1 Roslyn Darch sued a furniture store.
2 Hundreds of smokers sued the tobacco companies.
Read the text. Answer the questions.

She tripped over her own son running around the furniture store and broke her ankle.
The companies were responsible for the terminal illnesses the smokers have developed because of smoking.

Some people think the Roslyn Darch’s case is not fair: the amount of money is far too much for the injury suffered; it’s not the fault of the shop if a mother can’t control her child anyway.
3. What is the author’s attitude towards compensation culture
The author’s attitude towards compensation culture is that there should be penalties for excessive claims or there should be a limit on payouts.

What are the good and bad effects of the compensation
culture in a society
The good effects: there are ways to get compensated if
anything happens to you that is against the
law.
The bad effects: people will find different reasons to claim
even if they don’t really deserve to receive
any compensation.
