is a type of...”)和因果逻辑(due to, because of)。
重点:关注过渡词(however, in contrast)和指代词(this method, such phenomena),避免逻
骤(如“Step 2 in the process”)。
科技类:innovation(创新), sustainable(可持续的), automated(自动化的)
环保类:recyclable(可回收的), emission(排放), ecosystem(生态系统)
文化类:heritage(遗产), craftsmanship(工艺), traditional technique(传统技艺)
“A is characterized by...”(A 的特征是...)
“The reason lies in...”(原因在于...)
improvement”)。

Dogs can be our best friends, but we must understand the signs they give us to stay safe!
Never go up to a barking (犬吠) dog, even if you think it is a happy bark. Wait for the dog
to be calm before you pet it.
Never take a toy off your dog. It may show its teeth, or open its mouth angrily to try to take
the toy back and bite you by mistake!
When a dog is giving you a “Play Bow”, it lowers its front and wags (摇摆) its tail. At that
time, it is happy and wants to play.
If a dog seems scared, it might bite. So, stay away from a dog who is hiding, growling (低
吼) and running away from you, or one who is barking, shaking and holding its tail between its
legs. These are signs of fear. You should leave the dog alone and don’t look it in the eyes.
Never go up to a dog while it is eating because it may think you want some of its food and
might bite you to keep you from taking its meal away.
Don’t go up to a sleeping dog as you may scare it when you wake it up by touching it and it
might bite you by accident.
All dogs need a walk every day, but always remember to keep it safe by walking it with a
lead (狗绳).

Art is nice to see, but do you know that looking at a real painting can make you more
emotional (易动感情的) than looking at a photo of it
Some brain experts did a study at a museum in The Hague, a city in the Netherlands. The
museum has a very famous painting called Girl with a Pearl Earring by a Dutch artist named
Johannes Vermeer. It was painted a long time ago, in 1665.
The brain experts used special tools to see how people looked at paintings. They had a
machine that could see where people were looking and a brain scanner (扫描仪) called an EEG:
They asked people to look at the real paintings and then look at posters of the same paintings in
the museum shop.
The study found that people felt 10 times more emotional when they looked at the real
paintings than the posters of the same paintings. The part of the brain that is the most active is the
part that helps us know who we are and what’s going on around us.
The group of people in the study had a very strong reaction (反应) to Girl with a Pearl
Earring. They looked at the girl’s left eye, then her mouth, then the pearl -earring, and then back
to her eyes. They kept doing this, which made them look at the painting for a longer time.
The person in charge of the museum, Martine Gosselink, said that this study showed how
important it was to enjoy art in real life, not just in photos. She said it helped our brains grow. The
researchers also said it would be fun to do this study with other famous paintings, like the Mona
Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

It’s often believed that only grown-ups can make a difference. Is it true Teen Vogue
interviewed some teenagers across the world. Get ready to be inspired (启发).
16-year-old Michael started using social media to cheer up teenagers of his age to follow
their dreams on his baseball blogs. Michael also wrote about sports people and how they would

Do you know full confidence in your memory Look at the two pictures and choose the one
which you think is correct. Then check with the answer.
Answer: The one on the right is correct. Pikachu never had a black tail in any of its various
versions. Its yellow tail does have brown fur at its base, but there is no sign of black fur on its tail.
There has been a discussion about whether it is shi or si in the sentence “Thus when Heaven
is about to confer a great office on any man…”
Most people voted si as what they learned at school. However, People’s Education Press
(PEP), a leading publisher of Chinese textbooks, claimed on Oct. 26 that all its textbooks say shi.
Supporters of si feel shocked and say they’ve experienced the “Mandela Effect” — the
situation in which a large number of people believe that an event happened when it didn’t.
Many people believed that former South African president Nelson Mandela died in the
1980s in prison. However, Mandela was alive and well, eventually passing away in 2013. US
researchers Fiona Broome created a website to detail her discovery of this public phenomenon,
coining the term (术语) which has been in use till now.
Some often joke that our memories have been changed by a strange force. In fact,
psychologists have looked into the reasons for the Mandela Effect, as reported on the US-based
website Verywell Mind.
For example, your mind may fill in gaps missing in your memory to make more sense of it,
which is called confabulation (虚构症). However, try not to feel bad — this is not lying, but
rather remembering details that never happened.
The internet may be another reason why we tend to have Mandela Effect events, as the
news we read can be false from the beginning. In 2018, Science journal published a study of over
100,000 news stories discussed across Twitter. It showed that false news can spread faster and
reach more people than the truth. As a powerful way to spread information, the internet might be
the main reason for falsehoods to enter our minds.
1.Why does the writer mention the discussion about the sentence in Paragraph 3
A.To solve a mystery of Mandela Effect.
B.To raise readers’ interest in confabulation.
C.To introduce the topic of the Mandela Effect.
D.To discuss which word is the right one, si or shi.
2.Which of the following words has the closest meaning to “coining” in Paragraph 6
A.Inventing. B.Borrowing. C.Describing. D.Correcting.
3.How does the writer further explain the Mandela Effect
A.By showing pictures. B.By giving examples.
C.By presenting reasons. D.By drawing conclusions.
4.What can we infer from the passage
A.Most people know the former South African president Mandela well.
B.The word si or shi both existed in Chinese textbooks published by the PEP.
C.If you can tell the right Pikachu, you will never suffer from the Mandela Effect.
D.If you remember details that never happened, you may experience the Mandela Effect.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.D

