参考范文:
The Person I want to Express My Thanks
In my life, many people helped and influenced me a lot. The person I want to
express my thanks most is my English teacher Mr. Lee. He is a middle-aged, tall and
thin man with short black hair, wearing a pair of glasses. His encouragement and
patience led us to the path to English learning.
When I was in Grade 8, my poor result in English made me almost lose confidence
in improving. Mr Lee came to talk to me and offer to help. He even recommended
that I should take part in an English speech contest because I had really good
pronunciation! “Try your best. I believe in you.” Hearing these words, my heart was
filled with gratitude. With the help of Mr.Lee and lots of hard practice, I finally got
the first prize. Gradually, my English became better and better.
Words cannot express my gratitude to Mr. Lee. He has a great influence on me.2024-2025 学年深圳市中考英语模拟考试卷(深圳专用)

Do you think laughter can help you deal with pain Scientists from Britain did two experiments. The first was done in
a lab. People wore special wristbands(腕带). Some of them were asked to watch comedies while others watched serious
programs. Then the scientists tightened(勒紧) the wristbands to see how much pain the people could feel.
The other test was done at an art festival. Some people watched a comedy show and others watched a drama(戏剧). At
the same time, they had to put their backs against the wall and keep their legs bent(弯曲的) just like sitting on a chair.
They did this before and after the show.
Scientists found that just 15 minutes of laughter improves people's ability to stand pain by 10%.
However, the serious programs and the drama didn't make a difference to pain at all.
The study found that the magic power of laughter comes from endorphins(内啡肽). These are chemicals. They are
produced by the human body. They make you feel less pain and can make people feel happier. Exercise can produce
endorphins. Your muscles(肌肉) move in and out when you are laughing. Scientists believe that this makes your
muscles tiring, so we start to produce endorphins.
Scientists also found that the only real and relaxing laughter works not just polite laughter.

I was filled with doubts and worries until my grandfather told me to stand tall.

first. He was not only trying to learn this hard new job but also a new language.
“Stand straight, stand tall,” he would always tell himself. I am so proud of my grandfather. After listening to my

Computers may be able to help us in more ways. Recent research has showed a new computer program that can
learn human emotions(情感).
Researchers asked a group of people to type two paragraphs from Lewis Carroll's novel Alice in Wonderland. The
people then chose an emotional state they felt while typing. Moods tested were joy, fear, anger, sadness, disgust,
shame and guilt. Then the researchers put the text into the computer to study. Surprisingly, the computer was right 70
percent of the time in telling their emotional states. The most correct emotions it guessed were joy (87 percent) and
anger (81percent). The least accurate emotion the computer guessed was sadness (60 percent). The researchers found
that the people were hardly typing when they were in a bad mood, which may explain the inexactness(不精确性) of
the second result.
However, the findings could have great importance for Artificial Intelligence(AI), and it may allow computers to
get along with us in a friendlier manner. “If we could build any system that is intelligent enough to communicate with
humans—— that is, it can identify users’ emotions and change its behavior accordingly, then using machines could
be more effective and friendly.” the researchers wrote in study. For example, when looking for a movie online,
perhaps a computer program could make suggestions for films that would match your mood. And as the researchers
said, this kind of computer program could also help humans in a number of ways. First, with online teaching,
emotionally intelligent computers could change its teaching style to help students learn better. Second, with online
talking, doctors were able to tell the emotion of a patient.

Many kids do housework such as doing the dishes, making the bed, and folding the clothes. In exchange, they
get some money or other computer time.
