I have an 11-year-old son named Peter. I knew that playing sports would be good to our son.
He would get some exercise, learn about teamwork and learn some physical skills. We continually
encouraged him to have a try, but after a while it was clear that he didn’t like team sports, and there
was nothing we could do to change it.
We decided not to push him to take part in sports, even though most of his friends did sports.
As time went by, we gradually realized that we had made the right decision. Don’t misunderstand
(误解) me. I have nothing against sports. Now my son isn’t interested in sports, but I’m not pushing

him to do sports. Here are the reasons:
I want him to know I accept him unconditionally. I don’t even want Peter to feel that I will love
him only if he behaves in a certain way or takes part in some activities. Whether he succeeds or fails,

feel proud of his son if he can make great achievements. So most parents always push them so hard.
Sometimes we have seen ourselves indirectly through our own sons. Their achievements remind us

Everyone needs help sometimes. People depend on one another. That's why communities have
special people ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it.
For example, what would we do without a community fire station? If a home catches on
fire,as the Jackson place did last week, it might be burned down and people get hurt…or worse.
We're so lucky to have firemen to come to save people and put out the fire, safely. If the fire station
hadn't come so fast, the Jacksons might have lost everything.
And what about our local police who protect our families, our homes and valuable things The
police have helped so many families this past year, especially saving people and pets and protecting
our houses and other things after the heavy rains.
Think about all the other service workers we have in this community, We have people who
collect waste and rubbish and keep our community sanitary, We have road workers who put up and
repair traffic signs and fix holes in the streets to protect not just us, but our cars! And where would
this community be without the teachers in our school and the doctors, and nurses in our community
hospitals
Think again about what we eat every day; think again about what we wear every day. We
cannot produce them, but we use them all the time. We get a lot from all these tireless workers who
keep our community running. We need these people in the community. We depend on each other.
Let's support each other and help each other. Only in this way can we make our community a better
place.

There is a young boy in our class named Bill. It’s a little difficult for him to speak 31
(clear). Sometimes, he stutters (口吃). One day, we heard Bill would try 32 for the school
play. We wondered whether he could give a perfect performance.
Finally, the big night arrived. Bill spoke 33 (he) first lines and stuttered under pressure.
Then, the most amazing thing happened. When the music started, he tapped (轻叩 ) his foot and
began to sing. He had a beautiful voice, not a single stutter. Bill was a different person 34
(compare) with the way he talked.
The next day at school, instead of 35 (joke), everyone congratulated Bill. He 36
(explain) to us that it’s common for people who stutter to be able to sing well. Science doesn’t know
how many 37 (reason) for this, but it’s a fact.
We learned that everyone has things they can’t do 38 they can do. As for Bill, he still
stutters when he has a 39 (communicate) with others. But sometimes if he has a hard time
giving 40 answer in class, he will just stop and sing the answer. That’s always the
highlight of our class.

Should parents ask their children to do housework Some believe children should not do
41 (chore). They think that children have much stress from school and they are too young to
cook or clean. But many people believe that children can learn a lot 42 it. Parents should
help children learn to do the housework that they will have to do when they live on 43 (they)
own. They also give children a sense of responsibility, importance 44 confidence.
Most experts think that the housework should be suitable for children, such as 45
(sweep) the floor and taking out the rubbish. Parents shouldn’t ask a school boy to cook when he is
46 (do) his homework. If the child has activities after school, the time 47 (leave) to do
housework may be short.
Perhaps more housework on weekends can be 48 (help). When a child does what his
parents ask him to do 49 (happy), he will probably have the feeling of growing up.
Housework can be useful. It is 50 teaching tool. Parents use the tool to teach children,
so that they can care for themselves some day. And please make sure parents also do housework. If
parents don’t provide a clean house, children won’t find any reason to do housework.

Everyone needs friends. But do you know how to find real friends and keep it 51
American writer named Sally tells young students some good ways to find friends.

care of it to make it grow.
She says you should first choose someone who can be a good friend. It doesn’t matter whether
he has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and helpful. If you have a bad day, a good
friend should be a good 53 (listen) and try his best 54 (help) you. If you want
to make friends with someone, you should make each other live 55 (happy). But what
should you do when you fight with your friend You may try to have a talk with him or her. If your
friend 56 (not) want to talk, you can write a letter to tell him or her how you are 57
(feel).
Sally also tells us some small but important things, for example, celebrate your 58
(friend) success. Remember that friendship is one of the 59 (wonderful) things in your life.
Life is great 60 you have friends.
