tom realized a storm was approaching. He quickened his pace, looking for shelter. Just then, he saw a small, abandoned cabin (小木屋) by the side of the trail. Its roof was partially damaged, but it was better than nothing. Tom rushed inside and started to look around. It was dirty and filled with spider webs, but in a corner, he found an old flashlight. He hoped it still worked.
As the storm hit, the rain poured down in sheets and thunder roared. Lightning flashed, lighting up the dark interior of the cabin. Tom sat on the floor, waiting for the storm to pass. After what seemed like hours, the rain finally began to ease. Tom decided to head back home before it got dark.
He stepped out of the cabin and started walking back along the trail. But the storm had caused several landslides, blocking parts of the path. Tom had to carefully climb over rocks and fallen trees. As he was making his way, he heard a faint cry for help. It seemed to be coming from a nearby ravine (沟壑).
Tom stopped and listened carefully. The cry came again, more desperate this time. He knew he had to find out where it was coming from. He tied a rope he had brought to a solid tree near the edge of the ravine and slowly started to go down to a lower level, using the flashlight to guide his way.

As the school year wrapped up and the first days of summer vacation stretched out before them, Max, Ava, and Sam had a perfect day planned at their usual community park. This tidy little park was their go - to spot for unwinding and just enjoying some precious leisure time.
Max rushed ahead with a soccer ball under his arm, Ava and Sam trailing closely behind, full of energy. It was the kind of day that promised endless fun and carefree laughter. But as they stepped into the park, their heart sank. The once - beloved playground was now a chaotic mess of discarded trash (乱扔的垃圾) — candy wrappers stuck in the slide’s metal bars, plastic bottles rolling in the wind, and chip bags lying underfoot.
“Look at this!” Ava shouted in disbelief as she pointed to the garbage near the swings.
Max’s face darkened with frustration. The three friends stood frozen, their eyes scanning the playground area. The once clean slides and swings were now buried under a layer of candy wrappers and plastic bottles. Ava cast a glance (瞥一眼) at the walking trails, where garbage seemed to have taken over, with discarded bags and cans lying everywhere. Sam looked out at the grassy fields — a disaster. The park was vast, but every corner seemed to have been touched by the carelessness of others.
“Who would be so thoughtless ” Max whispered, shaking his head.
Sam kicked a plastic bottle in anger, sending it flying across the grass. “It’s not just thoughtless — it’s disrespectful.”
Ava sighed thoughtfully but suddenly her face lit up. “We can’t just leave it like this. Why don’t we do something about it We can, say, form a Cleanup Squad (清洁小分队)…” she said, her voice soft but determined.

The Unexpected Help
It was a cold, gloomy afternoon in early November. Mia, a 17-year-old high school student, was rushing to catch the last bus home after a long day at school. Her mind was preoccupied with a challenging math test she had just completed. The wind was biting, and the sky had been threatening rain all day. She had forgotten her umbrella at home, and now, as she stood at the bus stop, she could feel the first drops of rain falling, chilling her skin.
Mia sighed, pulling her jacket tighter around her body. The cold made her shiver, and she wished she had remembered to bring the umbrella. Her parents were both working late, and she didn’t have enough money for a taxi. The thought of walking home in this weather made her feel miserable. The last thing she wanted was to get soaked and catch a cold. She glanced down at her phone, but the bus app showed no sign of the bus arriving anytime soon.
As she waited, her mind wandered back to the pressures of school. She had been struggling with her grades recently, and the thought of facing another disappointed look from her parents made her stomach churn. Just as the rain began to fall more heavily, a car pulled up beside her. The window rolled down, and a man in his early thirties, dressed in a business suit, called out to her. “Excuse me, are you waiting for the bus ”
Mia looked up, surprised by the sudden question. She hadn’t expected anyone to speak to her, especially not a stranger. She nodded cautiously. “Yes, I am.”
The man smiled kindly, noticing her discomfort: “It looks like it’s going to rain heavily. I’m heading in the same direction. Would you like a ride to the next bus stop It’s not safe to stand out here in this weather.”
Mia hesitated. She had always been taught to be careful with strangers, but the man seemed genuinely concerned, and the rain was coming down harder. After a brief pause, she nodded. “Okay, thank you.”