Linda is looking through the website http://ww.. Here is what she reads.
Researchers have found the health benefits of dancing for people in poor health condition, from
improving brain health to creating community.
Becky is teaching a group of 80 adults some dancing skills. Many of her students are seated
in the dancing room because they have difficulty in moving. When they are following Becky’s
pretty movements, a sense of peace comes over them.
Dance as a medicine
Helen, a researcher, says that dance requires different parts of the brain to work at the same
time, that is to say, dance requires more “brain power” than simpler repetitive (重复的) exercises.
She invited two groups of adults to take part in programmes for over six months. One group
practised dancing and the other did a traditional exercise like cycling. Both groups improved their
level of physical fitness, but the group of dancers improved more cognitive abilities, such as
memory, attention and high-level thinking.
Dance described by Helen as “pleasure double-play” can lift the mood and reduce stress.
Dance as body acceptance
Besides the physical and mental benefits, dance can also help people with diseases accept
what their bodies can and can’t do.
Jenny is Becky’s student. Her body went numb when she was in her mid-twenties. She had
no feelings from the knees down. She suffered from serious muscle tightness and balance
problems, making standing and walking difficult for her.
Jenny recently joined an online dance programme. Not only has it improved her
coordination (协调性), but it has enabled her to overcome her fear of being judged (评价) for how
she moves, both in the dance class and out in the world.
“I see so many people moving like me,” she says. “I don’t have to be perfect in my dancing
or make sure my leg lifts this way—it makes me comfortable with where I am right now.”
Dance as community
Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of dance is the sense of community it creates. Dancing
with others not only makes people feel less different in their moving abilities, but also helps to
fight against loneliness and problems in getting along with others.
Becky started teaching more than 22 years ago, and she has helped 300 communities in 28
countries around the world. In some countries , such as India and South Korea, people have put
their own cultural dance styles into their classes.
Becky wants to create a sense of family and community for this group of people. Whenever
and wherever she teaches, she hopes to make them feel joyful, get much closer to the community,
and explore the limitless possibilities for the rest of their lives.
1.In which part of the website may you find this passage
A.Culture. B.Fashion. C.Health. D.Literature.

A.the act of dancing helps to improve “brain power”
B.dance needs more repetitive exercises than “brain power”
C.dance needs more high-level thinking to lift the mood
D.the act of traditional exercise requires more attention
3.How do you understand the underlined part of this passage
A.Jenny accepts the disabilities of her body after dancing.
B.Jenny wants to be perfect after practising dancing.
C.Jenny feels sad because she is weak in dancing.
D.Jenny thinks she should treat her leg for better dancing.
4.What’s the best title for this passage

We think of hospitals as being peaceful and safe places. But in the past few years, doctors
and nurses in Chinese public hospitals have been aimed by violent (暴力的) attacks. A study that
came out in 2017 showed that one in four doctors in China has suffered from physical violence,
with some even losing their lives.
To prevent such things from happening, the government worked out a draft (草案) law and
put it up for review on Oct 22nd. It says that the safety of medical staff is protected by law and
that no one is allowed to hurt medical workers, the Beijing News reported.
In most cases, the attackers were relatives of patients who were not satisfied with their
treatment. Most people have high expectations for their doctors. But of course, not every illness
can be cured, China Youth Daily noted.
A general lack (缺少) of trust in doctors has also made things worse. Giving doctors cash
bribes (现金贿赂) for good treatment has long been an unwritten rule. Some people believe that
they may have received useless treatment because they didn’t bribe their doctors. In some cases,
their anger in this situation turns into violence.
Another problem is a lack of doctors. Doctors in large public hospitals are often stretched
thin (不堪重负的), seeing as many as 60 or more patients in just half a day. It’s difficult for them
to provide enough care for each patient.
Hospitals are trying to find ways to solve these problems. For example, many hospitals
have set up offices to hear and deal with patients’ complaints, Xinhua reported.
When some unexpected things happen, patients should ask the experts or the special
organizations for advice instead of turning to violence, the State Council said.

