1. What happened in the story “ The Last Leaf ”
Suggested answer: The story happened in a building in New York. The heroine Johnsy had little chance of surviving because of pneumonia. She counted the leaves and thought she must die when the last leaf fell. Johnsy’s neighbor, Mr. Behrman painted an ivy leaf for her in the rain before the last leaf fell.But unfortunately he died of pneumonia at that night.

“What a warmhearted masterpiece!” murmured Johnsy, looking out the window at the last ivy leaf on the wall.( character, dialogue) With tears running in her eyes, she couldn't help crying loudly.(descriptive language & actions) It is the crying that made her realise that she lost such a kind friend-Mr.Behrman and it is Mr. Behrman that made her have the courage to survive.(plot) Now she was much stronger now not only in body but also in faith.(thoughts) Sue gave a hug to Johnsy, comforting her that life was just at the beginning and never gave up.(action) Johnsy finally pull through from the pneumonia.(plot) She carefully kept the lantern and the brushes used by Mr. Behrman as a memorial.(descriptive language) A little courage will make a difference to others.(sublimation )