At this festive time of the year when November turns to December and Christmas approaches, an incident from the past surfaces in my mind, a moment that inspired me to always seek out opportunities to lend a helping hand.
It was nearly twenty years ago, a period when my children were still in their teenage years full of vitality and constantly evolving preferences. I had grown tired of attempting to predict their Christmas wishes, so each year, we took a long car trip to a Shopping Mall. There, I gave them each an envelope stuffed with cash, allowing them to choose exactly what their hearts desired: This specific year, I had thoughtfully saved an extra hundred dollars, intending to treat myself to a few gifts. However, as I walked the length of the Mall, I found myself unable to find anything that truly resonated (产生共鸣) with me.
As we finally climbed into the car, ready to depart, I started the engine and began navigating towards the main road. It was then, amidst the hum of traffic and the glow of streetlights, that I caught sight of her — a homeless woman standing by the roadside. She looked much older than her age. She was dressed in a torn, threadbare coat. er gray hair was tangled (缠结) and clumped together in a messy mass. Her face was chapped (皲裂的) from the winter wind. But the thing that struck me most was her eyes. She had the saddest eyes that I had ever seen.

“Hey, Isaac! ” Dayna said. There was a touch of awkwardness in her voice. “Feeling ready for this year’s baking competition ” Dayna’s initiative greetings really surprised me.
“Do I look worried ” I forced a polite smile. To be honest, I had been hoping to fix our relationship but worried about being turned down and making things worse.
Dayna and I used to be best friends. Our shared love for baking brought us together, leading us to join Mrs Cooper’s baking classes. We always supported each other during the lessons, which greatly enhanced our baking skills. Last year, I cheered for her to win the championship, but we were in such an embarrassing situation just because of an argument.
“Prepare to be amazed, ” I said. She shot me a doubtful look. “We’ll see. ” Today was the day of this year’s competition, whose theme was “cupcakes”. We entered the kitchen at the Students’ Baking Club, where we attended baking classes every Saturday. Family and friends filled a makeshift seating area. After explaining the competition consisted of two rounds, Mrs. Cooper announced the official start of the competition. Immediately, all the contestants quickly dived into their work.
As I was working on my creations, I couldn't help glancing (瞥见) at Dayna now and then because I was so used to checking on her when baking. Dayna, on the other hand, was completely focused. Her hands were moving skillfully as she measured, mixed, and poured. She didn’t seem to be affected by our current relationship at all, or maybe she was just better at hiding it.
Everything went very well. Soon, Mrs. Cooper announced that Dayna, two other contestants, and I were advancing to the final round. In this round, I got right into my zone. When I was young, my father was a secondary school teacher in Edensor, England. As the breadwinner, he was deeply engaged in his school responsibilities during my childhood. Consequently, I often felt distant from him because he had few moments to talk or interact with me. My mother, a full-time housewife, managed the household and took care of my younger bother and me, busting around the kitchen, bedrooms and grocery stores. The back garden of our house was a special place for me; it was not only a secure spot for kids but also my dad’s favorite hobby area. Whenever he was home, he would spend most of his spare time looking after his treasured roses, which my mother also adored.
My father would care for his roses with great devotion and affection. Often, I would watch beside him, curious or eager for his attention, but he was usually preoccupied (全神贯注). He regularly watered the roses, cleaned the leaves, loosened and turned over the soil, and fed them with essential nutrients. His expectation was the joy and sweetness brought by their blossoming.
One day, I saw him cut off some branches and stems. Then, with a sharp knife, he carefully made marks on the main branches. He cut open the marked spots to insert sprouts (嫩枝) into those new cuts and wrapped them with bandages. After all his efforts, he reminded us never to touch them. From then on, whenever my father returned home from work, he would go straight to tend to those plants.
Within a month, we all witnessed the entire process: tender stems grow, form buds, and finally bear blossoms in various colors. The garden soon became a place of immense beauty, filled with rose blossoms and surrounded by their sweet fragrance. My parents truly enjoyed themselves there, and so did my brother Tommy and I. Those roses brought us immense happiness, and no one, especially me, wanted to let go of such beauty.