①Black Myth: Wukong is catching people’s eyes all over the world, highlighting China’s
cultural heritage (遗产). This game received a lot of praise as a new milestone (里程碑) for
China’s first AAA game, although it has long production cycles (周期), and expensive costs.
②This game has achieved great success. By July, its pre-sales had hit 400 million yuan.
But do you know about the “long journey” behind it Early on August 20th, 2020, the Chinese
game developer Game Science showed a 13-minute video about its action role-playing game—
Black Myth: Wukong. Within one day, the video got nearly 2 million views on YouTube and 10
million views on Bilibili. 1
③Every year on August 20th, the developer Game Science showed a new video about the
development progress of the game. 2 However, what’s different this year is that we finally got
to play it. On August 20th, 2023, in Hangzhou, 1000 players from all over China were invited to
play the latest demo (试玩版) of the game. And three days later in Cologne, games from all over
the world came to play it at Gamescom 2023. 3 On August 25th, the game won the Award of
Best Visuals (最佳视觉效果奖).
④The Monkey King has appeared in video games before, but seldom has that been in a
game made by a Chinese company which paid so much attention to showing Chinese traditional
culture.
⑤“We’ve just been so interested in this Chinese mythology,” Game Science boss Feng Ji
told the Unreal Engine website. That interest led to years of study on the Monkey King. But while
Black Myth: Wukong is set in the world of Journey to the West, the 500-year-old book was not
enough for the game developers. 4
⑥“To create a fascinating Chinese story, we also looked to many Chinese classics, taking
ideas from their stories, characters and monsters, for example, The Classic of Mountains and Seas(
《山海经》), The Investiture of the Gods《( 封神演义》), Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio 《( 聊
Wuxia novels by Jin Yong and Gu Long and science fictions by Liu Cixin. They all
inspired the making of the game,” said Feng.
⑦Although Black Myth: Wukong is hitting the global market and having its day, for most
Chinese game industries and Chinese game developers, there is still a long and difficult way to go,
just like “journey to the west”.
1.Which of the following is the right order according to the passage
a. Players from all over the world played Black Myth: Wukong.
b. Players from all over China played Black Myth: Wukong.
c. Game Science showed videos about Black Myth: Wukong.
d. Black Myth: Wukong won the Award of Best Visuals.
A.a-b-c-d B.c-d-b-a C.c-b-a-d D.b-a-d-c
2.What does the underlined phrase “having its day” mean
A.Black Myth: Wukong is better than any other games in western countries.
B.Black Myth: Wukong is greatly welcomed in the world.
C.Black Myth: Wukong plays an important role in players’ life.
D.Black Myth: Wukong still has a long way to go.
3.The sentence “Some even waited for more than 5 hours only to play it for 45 minutes.” is
missing. Which blank should it be put in

So, stay away from a dog who is hiding, growling (低

legs. These are signs of fear. You should leave the dog alone and don’t look it in the eyes.
Never go up to a dog while it is eating because it may think you want some of its food and
might bite you to keep you from taking its meal away.

1.Where did the brain experts do the study in The Hague
A.At a school. B.In a train station.
C.In a company. D.At a museum.
2.When was Girl with a Pearl Earring painted
A.In 1660. B.In 1662. C.In 1665. D.In 1667.
3.What’s Paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The purpose of the study. B.The result of the study.
C.The process of the study. D.The ways of the study.
4.What is the advantage of enjoying art in real life according to Martine Gosselink
A.Helping our brains grow. B.Getting more knowledge about art.
C.Improving our health. D.Learning more skills on painting.

Michael also wrote about sports people and how they would
face their challenges.
Lesein, 14 years old, first learned about climate change when he was twelve years old. His
home country of Kenya loses about 29,650 acres (英亩) of forest each year. With a deep love for
soccer, Lesein started Trees for Goals, planting a tree for every goal he scored in a match. Later
the school’s soccer and basketball teams all followed him. In 2019, almost 1,000 trees in forests
outside of Nairobi were planted. Now the government provides trees for them to plant.
Alexis Lewis, a 15-year-old inventor, designed a simple wheel chair with bamboo to help
poor people who need to transport children many miles to hospitals. Another invention of his is a
special mask which can be thrown through a window of a smoke-filled building to people inside.
Alexis said, “People are dying because they can’t be saved in time. Another reason why I want to
invent something is that I love physics and I use it to improve technologies.” Alexis also told our
reporter that he wanted children to know that inventors can be everybody who’ s ever tried to
solve a problem.
These young people are certainly shining examples to show you’ re never too young to
make a difference.
