第四部分写作(满分15分)
The day I looked forward to came eventually. The air buzzed with cheers as our relay team stepped onto the track. I was seized by tension and unease, my palms sweating constantly. Sarah patted me on my shoulders, giving me encouragement with an inspiring look. A sense of determination crowding in, I raised my head confidently. When the whistle blew, I dashed like an arrow. But my competitors ran rather fast. My teammates’ shouts urged me forward. What made me frustrated was that I didn’t catch up with them. I was the last one to hand over the baton.
Our opponent winning narrowly, I blamed our failure on myself. “If I’d run faster, we could have won.” I murmured, burying my head, with tears of guilt rolling down my checks. Approaching me. Sara said firmly, “We all gave our best!” The team gathered around, echoing her words. So warm was I that I felt incredibly comforted. Later, we shared snacks under a tree, encouraging each other to do it better next year. We were overwhelmed with joy, broad smiles lighting up our faces. It was then that I realized victory wasn’t just about medals; it was the courage to try and the bonds we’d built. Sports Day had taught me to cherish both.

W: Just don’t get too close to the edge, or you might fall down.
Text 2
M: What should we do to guarantee people’s safety while passing this turn
W: If we can get permission for it, a traffic light would be ideal. If not, we would have to put a “Stop” sign—or at least reduce the speed limit.
Text 3
W: I need to earn more money if I want to afford a bigger house. What should I do
M: Assuming you can’t ask for a pay raise, why don’t you look to take on a part-time job elsewhere

W: Safety glasses
M: Yes. We are going to a real factory. So this time, you will also need a signed form from your parents that allows you to come. After we arrive at the factory tomorrow, you will have to pay special attention to our guide, who will tell you what you can and cannot do. This will prevent you from getting hurt.
W: So exciting!
M: See you tomorrow. And by the way, before you leave, please try these on and find the size that fits you.
Text 7

M: We will lose money if my customers don’t get their cars in time. The losses are on my watch.
W: Well, your contract says we will pay you $10,000 for every day of delay. So, you will get an extra $30,000.
M: Thank you, but that is hardly enough to cover the cost of one item if a customer wants the money back.

Text 9
W: Dr. Spenser, thanks for joining us today.
M: My pleasure.
W: So, what exactly are the scientists at your company doing
M: We’re developing a tool to help blind people see again, specifically those who lost their sight because of an accident.
W: Sounds great! How will this new tool work
M: Well, it uses a computer chip and special glasses. We start by putting the chip into the blind person’s eye. The chip is very, very small, of course. And the glasses have a very small video camera inside.
W: So, how do the computer chip and glasses work together
M: Well, a blind person puts on the glasses and looks at something, for example, this pen. Then the video camera in the glasses takes a picture of the pen. The camera then sends the picture to the computer chip in the person’s eye.
W: And then the person can see the pen!
M: Exactly! This whole process happens very quickly, of course.
W: Wow! Now, using this tool, will a blind person be able to see as well as a normal person
M: No, they won’t have perfect vision, but they will be able to see many things. This tool is still new, but for many of the people in our study, it has changed their lives.
Text 10
M: Since we started our company 18 months ago, we have been focused on one thing—bringing an affordable electric bike to the world in order to reduce the pollution caused by the cars and save our planet. And now it is our pleasure to reveal the fruits of our labor. This is our e-bike model, which combines speed and performance. It offers speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour. Now, the color you see is called space gray, and will only be provided to our first 100 customers. However, don’t worry if you miss out, we will offer the bike in a range of colors, including sky blue, cherry red and midnight black, with more coming next year as well. We will be producing the bike at our head office in Germany, but we will be shipping them mainly to the US and the UK. Thank you for watching.西安中学2024-2025学年度第二学期期中考试