I had a long and tiring day at school. My head was aching by the time I reached home. Streams of sweat were running down my face, and my T-shirt was wet. I felt like I had run a marathon, and my energy had completely run out. I managed to unlock the door with my fingerprint. As usual, it was silent and nobody was at home. Mother and Father wouldn’t be back from work until 8:00 p. m. They were totally engaged in their work, and it seemed that I was the last one they cared about. I knew I should be tough and independent, but sometimes I just couldn’t help recalling the nice days when I could stay with my parents for a whole day.
Kicking off my shoes, I let my backpack slide down my arms, and onto the floor. Dragging myself slowly to the coffee table, I sank onto the sofa and closed my eyes. Falling asleep, I was unconscious to the fever that was developing in my body.
“Shayne Shayne, wake up!” I could hear Mother’s distant voice, gentle yet urgent. I tried to shake the tiredness off, but my head was heavy. “Wake up, son,” I could feel Father’s big, warm hand on my forehead. I heard him say, “He’s running a fever. We’ve got to send him to the doctor. His temperature is rather high.” I tried to speak, but my words were lost in a fog of weariness (疲惫) and discomfort. Father lifted me off the sofa, and what followed was an unclear memory—I couldn’t even remember how we traveled from home to the clinic and back. But in my half-conscious state, I was aware of Mother’s loving hands wiping my face with a damp towel that was cold to the touch.

300 理解父亲 记叙文 家庭生活是每个人的日常事物,家庭成员之间的亲情是最珍贵的,家庭成员之间的故事感人至深。
Ever since I was a child, Dad had been working hard. He’d worked as a telegraph operator on the railroad and added his earnings selling old pocket watches at the markets. “We needed the money. For a rainy day,” he always said.
When I was 10 years old, I bought an ice cream, Daddy’s favorite, with the first dollar I earned by doing odd jobs in the neighborhood. I thought he’d be pleased. He looked up and indeed smiled. But as he took a taste of it, he warned, “Don’t be squandering (乱花) all your hard-earned money on this again. You should be putting something away for rainy days.” I tried hard to fight back tears. I was quite disappointed.
When I was a little older, I studied piano. I knew how proud he’d be of the way I played The Londonderry Air. But at the last minute of my first performance, Daddy couldn’t come. He had to work overtime. We needed the money. For a rainy day. Didn’t he care about my happiness
One day he showed me what my happiness was worth.
After I studied nursing and pursued my career, I started to raise a dog, Muffin, and she became my soul mate. I had to drop her off at my friend’s when I had a business trip. One time, Muffin jumped the fence in my friend’s backyard and raced off. No one could find her.
“I’m so sorry, Roberta,” Mom said, covering a blanket around me on the sofa. “Your father is worried too.”

Kwan’s Secret Talent
“Kwan, isn’t that your art teacher ” his grandmother said, pointing at a woman walking out of the grocery store.
Kwan waved, and Mrs. Gibbs walked over to him and his grandmother. “It’s very nice to see you,” Mrs. Gibbs said. Then she saw the cloths wrapped around the groceries Kwan and his grandmother were loading into their car. “Oh, how beautiful!” she exclaimed.
“Thank you. These are our hometown wrapping cloths,” grandmother explained. “Kwan and I embroidered (刺绣) them together.”
Kwan looked away. Although he enjoyed helping grandmother make the cloths, he didn’t want anyone at school to know about it.
“Kwan, you should bring your cloths to school tomorrow. Your classmates would enjoy seeing them. You have a unique skill,” Mrs. Gibbs said.
Kwan appreciated his teacher’s comments, but he was hesitant. The kids might laugh at the idea of a boy who liked to stitch (缝) patterns with a needle and thread. He thought about his grandmother’s wide smile that showed how proud of him she would be for sharing this custom.
“O.K. I’ll bring some to class tomorrow,” Kwan replied quietly.
Grandma sensed that something was wrong. “Kwan, are you worried about tomorrow ” she asked.
Kwan stared at the floor. “What are the other kids going to think ” he said. “This isn’t the kind of thing they do for fun. Creating embroidered patterns isn’t like playing an instrument or a sport.”
“You’re right,” Grandma said. “It is different. But that is why it is so special.” Then she brought out a fine cloth with different designs. “When your grandfather and I were married, we received a gift from his mother wrapped in this cloth she made. In our culture, gifts given in wrapping cloths are extra special because they are a symbol of love and good luck.” she explained.

