When you visit a park, you’ll probably see a lot of people, both young and old, using fitness apps on their mobile phones instead of the fitness equipment. Fitness apps are really popular these days. Why do more and more people like fitness apps better than going to the gym Is using fitness apps just as good as going to the gym
If you want to go to the gym, you have to get there, pay for a membership card, and find the right time to exercise. But with fitness apps, you can work out whenever and wherever you are with your phone. You can also pick the workout plans that fit you and your body.
But here’s the big question: Do we get the same result in fitness from using fitness apps as we do from using gym equipment Some researchers did a study to find out. The people in Group A were told to follow a workout plan on a fitness app. The people in Group B used gym equipment to do a similar workout. They found out that both groups got about the same fitness improvement.
Another study also showed the same thing. In this study, scientists watched how people’s bodies worked when they used fitness apps and when they exercised in the gym. The result was that using fitness apps made almost the same muscle(肌肉) groups active as using gym equipment.
But some people still think they get a better workout in the gym. One reason might be that when people use fitness apps, they might not have anyone to watch them and they could do the exercise wrong. “If you don’t do the exercise the right way, you might not get all the good things from it, ” a fitness expert said.
38. How did the researchers compare fitness apps and gym equipment

C. A kind of fitness equipment. D. A period of physical exercise.
40. What can we infer from the text
A. Fitness apps are better for beginners because they are easy to use.
B. People using fitness apps don’t need to worry about getting injured during exercise.
C. The results of the studies might make some people change ways of keeping fit.
D. Going to the gym is a waste of time since fitness apps can achieve the same result.
41. How is the text organized (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2, . . . )

Buck Marchinton, is a wildlife biologist who plays an important role in DNR’s Private Lands Program. Buck builds partnerships with private landowners across North Georgia to develop management practices that are good for both wildlife and landowners. Buck’s method is to work closely with landowners to provide educational service, habitat (栖息地) studies and special conservation plans. His final goal is to help landowners become real managers of their lands and create a better coexistence (共存) between humans and wildlife.
Buck’s interest in biology began early on, inspired by his father’s love for the natural world. He continued this interest in higher education and studied biology. Buck received his bachelor’s degree from the university. Along the way, he developed a deep love for the outdoors. With his passion for wildlife protection, Buck set out on a task to make a difference in protecting wildlife for nearly 30 years, working first in Florida, and later returning to Georgia.
“If I had any advice to give to someone showing interest in this job, I would tell them that before they get in too deep, they need to be certain that this is the job they want to take. It’s not really something people just fall into. We are told to do this if we can’t see ourselves doing anything else, and in some degree that’s true, but we always have a choice.”
Buck is recently working on a management plan in Dawson County with a landowner who had an interest in having quail (鹌鹑) on his land. However, the land is not a suitable habitats for quail because of nearly monthly flooding (洪水) and being covered with trees that the landowner is not allowed to cut. Buck has instead advised the landowner to think about woodcocks, a kind of bird that can grow on the present land. This solution provides the landowner with an easier way to less land manipulation (改造) for a species (物种) that would not fit this land.
Thanks to Buck’s scientific spirits, he continues to shape a brighter tomorrow where humans and wildlife can better live with each other. He shows us that with love and effort, his final goal is within reach.
42. Why does Buck build partnerships with private landowners
A. To provide landowners with better education.
B. To make the private farmlands better.
C. To build more proper habitats for wildlife.
D. To achieve a double-win management method.
43. What made Buck study biology at university at first
A. His father’s influence. B. His course requirements.
C. His love for the outdoors. D. His love for the wildlife.

Dear David,
I’m truly thankful for your congratulations on the Spring Festival—a social practice of Chinese celebrating the traditional New Year—being added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Spring Festival is a time for the family to get together. We’ll clean our houses to sweep away bad luck and make them beautiful with red lanterns and couplets. The family will sit around a big table on New Year’s Eve, enjoying a great dinner and chatting happily. There will also be exciting fireworks.
I sincerely hope you can come to my home during the Spring Festival. We can go to some festival fairs together, and taste traditional Chinese food and enjoy this festival.
Yours,
Li Hua
