We say “Chi ba” at the start of normal meals and “Da jia chi hao” at the start of more formal meals.

Language points
1. Dinner is served around 7 pm or even later.
serve /s v/ v. 端上(食物和饮料);服侍……进餐
serve作“端上, (给某人)提供”讲时, 常用结构serve sb.with sth.
或 serve sth. to sb. 意为“给某人端上/提供某物”。
serve as意为“可用作; 可当……使(尤指别无选择时)”。
e.g. She served beer and wine to them.
e.g. The waiter served us with some coffee.
= The waiter served some coffee to us.
2. But there is nothing similar to say in English.
在句中similar修饰的词是不定代词, 所以后置。
be similar to 与……相似
be similar in 在……方面相似
e.g. Lily’s dress is similar to Lucy’s.
莉莉的连衣裙和露西的差不多。
e.g. These two cars are very similar in design.
这两辆车在设计方面非常相似。
3. Knives and forks are used for most Western food.
be used for 被用于……, for为介词, 表用途, 后接名词
或动名词, 与be used to do sth.意思相同。
e.g. Pens are used for writing. = Pens are used to write.
词条 用法 例句
be used for “被用来做某事”,后接名词或动词的 ing 形式,表示目的或用途。 Quilts are used for keeping warm. 被子被用来取暖。
be used by “被……使用”,by后接动作的执行者,强调使用者。 English is used by a large number of people all over the world.
英语被世界上很多人使用。
be used as “被当作……使用”,as是介词,意为“作为”。 The box is used as a table.
这个箱子被当作桌子来使用。
be used to “习惯于……”,to是介词,后接名词或动词的 ing 形式。be used to后还可以跟动词原形,意为“被用来……”。 He is used to walking after supper.
他习惯于晚饭后散步。
used to “过去常常”,表示过去的习惯。后面接动词原形。 She used to have long hair.
她过去留有长发。
4. No one will be cross.
这里cross 是形容词,意为“生气的”。
be/get cross with sb. 意为“生某人的气”, 与be angry with sb.同义;
be cross with sb.at sth. 意为“为某事和某人动怒”。
cross 作动词时, 意为“穿越;越过”;
作名词时,意为“十字架;十字形记号”。
e.g. Danny is sometimes cross with his parents at small things.
丹尼有时因为小事而和他父母生气。
e.g. The cross woman crossed the street.
那位愤怒的妇女穿过了马路。