Growing up, I was always shy and unconfident in myself. Aside from my parents, I felt others found my shyness difficult to accept. It used to be something that affected my life in the most negative way possible. It made me unable to talk in any setting in which I felt uncomfortable. This means that I wasn’t even able to speak in class, chat with my friends, order my own food, etc.
At the 5th grade, my parents moved to a neighbouring city because of the job relocation and I changed schools. I found myself in a new classroom with a new teacher, whom we called Ms. S, surrounded by 30 new faces. This was fairly terrifying. And so when I was asked to stand up and introduce myself, I was trembling.
Still then, I was labelled as “shy and quiet”. I didn’t have a lot of friends, only spoke in class if I really had to, kept everything to myself, avoided public events, and panicked badly at the thought of oral presentations in class.
This haunted (萦绕) me until one day, Ms. S announced in class that each of us was going to be singing a solo in front of the class. I’d had no idea that this was going to happen. When it was my turn, she called me up to the front, instructed the piano player to begin and I very unwillingly sang “Cuckoo, cuckoo, pray what do you do...” in a barely audible, high-pitched voice, with the rest of silent children staring up at me. Ms. S stood next to the piano, saying: “Louder! Louder! ” But I didn’t know how to project my voice; I couldn’t make it any louder.
I was really upset at it. I cried for a few hours. I suspected my childhood shyness was largely unsupported in the new school. This even made me not want to go to school.

The iron gates of Sunshine Nursing Home got opened as 16-year-old Tim stepped inside, his sneakers stepping on the autumn leaves on the ground. The hall was filled with the smell of air freshener. Elderly residents sat nodding in wheelchairs or played chess with trembling hands, lost in their own worlds. His volunteering here was a part of his school requirements.
Every Saturday, Tim found himself unwillingly volunteering at Sunshine Nursing Home. His tasks included assisting Mr. Johnson in the woodworking room and reading newspapers to Mrs. Clark in her room. Although he was initially forced, he began to find a sense of purpose in his work.
As he wandered through the nursing home, Tim found Mr. Johnson’s woodworking room lay away behind the laundry area. The walls were decorated with half-carved birds and a sign that read, “Measure twice, cut once.” The 78-year-old craftsman, with tough hands, guided Tim’s hands as they sanded (打磨) wood boards together. When Tim accidentally hurt a table leg with his iron tool, Mr. Johnson said, “Wood remembers every mistake. Wood never lies. Let your hands feel its truth.”
On the other side of the building, Mrs. Clark’s sunlit room was a clear contrast. Overflowing with many books, it was a shelter for the former teacher, who was legally blind. Whenever Tim read newspaper articles to her, she would tap her pearl-ringed finger gently. “Young man,” she encouraged him, putting her head to one side so her cat-eye glasses caught the light, “Words dance when you give them breath, dear. Even stock market reports deserve passion!” Her laughter, like wind chimes (风铃), covered up the loneliness Tim sometimes saw when her fingers felt over her family photos on the piano.
As the weeks passed, Tim learned to carve maple leaves under Mr. Johnson’s guidance and practiced reading with more expression to Mrs. Clark. One October afternoon, both the elders fell silent when they heard about the nursing home’s upcoming talent show. Tim noticed Mrs. Clark’s trembling hands catching an old violin case under her armchair, meaning something she intended to do.

