Possible versions 1:
Should we support AI-powered essay correction
Good morning everyone. While AI tools claim to enhance writing skills, I firmly believe they do more harm than good by creating dependency and killing creativity.
Firstly, AI fosters lazy thinking. Students now rely on instant grammar fixes instead of deeply understanding rules. Last week, a classmate blindly accepted all AI suggestions, turning his vivid story into robotic sentences. The teacher called it “grammatically perfect but soul-crushing”. Secondly, AI cannot handle cultural depth. When I wrote about Chinese Mid-Autumn traditions, the AI failed to understand “family reunion” as “unemployment”. Machines will never grasp the human stories behind words. Worst of all, AI creates hollow victories. My friend celebrated her “error-free” AI-edited essay, only to fail a handwritten exam. Reliance on technology leads to false confidence.
Let’s come back to authentic learning—errors and all!
Thank you for listening.
Possible version 2:
Should we support AI-powered essay correction
Good morning everyone. I am convinced that AI-powered essay correction is a revolutionary improvement for English learners, and its benefits far outweigh the limitations.
Firstly, AI offers 24-hour service. Unlike teachers who have limited office hours, AI systems provide instant feedback anytime. Last month, I revised my essay at midnight using the AI tool and submitted a polished version before dawn—something impossible with human grading alone. Secondly, AI ensures objective analysis. Human teachers may unconsciously favor certain writing styles, but AI evaluates essays based on clear criteria. For instance, when our club compared AI and teacher feedback on 50 essays, AI detected 15% more subtle grammar errors.
Admittedly, AI cannot replace human insight into creativity, but it excels as a foundational tool. By handling routine tasks like grammar checks, it frees teachers to focus on cultivating critical thinking. Let’s embrace this technology to make learning more efficient and equitable!
Thank you for listening.2024级高一下学期英语期中考试

Mar Dixon, a leader in social media and the cultural sector, created MuseumSelfie Day in 2014 as part of her quest (追寻) to make museums fun for everyone — thus changing the image of museums from boring institutions, to places that anyone can enjoy.
This simple concept — taking a fun selfie in a museum — has become a global movement, with people, museums, news outlets, and organizations from around the world getting in on the action.
Visitors and staff at museums still participate each year by sharing their MuseumSelfie photos on social platforms. From ancient artifacts to modern masterpieces, every museum offers a unique opportunity for a selfie moment.

● Take a Selfie: Snap a picture with the exhibit or feature in the background.
● Post Your Photo: Share it on X, Bluesky, Instagram, or Facebook using #MuseumSelfieDay or #MuseumSelfie. Don’t forget to tag the museum and add a caption describing the exhibit or your experience!

Carrying her beloved erhu, which had been passed down from her grandmother, 17-year-old Li Mei from Chengdu stepped off the plane in Paris in July 2024. As part of a youth cultural exchange program, she had dreamed of this moment for years. However, the weight of representing her heritage in a foreign land left her palms sweaty. Little did she know that this trip would spark an extraordinary musical creation.
During a workshop at a local art school, Li met Pierre, a French violinist who was fascinated by her instrument’s attractive sound. “It’s like the voice of ancient China,” he remarked with excitement, gently plucking(拨) the erhu’s strings. Inspired by each other’s music, they decided to mix the soulful melodies (旋律) of the erhu with the dynamic range of the violin for a performance at the upcoming Bastille Day celebration.
As they practiced in a sunlit studio overlooking the Seine, Li taught Pierre how to imitate raindrops with quick bow movements on the erhu, while Pierre showed her how to weave Western harmonies into the Chinese folk tune “Jasmine Flower.” The integration created a charming soundscape that neither had imagined possible. On the performance night, their piece “Silk Road Echoes” received thunderous applause. The audience were amazed at how the erhu’s sad tones danced with the violin’s vigorous melodies.
What began as a summer experiment blossomed into lasting friendship and something far greater. Today, Li and Pierre co-teach virtual music classes, connecting students in Chengdu and Lyon through weekly “global jam sessions.” Their students cooperate on pieces that mix erhu with guitar or Peking opera with jazz. Li often tells her pupils, “Music has no borders; it’s a language that turns differences into harmonies.” When traditions meet with open hearts, they don’t conflict; they compose something entirely new.
34. Why did Li Mei bring her erhu to Paris
A. To teach students full-time.
B. To display it at a local studio.
C. To share Chinese music culture.
D. To give it to her friend as a present.
35. What caused the first cooperation of Li Mei and Pierre
A. Mutual music inspiration. B. Celebration opportunity.
C. Love for Chinese music. D. Desire to teach music.
36. Why was “Silk Road Echoes” well received by the audience
A. It showed instruments perfectly.
B. It reflected the beauty of nature.
C. It featured traditional Chinese folk music.
D. It bridged different civilizations musically.
37. What does the story mainly convey
A. Music is the source of lasting friendship.
B. Mastering an instrument requires practice.
C. Traditional music resists modern influences.
D. Cooperation across cultures generates innovation.

