Tony: Oh, I’m just reading about personal safety and accidents in the
mountains for my school trip.

Language points
1. They’ll catch up in a few minutes.
(1) catch up 赶上;追上
catch up 为“动词+副词”结构,代词作宾语要放在中间。
catch up with 表示“赶上;达到(某水平)”。
e.g. Go on ahead. We’ll catch you up.
Meimei is working hard to catch up with others.
(2) in a few minutes 几分钟后
in+时间段”表示在一段时间之后, 此结构一般用于一般
将来时中。对其提问用how soon (多久之后)。
2. I thought we had an agreement to stay together.
agreement / ’ɡri m nt/ n.协议;同意;意见一致
make an agreement 达成协议
be in agreement on/with/about sth. 对某事意见一致
have an agreement to do sth. 同意做某事
=agree to do sth.
e.g. Our class had an agreement to have a picnic next week.
I am in agreement with what he said.
3.Will I go blind
blind adj. 失明的;瞎的, 指没有能力看清事物。
be blind in the left eye/right eye/both eyes “左/右/两只眼睛失明了”
be blind to sth. 对某事视而不见
the blind 指“盲人”, 作主语时, 谓语动词用复数形式。
“the+形容词”表示某一类人, 如:the poor 穷人, the rich 富人等。
e.g. The dog is blind in the right eye.
The blind usually have good hearing.
4. I’ll call for help on my mobile.
call 指打电话, for 表目的, call for help 即“打电话求助”。
【拓展】与call 相关的短语:
call for 需要;要求; call on号召;
call up 打电话; call off 取消;决定终止
e.g. The man who fell into the river called for help in a loud voice.
The president has called off the meeting.
5. It was nothing serious, though.
nothing serious 意为“不严重,没什么大事儿,别担心”。
形容词修饰something,anything和nothing 等不定代词时,
要放在不定代词后面。
something常用于肯定句中,anything常用于否定句和一般
疑问句中,nothing意为“没有什么”。
e.g. There’s nothing new in today’s newspaper.