Born in a poor neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan, John always had a hard life, growing up with a single mother, who worked two jobs to make ends meet. He had no father figure, no role model and no tutor. He had to make a living for himself while facing the dangers and temptations of the streets.
He had a great passion for football, though. He loved watching it on TV, playing it with his friends, and even dreaming about it at night. He had a natural talent for the game, with speed, strength, agility (敏捷) and vision. He could read the quarterback’s eyes, anticipate the receiver’s route, and make the perfect tackle or interception (拦截). He was eager to be a professional football player playing in the National Football League (NFL) and his lifelong ambition was to become a superstar in sports. He was burning to make his mother proud, to give her a better life and to escape the poverty and violence surrounding them. But despite his incredible talent, he always lacked the confidence. Beyond this, he had no opportunity or hope.
Day by day, he became discouraged and had no option but to go to a low-performing high school where there was no football program, no equipment, and even no professional coach. He was ready to give up his dream to settle for a life of mediocrity (平庸). But then, he met Coach Carter.
Coach Carter was a former NFL player, who had retired after a successful career. He had won two Super Bowls with the team, regarded as one of the best safeties of all time. He had moved back to Detroit after his retirement, and had started a youth football program in John’s neighborhood. Puppies for Sale
A shop owner placed a sign above his door that read, “Puppies for Sale.” As we know, signs like this always have a way of appealing to young children, and to no one’s surprise, a little boy appeared by the shop owner’s sign and approached the owner. “Excuse me, how much are you going to sell the puppies for ” he asked.
The shop owner replied, “For anything between $30 and $50.”
The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change from it. “I have $2. 37 on me,” he said in a low voice. “Can I please look at them ”
The shop owner smiled and whistled. Out of the doghouse came the mother dog, who ran down the passage of his shop, followed by five tiny ball of fur. One puppy was moving slowly and fell behind. In no time the little boy picked out the slow puppy and asked, “What’s wrong with that little dog ”
The shop owner explained that the vet had examined the little puppy and had discovered that one of his back legs was injured. He would always walk slowly and with difficulty. He would be lame (瘸的).
Hearing what the shop owner had said, the little boy became excited, “That is the little puppy I want to buy.”
The shop owner said, “No, you don’t want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I’ll just give him to you.”
The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the shop owner’s eyes and said, “I don’t want you to give him to me. When my husband asked me what I wanted for the coming festival, I replied, “The Famous Five series.” His first response was, “What’s that ” I had to explain. He knew there was loss and sadness associated with moving so many times, and that I’d lost some material things along the way. What I hadn’t explained quite yet was my desire to connect with my past through the books I’d enjoyed as a child.
During our elementary school years in Austria, I would frequent the British bookshop in Vienna. During those visits, I acquired all twenty-one books in the Famous Five series by the British author Enid Blyton. I enjoyed reading about the adventures of the “Five”, which included siblings(兄妹)Julian, Dick, and Anne as well as their cousin Georgina and her dog Timmy. The stories feature funny plots centering on catching bad people—quite extraordinary, considering the heroes were mere teenagers! The books were my passports to adventures I’d never experienced in my own life.
Unfortunately, my family had to move to the United States quite abruptly due to a health emergency. My parents had to make difficult decisions about what to bring to America. Since books were heavy, my parents were unable to bring most of my books with them, including the Famous Five series. I was heartbroken!
Fast forward to seven years into my marriage, some seventeen years after I’d left my treasured Famous Five series behind, I decided I wanted to acquire my books for a holiday. I’d been searching the Internet for the series but got disappointed, because no American book publishers or websites had the books. We could have bought them on a foreign website, but we were nervous about using our credit card that way.
The festival eventually arrived and my husband, daughter, and I sat around the table. We traditionally opened one present and each of us picked a gift. My daughter opened hers first, and then my husband. I eyed my chosen present, a colorfully wrapped box, and guessed what it might be. “An elephant ” my daughter smiled. “Oh, let’s end the suspense!” I said and began tearing the wrapping.