In the world of online shopping, many online purchases are based on careful consideration of star ratings and product reviews left by complete strangers. But should you trust customer reviews when deciding what to purchase And do these mysterious reviewers have your best interests in mind Here’s what you need to know.
Consumers today are skeptical, says Zach Pardes at review platform Trustpilot. “We live in a time when trust is completely under attack,” Pardes says. “So people are reading reviews and consuming them more than ever before, but I think there is a healthy skepticism at times of what they’re reading. Fake reviews do exist. Fake reviews include, but aren’t limited to, robot-generated reviews and reviews that are influenced by the seller.”
Of course, not all user reviews you read online are fake. High-quality reviews are a valuable tool when making a variety of purchases. Pardes says Trustpilot features a team in place to detect and remove fake reviews. Perhaps one of the best-known review websites is Yelp. Yelp takes measures to ensure “high-quality content,” says Kathleen Liu, a company spokesperson. That includes allowing Yelp’s community of business owners and users to flag content that may go against the site’s terms of service.
Since user reviews do provide helpful information, review as a whole shouldn’t be repudiated. But how can you tell the difference between what’s real and what’s not It’s close to impossible for the everyday consumer. But if you conduct your investigation carefully, you can make an informed purchase.
Check more than one review source. Pardes advises consumers to read reviews on multiple platforms. “If you’re about to book a $10,000 vacation, you’d never rely only on the photos and the reviews posted by that hotel’s marketing team,” he says. “You are going to want to use a third-party independent resource.” Read more than a handful of reviews. Pardes says there is “safety in numbers”. Question perfection. Pardes says consumers shouldn’t trust reviews that show only five stars. “Nobody’s perfect so you can’t possibly have a perfect five-star review in every single category of your business,” he says.
38. What does Pardes imply about consumers in Paragraph 2
A. They are often influenced by sellers.
B. They must have long lost trust in sellers.
C. They often fail to recognize fake reviews.
D. They should be cautious of product reviews.
39. What do Yelp and Trustpilot have in common
A. Both aim to offer real user reviews.
B. Both produce robot-generated reviews.
C. Both hire professionals to give reviews.
D. Both fine business owners for dishonesty.
40. What does the underlined word “repudiated” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Advocated. B. Hidden. C. Dismissed. D. Blamed.
41. What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. How to get the most out of online reviews.
B. Where to find completely reliable reviews.
C. Why consumers should check out reviews.
D. When we can make an informed purchase.

Is forgiveness against our human nature To answer our question, we need to ask a further question: What is the essence of our humanity For the sake of simplicity, people consider two distinctly different views of humanity. The first view involves dominance and power. In an early paper on the psychology of forgiveness, Droll (1984) made the interesting claim that humans’ essential nature is more aggressive than forgiving allows. Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm. In his opinion, forgivers are compromising their well-being as they offer mercy to others, who might then take advantage of them.
The second view involves the theme of cooperation, mutual respect, and even love as the basis of who we are as humans. Researchers find that to fully grow as human beings, we need both to receive love from and offer love to others. Without love, our connections with a wide range of individuals in our lives can fall apart. Even common sense strongly suggests that the will to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how well has slavery worked as a mode of social harmony
From this second viewpoint of who we are as humans, forgiveness plays a key role in the biological and psychological integrity of both individuals and communities because one of the outcomes of forgiveness, shown through scientific studies, is the decreasing of hatred and the restoration of harmony. Forgiveness can break the cycle of anger. At least to the extent the people from whom you are estranged accept your love and forgiveness and are prepared to make the required adjustments. Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people.
As an important note, when we take a classical philosophical perspective, that of Aristotle, we see the distinction between potentiality and actuality. We are not necessarily born with the capacity to forgive, but instead with the potential to learn about it and to grow in our ability to forgive. The actuality of forgiving, its actual appropriation in conflict situations, develops with practice.
42. What is Droll’s idea about forgiveness
A. People who forgive can have their welfare affected.
B. Forgiveness depends on the nature of humanity.
C. People should offer mercy to other people.
D. Aggressive people should learn to forgive.
43. What does the example in Paragraph 2 illustrate
A. To fight is to grow. B. To dominate is to harm.
C. To forgive is to love. D. To give is to receive.
44. What is the writer’s attitude toward forgiveness
A. Objective. B. Reserved. C. Favorable. D. Doubtful.
45. What is message of the last paragraph
A. Forgiveness is in our nature. B. It takes practice to forgive.
C. Actuality is based on potentiality. D. Forgiveness grows with time.

An AI-generated image posted online shows Albert Einstein riding a neon-lit hoverboard across a pizza-shaped planet. Upon seeing those funny but mindless pictures, people seem to be drawn into a strange circle. They can’t help but repeatedly view similar pictures and enjoy the process, as if addicted. You could say that this is harmless. But what is it adding to the world 46 The term has been named Oxford’s Word of the Year 2024. Brain rot is when someone’s mental or intellectual state gets worse, especially as a result of overconsuming low-quality, low-value online content, which is considered trivial. 47 Initially gaining attraction on social media platform, brain rot is now seeing more widespread use. The term increased in usage frequency by 230% between 2023 and 2024.
48 As Oxford University Press notes on its website, the first recorded use of brain rot is found in Thoreau’s 1854 book Walden. Thoreau criticizes society’s tendency to devalue (使贬值) ideas. 49 “While England tries to cure the potato rot, will no effort be made to cure the brain rot, which is much more widespread and deadly ”
The line between our digital and real lives has faded over time — arguably for the worse. 50 The best thing we can do is see this blended existence as life itself, and know that whatever feeling we are dealing with is a version of what Thoreau dealt with 170 years ago. Only slightly more stupid.
A. Now it is all but gone.
B. This content causes “brain rot”.
C. He sees it as a sign of mental decline.
D. Online-offline distinction strengthens over time.
E. It originates in meaningless and soulless content.
F. Though seemingly modern, “brain rot” dates back to Henry David Thoreau.
G. Its roots lie in viral challenges prioritizing clicks over meaningful engagement.