With a love and fascination for traditional culture, many young Chinese have begun to use their creativity to innovate (创新) using elements from China’s intangible cultural heritage.
Papercutting, the traditional Chinese art of paper design, has been adopted in many creative arts, including food and clothing. On the Chinese lifestyle-focused social media platform Xiaohongshu, a video of cookies featuring a paper-cut styled dragon pattern received over 2.6 million views and 130,000 likes. Liu Shan, a stay-at-home mother who loves Chinese papercutting, is the baker behind the cookies. Liu started designing her dragon pattern last November and spent five days making the cookies before the Spring Festival. She said she would complete all the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac (生肖) since they are so well-received.
Young craftswoman Chen Lingling created a cloak featuring Chinese paper-cut patterns. As an intangible cultural heritage enthusiast, Chen has made a variety of different clothing and headwear, with the aim of making cultural heritage part of young people’s daily lives. She chose auspicious patterns like phoenix and golden fish to deliver her Spring Festival greetings. People believe these patterns will bring good luck. Her video featuring the cloak has received around 750,000 views and earned her fans from both China and abroad, encouraging her to continue her interest in intangible cultural heritage.
According to the new report published by Xiaohongshu, users of the platform uploaded nearly one million posts with the topic “recreation” between February 9, the Chinese New Year’s Eve, and February 16. Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most highly anticipated Chinese video games ever, with a blockbuster-worthy budget that emphasizes the country’s push to become a global cultural power. The game’s release is a landmark moment for China’s gaming industry. It is considered China’s first “AAA” title, a big-budget, global game with complicated playing methods and advanced visuals.
Within hours of its release, there were more than 1.5 million people playing it on Steam, making it the No.1 game on the online platform. Black Myth: Wuhong is adapted from the 16th-century Chinese classic novel Journey to the West. The game’s main character is inspired by Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, who battles opponents with a magic iron bar.
China’s video game industry is dominated by titles played on smartphones, not big- budget console (主机游戏) or PC games that are released globally. However, Black Myth: Wukong marks a shift as it is being initially released on Sony’s PlayStation 5 and personal computers. In recent years, the industry in China has faced significant challenges. The government has carried out strict regulations to control gaming due to concerns that children could become addicted and negatively influenced. For example, Beijing has introduced rules that prohibit young people from playing games online on school days and impose strict time limits on gaming during weekends and holidays.
But the game’s launch lit up national pride. One Chinese media outlet noted that the game’s default language is Chinese and added, “It feels so good.” The global interest in the game also highlighted China’s push to exercise its “soft power.” The novel that it is based on is considered one of China’s four great classics. The game also depicts important cultural landmarks throughout China.
“The success of Black Myth: Wukong is not only a victory for the gaming industry, but also an important milestone in the overseas expansion of Chinese culture,” Yangcheng Evening News, a state-owned newspaper, wrote in an article.
What do we know about Black Myth: Wukong
A. It focuses on basic gameplay elements.
B. It shifts China’s gaming towards consoles.
C. It features a world born of pure imagination.
D. It acts as a landmark for adapting Chinese myth.
29. What challenge has China’s gaming industry faced recently
A. Insufficient budget for game development.
B. Increasing popularity of smartphone games.
C. China’s lack of emphasis on cultural soft power.
D. Government measures to restrict youth gaming time.
30. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. The game targets Western audience with its cultural themes.
B. The game is a big step in showing Chinese culture worldwide.
C. The game’s success is a way to boost China’s economic growth.
D. The game strengthens national pride by highlighting Chinese culture.
31. What can be the best title of the text
A. Black Myth: Wukong as a Cultural Ambassador
B. The Impact of Gaming Industry on China’s Youth
C. The Impact of Gaming Industry on Chinese Culture
D. Black Myth: Wukong’s Influence on Game Mechanics

When you think of 3D printing, you may think of small objects. But three companies are working together to print something much bigger. They're using a giant 3D printer to create what they say is the first two-storey 3D-printed house in the US.
Usually, 3D printing involves a machine building something by putting down many layers of a material-often hot plastic. When the material hardens, the layers stick together to create a finished object. The method here is similar, but uses concrete.
Leslie Lok, who designed the house, says there are special challenges involved in printing a two-storey house. One of the biggest is the size of the machine needed for the building. The 3D printer in Houston is massive. It weighs over 12 tons.
Ms Lok says printing the house will take the massive machine about 330 hours. That's about eight normal work weeks. Though it's a two-year project, the team isn’t in a rush. “We are not trying to beat the clock,” says Hikmat Zerbe, who works for a construction company called CIVE. Instead, they’re using the house as a “ big laboratory” to learn more about 3D printing houses. They want to see how the concrete reacts “ under different weather conditions”. They also want to figure out how to make 3D printing faster and cheaper. Mr Zerbe says that currently, 3D printing a house with concrete costs more than building a house with wood.
With time, Mr Zerbe expects the costs of 3D printing houses to go down. He thinks printers will improve and make it easier to create more houses quickly. The 3D-printed concrete houses are stronger and hold up better in serious storms than houses built with wood. This can save money in the long run. Since the machine is doing the building, fewer workers are needed, which also saves money.
32. What do we know about the first 3D-printed house
A. It's newly-designed by Mr Zerbe. B. It is a building with three floors.
C. It is built with hot plastic. D. It is created by a huge machine.
33. What do the underlined words “ beat the clock ” in the fourth paragraph probably mean
A. Concentrate on the task. B. Hit something suddenly.
C. Accomplish something quickly. D. Invent something special.
34. Why will the first 3D-printed house be completed in a long time
A. To better learn the new technology. B. To save the cost of building.
C. To free labour completely. D. To make the machine have breaks.
35. What does Mr Zerbe think of 3D printing in houses
A. Risky. B. Promising.
C. Harmful. D. Changeable.

It was a cool autumn morning when the school announced the annual sports day. For most students, it was a day of excitement and joy, but for me, it was just another event I wanted to avoid. I had always been the type to shy away from group activities, preferring the company of my books and thoughts.
Our class monitor, Sarah, noticed my unwillingness. She was the very image of enthusiasm and leadership, always trying to bring the class together. One day, she approached me during lunch. “Why don’t you join us for the relay race It’ll be fun,” she said with a warm smile. I hesitated, but her persistence was hard to ignore.
The next day, Sarah organized a practice session. I unwillingly joined, feeling out of place among my more athletic classmates. As we ran, I tripped and fell, scraping (擦伤) my knee. Embarrassed, I wanted to quit, but Sarah was there in an instant, offering a hand and words of encouragement. “It’s okay, we’re a team,” she said. At this time, other fellow classmates came to encourage me. Their kindness made me feel less alone.
As the days went by, I found myself looking forward to the practices. The care and support among my classmates was infectious. I began to see the value of teamwork and the joy of shared experiences. My initial unwillingness melted away, replaced by a newfound sense of belonging.
The anticipation for the sports day filled me with excitement. I dream of the cheers, the applauding crowd, and the thrill of competition. Training hard, I longed to showcase my skills, push my limits, share and feel the joy of victory. This event was more than a game; it means a lot for me. I could not wait to be part of it!