“You ate them for money. You can eat them for love.” These words from Mum haunted me for years.
The pea incident took place at the Biltmore Hotel, which, to my eight-year-old mind, was just about the fanciest place to eat in the whole world. My grandmother, my mother and I were having lunch after a morning spent shopping. I grandly ordered a Salisbury steak, confident in the knowledge that beneath that fancy name was a good old hamburger with gravy (肉汁). When brought to the table, it was accompanied by a plate of peas.
I do not like peas now. I did not like peas then. I have always hated peas. It is a complete mystery to me why anyone would voluntarily eat peas. I did not eat them at home. I did not eat them at restaurants. And Icertainly was not about to eat them now.
“Eat your peas,” said my grandmother, who had started staying with us since my grandfather died two months before.
“Mother,” said my mum in her warning voice. “He doesn't like peas. Leave him alone.”
My grandmother did not reply, but there was something in her eyes that signaled she was not going to give up. She leaned in my direction, looked me in the eye, and uttered the fateful words that changed my life: “I'll pay you five dollars if you eat those peas.”
I had absolutely no idea of the doom (厄运) that was going to happen. I only knew that five dollars was an enormous, nearly unimaginable amount of money, and awful as peas were, only one plate of them stood between me and the possession of that five dollars.
My mum glared at her mother, who wore a self-satisfied look of someone who had thrown down an unbeatable trump card.

【参考范文】
Possible version 1:
On Thanksgiving, he actually let me pet him. When I scratched under his chin, he half-closed his eyes and looked up at me with an expression that wasn’t disagreeable. Things seemed to be going pretty well. He stopped trying to escape and seemed glad to see me. It seemed we had a pet. Spring came. The Pirate sat and stared in the direction of the sea. He started trying to slip out the door again. Dad said hat he missed his old life by the water. Even with all our care, life on the porch wasn’t enough. Sadly, we agreed that he was not a happy cat and decided to take it back to the wharf.
On Dad’s next evening off, we put The Pirate in a box and drove down to the wharf. As we opened the box, he peered out, his eyes instantly lighting up at the familiar smell of the sea. He bounded out with excitement, running along the docks, meowing loudly. He leaped onto his favorite piling, looking back at us every now and then. I felt a flash of sadness, but also a sense of relief. Just then, a seagull dived down, and The Pirate immediately got into a defensive posture, ready for their usual battle. Watching him, I knew we’d made the right decision. This was his world, and he was thriving in it.
Possible version 2:
On Thanksgiving, he actually let me pet him. His soft fur felt warm under my hand, and his gentle murmuring filled the room, creating a heartwarming atmosphere. I was overjoyed, sharing the news with my parents right away. Mom, who had been skeptical at first, couldn’t help but smile, seeing the transformation in the once - wild cat. We spent the whole day together, with The Pirate even joining us for a bit of the Thanksgiving feast. However, I knew that the wharf was his true home. Despite the bond we’d formed, I thought it was time to let him return to where he belonged.
On Dad’s next evening off, we put The Pirate in a box and drove down to the wharf. His eyes sparkled like emerald flames as he bounded out of the box and dashed towards the dock. Just before he disappeared under it, he turned to us, wagged his tail, and yowled long and loud. Then he was gone. Dad comes home with new stories to tell about The Pirate. He’s still one tough character. When I go down to the dock, The Pirate usually shows up to share a snack. I really miss him around the house, though. I guess Mom does, too, because tonight she suggested we visit the animal shelter to see if we could find a yellow tiger kitten who wants the job of being our pet.

Later in the afternoon, Camille led Albert to feed the young sheep. She handed him a handful of grass and demonstrated how to approach the animals quietly and slowly. Albert followed her instructions, moving carefully and extending his hand. One sheep carefully stepped forward and smelled the food in his hand. A sense of achievement filled Albert’s heart as he remained calm and continued offering the grass. Camille smiled, watching him. “It’s about kindness,” she said gently. “When you respect their space, they’ll trust you.”
That evening, Albert’s parents entered the barn, surprised by what they saw. Albert sat on the grass-covered floor, surrounded by the lambs, who were now comfortable with him. He was talking to them softly and petting them. His parents stood in the doorway, watching him with interest. Albert looked up and noticed their surprised expressions. “Animals aren’t just here for us to play with,” he said. “They have feelings too. I think I understand now.” His mother smiled, realizing that Albert had grasped the importance of kindness and respect for all living beings.

Moments later, some rescue workers arrived with equipment and medicine. After quickly assessing the situation, they approached the fox cautiously, bent down and talked softly to calm the frightened animal. Then the fox’s paw was carefully released from the trap. No sooner had they applied medicine to the wound than the fox showed signs of relief. Sarah, watching the rescue unfold before her eyes, realized this was far more precious than any photograph she could have taken. Right then, Sarah decided to join the rescue team as a volunteer.
Being a volunteer for the rescue team, Sarah never forgot her dream. Profoundly moved by the fox incident, she committed herself to combining her passion for photography with her newfound mission. Whenever she went into the forest with her camera, she kept an eye out for any animals in need. Her photos evolved to tell deeper stories — carrying both beauty and conservation. Little did she know that her decision to help that fox would transform her photography and her entire perspective on the relationship between humans and nature.

Getting near, I found its leg stuck in a trap. Its eyes locked onto mine—wide and desperate, and its nose twitched in panic, as if begging for help. Despite the freezing wind biting through my coat, I knelt down. “Hold on,” I whispered, trying to loosen the trap with numb fingers. The little creature stopped struggling, staring at me with a mix of fear and hope. My gloves were already wet, but I ignored. I determined to save this little life, forgetting about everything around.
Just as I was freeing the rabbit from the trap, a train whooshed (呼啸) by. The fog swirled, and the train’s dark shape with faint light was briefly visible before disappearing into the heavy fog, leaving only the steam behind. In that split second, I realized: had I not stopped for the rabbit, my car would have been on those hidden tracks. My heart pounded violently. After pulling myself together, I finally loosened the trap and the rabbit hopped away. This encounter became a constant reminder that in a world with uncertainties, kindness has its own reward.

I knew I had to act quickly, but I also knew I could do it.

“Mom, look at that lady,” one of my children said softly, her voice tinged with concern.

“I see her,” I replied, slowing the car to a stop. I opened the car door and stepped outside. As I approached the homeless woman, she looked up, her sad eyes meeting mine with a mixture of hope and skepticism. I felt a pang of guilt wash over me as I realized how easily I had forgotten about the less fortunate during this festive season. “Excuse me,” I called out gently, “We have some money and some food in the car. Would you like some help ” My children, sensing the significance of the moment, hustled over in a rush as well, their faces alight with curiosity and compassion.
The woman hesitated for a moment, but eventually agreed. Her voice trembled as she whispered, “Thank you, thank you so much.” My children quickly grabbed the bags of food and the envelope of money that I had prepared, handing them to her with genuine smiles.
But I quickly realized I hadn’t packed the chocolates that I used for decorating. It was my magic weapon for winning! Sweat rolling down my face, I didn’t know what to do.

329 父子关系 记叙文 家庭生活是每个人的日常事物,家庭成员之间的亲情是最珍贵的,家庭成员之间的故事感人至深。

One sunny day, I decided to do something as my dad had done to have more roses. Without telling anyone, I took a pair of scissors and began my “gardening project”. I carefully selected a few branches, and with trembling hands, I made the first cut, hoping it would lead to a new rose. I then made clumsy marks on the remaining stems and tried to insert any twigs I could find. The garden soon turned into a chaotic scene, with cut branches and scattered leaves everywhere. I was so absorbed in my work that I failed to notice how much of a mess I had created, thinking I was on my way to making the garden even more beautiful.
Later that day, when my dad saw the great mess I had made, he was totally shocked. He froze in his tracks and his eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the damaged roses. At first, I was terrified, fearing his anger. But instead of scolding, he gently asked why I did this. I tearfully told him I wanted more roses like he did. He took a deep breath, his initial shock giving way to a gentle smile. Kneeling beside me, he placed a hand on my shoulder and said, “Let me show you how it’s really done.” From that day on, he spent more time teaching me about gardening, and our relationship bloomed like those beautiful roses in the garden.

300 父母照顾生病的自己 记叙文 家庭生活是每个人的日常事物,家庭成员之间的亲情是最珍贵的,家庭成员之间的故事感人至深。
His temperature is rather high.”
